"Just so I'm clear: Coach Bud gets no criticism, right? "

He got all the credit for the 60-win team, and
excellent job

But he gets no criticism, at all, for his team being
swept by Lebron, 1/2 Kyrie and a bag of dicks?

Anyone have anything to say about his IQ?

Or are we gonna argue that a guy who coached 4 All Stars
"Didn't have the talent"

I just want to be brought up to speed, so that I'm clear
as to how we do things around here

They won a lot of games by trying real hard every single game in the regular season. Against a team where they either A. Weren't trying harder than and B. Were about equal talent all included, we saw how great they were.

All that said, when they win 50 games next year I wanna see Budz get some heat for it. You can't get swept and then drop that many, which they will.

cleveland made good adjustments and executed them. made them play way more one on one.

same thing happened to the grizz in the middle of their series against the warriors. grizz made some great tweaks, golden state took them out of them and they had no answer.

in the end i think the personnel of both memphis and atlanta were limited and they ran into more versatile teams that were also at least a little more talented.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

i wouldnt be surprised if something similar happened to golden state. not as bad since they have more talent.
but brons finals experience alone
might get his team to play better than gs
under that increased pressure.

psychologically its a big leap to go from a 1st/2nd round team to a chip.
the top dogs on gs are all in foreign territory.

crazy rotations, Milsap picking up Lebron at half court, no apparent way to get a rebound all series. He definitely deserves his.

Maybe they were trying to cover the stink of the Cavs' start to the regular season or just trying to promote some Indiana Hoosiers type team ball narrative. I don't know. This was an undersized overachiever from the word go.

I do think the Hawks, Bud included, deserve to be fried, maybe less for their performance against the Cavs and more for how they played at times against Brooklyn and *definitely* against Washington. Overall, Bud did a good job this year but the playoffs left him stumped it seemed. Part of it was that his team was already having to play their playoff game during the year to be successful. That was an issue early on for, for example, Rick Carlisle and his Pistons. The difference was that Bud didn't have a lot of tweaks to make, the bench was nothing great and it got thinner as guys got hurt.

Still, this team had no business courting disaster against a positively average Nets team and the Wizards sans Wall for a significant portion of the series. In the end, Bud showed he had never been to the playoffs before. That he had no clue how to make effective adjustments at times was obfuscated somewhat by how his team was built (for 82, not 7), but yes, I do think he deserves some criticism, though certainly not a dismissal. As a whole, this team clearly overachieved this season.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

he looked like a rookie to me but again i would hedge that by saying that his roster had limitations, which only became more restrictive as time went on and guys got hurt.

Miss me with that bullshit, I know what their record and streak was, that doesn't explain that level of knob-slobbing IMO.

The Hawks looked TERRIBLE against Brooklyn, and if Wall was healthy would've been eliminated by Washington. And I'm willing to bet Washington at LEAST gets to a Game 5 against Cleveland

Bud should be getting ripped

blatt is also a first time NBA head coach and wittman is not exactly red auerbach. i wouldnt say he got outcoached by wittman but he was lucy to get by him. i do think he got outcoached by both blatt and the veteran hollins. some of it was definitely personnel, but it's a results-based business. i think he managed to avoid criticism based on the results of the first two rounds, but now that he lost, looking at it in sum, he didn't do as good of a job as most coaches in these playoffs.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Anyone have anything to say about his IQ?

ehh, my only complaint is that he didn't really seem to adapt in the CFs

felt like he shortened his rotation, and didn't really make any adjustments based on game play

i.e., Antic, Shroder and Scott took turns being buried on his bench

you've got to find a way to get a contribution from these guys

if you're gonna beat a Bron team.

"Didn't have the talent"

No, I'd say it's more of a first dance kinda thing

2nd year HC

takes ATL to #1 seed, 60Ws, banner, etc...

in 2 years

nah, I'm not gonna go in on the HC

yet

as I said in the game post

they need to come out next year and blow the league away like the Ws did

for me to take them seriously

otherwise, they'll continue to be the Hawks.

And how are they supposed to do that without a scorer like Curry or at least Klay?

granted, Teague and Korver aren't the splash brothers

but I also don't think they need to make changes to their starting 5

IMO

so I'd say they need to focus on improving their bench

as GS did.

i.e., I can't outright fault the HC for not reaching the finals this year

my overall sentiment IRT the Hawks is that they over achieved this year

but in the end, they're still the Hawks

they would have to destroy the league before my opinion would change on them still being the Hawks in the future.

if you want to say that's impossible, cool

we can just write them off now.

but I'm not about to fault a 2nd year HC for this season.
