Amazing how something that occurred within the matter of a few seconds has so many ramifications for so many folks, and just as importantly will probably screw this dude out of millions of dollars. I hope for his sake he'll be able to use his college degree to claim a job because I can't see another team wanting to put him on their roster.

I meant exercises like bench pressing, squats, and deadlifts; complex multi-joint exercises he's going to need to bulk up.

Even with that sled pull video that was shown the other day, he was trying to hide the messed up hand, which only drew more attention to it.

is what I'm troubled with the most. The missing index finger is bad in its own right, but the thumb is necessary to maintain grip, no? Maybe modern science can do something for that thumb, but it looks beyond repair from that photo I looked at last night.

upon grip.

he gonna have to work on hella modified machines.

i initially thought about him being able to lift weights and was like, 'he's screwed', but now that i think about it, he can lift, but just lift different. (like difference between doing leg press vs. squats).

that's crazy though.

he outchere lookin like football jimmy fallon.

which I imagine is key for a lineman since you have to push guys off you to an extent, which involves chest and forearm strength.

And you're correct in that he could use machines for the lower body exercises, but there's a limit to the weights you can press on a machine versus what you can lift with free weights on a barbell.

funny enough he could probably do a lot of kettlebell presses, both overhead and floor, because of the way it rests on the hand, compared to having to grip a bar or dumbbell.

some of the stuff military vet amputees and their coaches have rigged up for them to make the most of what they have left is incredible. I have a friend with one leg and one prosthetic from the thigh down who deadlifts close to 500. Not saying he'll be NFL caliber but in the bigger scheme of things you can always figure something out that will make you 10x better than a sedentary person.

did they ever say what kind of fireworks, like was it a homemade or just a regular black cat type? I could see fuse going quicker than expected but damn, that seems like it had to be stronger to take out a finger and thumb. My ex father in law made M80s with gun powder and would throw them, basically small dynomite, always thought he was stupid/crazy for it. Some people still lighting roman candles off in their hands, makes no sense to me...

Maybe he should have stuck with the snaps.

I knew a guy who damn near lost an arm with a M100 that had a fucked up fuse. In the end he just had a bunch of bad burns and they grafted skin from other parts of his body. He was half a second from really being fucked up though, who knows, that's basically a poor man's stick of dynamite.

You blow your hand up, it looks nasty, no?

It will be interesting to see if he can come back from this. Obviously in most sports and in most positions in football even he would be totally fucked. It would be cool if he were like the NFL's answer to Jim Abbott.

That being said, you have seen players play long-stretches and effectively (Cullen Jenkins comes to mind) with their hands in casts or clubbed up. There are plenty of rigs and straps for him to continue to maintain his strength via weights and he will have to adapt to not having as much grip leverage with that hand.

EAST RUTHERFORD — Jason Pierre-Paul has taken to social media once again to let the Giants know he feels he is on the mend.

The injured defensive end posted another workout video to his Instagram and Twitter accounts on Tuesday morning, this time showing him bench pressing. Pierre-Paul is decked out in blue Giants shorts and a Giants t-shirt, along with blue tights and blue-and-red sneakers.

If our high school weight room math still adds up, it looks like JPP has two 45-pound plates, a 5-pound plate and a bolt (those usually weighed about 2.5 pounds, if we recall correctly) on each side of the bar.

It's hard to say how much he's benching though, without knowing how much the bar weighs. Your typical bar probably weighs 45 pounds, but you never know how much might be added for professional athlete-types. So my guess here is JPP is benching 240 pounds. He threw up 19 reps of 225 pounds when he was at the NFL Combine in 2010.

And they say sports writers never played the game!

Anyway, JPP is also clutching some sort of yellow towel in his damaged right hand as he lifts, and one of his fingers appears to be sticking up. But, there does not appear to be any sign of a bandage on his hand, which he severely injured in a Fourth of July fireworks accident, eventually losing his index finger to amputation.

Last week, JPP showed the world a video of him running with a weighted sled. The world also got to see pictures of his hand for the first time after The Daily News snapped some pics down in South Florida.

JPP returned to the Giants two weeks ago and finally allowed them to examine his hand. But the Giants decided he was not ready to play and sent him back home. It is believed the next step will be a re-evaluation at some point in October.

But until then, it looks like JPP will keep making his case via the tools available to him on the worldwide web.

Dude wants that paper. Gotta think financially he's not close to being cool with his career ending. The fact he has to post these videos for all to see is sad since I'm certain if the Giants wanted to, they could have him do all these lifts and exercises under their supervision.

Someone else is going to have to provide a proper link and swipe because I'm half awake at work now, but it appears JPP did his thing and will play for the Giants after all. Adds so flavor to the garbage pile that will be the tail-end of the season for the NFC East division hunt.

But I do agree that ethically, Schefter probably shouldn't have tweeted it. No need.

that the finger was amputated. It makes him look even better as a reporter if he just said i have it from a confirmed source that jpp has xyz. There would be some doubters at first, but once other outlets report and confirm it, its like damn, schefty really got good sources.

Now its just like oh, he got access to info that was obtained illegally...not so impressive.
