"Nike Be Fuckin' Up: How Steph Left Nike For Under Armour "

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15047018/how-nike-lost-stephen-curry-armour

"The pitch meeting, according to Steph's father Dell, who was present, kicked off with one Nike official accidentally addressing Stephen as "Steph-on," the moniker, of course, of Steve Urkel's alter ego in Family Matters. "I heard some people pronounce his name wrong before," says Dell Curry. "I wasn't surprised. I was surprised that I didn't get a correction."

It got worse from there. A PowerPoint slide featured Kevin Durant's name, presumably left on by accident, presumably residue from repurposed materials. "I stopped paying attention after that," Dell says. Though Dell resolved to "keep a poker face," throughout the entirety of the pitch, the decision to leave Nike was in the works."

lack of respect from such a large corporation shows complete laziness due to athletes falling head over heels to sign (some very big) deals with them in the past.

I don't know about UA as a brand. I still think dudes that wear their array of dry-wick kufis, undercover police accessories, and ribbed workout tights are misguided, but more power to Curry for evening the playing field and keeping Nike honest.

All the apparel is really great. High quality materials, and they incorporate nice little design touches like a high collar on their pullover hoodies so your neck doesn't get cold. The coaches' polos we ordered up are like twelve orders of quality better than the Nike shirts that the school gave to all of the spring coaches.

ETA: Their cleats are still wack as hell. Especially when compared to the Huarache Vs: http://lacrosseunlimited.com/nike-huarache-5-elite-lacrosse-cleats-thompson-creators-pack-edition.html?gclid=CP6NiJ-i18sCFQyNaQodbPoK4A

i have never worn any of their cleats but i know the highlight football cleats with all that clutchfit crap on them sold very, very well. i though they did a lax version of them and figured it would be at least decent.

i have tried nike's lacrosse stuff and it's pretty good. the materials on their indoor stuff seem a little cheap but the shoe is very comfortable (huarache ones). i bought a white/orange pair to wear with an old philadelphia wings jersey.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Then again, I also rolled with a pair of Copa Mundials when I played lacrosse in college.

And man, I miss the Wings. My school did our alumni game with them, so we'd go, catch a game and then get to play on the floor afterward. The crowd was hyped (for the Wings, not our not even D3 asses) every time.

but they are just a pared down version of other cross-trainers they offer anyway. for a maryland based company i figured they would be bigger into it overall.

the wings had a nice little niche. i never got to a game. the jersey i have is an early 2000s repro from the 70s (dallas eliuk). i did go see the barrage or whatever. that was kind of a weird, shot clock, no restraining box. i think they had some kind of weird rule about defensemen, too. it was kind of like arena lacrosse.

like when i last moved to philly he was on his way out via trade. must have been a TBTC type of deal. definitely an older style jersey, wide-hole mesh like the oilers and stars used on their jerseys in the 80s.

its worked out for all parties involved. Steph gets the Lebron treatment from UA. Nike eating well off all the sig lines this year except the KDs i believe. they're dropping the retail like $30 on that for the new one after the current one's performance.

them Curry 3 numbers are gonna be astronomical if he rings/MVPs again this year.

both got Curry 2's instead of Lebrons, and they asked for them.

And while Bags here shitting on appearances, let's not act like that's not Rotten Tomatoes rotten tomato icon on the side of the new Lebrons, or act like Jordan doesn't make shit looking shoes for Russ, Melo, etc.

i didnt say it was panning out for them yet just an acknowledgement of their effort and what i've experience. but you can see some results starting to bubble with the HS kids now. i'd say they're about 5 years away from really reaping the benefits on the nba level as far as their roster.

i cant even pretend to be objective though lol. im team nike/jordan all day.

but play summer ball elsewhere.

And while I haven't seen all 16u rosters.

17U? Loaded.

and summer is where a lot of the players looking to play together starts, as well as transferring high schools.

which bodes well for the circuit that has the most talent.

I root for competition. It's just gonna be tough when the big dude puts together his resources towards stopping you.

they had a chance to keep him and didnt.

That attitude was why the meeting was crap..it wasn't just that they were lazy.

No wonder bazemore was always so happy.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

He averaged 22 and 7 (not far off his numbers from this year, granted in way more minutes) and had just come off a 78 game season and what most figured was a breakout year. Wasn't like he'd JUST signed his contract...he signed that the year before I think.

And the playoffs that year vs the Spurs was a pretty close 6 game series where he scored 44 in the first game in a 2OT loss against the damn Spurs. He was making the leap.

I think nike, and many other people at that time, considered kyrie irving to have a better chance of moving past the russell westbrooks and derrick roses of the world.

kyrie averaged 22 and 6 that same year.

clearly they were wrong, but that's what they thought.

that offseason, I think you can say they SHOULD'VE known he was on the upswing, but they're far from the only ones who missed it coming, and with his injuries it was easy to shrug off

UA is just beginning to dabble, when I was in Brazil I noticed that they outfit some of the pro teams there. Nike does tons of big clubs (Arsenal, Man U, Barca, etc) and lots of prominent national teams, too (Brazil, Holland, etc).

Their cleats are getting wildly expensive, I have seen some that push $400 now.

intermilan, juventus, i guess some have gone back and forth with adidas (e.g. ac milan). seems like a really competitive market with so many different manufacturers. i kind of wish the north american leagues would let the teams contract individually like they once did. you know some teams would take it very seriously (cowboys, red wings, et al) and produce better quality jerseys with their own manufacturers.

i guess in soccer you've got nike, adidas, puma, reebok, umbro, kappa, le coq sportif, under armour and probably more than i am forgetting. that's unmatched. i can remember in the nfl/usfl at one point there was decent variety over a period of time with wilson, russell, bike, apex, nike, reebok, adidas and southland.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

The KD 9 is going to be $150, a $30 drop.

The elite model of the Lebron 13 costs the same as the regular Lebron 13 did. And the KD 8 elite is only $20 more. They're usually like $50-$75 more.

Even the Jordan 30 was cheaper than the Jordan 29.

than the top signature models of other brands(UA - Curry, Adidas - Rose) that are like $60-$70 cheaper, or the lesser priced Nike models like the Zoom Soldier, Hyperdunks, Kyrie's etc.

Nike's top signature models are way overpriced, and they're sitting. Lebron's and KD's are on sale everywhere right now and have been for awhile because nobody bought them like that this year.

honest question.

seems counter intuitive.

Need guys to buy the stuff on the shelves before they can be resold huh?

why does Nike care if they are being resold for double the price?

they getting their money on the first go round.

If don't want people to resell - should make more so they are
easier to get.

they paying dirt to have them made anyway, make some more.

I'm anticipating some internal doc release revealing Nike cutting cost and using subpar materials in their shoes recently

I expect that Tony Wroten doesn't possess some freak athletic ability that would make the same pair of shoes explode

Most of their shoes I see now are just retreads of what they released years before.

Not saying Adidas doesn't have their faults either, the Yeezy $300 Payless nursing shoe comes to mind, but more originality with the 3 stripes.
