"So we agree that this game kills the whole #Rings argument right?"

Cause giving Peyton credit for this one is like giving Brady credit for his first.

Literally any QB could have won with that defense

Peyton has played well enough over his career to have 2 SB rings. That makes this one valid

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

that whole run, Dungy leaned heavier on the run game and defense.

In the Bowl, he dumped off a lot of passes to Addai and Addai made things happen.

100+ yards rushing from Dom Rhodes also played a big part.

Peyton is an example that Rings don't tell the whole story. Nobody is moving him up the list based solely on this ring (a loss would have moved him down I'm sure though)

However it does not mean that a Rings argument does not carry whatever weight someone would have put on it prior since Peyton is not the first or last example of it not being a great measuring factor.

I assume everyone's opinions remain the same

Ring-counting to 'rate' qbs is usually lazy/hot-takeous hack analysis. It is usually called upon to prop up agendas/biases/shenanigans.

This has been being the case. Water is also wet. Folks know better but the rings is a good enough excuse for folks to be asses about certain players.

Peyton made a few decent throws. He Omaha'd into the right play at least a few times. He also threw several interceptions. One got caught. He fumbled to help keep Carolina alive. His mistakes didn't tank his team like Cam's did mainly because of where his turnovers happened.

Peyton didn't 'win' the game for Denver. That wasn't his role. He got carried. He knows it. And he'll take it. No matter what folks say, football is a team game. Qb is a huge part of it, and the blocking a qb gets is usually as important. But it is harder to talk linemen and schemes. It's easier to hate/love one guy out of 22.

Cam had some really low moments and he didn't get enough protection to make plays. And even when he did, dudes dropped passes.

Peyton threw that across the body interception in OT. which was after the Denver defense gave up A 70-YARD TOUCHDOWN PASS WITH 40 SECONDS LEFT to tie the game. which is one of the biggest defensive chokes in NFL playoff history.

*offense* should've never been in that position in the first place. lmao, talk about agendas...look up a damn box score.

P. Manning tossed a pick-6 in the first half and had a lost fumble that resulted in a Baltimore TD in the second half.

So, like I said, defense shouldn't have been in that position in the first place. Not that they played great or anything. But Manning didn't help matters either.

sounds like you brought a preconceived agenda into this little thread. in his first year in Denver, Manning did his part (which is different from *perfect*) and the defense indeed let him down. you're reaching at air like a mistimed Rahim Moore jump.

That's a terrible example...Peyton made some mistakes but he also led them on what should have been the GW drive. Rahim Moore completely misjudged and misplayed what should have been an INT and turned it into a game tying TD.

Denver offense/Manning did NOT put up 34 points (they scored 35 anyway), they put up 21 points. The other two Denver TDs were the result of a punt and a kick return.

in his two Super Bowl wins, he had very little to do with the team's success, and in other years where they fell short he was the "whole f'in show" (c) rob van damme.

the #RINGS argument has always been stupid, i don't get why we are constantly repudiating it. who was a better NBA center? john thompson jr or patrick ewing? i think thompson has four rings and ewing had zero, but yet thompson is most famous for ewing elevating his coaching career to a new level.

you could go on for days, these are TEAM SPORTS. this is not boxing, it's football, 50+ guys against 50+ other guys.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

but to ignore championships would be silly since that is the mark of excellence for athletes. Seems silly to me to hold individuals to high standards, but ignore the accomplishment that comes with winning a championship.

The thing that over the years has swung me away from the Peyton, obviously, camp vis-a-vis Brady is how they have each performed in big situations. I still think Manning has done more to get his teams into those situations, but Brady has been a better performer once his teams get there.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

In response to Reply # 0

that whole run through the playoffs was basically the end of "all Peyton does is choke"

because each step of the way to the Super Bowl the Colts had to face a major weakness:

1) Wild Card Round vs. Chiefs - wack run defense v. one of the best running games of the AFC

2) Divisional Round vs. Ravens - strong interior defense taking away Peyton's passing game for the most part. game was won on field goals

3) AFCCG vs. Pats - Peyton's nemesis up until that point, Spygate Pats always found the way. Peyton actually started that game looking like pure SHIT. Multiple INTS, was down something like 24-6 at the half. Defense balled out and Peyton balled out to go to the Super Bowl.

by the time he got to the Super Bowl vs. Bears - Thank You For Playing. Enjoy the Bonus Stage.

now he's a super bowl winning head coach in his 1st season with Denver.

WOW!

Most of that is on Elway and his ability to get big names to sign, but Peyton is smart enough not to eff it up with ego, at least.

And led that game winning drive, so your comparison is obviously biased. Peyton did absolutely nothing of any significance in this game so to compare the two is some okayplayer logic.

To me that's his legacy. He went to an entirely new squad and took them to 2 super bowls, winning 1. Now he gets to ride out into the sunset with a big middle finger to Jim Ersay.

Even though Panthers lost I'm happy for Peyton. Hope he goes into coaching and wins 10 rings.

Who cares, I still saw it. Are our experiences invalidated by time. I think not, and frankly that's a dangerous agenda for a Packers fan to start pressing. Take away history and your franchise is a bunch of underachievers, frankly.

But I like history.

Russell Wilson already been to more SB's than Rodgers and is more likely to win another one, yet you are in here dealing in all types of slander. Don't allow your anger at his role in prolonging that Quarter-Century to get the best of you.

Manning means drafting better offensive linemen and receivers thus keeping your defense off the field for long stretches of time. The organization saves face and future reputation by avoiding repeated cheating scandals.
