I'd love to see kobe have a competitive squad for his last go round. I'd also like to see how much he'd be willing to defer to LMA as well.

If LMA is about winning, he goes to San An (him and kawhi for 4+ years?? sheeeeit)
If he wants the life, he goes to LA.
If he wants to lose with other superstars...houston

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

That's what I really want too. If we could land LaMarcus and put somebody like a Tyson Chandler or a Robin Lopez next to him, sign a decent wing defender like Aminu, maybe get really crazy and roll the dice with Rondo? How many games would it take to have a Sprewell-PJ situation with Rondo and Byron?

control the offense and stat pad to 12+ assists a game so he can get a long term deal..i don't think that happens in LA

I could see Tyson with the lakers but I think the clips and dallas wind up swapping centers.

Where does he go? Who pays him 13 million+ or a max that he wants. Who needs a starting pg. Sacramento seems the only fit now but with all their issues I can't see that being their move.

Will rondo have to take a huge paycut and short term deal and prove himself again.? Would he ever go somewhere to be a backup to a top pg for a year?

Nope, not until he's 35+

I really thought he was going to Sac, but it seems to be a cluster fuck out there with the Karl vs. Cuz....Don't know if adding a surly dude like Rondo would help matters....He could still be on deck for the Lakers, but that is only if Mitch and them include D'Angelo Russell in a trade to get Boogie...

Which is why I can see him going to a struggling team that REALLY needs a PG...With Ty Lawson about to be shipped off (the rumor is Sac Town), I can see Denver going after Rondo....

That would be interesting if that happens, Tyson on Clips and DJ on the Mavs?

I don't think LaMarcus is taking a team anywhere by himself but he can score and he's a nice piece and if we get some other pieces to going along with him perhaps we can get back to respectability.

Honestly the Lakers would be hard pressed to put together a better team than he had in Portland and he never did shit there.

I'm sure Morey would love him since Aldridge's mid-range jumper game is the stuff stats guys like him cream themselves over. That would be an insane team though.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

than the Spurs can. The Spurs would have some contracts to move around to clear space for him.

We can just sign him basically..and ask his help and feedback in getting another front line player to fulfill his desire to play alongside an inside Center..

over any frontcourt player we had last year but its not like he was going to to take us back to the promise land.

He's a jumpshooting big that only made it out of the first round once in nine seasons in Portland and he had some decent talent around him up there.

At this point...

Lillard >>> TP
Matthews >>> Green

now Leonard >>> Batum, but is it THAT much of a difference to make the Spurs "NASTY"?

I think the Spurs obviously have the inside track, trading Splitter is still a big indicator. If not I imagine they can get David West to make their team even older.

This means Aldridge is now the starting center, correct? He's a capable enough rebounder, but it'll be interesting to see how he handles big men that try to take him on the low post now. Fortunately, there aren't too many big men capable to this feat, but his role does change from the one he had in Portland. Him and Kawhi holding the keys to the Spurs for the future should be fun.

It's more of an issue on what they do defensively. But they can each guard each position. But i'd guess duncan will guard the banger more often and Aldridge the mobile bigs.

LaMarcus was a GREAT professional in Portland. He gave enough of his career to the Trailblazers, there was no good reason to stay in Portland with this window of opportunity in front of him.

And look -- I remember all the Portland fans that crapped on him for years, then begrudgingly came around to admitting he's the best player on the team. Half the guys I've talked to around free agency say, "well, I won't really miss him. we were never going to be a contender with him."

Well yeah -- Portland was never going to be a contender because it's fucking Portland, but now instead of being an entertaining team that could hang with anyone in the league on any given night, it's back to sub-40 win seasons and over-hyping every young guy that has a decent night. If there's a soul in Portland trying to talk themselves into Lillard being better than Aldridge, say a prayer for them. Next season is going to be a long one for those sorts of delusions.

I don't think there is a huge gap between the 2

and I definitely wouldn't expect Dame to trend down

so I don't think...

"Lillard being better than Aldridge"

...is as far fetched a concept as you want it to sound

especially considering his buzzer beater vs HOU is their only playoff W during LA's tenure

I have more questions about what's going on personally between the staff and/or players on that team

since everybody jumped ship in one off season ala Harbaugh/49ers

Lillard is a good player who earned the paycheck he just got. But he's nowhere NEAR as good a player as LaMarcus Aldridge. Age got nothing to do with it, it's about being a two-way player that forces defenses to gameplan for him alone.

lost me

I have no idea how you got to Steve Kerr TBH

and age has everything to do with it

I remember LA struggling through injuries the past 2 playoffs

Dame's already at 20ppg

and I would expect him to improve defensively over the next 6 years

+ more than a couple all-star games in that time

+ ROY

so if he gets 20ppg, makes the all-star game, etc...(I'll hold off on playoffs until I see a roster, but this is LA's resume before Dame BTW)

w/o LA and defenses gameplanning for Dame

will you accept your L?

yeah, I stand by statement

Lillard being better isn't as far fetched as you want it to be.

Steve Kerr though

70. "Lillard is a very good player."
In response to Reply # 65

LMA should've been All-NBA First Team last year, and anchors any team on offense and defense.

Anyone who thinks Lillard was in the running for best player on the team didn't watch the games.

71. "Who should LMA have displaced? Gasol?"
In response to Reply # 70

Grizz were better than the Blazers, Gasol is a far superior defender, and though he's not anywhere near the one-on-one player LMA is, the Grizz also ran the offense through him in the high post to extract blood from the stone that is the Grizzlies' offense. I thought LMA fit fine on the second team.

And if you were trying to say he should displace anyone else, I just flatly disagree.

as in

6 seasons from now Dame could be better than LA.

"If there's a soul in Portland trying to talk themselves into Lillard being better than Aldridge, say a prayer for them. Next season is going to be a long one for those sorts of delusions."

simply pointing out this is not some far fetched idea

especially when you compare where they are today in their careers

IMO, both are top 5 players at their positions

project that over 6 more seasons for Dame = >>>

just sayin', in 2020, Dame could be better than LA today.

In response to Reply # 72

I'd take Kyrie and Wall over him, and those are the fringe contenders. CP, Curry, and Russ are obviously better. Splitting hairs, though, since I'd probably put Dame sixth or seventh.

Russy
Steph
Rie
Dame

I conceded to CP65andCounting being better than Wall with a broken hand

but yeah, splitting hairs for that 5th spot either way

my prediction -- Damian is going to hover around 40% FG and his defense is going to look worse than ever without Robin Lopez and LaMarcus Aldridge watching his back. Also, his fairly mechanical playmaking is going to look even more lackluster when surrounded by "threats" like Al-Fariq Aminu, Meyers Leonard, Allen Crabbe, et. al.

Will Damian be better than LaMarcus in 2020? Yeah, LaMarcus will probably be retired. That's the ONLY reason.

Lillard transforming from an elite shooter / competitor to a destructive two-way player, given what we've seen over three seasons so far, would be one of the most dramatic transformations I've ever seen. I think there's a better chance that LaMarcus achieves more in his next few seasons with the Spurs than Damian and the Trailblazers ever do together...

you're intentionally missing the point

comparing players in their 9th season

not in 2020

I don't know whom you are mad at, or why

but it's very telling in some of these posts

to see the collateral damage when FAs decide to leave

Dame is not that good (c) nobody before LA left.

as I said

his resume isn't that far off from LA's TODAY

+ give him 6 more seasons

they will obviously be rebuilding now that everyone except Dame has left

but there's plenty of time over the next 6 seasons for POR to make it to the 2nd round again.

glad you put some metrics on your statement though

so you've got his FG%, AST and defensive ratings plummeting

noted.

BTW, I think Meyers can do some things with those minutes

"destructive two-way player"

is there a metric that validates this

you're the first person I've heard tout LA's defense

there was about a month last year when he was terrifying, when he was torching the Spurs on ESPN and curb-stomping the Lakers just cuz he could. But then he seemed to get in his head over the All-Star stuff and he quietly was the 3rd best Blazer (after LA + Wes) for most of the games around the All-Star break and pre-Wesley's injury.

So I'll be honest, there was a moment where I said, "woah -- it's happening" with Lillard. But that moment was 2-3 weeks long, and suddenly seemed more like a flash in the pan than a real trend as the season wore on. And quietly all through that LA was consistent as hell and Wes was doing the real dirty work on the defensive end.

And Blazers fans, like Blazers fans do, have been hyping the hell out of Dame, but I'm telling you, there's some holes in his game that have been there since his rookie season that if left unaddressed will keep him from EVER being a top 10 player, or even the best player at his position, like LaMarcus can make some claim to these days.

I always thought Stotts didn't use his strengths. I don't see Pop allowing him to just hoast up 17ft jumpers/ fade aways as his primary weapon.

He made the right choice as far as who to sign with. His numbers...especially fg% should sky rocket.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
