"2016 Mets - Fuck Catchy Titles, We're Catching Titles"

Thor might be the ace of this staff.

Wright might play 135 games, or he might play 15.

Yo being Yo is the new Manny being Manny (hopefully).

FREE DILSON!

Lots of fastballs.

Out for vengeance.

93-69. Champs.

Come get some.

i'm thinking before independence day

When Dilson arrives can we bat Wright 7th?

all jokes aside it was nice to see dwright get two sb. They looked encouraging in the boxscore at least.

So glad we don't see the royals again for a while.

Did the Degroms have their baby yet?

When are they gonna change the stupid all star game/home field in WS rule?

I don't think they'd bat DILSON! 2nd just yet. Most likely, he'd get shoved into the 8 spot with no protection, and have to hit his way out of it. But we're likely keeping Walker as the starter all year, unless DILSON! makes his case undeniably in AAA.

Because that COULD be an answer to how you keep Lagares's glove in Center (and just as importantly, Cespedes's glove OUT of Center).

“You want to have a song that doesn’t have curse words, obviously” Wright explained, “or that has a negative connotation — that you know of.”

That is why Wright is probably going to be changing his song this season. Last year, he walked up to Luniz’s ‘I Got 5 On It,’ his nod to the position he plays and the number he wears. Only later, when some people mentioned it to him, did Wright realize it was a drug culture reference.

exit velocities of 114 and 113 . . . sheesh.

https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/the-ford-five-presented-by-tri-state-ford-five-hardest-hit-balls-by-five-mets/174861168

Here are the five hardest hit baseballs by five of the hardest-hitting Mets*:

Lucas Duda - 114.85 MPH (double off Jerad Eickhoff, April 8)
Michael Conforto - 111.83 MPH (groundout against Casey Kelly, April 22)
Yoenis Cespedes - 110.98 MPH (lineout off Jerad Eickhoff, April 8)
Curtis Granderson - 109.10 MPH (double off Jeremy Hellickson, April 20)
Neil Walker - 108.16 MPH (home run off Ryan Weber, April 23)
*Certain players have his multiple balls very hard (Duda also has a 113.6 MPH exit velocity home run from April 19).

Offense is light years above what it was at this point last season, that's obvious. Our new additions (Walker and Cabrera) are performing well, Conforto is looking like the real deal and Lagares is at least back to his 2014 self. With Cespedes looking like a steal.

As far as pitching goes. We're off to a very good record with a shaky Harvey, and 2 Missed deGrom Starts and our pitchers not going as deep into games as they could. Syndergaard looking great early on but hopefully these stolen bases don't mess with him mentally. Matz also has lots of room to develop but has been successful working out of trouble for the most part. Bartolo is Bartolo and I'm cautiously optimistic about Wheeler when he returns. What I remember about him was that during his last go round he was struggling with high pitch counts. Hopefully he can work more efficiently when he returns because he also has great stuff.

Bullpen looks stronger than I expected even though Familia hasn't had that many shut down 9th innings (he's also not using his splitter yet).

Guys hitting a lot of balls but not getting much on them. Pop ups and fly outs galore. I thought for sure the offense would adjust but it never happened. As for Harvey, another rough start, but team can't win without scoring sooo...

Also is Conforto officially in a slump now or is it too early to say?

Totally agree about Wright! Maybe his back situation will cause him to readjust to what made him such a good hitter in the first place.

I also agree with Asdrubal Cabrera. He definitely knows his role on this team and with all of the power hitters surrounding him it doesn't really benefit him to swing for the fences, even though he has in the past.

I also want to add Lagares to that group although he doesn't really play enough IMO to be considered.

why not now? i don't see the point of putting him on the disabled list unless he has an actual injury, which i'm assuming he doesn't.

Also, the duda injury might be a blessing in disguise. We needed another bat with pop. I think we should deal for one (although i don't have anything specific in mind) but def feel like we need a kelly johnson/juan uribe type dude on the bench.

PS - I'm calling deGrom Loki now.

Loki been struggling to regain his form this year and Harvey has been much more noticeably struggling.

In their last start each, they both looked like they had regained their form. This bodes well.

Also, I'm a big fan of the Loney pickup. We need singles hitters to balance out all these TTO guys.

So long as it doesn't mean that after all this time, HE (and not Harvey) ends up being the guy to sign for the Yankees or Fucking Cardinals.

Thor is looking like the best of the bunch, and Matz uses his left arm to throw a baseball.

No team has three pitchers with $100 million contracts, let alone 4 (maybe 5 if Wheeler comes back well)

Closest thing to a headache for the team than the other guys.
Syndagaard is the best investment based off of talent and age
Harvey would likely want the biggest contract just because
He's also the worst hitter out of the bunch lol
Hits fagency first
Scott Boras(altho i'm not sure who reps the other guys)

Either way, we handled things with Soup at third for most of last season, too. And who knows, maybe that's Sandy's deadline surprise - a trade for Kyle Seager or someone.

I happen to think he'd help to rebalance the lineup, by moving Grandy back (so long as Grandy doesn't respond to that by hacking).

If we can get Bruce and Cespedes going together...look out.

The pitching is gonna be sus for the rest of the year(hopefully Degrom/Syndergaard can dominate) but the rest is eh.

Our offense is gonna need 5+ runss a night.

26-11 gets us to 89 wins. Seems lofty but out of our 37 remaining games, 22 are against sub .460 teams(Phils, Reds, Twins, Braves) including 13 out of our last 16.

9 against teams ahead of us in the wild card(Marlins and Cards)

and then 6 against the Nats.

Let's do this.

not that bruce can't turn it around but for whatever reason it ain't easy coming to the mets and playing OF.

cespedes has balled out from day 1. the idea that the mets would somehow let him walk after this year is insanity.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

It's how LaRussa's Cardinals won their titles.

I'd be totally happy with, like, Kelly Johnson (who is RAKING right now) being our playoff hero

**Obvious caveats regarding their record of success relative to ours, etc.**

But yeah, Sandy added a TON of MLB talent to the roster this year. I remember this post from back in March: https://thereadzone.com/2016/03/01/sandy-aldersons-great-boring-2016-mets-roster/

It lauded Sandy for the outstanding depth he built, and showed how it was likely to pay off in the event of injuries to our core. Well, the injuries we've seen go far beyond what that article predicted in the worst-case scenario, and yet here we are, keeping our heads (narrowly) above water.

A guy goes down, and we have someone either in AAA or at the end of the bench who can step up. Guys like Lugo and Montero are keeping us afloat. That's how actual professional organizations work, and the Mets look like they might be in danger of becoming one of them for the first time in a while.

I want this whole squad back...ces, bruce, reyes....IF TJ is the real deal, we can let walker go even though he had a good year.

Get the pitching staff healthy.

Get a catcher...i'm done with d'arnaud.

Get the captain to retire.

thor can't go into next season with those same issues holding runners. He's gotta be working on that all offseason.

His era probably woulda been around 2.2-2.3 if not for all the basestealing.
