DAMN

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13194922/deandre-jordan-looks-step-los-angeles-clippers-stars-shadows

The Los Angeles Clippers returned from their longest trip of the season in February having lost five of their eight games. But DeAndre Jordan posted some of the best numbers of his career over the stretch, including a 22-point, 27-rebound, 3-block effort in a win at Dallas to finish the trip.

The core of the team had been together for more than three years, and tempers were wearing thin. Jordan and Chris Paul had gotten into it more than once, which led Jordan to start seriously contemplating what it might be like to play elsewhere in 2015-16.

He was tired of Paul's constant barking and petty gestures, like distributing high-fives to the three other guys on the floor following a timeout but somehow freezing out Jordan. Optics aside, the biggest issue for Jordan was that, despite the leaps and bounds he made to be named first team all-defense, the Clippers always treated him like the player he was when he arrived in the NBA, and never like the player he'd become.

From the moment he arrived on the campus of Texas A&M in 2007, Jordan was tagged with a red flag. He was labeled a head case whose physical gifts would never translate into on-court production. Once a potential top-10 talent, he sank to the second round of the 2008 NBA draft, where he was taken No. 35 overall, though some in the Clippers organization wanted to select Mike Taylor.

When Jordan arrived in Los Angeles, he was the consummate "project" big man, regarded as a slow learner with confidence issues to boot. During those first couple of seasons, the Clippers made more outgoing calls than incoming ones on Jordan, who saw little playing time.

EDITOR'S PICKS

Pelton: Cuban finally lands his man in DeAndre Jordan
The Mavericks score a win by signing DeAndre Jordan, but filling out the rest of their roster will be a challenge.

Adande: Clippers should think smaller now
DeAndre Jordan's departure for Dallas means the Clippers should now embrace the trend toward smaller lineups.
Texas two-step finally makes a Mavs summer a success
After years of striking out on big-name free agents, the Mavericks finally landed a core to buoy the team in Dirk Nowitzki's golden years.
But little by little, Jordan became a more confident offensive player and, much more notably, a rim protector who began to grasp the nuances of pick-and-roll coverage and back-line defensive rotations. When Doc Rivers arrived in Los Angeles in 2013, he immediately anointed Jordan a member of the Clippers' big three and declared Jordan's candidacy for defensive player of the year.

Yet for as much confidence as Rivers' "Don't worry about your touches, just defend like hell" shtick inspired the young center, Jordan still wanted to expand his offensive role. This belief intensified during Blake Griffin's absence in parts of February and March, when Jordan felt as if he proved he was an honest-to-goodness offensive threat, routinely putting up 20-plus points without sloughing off any of the dirty work on the glass and on the defensive end.

At Jordan's request, he and the Clippers began to have more substantive conversations about how he might expand his role, both on the offensive end and in the team's marketing campaign. All the while, a few teams around the league started to quietly send out signals that, were Jordan to entertain the idea of playing somewhere other than with the Clippers next season, they'd be interested in his services.

Intelligent people can debate whether Jordan was truly worthy of an all-defense nod this season, but his production never waned. He logged 16 points, 17 boards, four steals and three blocks in Game 7 of the Clippers' devastating Western Conference semifinals loss to Houston. Jordan's exploration of free agency began in earnest soon thereafter.

There was considerable interest in Jordan but also a challenge. Many of the early suitors couldn't offer Jordan the expanded offensive role he coveted. But there were a few that could, namely Dallas, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. Of course, there were still the Clippers, where Jordan had made his mark, and played alongside his closest friend in basketball, Griffin. And though Rivers might not have always been successful giving Jordan the kind of post touches he wanted -- and one could argue Rivers' vision of Jordan's role in the offensive was spot-on -- the coach had been a catalyst for the center's development.

Yet when the recruiting process got underway, the Clippers were off-key. Jordan gave the Clippers the first shot at choosing a time slot, according to sources, but scheduling the meeting was a chore. All the while, the Mavericks, Lakers and Knicks each gave compelling basketball presentations about how their respective offenses could accommodate Jordan with nifty pick-and-roll sets and, in the Mavericks' case, play calls that leveraged Dirk Nowitzki's range to give Jordan baseline seals and duck-ins. It was everything Jordan had envisioned: A Dwight Howard-size role in an NBA offense.

The Clippers came in and told Jordan he was central to their team success, but in contrast to the other suitors, their message was shrouded in ambiguity. The marketing piece from president of business operations Gillian Zucker was compelling, but the basketball pitch offered few of the particulars he saw in the other meetings. Still, that wasn't the biggest beef.

Jordan is a very impressionable guy who was tarred first as immature, then as an underachieving athletic freak, then as a convenient scapegoat for Paul and others whenever things became wobbly. And now the Clippers' primary rival for Jordan, the Mavericks, couldn't do enough to convey their love for Jordan. Nowitzki interrupted his vacation to fly to Los Angeles to join Chandler Parsons to take Jordan out. Mark Cuban and Rick Carlisle wined and dined him. The full-court press was on and, for the first time since high school, Jordan was an object of desire.

Meanwhile, the Clippers' meeting didn't include a single player. Griffin, of course, was in constant touch with his confidant, but Paul was off in the Bahamas with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. Paul made only half-hearted attempts to reach out to Jordan late in the process, according to sources close to the situation. At a certain point, the balance of affection tipped, and there weren't enough dinners at Katsuya or testimonials to Jordan about how much he'd flourished under Rivers' development to keep Jordan in Los Angeles.

Jordan's departure represents a cruel irony for Rivers. Had he not been so successful at emboldening Jordan as an all-world defender, he might not have had to fight as hard to keep him.

Last season, DeAndre received 563 passes from CP3, and was 114/142 from the field when Paul gave him the ball (80.3%). (twitter.com)

I think this is a situation where it's a combination of factors and he just feels he will be happier in Dallas. I think it's a losing proposition because their team is aging in areas and deficient in others, and on the flipside it totally fucks the Clippers. However, I do think Jordan can average 15-20 ppg next year in an expanded role and be even better on defense.

The Clippers now have to transform their team into a small-ball squad, play with four guards and that type of shit.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

If Paul is the leader than his job is to get everyone playing at their best. If handing out high-fives like their going out of style helps Deandre, then Paul ought to learn to open up and meet his teammates where they are.

Paul is a great player and a brilliant point guard, but he needs another player to kind of butt heads with to keep him in check.

'Cause this ego-stroking and wining and dining that the Mavs gave him only lasts through their courtship. And the ego stroking is the only advantage they have over the Clippers. L.A. offers him a better chance of winning and more money. Sometime in May, DeAndre is going to whether if dap from an ancient Dirk, a vague "increased" offensive role (which as noted above, is going to be kind of shaky without Paul) and a fifth or sixth seed was worth it.

Why would he *not* high five DJ? Why wouldn't he go out of the way during the season to let DJ know how important he is to this team? The "I'm on vacation" shit wouldn't be an issue if DJ felt the team's leader fully appreciated him. Instead, it became icing on the cake.

DJ 100% has a point. If he felt the Clippers didn't fully appreciate his effort, his improvement, and his incredibly important role this season... and the Clippers did nothing to alleviate those feelings (and it's a stone-cold lock that they knew he felt that way)?

Like, it may be petty to want high fives, but it's ten times as petty to continually snub a guy for high fives. Especially when DJ was a *huge* part of the Clippers' success this year. You can't blame a guy for leaving if he believes his effort will be more appreciated elsewhere.

And since Cuban is a guy who's proven he's willing to spend time and again to try to contend annually, I don't blame DJ for thinking his odds of winning over there aren't really much worse than they are with the Clips. Cuban can point to Finals runs and a ring. The Clippers can't.

And without DJ, they're going to have one hell of a time trying to make a WCF run this year.

And none of them could have to do with how Paul feels about him personally.

And even if he was snubbing him for high fives (seriously p, type this repeatedly is getting increasingly ludicrous), if Paul is consistently getting him the ball, which the stats reflect, isn't that a much better indicator that Paul respects him and his game? Paul is good part of the reason DeAndre is such a sought after free agent. He needs Paul to cut short his vacation to demonstrate to really prove how much he loves him?

And as for the Clippers "appreciating" his effort, in the words of the God Draper, that's what the money is for. And the Clippers were going to be able to offer him the most of it.

The Mavs may talk a big game now, but they're still a first round exit team with DeAndre. For all the talk of what Cuban will do is willing to spend, it hasn't produced much since 2010.

With the Clippers, DeAndre has a shot of being in the WCF. On the Mavs, he's on a team that MAY be as good as the Clippers without him. I guess if that's what gets him going...

How did DJ win?

He took LESS money, leaving a team that was an injury away from getting to the WC Finals to go to a team that won't make the playoffs. To a team that doesn't even have the pieces to trade for a PG that can get him the easy shots that transformed him from a defensive role player to shockingly a max player.

He should pray to Cliff Paul every night for his max contract...Other than that, all I see is a delusional dude (DJ) who didn't like being yelled at...Boo Hoo....

"RE: A: this prolly ain't his last contract "

If u think he's getting another blockbuster contract playing with a marginal PG u crazy...

U only get a max deal of that level from ANOTHER team willing to make a desperate move OR from a team like a ring-or bust team like Cleveland that understand that a player like Tristan Thompson (who just a year ago would be laughed at for even thinking about a max deal) must get over paid because he's their main rebounding muscle...But there's a reason you don't see Tristan talking about I DON'T WANT TO BE THE THIRD GUY....

Because he's not delusional like DJ....It's the same reason Tyson Chandler has never thought such nonsense....He knows who he is. DJ doesn't...

Dallas is a year away from rebuilding....DJ thinks they are going to win building a team around HIM...lol

I did a spit take on that thought....

Given that 30 years is a full career, the "Full Professor"
point is moot, because they don't let you stay 30 years unless
you're doing extremely well at your job.

So I appreciate the compliment.

You do sound a little bit mad, though. I'm here for you.

In response to Reply # 11

Yes it was a narrative that crescendoed in volume but I don't buy it entirely. I don't see anyone talking about how tight he was with Griffin or how much Doc believed in him, in fact that narrative is starting to twist against Doc somehow now that it's convenient. The ownership also pitched the fuck out of him at these meetings that he *would* be on every program cover, promo, etc, that they would promote the team as a three-headed monster.

Knowing DJ a little (and I stress a little), I think he is just a guy looking for the right situation personally and furthermore I think he didn't see the Clippers as a *real* contender in their own right. He is right. They will never win a championship with Chris Paul. I don't say that as an indictment of Paul, merely as a realistic assessment of their situation as a whole.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Lots of factors at play here but in the end he left a good team for an above-average one so he must have been serious about it. It's pointless because the Mavs won't with him and the Clippers won't win without him.

if u have an anti-CP3 agenda/over-thinking this move/or u happen to be a DJ STAN, then I can see how u could mistake DJ bolting for the Mavs as a sensible move....

But I'm sorry....Ain't nothing sensible about this move...

All of the great players, whether they won championships or not are pretty much assholes...But there's a difference between being an asshole vs. letting your assholia have an detrimental effect on team chemistry and team success.....The Clippers, with CP3 freezing out hi-fives and making DJ cry, was a injury away from making the Western Conference Finals...

I see people trying to compare DJ bolting to the Mavs to Dwight bolting the Lakers....That's pretty much ridiculous. Kobe chased away a quality big man (D Howard, who actually led his OWN team to a Finals. He left to go to Houston, which proved to be a better situation) when he was well past his prime years....

DJ bolted a playoff team for a lesser team because he wanted to get his ego stroked....

DJ took less money because he wanted to get his ego stroked....

DJ bolted the Clippers despite the fact that much of his success depended on CP3's ability to get him some of the easiest baskets known to man....

Yeah, of course it hurts the Clips....DJ was their defensive anchor...Dude set nasty screens and allowed teammates to have space off because he was a rebounding threat....

But DJ is delusional if he thinks he is going to go beyond being a damn good defensive/rebounding talent without talented guard play...

Basically DJ took less money and went to a shakier situation with no real PG or combo guard because he got his feeling hurt....

Silly nigga....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Both guys went to Texas over California, figuring tax benefits, the cost of property and their longevity as stars would offset that fifth year their current team could offer. Both were concerned about their role, particularly in the offense and as leaders. The abrasiveness of their respective team leaders aside, there are similarities there.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

No...it doesn't....At all...

Howard made the sensible move....He found himself on a combustible team with a delusional, aging superstar (Kobe) who treated his teammates like the help and questioned his star big man's toughness while he was playing with a very serious injury and a one-track coach who made Pau look like he was headed to the scrap heap because he was forcing his best post player to shoot 3's....

Howard left the Lakers to go the BETTER team (Rockets)....Straight no chaser....

Nah man....I don't care how much screaming CP3 was doing in practice....U don't leave a superior team for a lesser squad whose "best" player (Dirk) should be coming off the bench at this point in his career, has no MVP caliber talent AND for less money....

That's never been done....Ever....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Now, going to be a better ORGANIZATION is, but I didn't bother mentioning that because the roster disparity kind of cancels that out. Kind of.

I get the threshold matter of contender vs non-contender but you're making it out like he signed with the Sixers or something. The team he went to is still a playoff team and they are a good organization that always tries to compete.

Deandre can be an immature, delusional fool who didn't realize how good he had it.

AND

CPPlea can be a petty, arrogant jerk who let his feelings get in the way of a fact: he needed Deandre to resign, either to play with him or to be traded for guys who would. Instead, his ass is in the Bahamas.

Oh, and he still hasn't gotten out of the second round.

Name a player that left a better situation for a lesser team....And for less money....

U can't....

And all this Chris Paul hasn't gotten out of the 2nd round stuff?

Ask yourself this: Who was the last PG that was the best player on his team that led his squad to a championship? The last PG I remember doing that was Zeke....It rarely happens for a reason....

If we allowed ourselves to have an honest discussion about Chris Paul we would come to the conclusion that 1) being a PG in a game of trees and 2) being in the West is probably the main reasons he's never been out of the 2nd round...

Hell, even in the weak ass East it's hard for a PG to be the best player on his team AND lead them to a ring (see D. Rose)...

Just saying...

Clearly your definition of better differs from his. He wants a bigger role and fewer assholes.

Nash got out of the second round. Curry too.

DJ didn't like being yelled at...Mike yelled...Magic yelled...Hell, even players that didn't get a ring were assholes on and off the court (Barkley, Stockton...ect)

DJ went for mediocrity and less pressure...and less money....

Billups was not viewed as the best player on the Pistons team....That team was viewed as equals....Rip was at times the star....Billups was at times the star...Ben Wallace was at times the star....Nah man....I'm talking about THE BEST player....Not someone who got hot and won Finals MVP...Remember, K. Leonard won a Finals MVP too....And he wasn't his team's best player...

Did Nash win a ring? And Curry? I will def give u, dude...Young Spice bucked the trend...But it's a rarity....

Even an all time talent like Jason Kidd, who went to a Finals, couldn't get his team over the hump...He didn't win until he deferred to Dirk.....When your PG is the best player on the team it rarely doesn't translate to rings unless your name is Magic, Zeke, and Curry....

Bottom line....If CP3 never got out of the second round in the East then the hate would be understandable....But in THIS version of the West, which is now more competitive 1 through 8 than Magic's era...Hell even tougher than Nash-Suns era...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Nah...hear me out...

It's less pressure because Dallas is not in a WIN NOW situation like the Clippers...

Dirk is basically out the front door....HE has HIS ring...After next season, this will be a rebuilding effort with DJ getting his numbers...What kind of pressure will DJ be under? Hell, he won't even be making the playoffs in the West....

But DJ will get his empty numbers and less money until Dallas decides to trade him to another team who wants a rim protector and not a dude who thinks he should get more touches than more talented teammates....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Yes he was traded but he could have stayed in OKC for sure.

He got *slightly* more money so it doesn't quite satisfy your conditions, but yes we have seen players unhappy with their role and their surroundings.

And why are we talking about the Clippers like the 67 Sixers? They are one of a handful of second-tier teams in the West.

>and was a worse team last season. Not even a playoff team

1. The Clippers were a Chris Paul injury away from going to the WC Finals....LMA viewed Portland as a stuck-in-motion situation....He was Portland's go-to guy there since he came into the league....DJ is an elite rim protector who struggles to make FT's....That's about it...

2. LMA actually dominated a playoff series and was responsible for his team pulling off an upset against the Rockets....DJ played great D, but got most of his points on lobs and record-breaking foul shot attempts because he's a horrific FT shooter....

3. No one ever viewed Portland as being on the verge of a championship...They were essentially running in place, going into their own rebuilding plan after trading away Batum and letting Matthews walk....The Clippers were viewed as a contending caliber team with a coach who has won a ring...

Basically, this is not simply about leaving a good team for a lesser team. It's about a one-dimensional center leaving a team many thought was gunning for a championship for a team whose best player is about to file for social security because as (DJ) wants to get more shots without the pressure of being taken seriously on a very mediocre team....

The better debate you should be making is why would LMA reportedly pick Phoenix (still waiting for dude's decision) over the Spurs....?

I got some answers to that, too....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I chalk that up to 1) the greatness of the Spurs and 2) Chris Paul, barely over 6 ft., being the toughest player on that Clippers squad, which is asking for trouble....

NBA history says it's a rarity to see point guards being the best player on their team and not 6'9 win rings (on one hand I count Zeke and Curry)....

That about it...

No...I'm talking about championships Billy....I'm talking about the law of averages of PG's who r deemed the BEST player on their team rarely winning it all....Over the last 20 plus years we've seen Zeke and Curry holding up a trophy....That's it...

Whether a player gets pass the 2nd round is moot...Especially in the West when teams 1-8 are dangerous...

If CP3 was in the weak ass East and never been past the 2nd round I could see your point...Your agenda would make more sense....

But in the West? Nah....That shit is a blood bath....

Stop trying to move goalposts.

That is what everybody is talking about. And this is pretty simple.

You bringing up a lot of irrelevant shit for no apparent reason.

Since then many pgs have led their team past the 2nd round.

I have no idea what you're actually arguing.

His height has nothing to do with it.

What his height is okay all the way up until the 2nd round? That's what it is?

Good grief.

On top of that, he has Blake, he had DeAndre, and he has Doc. All these excuses and smokescreens.

Let's not act like the Clippers didn't burn out and nut up in them 'offs, and no DJ was not the one disappearing. They were short on bigs and probably maximized what they could do during the regular season last year.

That Game 7 against San Antonio--and what a game it was--remains their "NBA title." Best thing they have ever accomplished, not just with this group but as a franchise in three different cities.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

seen OKC's "big 3" at 100% in a while and they still have to fill out the roster around those guys.

The Spurs are the off-season paper champs but they still have to actually take the court and Duncan has to play like he's not turning 40 before the playoffs start.

... for this to be an L for CP3.

I'm talking prime Shaq since we on some agenda shit. Mark Cuban said:

"We see him as “Shaq-like” but never having been given the opportunity," Cuban told the radio show. "We told him if he came to the Mavs, he would be a focal point. He would grow into being a franchise player."

LOL at grow into a franchise player making $20 mill a year. How long does this process take?

Can the Mavs beat the Spurs, right today, as presently constructed?

I don't think that's happening here...

Everybody knows DJ leaving the Clips HURTS that team like a mufucker....They will no longer be viewed as contenders without his defensive presence....

But people can come to this^^^ conclusion while at the same time laugh at DJ taking less money, bolting a contending team because he wasn't getting hi-fives and then going to a team on the decline because he thinks he can be a go-to option on offense...

God bless him.

136. "did you read the OP?"
In response to Reply # 135

yes, the high five thing happened

that wouldn't bother you?

which is but a symptom of a larger issue

I didn't read go-to option, focal point, etc...

what I read was 'expanded role' on offense

and as previously replied, his run of 20/20s w/o Blake warrants that role

but to cut out the semantics

what should be your takeaway from the OP

"Optics aside, the biggest issue for Jordan was that, despite the leaps and bounds he made to be named first team all-defense, the Clippers always treated him like the player he was when he arrived in the NBA, and never like the player he'd become."

all BS aside, for a dude to work his way up from a 2nd round pick

to where DJ is today

yeah, I would expect the LAC to make him a priority this FA season

that's not what happened

so he bounced

quite simple.

the rest of the BS in this post will play itself out

and get upped one way or the other

I think I've made my CP65andCounting stance quite clear

so you know what side I'm on.

just to not contend anyway

fam, it's July

and their roster isn't fully constructed yet

but you're convinced they'll be worse than the LAC

I think you're illustrating DJ's point for him

by assuming the LAC's are a playoff team w/o him

and disregarding his contribution

I can't see how this could possibly turn out bad for you.

If I wanted a more serious chance at winning a ring I would suck it up. My thing is not DJ leaving....My thing is him leaving the Clippers thinking Dallas is a better situation because he will get hi-fives....lol

Jordan, even before the rings, talked so much shit about Pippen that it wasn't even funny. DJ wanted his ego stroked....Cool. But dude doesn't seem to understand who he is as a player....

He's a bit delusional, no?

and yet you're reiterating the high 5 thing

that's not the major issue, but you keep typing it

I tried to point you to the real story

which was him feeling that he wasn't being treated properly

based on his performance

he worked his way from the 35th overall pick

to a DPOTY candidate

you're going to call that ego?

he's only been getting 6FGAs for the last 3 years

and based on watching the games, those are all lobs on pick and rolls

or put back ORBs

who knows what his idea of an 'expanded' role in the offense is

but is it really an ego stroke to ask for a set or 2?

they run 0 plays for him

and again

based on the 20/20s he put up w/o Blake, there is obviously more he can contribute when given the opportunity

it's funny too, that people keep typing replies

about the LAC being contenders or something

if he stayed

but you're calling him delusional

like he can't walk to any other number of teams

and be a potential 2nd round exit...AGAIN!

IT'S THE CLIPPERS MAN!

I keep bringing it up because it's basically another way for DJ to say: CHRIS PAUL IS AN ASSHOLE....HE TREATED ME LIKE SHIT....I WANT OUT....

And what I'm saying is most great players r assholes....Most great players treat their lesser teammates like shit....Even Magic, the most smiling Negro of all time, treated his teammates like shit in practice....But on the real, I would be cool with DJ wanting out if he just had personal beef with a fellow player. His third option complaint though sounds fucking laughable....lol

>I tried to point you to the real story
>
>which was him feeling that he wasn't being treated properly

And I'm calling bullshit....DJ at times proved to be even a bigger liability in the 4th Q....They routinely sat him down because he made Howard look like Mark Price at the FT line....

The Clippers used DJ about as well as they could.

In fact, DJ became a better player under Doc....He posted career highs with Paul throwing him the ball....On what planet does a lob and catch center have the right to say the reason why he left a contending team is because he got tired of being the 3rd wheel on a team with a 1st team caliber PG and a PF who was posting triple doubles in his sleep in the playoffs....????

I would have more respect for DJ to just come out and say he bolted the Clippers because he felt like he didn't get the respect he craved from Paul, not the Clippers as an organization....

Those 20/20's DJ was shockingly getting didn't come out of thin air....Those POINTS came about because of one person: Chris Paul....

DJ will find this out very fast....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

his value to a team might very well never be as high as what it was to last year's clippers. it's on him to prove he can maintain his level of defense without doc and offense without CPPlea. i personally don't think he will ever have a season for the rest of his career as good as 14-15.

I think it's possible dude will beast out and average 20+ points and 15+ rebounds and 2+ blocks next year or in the future, but that Dallas team is going to be putrid trash next year. I have the feeling DeAndre only cares about one of the conditions mentioned in the prior sentence. Doesn't seem like dude cares about what value he can bring to a team and only wants to do him based on that Shaq-like statement Cuban said after the agreement.

I'm amazed Cuban thinks he can attract free agents in the future to Dallas with a team of DeAndre Jordan as the focal point, especially as tough as the West is at the moment.

Because the Mavericks at the moment don't have a top tier point guard? Would be remarkable if DeAndre has so much ego to make this short sighted move and doesn't have serviceable enough footwork to create his own shot to guarantee getting $20 mil per.

I expect them to make the playoffs. Deandre at the rim can make up for a lot of bad defense elsewhere, and the offense would be pretty great even with me running the point.

Besides, his whole thing was getting offensive opportunities to cubes talking like he's the next shaq. So to expect him to be able to create his own shot next year isnt asking too much.

i'm in no way staking my wagon to either agenda. i'm simply stating facts for the posters up near the top of this post who are shitting on DJ.

DJ is a young, improving player.

CP3 is an older, still good but soon to be waning player.

when I say the Clips and CP3 lost? they DID lose because the Clips got worse which makes CP3's job harder...and he had a direct hand in that. in addition, it's a bad look for CP3's reputation (i'm sure he doesn't care but some people do) if he's freezing out players and can't even bother to stop vacation for a day to try to woo an important free agent.

The point is that Dandre Jordan is not an offensive player,

Basically. People r mixing apples with grenades....

DJ has the right to do whatever he wants....Free country....I've just never heard of any NBA player taking less money AND going to a shittier situation because he was scared of his barely 6 foot PG...

Dallas is a class organization....But much of their rebirth hinged on Dirk's greatness....Hey...Maybe DJ will shock the world and become an offensive 1st/MVP caliber option much in the way Dwight did during his days with Orlando...

But using my common sense, I see a gifted defensive BIG who has deluded himself into thinking he's better than what what he really is....

I mean point blank.

He didn't want to deal with dude anymore.

And the Mavs showed him love.

Not sure I agree with it. (I don't even care really cuz I don't care about the Clipps, but if it was a team I cared for, I would care), but you can't really fault him for it.

I think Bomani said it best when he was talking about, not being sure how much he could take getting yelled at by a dude a foot shorter than him, plus the fact you cannot beat the dude up, cuz you'll get in trouble or looked at like the villain.

I mean all that passive agressive stuff or aggressive agressive stuff just wore on DeAndre.

I don't believe DJ is going any-damned-where at all.

He's gonna high five DJ into submission. May even invite him to vacay with him and Melo over the Labor Day weekend.

This is kind of a huge deal if he backs out...I feel like it's Boozer-esque, except we know both sides and KNOW DJ committed.

This is pretty bad.

It's not a big deal...Like u said, Boozer did it (he even shook the owners hand on some gentleman's agreement shit and then ran to the Jazz). Hedo Turk was even more out of bounds (dude was at the venue to announce he was signing to Portland and right then and there he backed out....J Kidd told the Mavs (before coming back) that he was going to sign up with them and backed out too years ago....

This is light compared to those other examples....

Oh yeah...Doc/Lac will easily survive this (IF DJ comes back). The person that comes out looking really shady is DeAndre.....

That I think if it happens (and maybe even if it doent)

It leads to a rule change around the Moratorium period.
Thanks to this the FA period will start later. They NBA will just wait til the budgets are balanced and new alary cap is set (which is why the moratorium exists now) and wait til its done--which is how it shouldve been in the first place, but something like this has never happened with a player this high profile.

Turkoglu and Kidd, yes - those were bad - but also they weren't for max deals as (potentially) franchise players. I think everyone could understand Boozer's predicament, and it was a shady deal to begin with, but this is something else altogether.

This isn't unprecedented. Toronto snagged Hedo after he'd agreed to terms with the Blazers. As long as you come off the money, agents couldn't give two shits, and GMs who rule out avenues to make their team better don't last very long.

The only lasting ramification will be the Clipper an Mavs never ever doing a deal. Other than that, this will all be forgotten by November.

"Jordan, who is working out in Houston, began having doubts about leaving nearly $30 million on the table for a team that is not as good as the Clippers. Per league rules, only the Clippers have the ability to give Jordan a five-year deal that would be worth the maximum salary of approximately $110 million combined. The communication with the Clippers and Jordan never ceased, and it's clear now that he's seriously considering a return."---USA Today

It's just delaying guaranteed money.

The situation is what it is, but Dwight leaving $20 mil on the table isn't exactly accurate - he just took a shorter deal is all. He'll get that money back.

David West left money on the table.

Deandre will get that money.

>Deandre will get that money.

But this^^^^is the rub.....Why r we quick to say he was going to "get that money" as a Maverick?

In other words, DJ's overall success in any re-up deal may be connected to success beyond being a rebounding leader (making an all-star team, being All NBA 1st or 2nd team)...I think DJ realizes that he will never hit his ceiling without a good-great PG to feed him the ball or showing his true worth on a contending team....

I believe DJ is more likely to make an all-star team (and get even more money in the long run) as a Clipper than he would playing for Dallas and missing the playoffs....

Even in future terms, not even counting the money on the table, re-signing with the Clippers is just the more intelligent thing to do...

This was not Doc Rivers running this, it was the owner...who is one of the greatest closers in the history of capitalism:

Who do you think got them to that house? Muhfuckas flew on Ballmer's jet. Who you think told them to put the chair to block the front door? That was NOT Doc...now once it got to DJ talking about his feelings and CP3 sitting there acting like he cared...that was Doc....but the orchestrator of this whole thing was Ballmer.

I don't think it matters if Steve B. or Doc was running the show....I think the point O_E is making is people in this very thread saw an opening to fry CP3 on some SEE, HE ON THAT KOBE BULLSHIT TOO....!!!!...HE'S NOT A REAL LEADER!!!!! And it blew up in their face....

When really, we are dealing with a mental midget (DJ) who simply needed to be told he was CP3's Thunder Buddy.....

Ya dig?

That's just insulting, Jordan is a grown ass man. People are in here calling him a child and a mental midget and all this other stuff. That's demeaning if not bigoted. If he had concerns about his standing with Paul then why the fuck wasn't Paul at the first meeting? That's an oversight not only on Paul's part but on the organization's part as well. The Clippers have the ultimate responsibility to put together the best possible presentation and Paul's absence undermined that. They screwed that up but he also prioritized a vacay ahead of it. Luckily the whole thing got salvaged.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

lol...bigoted....I'm a black man from the South Side of the Chi....Mental Midgets know NO color....DJ is indeed a mental midget...But he's the Clippers' mental midget.....

Again...mental midget.....

DJ put up career stats....He had some of his best numbers in the playoffs....And many observers have pointed to Doc with getting him focused and understanding his true talent....But his blossoming career has A LOT to do with Chris Paul....

DJ wanted someone to blow in his ear and tell him he was good....I get it. But when you r in a situation where u r playing for a contending team and being fed easy baskets by arguably the best PG in the league you would think that would be good enough....

But hey, DJ sensitive as all hell I guess....Good for him though. He is back on a contending team. Hopefully he now understands his role and doesn't become delusional again about being a franchise player....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

Then again anything with the word "round" in front of it may make him slightly nervous.

Look man I love Chris Paul and want to see him prosper. Everyone knows I fuck with DJ as the sole owner of his stock. I am glad this worked out. I think it's petty to point fingers now, but if we are trying to pump shit up that isn't there I have to pull cards.

is it fair to say DeAndre Jordan will get the crux of the blame and scapegoating when the Clippers fall next year?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I mean if Jordan is out there putting up 20/20 games he ain't gonna be fried, but if his play is tepid, oh yes, he will be fried. Then again, whatever he does would be better than a Blake/Big Baby/No One frontcourt.

He is the third wheel with the Clippers and thus faces third wheel attention. Further, no one honestly gives a shit about the Clippers....if they win, great, but if they lose, "same ole Clippers" or something to that extent.
