The talent is there, pretty undeniably... but I watched the UNLV, Kansas, and Wake games, and at no point did I envision anything resembling the defensive effort tonight, nor did I envision the offensive efficiency against a tough defense they showed tonight. Their 3 point shooting was pretty atrocious leading up to this game, couldn't defend the perimeter (or inside the perimeter either, for that matter), and when you add the insane inconsistency from pretty much everyone to start the season...

... put it this way, I thought up until maybe 3 or 4 minutes left that UK was still going to win, lol.

Maybe it just ended up with the perfect storm-- UK couldn't make their jumpers, UK couldn't stop the drives, their interior defender gets hurt, their other wing defender can't not foul, their best playmaker is playing hurt... add that together with UCLA unable to miss their shots and getting their hands on every loose ball that mattered, and it added up to victory. Or maybe this is the moment these players needed to get things clicking and start playing the way they want to play all year long.

They'll get another great test next weekend against a much tougher interior. And really they shouldn't count out Long Beach State, a team that's already beaten and/or nearly beaten better teams solely on the strength of their 3 point shooting.

We'll see how the post-UK play goes. Again, they're super talented... but so is Indiana. So is UNLV. Plenty of talented teams have ended up not very good. Early on this season, it definitely seemed like this team was headed down that path.

looked like freshman.

Once Marcus Lee is done for the game and you have to depend on Poythress to defend and not foul and Skal to do anything that doesn't evolve pretty stuff where nobody touches you, it's a wrap.

But still if Murray would've been aggressive, we could've made this a game.

Ehhh... Hopefully we see them in the tournament.

You better not cyse skal if he's a one and done. That dude is the biggest example of a kid who will fail physically in the pros and needs college. Like you said some beautiful looking shit like the lefty and right hook the help side block- but he shied away from contact from anyone taller than 5'3

Are those things cal develops?

On the flip side Murray goes ham at the end and couldn't pull the tucking trigger on a shot until 3 minutes left. It's not like there weren't looks. He just wouldn't fucking shoot.

Skal is solid at shooting and would look like a boss in a workout against nobody. But he needs muscle. His base is so weak. He's like a big SF right now. Eddie Griffin without the rang and shot blocking.

Cal could help Skal with that, if Humphries or Poythress were playing better. Because he'd just sit him. Maybe if Tai gets to play this year, he can show everybody what work and muscle looks like.

I have no idea what Murray was doing. He looks lost when he doesn't have the ball.

I heart Briscoe though.

I think of the post with the pic of Charlie V, Yi, and Bogut on the Bucks. And somebody said they look like Bond Villains.

I'm just now getting over being sick though, and I figured the bike ride up there wasn't going to be worth it just to see a boring-ass blowout. Shame on me.

Give him another month or two of Cal screaming at him, and at the very least, he'll be working his ass off, even if he lacks the strength of some bigs he may face.

Similar to how I feel about Ingram, really. I don't need either of these guys to showcase crazy strength, because they're still so young and need time to fill out. I need them to show they aren't afraid of physicality, that's all-- the attitude, the drive. Ingram flexed on Indiana in a big way, which is a nice start to that process. As long as neither of them look scared by March, they'll be high draft picks.
