Anyhow...you haven't admit that you lied yet, on several fronts...so I like pointing it out, because it amuses me.

I didn't go to any shows this year, although my dog did run up on Andy Kindler and spook him a little on a walk this weekend. That was the extent of my participation. If it was this weekend, too bad you missed a Timbers home game, too. You should see the city in full soccer swing, makes you believe the sport has a future in the states.

Best show I saw was the Grawlix @ the Bossanova. Great show. I love Portland, and I think Bridgetown is my favorite festival. Plus, spent a lot of time at Ground Kontrol playing Mike Tyson's Punch Out. I still got it. Also I still know the Tyson code.

If the Cavs lose early, I can see Blatt getting fired and Lue getting elevated, unless Gilbert decides to go after a huge name.

But there's no reason Lue wouldn't/shouldn't be a candidate for one of these other openings.

But the question I always ask myself with a borderline firing is simple, was this guy going to be their coach when the team *really* started winning? I think the answer was probably no with Williams. He'll coach again.

Not saying he necessarily wanted him gone persay, but with the team wanting to lock Davis down as a long timer franchise player, had to think the front office would can Monty Williams without AD's approval, right? Right?

I mean what kind of deep convo was had with Steph prior to the MJ firing? The players didnt love it but if you keep them informed and in the loop theyre generally gonna be ok with it. They know its a business--just like any of them could get traded.

First, Curry wasn't considered one of the top 5 players in the league when they fired Mark Jackson. Now, with him as the MVP, one of the most popular players in the league, the eventual recipient of $25 to $30 million a year contract, and possibly a championship winner, they are going to run any and all major personnel changes past him. Certainly the coaching ones.

Second, didn't have to be a deep one at the time. Could have been, "Hey, we're not seeing eye to eye with Jackson, and we're plainning on making a change." Even then, I imagine if Steph had REALLY and vocally objected, they would have had at least some second thoughts.

I was fine with him sticking around for one more year, but really what's the difference. He still hasn't shown he's more than an average coach, and when you have a 22 year old top 5 player on your roster, average just aint cutting it.

This move is as much about 3 years from now as it is about today. We need a new voice in the locker room and a new direction on the court that is more in step with management. AD is about to sign his extension, so let's not let Monty get any more entrenched when a move seems inevitable.

I wish Monty this best, and I think he is a terrific assistant coach. But as the head guy he had 5 seasons to prove something, and he came up short. No shame in that, and he certainly has time to improve. Hopefully he gets another shot at the big chair somewhere down the road.

Not just this one. I've watched almost every single professional game Monty Williams has coached, so I'm not really here to get into an argument over his abilities. He's average (very good in some areas, quite poor in others), and I believe he can be better than that with some more seasoning as an assistant (he should go back to Pop). Its simply time for us to try someone, and something, else.

Look...I actually agree with your overall agenda here, but in this case it was time to move on. If you don't believe in a guy, why keep him around?

This was clearly leading towards the exact same situation the Thunder have had the past few years: People constantly lamenting about how terrible the coach is, but no one had the balls to fire him early on because he kept making forward progress - even though he was never championship calibre. The fact that the Pelicans had the foresight to not be content with babysteps is actually amazing.

He has TWO league MVP candidates and one of the
5 best defensive players in the LEAGUE

Hell, Reggie JACKSON is better than EITHER of the
New Orleans guards from THIS SEASON

What was Monty given?

Monty got ONE season of a mostly healthy Davis
only beginning to scratch the surface of his talent

NOBODY can even point out WHAT TEAMS HE WAS SUPPOSED
TO FINISH AHEAD OF THAT HE DIDN'T

He OVERACHIEVED if anything

Their offense lacks imagination. Monty is still not good with late game management.

He has not improved and the team hasn't made a leap.

As far as their roster goes, on paper they're a lot better than or as good as a few teams that made the playoffs:
Dallas
Houston
Memphis

Monty did have to deal with a lot of injuries, but the team just doesn't play like a well coached team. Just getting by on talent alone.

Let's look at the teams on paper at the beginning of the year:

Anthony Davis -22
Tyreke Evans -25
J'Rue Holiday -24
Eric Gordon -26
Omer Asik - 28
Ryan Anderson -27

Dirk Nowitzki - 36
Monta Ellis -29
Jameer Nelson -33
Chandler Parsons -26
Tyson Chandler -32
Devin Harris -32

Zach Randolph -33
Marc Gasol -30
Mike Conley -27
Tony Allen -33
Courtney Lee -29
Tayshaun Prince -35

James Harden -25
Dwight Howard -29
Terrence Jones -23
Trevor Ariza -29
Patrick Beverly - -26
Donatas Montejeunas - -24

So now, at the beginning of the year The Pelicans shouldn't think they're as good as those teams?

Come the fuck on.

Me and Kajun been expecting these dudes to be good for 2 years now based on that talent. And they're middling.

None of these clowns watches the squad. We had plenty of talent this year. In no way did we "overachieve." 45 wins was really my bottom line at the start of the year.

We went 16-14 against the LEast...so yes 50 wins and better than Dallas SHOULD have happened. I felt that way all year, injuries and all.

Whatever, ding dong the def jam's gone. Let's hope Dell and Co. do the right thing here.

What leap are they supposed to make? Every time someone gets healthy another guy goes on the injured list.

I agree that his X's and O's do need more work. But to say he hasn't steadily improved the team since the last time they were decent (also under his watch, with CP3) isn't accurate.

>As far as their roster goes, on paper they're a lot better

I'm not the biggest Monty Williams guy, but come on...there's no way in HELL they're better than ANY of those 3 teams.

>Monty did have to deal with a lot of injuries, but the team
>just doesn't play like a well coached team. Just getting by on

Man, that entire roster was a MASH unit. AD missed time, Gordon, Holliday AND Anderson missed a rack of time, and the NBA BOUGHT THE TEAM during his tenure.

He made the playoffs his first year, then that ridiculous trade happened, then the NBA bought the team and gutted the roster. He finally builds the team back up to playoff contention and gets axed? Come on

And I'm not even a big Monty guy like that, but this is pretty messed up.

Not saying he was the best coach, but I actually think they overachieved considering all the issues that team had this season.

He even kept Tyreke Evans interested.

here prove that people can make themselves believe anything (or at the very least be on some bullshit....)

Nobody saying Monty was the second coming of Coach Pop or KC Jones....lol...I'm just saying that he didn't deserve to be clipped...Just yet....

I don't care if you are Pels superfan and you were down with Hornets when CP3 was doing work...

I don't care if you pumping Kentucky blood and only watch the Pels because AD is on some new and improved KD shit....

No one can convince me that THIS team was better than Memphis, Dallas (this one is the silliest considering they basing this off of how bad they looked against Houston...Which had more to do with Parsons' injury and Rondo quitting on the team...) or Houston....

No one can convince me that Monty juggling injuries to key players didn't play a huge role in them not taking hold of that 8-7th spot in a more forceful fashion....

No one can convince me that people thought that Tyreke E. was going to have a bounce back season like he did....

Yeah, I know Monty has made some questionable moves in late in games...But so has Coach Thibs (not resting Butler in game four when Bron was on the bench) and other high profile "respected" coaches....

Nah man....This was all about a franchise feeling themselves off of AD's HOLY SHIT season...

This shit reeks of a small time franchise trying to act BIG TIME....People can't blame the GM (who just got an extension) and then blame Monty who worked with what he had....

Basically: BLAME THE DUMB BLACK COACH....That's what I'm reading here....

The irony? AD ain't gonna stick with that bullshit franchise anyway....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

He'll certainly play seven seasons/through his second contract there. Long ago the NBA set-up rookie contracts so that the teams that drafting superstars essentially get to keep them until they're eligible to become unrestricted free agents.

I imagine he'll stay after his first seven seasons too. In the post-Bron-and-Bosh-to-the-Heat world, the world is pushing harder and harder to give players all the incentives in the world to stay with the teams the drafted them. New Orleans will make him the mayor before they just let him walk away.

Again....this is in your mind, my dude...U want to believe that....Also, u need to learn what trolling is...I've been called a lot of things on this board...But never a troll...

U can't just throw out bullshit about trolling to dismiss my post.....

Now I'm a troll because I think Monty did pretty well (mistakes and all) with a team that was hit by injuries, was banking on Tyreke Evans to return to his rookie season play and depended on AD to play out the role of Wilt/Russell/KG hybrid every night?

Right....lol

Backhand compliment King himself.

"I don't care if you pumping Kentucky blood..."

and

"Rondo quitting on the team..."

This is what you do. And it's sad you don't own it either.

All of your keen "points" based on not watching them, I have addressed in other posts in this thread.

Cheers.

Dude...it ain't even that serious....It's bullshit Billy....This agenda shit got u looking over your shoulder...lol

U r a Kentucky fanatic....U watch the Pels only because AD is on the team....And u think that the Pels should have been better or just as good as Memphis, Dallas, and Houston IN THE WEST...

Everything I said up top^^^^was said in my previous posts...If u think I'm TROLLING u by pointing out that such thinking is puzzling at best then do u...

Monty didn't deserve to get clipped....And your Kentucky fanaticism is stopping u from being unbiased....

Now if u think differently, say why...but don't go that lazy route calling me a troll....

You only include those shots, in order to get me to respond.

Troll move.

It's not secret why I watch the Pels.

But it's also not a secret that I actually WATCH the Pels.

And it's also known that I openly like a lot of the players on the Pels (Tyreke, E.G., Holiday).

And I have also pointed out how their roster at the beginning of the season is on par with the other teams noted. You can go compare player for player if you want.

I also took into account injuries were a major issue as they were last year. But the team doesn't play or execute like a well coached team on either end.

And why do I know that?

Wait for it....

Cuz I watch the Pels.

Smh...you dudes just wanna argue cuz you have your own agendas. Whatever, I don't care.

What I don't do is talk about teams I don't watch or rosters I am not familiar with.

Do I know anything about the Warriors?

Nope.

The Blazers?

Nope.

But y'all dudes are intent on being willfully ignorant for your own pressed ass agendas. And it is pretty bizarre and pathetic.

He should get the same leeway Wittman is getting. His team just made the playoffs this year in the West. I'm certainly not arguing that he could be championship caliber but he should have been given the shot to at least coach this version of the roster for two more years.

I feel Calipari is too powerful in basketball not to get this job.
In fact I don't think it would have linked if he wasn't slated to get it.

We get better info from our fan blogs.

I always thought Cal was a non-starter for us anyway, because his demands would be astronomical ($$$+Power).

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
