and proceed to the clubhouse to get railed?

did she go to the game by herself? there had to be some prior arrangement. even if it was the nuttiest groupie plotting to get impregnated, she would have to feel too ashamed walking past rows and rows of fans knowing she was about to go fuck darryl strawberry and clubhouse security knows. the 80s were not that wild, no way.

You wouldn't go down for some halftime nookie?

It happens at concerts a lot. Motley Crue would famously point out girls to the bouncers during the show and then during Tommy Lee's drum solos, they'd go offstage and bang them. And the leftovers would hook up with the crew.

Also if what Len Dykstra said about him was true (and why would he lie about that?), you can understand even better why there was a curiosity factor. Dude un-did his belt and an Evian bottle fell out.

how much time do you have in between innings to pull this off?

and i get that the mets were rock stars but was Shea Stadium a rock concert?

I can't comment on what the scene was like back then because i wasnt around...but just looking at modern day baseball games...yeah, there are usually a few decent chicks but it's a really small percentage of the crowd and prob 90% of them are there with their bf/husband. it's not like there are groups of hot chicks standing around looking for a good time where a clubhouse attendant can easily pick one out and bring them back to the clubhouse to get banged out by Straw. in between innings. when he's not batting. nor has a reasonable chance to bat.

this is exaggerated folk lore shit.

That said I am not incredulous about a decent number of groupies and even bangable ones at baseball games. Plus let's face it, the Straw probably wasn't all that picky. The timing aspect is what makes me question it, that's it.

and what percentage of halfway decent chicks are there without a male companion?

and what percentage of decently attractive and unattached chicks are down to run into the clubhouse and bend over for Straw in between innings?

the odds just aren't very strong here.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

it's not exactly court side at a Lakers game

there are SOME chicks there but i wouldn't say a lot

maybe as concrete charlie said, straw wasnt that picky...like maybe Straw was down to break off female WFAN listeners and all that. RIP Doris from Rego Park.

baseball groupies are definitely a thing. With all the security and things they have going on now it would be hard to pull off what Straw supposedly did today, but in the 80's in NY? I can see it happening.

There's a ton of chicks whose sole purpose in life is to hook up with a pro athlete and they take it very seriously.

I'm talking about plucking randoms from the crowd. if a chick shows up to the game through your invitation then that's different.

fairly decent looking chick if I recall too. pretty sure she would have been down to run into the clubhouse to get nailed by Nails if he had called her down. not much of a stretch to think Straw could've had similar opportunities available to him.

played in New York as one of the biggest things in it.

I know that seems like a million miles away from the farmer tans and jorts convention games that Mets games now must be but once upon a time, it really was crazy like that. In fact, the Mets were like Guns N' Roses in that they sorta embodied (with their cult of personality, talent, blast of initial success, dissolution/failure-to-maintain due to drugs and ego) every bit of the old rock and roll code before the entire landscape changed.

Coincidentally rock and roll is now the major league baseball of the music world but that's a theory I'll delve into deeper at a later date.

Then knock'em down during halftime or post-game.

Why do yall act so surprised?
and inbetween innings I took it to mean when the Mets are at bat but Strawhat batted last inning he has a good 20 mins before he's up again or 10 mins before he needs to be back in at the 9.

being a ballplayer meant you drank and chased skirts, among other things.

i noticed that when they had the flyers alumni game. the locker room for the old timers was SO different from modern-day players. they were in there drinking beer, smoking and swinging their dicks around. these guys today are eating protein bars and bullshit.

yeah, i remember john kruk talking about how the phillies team bus in the early 90's was basically one big beer garden after games. maybe the hard drugs didn't carry over from the 80's as much, but shit was wild nevertheless.
