"Offseason Transfer Chat/Thread"
Tue May-19-15 10:06 AM by BrooklynWHAT

all the leagues are over so lets get it popping.

who you want?
who you trying to ditch?

couple things already interesting so far.

- Depay on Man Utd is done.
- Sterling's going to end up at City or Arsenal (for his sake as a player i'd rather it be the latter)
- Petr Cech will be on the move (think he lands at Arse as well)
- De Gea's most likely gone to Madrid even though we're offering him stupid money.
- Bale is probably on the block at Madrid. I'd gladly have him at an appropriate price for his performances this year *trollface*
- Xavi's retiring to Qatar
- RM already signed Danilo a right back from Porto for 30m

my transfer wishlist
- Winger (done)
- Striker (i'd love to have Lacazette or Vietto. Benzema if RM is really stupid)
- CB (Hummels, Otamendi)
- 2 CM (so many choices. Gundogan seems nailed on for Carrick's successor. Veratti? Pogba? Rabiot? Schneiderlin?)
- RB (Carvajal, Clyne. Clyne seems nailed on.)
- 1 mega signing
- resign De Gea (if he leaves try Lloris)

Out: Falcao or RVP, Blackett, Valencia, send Januzaj on loan. Wouldn't be mad if Di Maria left either.

except to sell. tho, barca does supposedly have an agreement to sign rafa mujinca (16 year old) once the ban is done.

anyway, i want to re-sign dani alves (montoya clearly not trusted, so i'll accept it even though i don't get why that is). pedro deserves to get his chance to shine somewhere else, so i expect him to go. xavi's supposedly announcing his departure on thursday, so i want a big send-off for him and for him to come back as a coach soon. i hear gundogan's no longer an option, not sure we needed him, not sure i cared much either way.

with pedro going, though, i wonder who the back-up winger will be. but i think there are more than enough options in barca b.

all i really want is for real to overpay for unnecessary parts and get even more unbalanced. which is quite possible.

Clearly top 2 needs imo:
1) GK (Ospina is a good keeper, would be the perfect #2): Would love Cech.
2) Holding mid: We've all seen the impact Coquelin has had (still shocking it basically took a desperation move brought on by injuries for Wenger to realize just how important this position is for us, especially in how much freedom it allows our creative types). I'm really hoping for Schneiderlin.

The priority here is a bit more muddled:
3) LB: Gibbs has not improved and is still way too inconsistent, Monreal is a solid backup but he shouldn't be seeing huge minutes at LB.
4) Raheem mfin Sterling: Not simply because I love his game and he's one of the best youngsters, but further because our wings became clearly fatigued as the season wore on (esp Alexis). Also, can only imagine the level he would hit under Wenger, obviously one of the best talent developers in the league. I'd let Walcott walk and go full bore after Raheem.
5) Striker: Giroud has had a solid season and I love his vision plus hold-up play...but his weaknesses were on full display this past week when he was pinched down way too easily by Jones and Blind due to lack of pace and his finishing was lackluster on multiple occasions.
6) CB. Kosc is chugging along and Gabriel is a very good fill-in but at some point, Per has to be replaced.

Don't need him, assuming Ox and gnabry stay healthy, not to mention zalelem, provided he gets a chance to develop further on loan somewhere next yr

Imo, Sterling's talent level is in the next echelon and that's why I want him. The last guy I saw on that similar trajectory was Hazard and wanted him so badly, obviously we know what he has developed into.

If you turn out to be right I'll give you props for sure, but I just don't see it.

As for Walcott, let him show and prove his last yr. If he balls out, then ok, we have the wherewithal to afford him now, unless he plays well enough to the point he gets interest from Real...which we damn well know won't happen

I was praying we somehow got our hands on him...but the timing couldn't have been worse as we were under strict financial handcuff from financing Emirates. Obviously I hate dude is on Chelsea but Mourinho has done a really stellar job with his overall play (Oscar as well)...his defensive work-rate and willingness to play physical and ride tackles has increased exponentially.

I remember winning a level 1 tournament in FIFA with Lille against Real, Barcelona and Spain natl...cats were not ready for Eden lol.

Walcott, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Gnabry, Gelalem, and even Cazorla can play out wide. They'd have to sell at least two of them, or loan out 2.

I thought the same thing about when they bought Gervinho as well, but at least then the Ox wasn't really on the scene as much then.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

Sterling's agent is going full heel to force a move, but Liverpool tangoed with Suarez and still have some leverage with the remaining years on the contract, but it's looking grim.

Before all this, I'd have said we need a striker first and that has not changed. Origi will be coming, but we need someone who can score goals now. Not sure if they have the time to wait for him and Ibe.

I also wouldn't mind some defense. Lovren has been...not good, and I'd like to see Can in midfield.

Lowest priority, I guess, is keeper. Mignolet is okay, but when he's bad, he's awful.

The point at which a player feels like the org isn't looking out for him, that's the point of no return...especially for a young player like Raheem.

That being said...I'd personally let Theo move on (mainly due to the injury history) and go after Sterling. Obviously dude is ultra talented and could make a huge impact but I would love to see him reach his potential under the cultivation of Wenger.

L'equipe is relaying a report from Catalan sports rag Sport that there would be an agreement to the tune of 80 mil, with a loan to the Old Lady next year in order to work around the financial fair play rules. They're supposedly waiting til after the CL final to announce it.

Seems a little too convenient to be true, but if it is...they'd be unplayable.

especially after the big money "success" of two summers ago, i don't see spurs doing anything drastic. buy young, cross fingers and sell high later.

i think we need help/depth just about everywhere, but for different reasons. wingers/attackers to keep the load off kane ... maybe another striker as both ade and GOLdado should be gone. a proven pivot midfielder to go with bentaleb. mason isn't the answer, but he would be perfect coming off the bench and help all along the defensive line. only leicester, villa and newcastle have let in more goals this year and we're tied with burnley. just think if we didn't have lloris?

speaking of which, KEEP YOUR DIRTY MITTS OFF HIM! HE'S OURS! FOREVAH!

(no. he isn't. i just want to pretend.)

Looks like him going to Arsenal is heating back up tho, which makes much more sense.

With such a large roster with so many people who do not play, I would love to see a firesale of all the people that Poche simply won't play for whatever reason.

Other than that, hopefully some Levy bargain bin specials and a shotgun to fend off Lloris suitors.

which sucks. if soton weren't playing hardball with him, we'd have our midfielder.

we have plenty of deadwood to move. it will be (more) interesting to see who's going rather than who's coming.

if de gea goes to madrid, i think we're in trouble. LOTS of trouble.

actually, it is pretty ugly. though fans have been clamoring for the return of the red shorts.

from what i hear, it looks ugly on random people, but it might look nice on the field. still, barca's kits have been on a tradition of going fugly then classic then fugly. this year was pretty classic, so it was fugly's turn.

chelsea isnt interested.
arsene doesnt spend big on players close to 30.
not french or flashy enough name for psg. nobody else in ligue 1 would get him.

could maybe see a german team taking a shot on him. dortmund or wolfsburg. but if he moves it just seems like hes destined for italy.

The combination of pace, balance, feet, technique....some might even call it magisterial. My favorite touch was the one to setup his shot...sprinting, decelerates in the blink of an eye, perfect balance and touch with his left to cut inside, and then the accuracy.

Just unreal...I don't know how else it can be properly described.

That midfield would be ridiculous, but it wouldn't have a true defensive stopper. I know that Pirlo is generally a deep lying playmaker, but I don't know if he is ready for the physicality of MLS.

now skrtl is unhappy with what they are giving him. they saw how lovren played last year, right?

liverpool can't afford a skrtl-sized hole at center back. not sure why they are offering an appearance-based contract to a guy who is just 30 and doesn't have a history of injuries. did they not see his awesome headband goal???

but skrtl's the best guy they've got to play in the center back there. he's not young or a phenom, but he's good.

they had can playing out of position and getting abused at the end of the year, lovren an absolute ghost. moreno's fine, but is limited to playing outside. flanagan coming back should help. got manquillo on loan for another year, but he didn't really play much in the second half of the season.

so yeah, they need defensive help, but that's still going to be the case if they replace skrtel with a better, younger player.

Liverpool would be silly to let him leave with so many other defensive areas to shore up...firstly, Can needs to be moved to midfield and Moreno was a turnstile.

solid signing for future Dani Alves replacement. Almost ensures both alves and montoya leave, though, i bet. so...douglas and pedro and bartra are our RBs for the first half of the season, i bet.

Dani Alves signs 2 year contract renewal, Aleix Vidal in the wings to replace him, Douglas going on loan (supposedly) and this is likely adios to Montoya (maybe he'll wait till January so we have depth for the first half? or bartra can play RB).

and now Lucho is rumored to have signed a two year renewal, so that's put to bed before the election can begin. basically, the team is in a really good place and the election can focus on silly, overexpensive signings that will be awesome to dream about (POGBA!)

and sevilla might sign Havilovic on loan and give Suarez back. Hopefully some more B stars can get out on liga loans now that barca b got demoted (stupid coaching and too many stars out on loan to survive).

sounds like he's not the pure striker that liverpool need, but if his work rate is as impressive as it sounds and he can create, i'll be happy. perhaps he and coutinho can work some brazilian magic together.

it would seem like with FSG spending this much on him a deal moving sterling won't be far behind. but stranger things have happened. i wouldn't be surprised if they stick with their hardball ways either, and use sterling to get liverpool back into european competition before selling him next summer.

Medical next week.

If true, I absolutely fucking love it. Top class keeper who still clearly has the motivation to play and at 33, could still be very good for 4-5 years. We haven't had any consistency in net since Lehmann and this would be huge for our spine.

In response to Reply # 92

he brings pace and a strong work rate as a 10 or on the wings. so he'll be good for what, 7-11 goals?

ings and origi are basically replacing borini/balotelli/lambert, but they are also both young and while they have the potential, i don't see either of them having double-digit goals next year.

sturridge is sturridge. maybe all goes well after his hip surgery, but if the past is any indication he will be out often this year.

liverpool still need a proven goal scorer and bacca would certainly bring that to the table.

there's a send-back clause (is that the first time I've ever heard of one?) since the interim board signed off on the transfer ... if the next board isn't bartomeu they can send him back to ATM for about 4m euro. Can't see that happening though, think it's just not-being-run-by-an-oligarch-but-rather-by-the-people plus jose has been practically fellating arda for a few years now, so Barca had to move quick.

Apparently Arda + Vidal were Luis' two requests at the offseason and it's good on the club that despite the transfer ban + elections, they're both seeming wrapped up.

Pogba tho ..

Rafinha
Sergi Roberto

+Arda Turan

it looks like our young players are again gonna be frozen out. Thiago saga all over again.

In response to Reply # 0

say city doesn't come back with an improved offer because sterling's been agitating so much they fell like they can get a discount. what can liverpool do? force him to play? bench him with/without pay?

i mean, sterling is contracted through 2017. granted it's unlikely, could FSG just play extreme hardball and say "enjoy your 35K per match" for two years? or would it just be a nightmare locker room scenario?

just kind of wondering how spiteful a team could be towards a player under contract.

it's not like his contract is up next year. so it's really more of a PR move on Liverpool's part to take the high road and be above these kinds of squabbles, because they could snuff out his development and wages for two years.

i know selling him is the right thing to do, but the way he and his agent have been going about has been pretty piss poor.

it's high. a little man city inflation built in there, as well as their need to have homegrown players certainly helped. but for a player who doesn't really dominate games, so much of that fee is based on his potential still.

sterling is obviously an electric player and i'm going to miss seeing him wrong-foot defenders for liverpool. with the ball at his feet he can dazzle. if he can translate that control into more goals for himself or more consistently setting up others it will be a great purchase for city. for sterling's sake i hope the change is scenery is really what he needed.

time to move on.

Maybe Sterling hits that next level and also doesn't turn out to be an immature 20-something who's already been arrested for domestic abuse and very messily forced his way out of Liverpool.

Or maybe not.

Everyone knows they really need a quality CD & DMF, but here we are again and no real activity on either front. MU has gotten better IN SPADES and Wenger is just happy with 3rd place again.

but what was so bad about arsenal's defense last year?
post-southampton debacle, they conceded something like 11 goals
in their last 18 league games, coquelin was statistically
the 2nd best holding mid in england, and they just added a
world class keeper.

i guess it's just me, but i think their back line is fine.
they need to add a legit 9 more than anything (giroud does
a lot of things well but just can't finish)

A CB really depends on how Gabriel works out with a full year under his belt. Outside of Mertesacker and Kocielny, they have a defense full of fullbacks. Gibbs, Monreal, Debuechy, Bellerin, and Chambers. I think I'm missing someone else. I just feel like another player who can help out in central defense and just above the back line would be ideal. Unless you're okay with Flamini and Arteta holding down the midfield enforcement when Coquelin needs a rest. I don't think Wilshire or Ramsey add enough defensively to be reliable here.

And they have a bunch of games they have to play, and since they are in the UCL, they should have plans on going all the way. And the squad they have looks like it's about to be out in the quarters again.

136. "A 9 is needed but so is depth defensively"
In response to Reply # 132

As you said Giroud does everything well except be clinical...and for how mercurial the team is, we need a 9 who can finish chances and allow us to then play with leads. That's doubly important as our tactics have gotten more counter oriented so that goal efficiency further allows us to play within that counter comfort zone in big matches.

DMF, Coquelin is great but when you are involved in every tournament, you cannot have Flamini/Arteta as your only cover for him. He is going to tire and you need another man who can boss the defensive midfield which is what completely opens up our attacking spaces because Ramsey/Cazorla/Wilshere/Ox (or whoever is playing advanced CMF role) can now float into space without exposing the back-line...same goes for the side mids who now have more liberty to roam because of that constant security blanket provided by a fresh Coquelin and other DMF when Coquelin isn't playing.

In terms of back-line, I think Gabriel will be very good there as he showed some very good signs (Chambers, on the other hand, as a lot of growing to do in terms of how he recognizes plays...way too many risks) but imo we really need a LB and ideally a LB/CB because Monreal (who played a fair amount of CB with Kosc being hurt) looks set to leave and Gibbs is inconsistent, and has hamstrings that are as erratic as a teeny bopper.

Cech is a huge upgrade and will be so vital in shoring up our spine...but we certainly do need another DMF and a true 9 to reinforce that spine, plus a LB/CB. I don't understand any of the Vidal rumors because unless Santi leaves, we are set in terms of midfield...I get the feeling that's just lazy journalism because he and Alexis share the same agent and are good friends from their national team duties.

There's never enough depth for Arsenal. They have a tramatic injury that takes out 3 or 4 players every year for long stretches of time it seems. And if that happens for Coquelin or one of the CBs, that's not looking too good. I'm just not really high on Arteta or Flamini at the highest level. And i'm not saying replace Coquelin, because I think he's at a good place in his development, and is on his way to being an excellent player. It's just there's no other really defensively minded MFs on the squad. That's scary to me. And I'm not saying break the bank. There's plenty of good talent out there for cheap.

I personally think Benzema has become really overrated in the last couple of years. And I followed Lyon for a while...

i'm not wholly convinced he's the right kind of striker for rodgers. he might find himself on the end of some of moreno's crosses, but for the most part that's not been liverpool's style of play. how they go from suarez to the likes of lambert/balo/benteke, i'm not sure. balo's lack of success last year wasn't just because of his attitude.

the reason no one is crying about Iker is because we all were surprised he was even there LAST year.

we've been prepared for awhile now. could the parting having been "nicer?" of course, and it's disappointing that it went down the way it did. that said, we've got an entire club to worry about - not just one player. should we stop supporting RM simply because they didn't throw a ticker tape parade for Iker's departure? FOH.

i'm amused that you're so touched though and caping for him this hard.

jesus.

just because the few RM fans don't come on here and cock-swaddle everything the club does like Barca fans do means nothing.

he is just ONE player in the grand scheme. an all-timer for sure...Saint Iker and alladat.

however, as i'm sure you've noticed, RM isn't quite getting the returns they expected despite outlaying hundreds of millions in salary of late. yes, there's a CL title and a La Liga title and whatnot, but for the most part Barca (and even sometimes Atletico of late) are kicking our butt. so when i say there's a whole club to focus on, that's what i mean.

fans had plenty of time to mourn for Casillas. understandably, many RM fans may ALSO not be up in arms because of De Gea's inevitable arrival.

you obviously read and are invested in this post. all it takes is one line over the last 3 days, but nah, crickets.

the point that Iker's just one player in the scheme is exactly what I'm calling Real Madrid fans on. He was captain for 5 years. he was rewarded with a "contract for life." He wasn't just another player.

i wouldn't expect "cock-swaddling," i'd expect disappointment. i'd expect a little "we'll miss you" or "man, what a sad way to leave." i'd expect a single post about probably the best player of the 21st century to play for the team (yeah, I know CR7, but Iker was better/more important for so long). i expected too much, i guess. lol.

How would you feel about someone who was openly rooting for the Seahawks and let's say the Patriots (or any other big AFC franchise) as well? And then the day after Brady retires, doesn't say a word about it. What would you think?

>doesn't say a word about it. What would you think?

first of all, for me, there's rules to this shit that * I * live by. for anyone to root for the Hawks and the Pats would be ludicrous to me. why? because those teams are in the same league and can actually play each other in the regular season just about every year and can play for the title. MU and RM are not in the same league, and they can only play each other by the "grace" of each team's success in a particular season and the "luck" of random draws which is to say it's pretty rare (and on those occasions i support MU). the comparison you are trying to make doesn't work for me.

as for the other part of your point, if some Pats fan doesn't come on this message board and comment on Brady's retirement who am i to say they are bad fan? i mean, clearly jerseytornado and you would judge them harshly without knowing jack about them or why they didn't come make a statement, but that's not me. i don't really get that invested in the people who post here, who y'all root for, or what y'all do. that's not to say i don't enjoy coming here and interacting, but it's not that serious to me. thus, i found it funny when jerseytornado is admonishing "bad" RM fans for not coming to throw adulations on Iker when he doesn't even care about RM.

i don't even care about all that semi-hostile back n forth we had up there. it's just not that serious to me. i do find it funny how seemingly outraged people like you, jersey, vik, etc. get that a few of us support two teams that aren't rivals, rarely face each other and really have nothing to do with each other.

BUT, you did seem pretty serious earlier in this post. i can't hear your tone but for as much as you were arguing with me, RM fans caring and posting about Iker seemed to be important you.

if it's not that serious then let's agree to meet there and move on.

Schneiderlin scored the only goal in the 6th minute. Good to see him tally.

All of the newbies looked solid. Schweini looked really good...he's gonna help MU boss the midfield big time.

Hard to say much about the squad since it was basically a split squad each half. The young boys played the 2nd so the team definitely looked more threatening in the 1st half.

last I had read Evans was on his way to Everton, so I was surprised to see him out there on the pitch.

MU definitely needs a few pieces. Januzaj looked dangerous at times though which was nice to see. they had Memphis playing CAM but i thought he was a winger by trade.

should be a fun season.

Not that a Laporta administration wouldn't do something fucked up too, but you can't have all Barto's bullshit and continue.

Qatar $$$ sigh.

Y'all know Barto is just Rosell's puppet right?

Was hoping Laporta -- as bad as his transfer record is -- would've won it.

Bartomeu seems to be in Enrique's good graces though, locking up his two requests, so we'll see.

i've sorta resigned myself to seeing him go. he deserves the right to decide his future and i think it's elsewhere (somewhere in EPL specifically)

It'd be nice if he and Aguero could stay healthy for a full international tournament.

He's everything you want in a box-to-box midfielder... if he can keep his cool. I like him a lot, but I'm just not sure if he fits in with this team. He would be an ideal player for Atletico Madrid though.

GOOD. Also probably ensures Pjanacadabra stays in the capital for the duration of his prime.

Throw in Salah, Digne and Gerson... we in business!

(Really hope we don't sell Romagnoli to finance it all though)
