you need spacing around that play, bruh.

serge hits that shot; he's 13 for 23 from 3 so far in the playoffs. when he spots up in the weak corner it drags one of the spurs' bigs out of the paint, which unlocks a lot of options for the okc offense. whereas if you run that play w/ ibaka as the screener, adams' man is waiting for him in the lane.

i have no problem w/ how they're using ibaka. somebody's got to space the floor for them; adams obv doesn't, and nobody respects roberson or russ off the ball as shooters.

Blatantly making contact and shoving a player AS THE INBOUNDER....I mean cmon lol. I can't clearly see the Durant-Green tussle or Adams follow through on Mills or LMA getting locked up under the rim but I honestly don't expect the refs to call those regardless...but when you have a player out of bounds making contact in order to gain an advantage and avoid a 5 second call..that's next level and just ridiculous to not call that.

like the refs missed something...whether that was Ginobili crowding WAiters, Ginobili crossing the line, Waiters crossing the line, Waiters shoving Ginobili.

Something needed to be called there.

Can't wait for the 2 min report.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

and not a technical,

I feel like Spurs would take the ensuing scramble, layup attempt, and open 3 over having to inbounds the ball again though, right?

They had 2 pretty high percentage looks. If Adams doesnt scramble back hard there, its a wide open layup

but i still think most people will take the steal and a fastbreak opp with the defense on its heels and scrambling, over a timeout.

Hell after the initial pass manu coulda called a timeout with 7 seconds left still and that woulda made morse sense

He didn't call a timeout in Gm 6 of the 2013 Finals when the Spurs had a chance to win it on the last possession of OT after Wade missed a jumper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YIIAKZwY7o

That play itself was controversial b/c Ray Allen actually fouled Manu but the refs swallowed the whistle.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

The lofty ass pass is a whole nother topic, but I cant see catching the ball in that situation and not attacking.

We see it all the time in non-fastbreak situations, offensive teams choose not to call a timeout so defense cant get set.

As much as the Spurs are scrambling, look at OKC, its basically Steven Adams scrambling all over the place

mills had a bad 4th quarter overall. getting cold feet and deferring to ginobili instead of just attempting the layup was... wow. really thought he was gonna just pump fake adams.

hell, ginobili could've attempted the runner himself. mills taking the 3 down by 1 point was just the culmination of one big WTF moment.

5'10" Patty was too far under the rim to pump fake & go for a layup against a 7ft monster. If Danny had thrown a bounce pass then Patty could have gone for a layup in one motion after he catches the ball.

Manu was just going by Pop good to great philosophy & thought Patty would have an uncontested shot but Adams made a great defensive play to force Patty into an air-ball.

Manu ALWAYS makes that pass after he draws two defender if he see a teammate running to the corner for 3 aka the shot Pop wants his player to take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VQzZ6dOxg0

stepping on the line. No ref is gonna call that which is probably why he let the Waiters push slide. At the point that Waiters pushed off though, he shoulda called that Delay of game Tech on Ginobili. Also, Westbrook violated by running out of bounds a second before the Waiters pass. And it was a slow count.

But yeah, the first violation was Ginobili so OKC likely still gets the W.

Stepping on the halfcourt line is a backcourt violation.Stepping on the out of bounds line is out of bounds etc.

I think they are right about jumping as well...inbounder can't leave the playing surface to gain an advantage on the throw in. Don't think i've ever seen that called either.

earlier in the college season, Kansas/Oklahoma played in Lawrence...late in the game, Oklahoma was in-bounding the ball and I *believe* it was Seldon Jr., reached out of bounds and made contact with the in-bounder...it was SO clear and the ref was standing right there. Well, the pass was jacked up and KU stole the in-bounds. They went on to win even though Buddy Hiel went berserk.

spot'. In HS, designated spot is a 3ft lateral space. I'm not sure what the NBA definition of designated spot is tho.

But if an inbounder wanted to alternate lifting both feet for example, that wouldn't be a violation.

How come teams don't take DOG warnings on purpose to get a look at the play like they used to? At least it's not as common. Was there some rule change?

Anyone crying about that finish for the Spurs can shut theeeeeee entire fuck up.

Delay of game warning should have been issued to Manu. His foot crosses the line out bounds and then he very very nearly touches Waiters himself before Waiters is just like fuck you, pushes him and throws the ball in. There's two violations, the first on the Spurs. What Green did to Durant is an obvious foul in any other moment in the game. Then the Spurs get the steal and have seven seconds of possession, two potential looks they pass up, an open corner shot they miss badly and, generally speaking, every fucking opportunity to score. There was also a lot of shoving and reaching and popping during those seven seconds but the play was called evenly (read: not at all) and everyone was fouling everyone else. Spurs got their shot, no way can you tell me they got screwed. I thought the conclusion to the broadcast was unprofessional.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

They did the rule a change about 5 years ago to speed the game up. I believe under 2 minutes there is no warning for the defender stepping out of bounds on a inbounds pass. REmember all the teams used to do that to get a glimpse at the play the offense was running.

Should have been a tech.

i liked the old way, sometimes it forced a team to use another timeout and i guess that slowed shit down. the warning itself did not, really. lmao @ that rationale though because basketball at both levels is becoming as unwatchable as the NFL. last minute is brutal. they stuff in an ad for buffalo wild wings between every breath

I dont know that you double. When a guy is in that kind of heat check you let him go to work and play the law of averages.

You start doubling and scrambling and thats exactly what teh sours want and allows other guys to really get going. You were able to sneak out a win despite that kind of game --largely in part because Kawhi never got going.

You can double situationally like doubling Tim in the post or forcing the ball out of a hot guard's hands early in the shot clock but a consistent double will get you burned. They move the ball very well.

afraid of Leonard. To be clear, I'm not saying that has changed...but COTDAMN, I underestimated Aldridge. I mean, don't get me wrong, I knew dude could ball and I never bought into that "he soft" narrative. Dude, though, has been not of this world so far in this series. Like...he damn near can't miss...and the array of moves he's demonstrating are jaw-dropping. He gets the ball and there's ZERO hesitation...he's shooting immediately or getting to his spot to execute. Much respect. He's abusing Serge. I think he might break his confidence if they don't send a double to mitigate this onslaught.

Leonard should have played more minutes. there is a 3 day gap for game 3.

It was painful seeing duncan miss those bunnies.

the first quarter was the real reason the spurs had trouble closing the gap.

LMA is a beast and clowning ibaka.

Parker looks slow... needs to get his shot going to be more helpful on the offense end.

I still think Spurs win this series.. Thunder have two top 10 players on the court but the rest of the team I just can't trust for winning a competitive series.

>Leonard should have played more minutes. there is a 3 day gap
>for game 3.

I knew Kawhi's shot was off when he missed both his FTs but he got it going in the 2nd quarter & Pop proceeded to bench him which led to Russy getting into the lane at will for the rest of the quarter.

Russy didn't score a SINGLE point against Kawhi in a halfcourt set: he score a bunch in transition & switches but turned into WestBrick in the 2nd half when Kawhi was hounding him.

>It was painful seeing duncan miss those bunnies.

After his 2nd knee injury (which happened before the 1st matchup w/ Wardell & 'em), he basically has no lift b/c of the TWO knee braces. The Diaw/West tandem is unplayable against OKC b/c they can't boxout Kanter/Adams so Pop might have to give Boban minutes.

>the first quarter was the real reason the spurs had trouble
>closing the gap.

The Spurs outscored OKC by 11 after the 19-6 start. The missed layups led to transition point for OKC, esp. Russy.

>LMA is a beast and clowning ibaka.

Ibaka has ALWAYS been a TERRIBLE post defender ala DeAndre.

>Parker looks slow... needs to get his shot going to be more
>helpful on the offense end.

I couldn't believe it when he turned down a fastbreak layup when he saw Ibaka in his peripheral vision. But then Patty was atrocious, 0-6 in the 4th quarter including an air-ball on the last possession.

>I still think Spurs win this series.. Thunder have two top 10
>players on the court but the rest of the team I just can't
>trust for winning a competitive series.

If the Spurs limit OKC's transition defense (quit missing point blank layups) then KD/Russy aren't going to score enough against the Spurs set defense to beat them 3 out of 5 times.

The Spurs played a shitty game & were a wide open Patty 3 from stealing a game.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

Information overload.

There's no need pull out a microscope and over-analyze every single second of the game. The refs are human and will make mistakes in judgement from time to time.
As long as the mistakes don't happen too frequently and aren't biased in any way, there is no problem

In response to Reply # 155

Its what people do after that causes a problem.

Prior to the 2 min report, someone could argue for days on whether a call was right or not and the league generally just backed whatever the call was on the floor. The transparency is great, it's up to the receiver to decide what they want to do wi th it.

The NBA should officially back the calls on the floor. The referees are making these calls in real time.
This report is going back and watching plays in super slow motion and making critiques.
That is some stuff for internal purposes. Referee training and what not.

Also, why just focus on the last two minutes? What about the rest of the game? Does a missed swat on the wrist in the 3rd quarter not matter?

In response to Reply # 160

You notice that don't identify who missed which call or anything like that. I don't even think they list the refs on the report(although its obvious to figure out). Its impossible for a ref to get every call right for a myriad of reasons and the league recognizes that. This isn't to criticize the refs, but to address the complaints concerning league transparency and all the conspiracy theorists and crap like that.

The league used to back the calls on the floor and you'd have coaches, fans and players griping about missed calls for days. Now the league addresses it and everyone can move on.

You see how long the last 2 mins were? Ya'll complaining about how that is overkill. Imagine if they released info for the whole game.
Besides crunch time is overanalyzed anyway. If there is random turnover with 10 seconds left that is going to be on the highlights, not every other one during the game.

I don't see the benefit of them making the info public. Are they gaining some kind of equity with fans by being semi-transparent? Refs also, don't have the advantage of 8 big screens and frame-by-frame, Zapruder film analysis...so they're kinda making them look like schleps when they tell us how much shit they got wrong.

if people use it to point fingers att he refs for every missed call(something they were doing anyway) thats on them.

I distinctly remember alot of fan/team/player complaints over obvious missed calls when the league backed the mistakes in the past. This was a direct response to that

that they SHOULD have called a foul on Derozan when he Goldberg speared Mahinmi (sp?) in his back on the alley-oop attempt. Man pushing someone in the back when they jump is one of the most disruptive things you can do to a person in contact sports.

And now the three worst officials in the league, according to players and coaches we surveyed:

1. Scott Foster, with 24 votes.

2. Lauren Holtkamp, with 14 votes.

3. Marc Davis, with 12 votes.

Spurs went on a 10-2 run in the final 3 minutes or so in the 3rd, and the Aldridge-Kawhi-Green-Manu-Mills lineup was overwhelming OKC(offensively, OKC only got 1 clean look during that time)..I understand giving Aldridge a few minutes of rest after playing the entire 3rd, but using a Mills-Manu-Green-Diaw-West lineup after finally cutting the lead down to 1 was inexcusable..it was exacerbated by Pop's reaction to OKC's run, which was inserting Kyle Anderson for Manu (LoL)

That was the perfect opportunity to go for the kill with all the momentum, especially with Kawhi not being on foul trouble or anything..

It was only 3 minutes or so, but those 3 minutes are all it took for the Spurs to ultimately lose a 1-point game..it's the playoffs, not game 46 in January, smh..
