All I want is for this team to show promise and for the rookies to stay healthy and develop. The FAs will come if that happens. If not...were in for a long year. Obviously no playoffs but I think this team can win 30-40 games if all goes well.

haven't had the opportunity in the league yet...then have guys who have been in the league for a second, but have seemingly reached their ceiling... We had guys like Wes....Xavier...Hill....Davis...Ellington...they was cool..but they pretty much are who they are....you not going to build ground up with those kind of guys..

Now with Clarkson, Russell, Randle, Nance, Brown, Black, Upshaw...now you got minutes for young players who are fresh...and hungry to show what they can do.

You build your team with other teams flame outs...a hopelessness is always going to be under the surface with your team. There's no upside..these guys are who they are.

Now you got a young core...you have some vets like Bass, Lou, Hibbard, Swag, who have actually contributed in the league during times... Whatever Kobe can give you ..you know how he gets down..

I'm just excited to see a nice young core of players...

D'Angelo running screen-roll, Julius playing off of that and hopefully cementing a mid-range game to complement his face-up ability, Clarkson continuing to attack and developing his jumper + defensive consistency, seeing how Kobe mixes in, Hibbert's ability to wall the paint...will be nice to finally have some young, athletic blood on this team and I'm hoping it particularly shows up on the defensive end.

Kobe on D'Angelo being the primary ball-handler: "that's what we brought him here to do and he's phenomenal at it"...."that's what he does best is organize the offense".

Lo and behold, guess who was the primary ball-handler at practice today?

fukk a stretch 4....

if he's not making shots he's worthless.... Tarik Black can defend and rebound..hell...suit up Nance Jr. to get to the rack on em..

but damn.... when the shit was getting out of hand...he wouldn't sub the starters back..and then when he did...he kept Kelly out there damn near as a defensive sub before putting Randle back in..

I don't get that...

suit up Ron-Ron.....fukk that...

if Kelly don't make some 3s early sit his ass back on the bench and put in someone who can fukkin do something..

Kelly's value is as a shooter...he got to some good spots last night but he was throwing up some bricks. You can't continue to trot him out there if he's not shooting well.

The sub pattern made absolutely no sense either....you have to put some of the starters back into the game if the 2nd unit has that prolonged of a bad stretch.

we looked great though for most of the game..I just really wanted to go to bed on an opening win after last year..

The kelly/Base front-court when you're giving up 37 points in a quarter...and then you play them for 5 more minutes into the 4th, just a real head-scratcher. The dude I really wanna see is Brown...our best perimeter defender and he can stroke it. 3 and D, let this kid get some burn and develop.

Man, I'm so with you on getting that first win to open the season...I couldn't sleep that night afterwards, woke up in a bad mood.

There's NO FUCKING REASON D'Angelo should not see the floor for 13 straight minutes after the best stretch of his young career....and further, you can see his defensive activity level has increased particularly when he's fighting through screens.

This fucking idiot rationalized Lou's minutes last game by saying he was playing too well (even though is chucking and black hole behavior is what got us into a hole in the first place) to take out for DRuss...so what exactly was the excuse today? Not only did he not put him in when Lou was playing poorly and the offense was stagnating, he puts him back on the floor before yanking him after 2 minutes even though it was Kobe and Randle forcing on the offensive end.

What the fuck kind of message is this to your #2 pick who has already been feeling so much scrutiny. He responds with his best overall game and you still don't change a damn thing. I hate this shit.

Guys, dumb half-asaed commentary like this...I can't
take it.

I can't.

You're mad because hedidn't coddle D'Angelo on a road
game where Scott's coaching helped to secure the team's
first win of the season?

Are you joking?

This just in: Your team fucking sucks. Is awful. You're
going to have to experiment with all kinds of combinations
to see how people respond to different situations.

The only player with any kind of benefit of the
doubt other than Clarkson is Lou Will, because he was NBA 6th
Man of the Year, on an excellent team, and played in the playoffs. There are NO other players on that team who demonstrated
anything with any kind of consistency last year, to warrant
anything resembling a benefit of the doubt.

And your biggest problem is Kobe Bryant. Unless you can
tell Scott how to handle that situation, you have nothing
to say.

>There's NO FUCKING REASON D'Angelo should not see the floor
>for 13 straight minutes after the best stretch of his young
>career....and further, you can see his defensive activity
>level has increased particularly when he's fighting through
>screens.

Three Laker fans saying Kobe is done, kindly stfu and KIM. Kobe being a serious problem doesn't mean that Byron also isn't a problem, those things aren't mutually exclusive. Obviously I wouldn't expect you or Troll_OE to understand or admit to that.

Ya'll dudes so pressed you're in a team post that has nothing to do with you.

As in playing your #2 draft pick minutes, which is completely controlled by Byron, and allowing him to build experience, especially when he's having his best game of the year...as in me literally above saying "win or lose" implying I don't care if we win and am mad Byron isn't playing a rookie..as in me and 2 other Laker fans asking for Kobe to hang them up?

Would you consider those things to be re-building statements? There are direct comments in this post and the Friday post contradicting your lying. KIM and stop lying.

Bwahahahahahahaahahhahahhahahhahahhahahahahhahhahhahahaha

What a piece of shit you are

He has an obligation to the ENTIRE roster

He has OTHER young guys to develop and think about

He has an OBLIGATION to do the best for EVERYONE

It is a LONG season...Russell has PLENTY of opportunities

You gonna give him CREDIT for how's dealt with Randle?
Coming off a devastating injury, he's allowed Randle to
find his place.....Byron get credit for that?

It's an 82 game season and he's 19 years old. He's going

it's OK, no one will take your laker fan card for telling the truth about 100-year-old kobe. dude chose money over winning in his later years and that's how his should career should end. and of course he has no business being on a team that supposedly represents the best 12 players in the world or very close to it, when he is one of the worst starters in the entire league.

we are not talking about a guy who comported himself with class or who put winning above all else. he deserves to go out exactly how he is going out.

Um, I've said multiple times he should retire.

>if he wanted to "go
>out a winner," he could have done what dirk did, he could have
>looked for an opportunity to play a reduced role elsewhere,
>etc.

Always easy for the person not being offered the money to say that. Fact is the organization offered him the deal and he accepted it...financially we've already been over why it was a great deal for the team and he has said it himself, he's not going to be paid below what he is worth...that's a slippery slope precedent to set. I wish he would have taken the pay-cut but I also understand his financial leverage and that he always felt he could still be a top player in the league (obviously not true but his stubbornness made him great, now it's hurting us)

>we are not talking about a guy who comported himself with
>class or who put winning above all else. he deserves to go out
>exactly how he is going out.

And I said he shouldn't be on the team...so clearly I couldn't care less about if he goes out winning or not. There's a difference between saying that and the extra emo stuff you decided to throw in there as well.

But I know why he wants to be, of course. He wants to go out a champion. There's always a token member of that team so I wouldnt count it out.

Also...kinda rad to go out as a 3x gold medal winner at his age.

But agreed, he'd be taking a spot from a better player for sure. Dude is just (seemingly) not willing to listen to what his body is telling him.

....also, anyone who's accomplished what he does deserves to suck all they can out of the NBA and their team. He's worth 5x what his contract is, even right today...in terms of $$$$.

the money thing, like i said, i'd have given if i were the lakers. to say he deserves five times that much? lol, now who's being emo? he got paid plenty in his career, one of the few stars who, in a relative way at least, didn't get screwed.

It's 5x Kobe's contract and then some every year. You think people are paying that to see any other player on the roster? Let alone the ancillary income from having Kobe on the roster? He's overpaid from a contributing standpoint, that's obvious. But as a business decision? They made the right move.

a couple years lebron cashed a $22M check, he generated $200M for nike. but that doesnt mean he's entitled to all the $200M.

yes, stars should make more as a whole but kobe is a poor example of that because he got in on a favorable pay scale (hence why he made over $30M recently), and talking about the TWC deal, he's been garbage since they have been broadcasting the games. i get that the argument is that he got them there but we are not talking about jordan here, the lakers had a brand and stars and success before him and frankly could have had it without him. i dont mean to discredit what he did do, i am just saying he isn't the whole show.

We're saying the same thing which is Kobe's contract was a business decision and not a basketball one. The jury is out on Jimmy Buss, but I totally understand what was done here - and realistically, that money wasn't going to be spent on quality players elsewhere.

First and foremost - I'm not saying DLo is a bust. He's not as far along as I hoped, but I knew Okafor would look better out of the gate (not THIS good, but better). I'm just wondering if Clarkson makes DLo redundant.

Would we be better off with Okafor/Randle/Clarkson (or for that matter rolling with Hibbert/Randle/Zingis/Kobe/Clarkson)?

I'm not overreacting...but the biggest question mark to me is whether or not we can actually get a good big in FAgency, which Byron admitted played into picking Russell.

No he doesn't. Clarkson's explosiveness and improved set-shot are complemented extremely well by Russell. Clarkson is a very good on the ball player but his ability is amplified against a rotating defense. DRuss is the type of guard who can take a good team to a great team because he links the entire floor, especially as he gets his legs underneath him which will result in a high % jumper.

Okafor doesn't fit with Randle at the 4 and how exactly do you expect Zingis to guard the 3...which also takes him away from the basket so his defensive length and rebounding are nullified.

Seems like you are. Not only is Russell is 6 games into his rookie season but none of these guys have played together before. What you need alongside Randle is a defensive big who can lock the paint defensively and finish around the rim...there are some FA's who fit that mold (Whiteside, Drummond, even Hibbs at a reasonable rate).

Due to Kobe, Byron, and being the Lakers...he's stuck in this stupid transition time period of trying to win while rebuilding. He's the type of player who willingly gives the ball up but on this team, never gets it back (we are dead last in total passes even with the 7th highest pace...so many ball-stoppers on this team and when you're trying to run a Princeton variant, that's a terrible mix)...the team movement is so limited. I watched the Nuggets game last night and Mike Malone has Mudiay involved in so many screen-rolls from different parts of the floor, Zingis is being used to pop on screen-roll, Okafor has a huge usage rate and mostly on the block.

The Knicks game was the first time you could see DRuss being vocal (esp with Julius) and he was controlling the setup offensively before initiating...can't even imagine the frustration of having to watch Kobe chuck shots when it's clear he doesn't have it.

His defensive issues are over-blown but those 2 in combination are never going to be a plus defensive pair....that's why KAT was a no-brainer and that's why getting a center who can control the paint is so important going forward.

if you had em both and it didnt work out, cool, dump randle's ass. he had done nothing to that point to prove he was worth basing a decision that important on. when you have a pick in the top 5, you don't sweat fit. you're a shitty team or you wouldnt have the pick, and you take the best talent that gives a chance at being relevant.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

All the reports coming out from his scrimmages and development were glowing...and he's shown why this season, albeit with the usual growing pains of a rookie. Knowing that, I think it's silly to not pro-actively find players who fit together especially when there's a player like Russell who not only has the on-court skills but many of the intangibles you look for from a leader. Russell's work-outs and interviews with the Lakers were by far the most impressive...he's the type of player who makes the sum greater than the parts, but it will take Kobe leaving, and a staff who understands the team's strengths/weaknesses. Okafor certainly has a great skillset but D'Angelo has a unique mindset of always sharing the ball to go along with his skillset, you don't find that often.

“I feel like we play through the offense. Then it breaks down and we go away from it,” Russell told Los Angeles News Group. “Then we don’t move at all. We get an early shot or a shot deep into the possession. We have to figure out how to balance off good shots and timing. Everybody starts to feel like they can play hero ball. We know we can’t do it by ourselves. But we still manage not to trust each other and get it going.”

Kid is only 19 but already gets it...and he's the only dude who doesn't get the side-eye for saying this because he actually practices what he preaches. Watching last night's game, he's the only dude on our roster who would fit into the W's team bc he believes in and plays team ball.
