he's got a lot of bonuses coming his way for HR milestones. he can achieve those (albeit a little slower) while not on the juice. he can't achieve those if he's banned for life.

he's got a little ways to reach ruth, might not be possible w/o roids (mostly b/c i don't know if anyone wants him after this contract is up even if he's got gas in the tank), but who knows? he was hitting homers when he was a scrawny kid, so i doubt he'd completely lose his power hitting.

the team is bad and he's pretty old. also that was technically his first violation and he never failed a test. he must have thought he was bulletproof before that and COULD know better now.

and to your point, that's because Manny doesn't care, ARod is more calculating. obviously you could argue that either way, i'm just making the point of why he MIGHT be inclined to drop it, not that he's actually dropped it.

while suspended... I believe he'd rather hit .120 then not get the rest of that contract... so personally (even though it comes across as naive) I don't think he's doing it strictly for financial reasons... I think he's just off to a hot start

The wheels falling off = banned for life = no more money. Not saying he's not dumb enough to try, but he's definitely not thinking "eh, fuck it, why not?" As I said, he's far more calculating than that.

Prior to being popped last year he had never been disciplined at all under MLB's drug testing system. He admitted to use prior to the system being in place but under the rules he should've been facing a 50 game suspension which isn't a huge financial trouble for him. Now, after Selig pulled the "psyche, super-suspension" for the Biogenesis thing he's facing career ban which means no $60+M in guaranteed salaries and no potential lucrative bonuses, that's a pretty big risk.

Of course there is the other case that, to this day, A-Rod has never tested positive for a banned substance in his life so he may believe that despite the major risk he's got a PED system in place that is so far ahead of the testing protocols that he can't get caught so long as he keeps people from snitching on him.

I think ARod finishing his career putting up numbers, reaching milestones means much more to him than losing that contract money does.

This dude has made over half a billion dollars in salary alone.

But having an entire year off and playing once a week in the field might end up extending his productivity. This might be the 90s Paul Molitor phase of A-Rod

I have never heard anything that sounded credible, but they are there.

But if you look at what we know:

-In the summer of 2007, Jose Canseco calls out A-Rod. A-Rod gives an interview saying that he never used.

-In 2009, his tests from 2003 leaked showing that he was on the shit during his time in Texas. In February of 2009, A-Rod admits to using from 2001-2003. Blaming it on the culture and dealing with injury. Says that he has never used as a Yankee.

-In February of 2010, it's reported that A-Rod received treatment from Anthony Galea in March of 2009. Galea was busted for bringing PEDs across the Canadian border. Galea says that he only treated A-Rod with anti-inflammatories.

-In August of 2013, A-Rod's name leaks in connection with Biogenesis and PEDs. A-Rod denies it for months, aggressively so.

-In January of 2014, A-Rod tells the DEA that he used PEDs from 2010 through 2012.

-So from 1996-2000, he is arguably the best player in baseball.
-From 2001-2003, when he admits to using, he is the best player not named Barry Bonds.
-From 2004-2009, he is the best player not named Albert Pujols.
-From 2010-2012, when he admits to using, he has gone from great to good (as many people do when they are age 34-36).

So basically, looking at all of this, I feel confident in saying that I have no idea when he was and was not using. It's possible that he has been using continuously for 22+ years and has only admitted it when he the evidence pushed him into a corner for specific periods. I supposed that it's possible that he only used during those windows when he was caught and he is just unlucky in that department. Maybe the PEDs have not had a huge impact on his play but he wanted to use them based on his well-documented personal insecurity. At this point, there will be people out there digging and very few people are going to give him the benefit of the doubt if anything gets reported.

But yeah, A-Rod shows up early to work on his game and to avoid distractions to himself and the team...and somebody out there finds a way to get pissed off about it. Kind of hilarous.

Runs scored (362 away from Rickey) and Runs batter in (314 away from Aaron)

He's also 44 hits away from 3000.

about the milestones they ARE acknowledging, they are essentially saying only home runs are affected by steroid usage, which there is no proof of.

there's no marketing potential in his stolen bases or runs scored, therefore they weren't in the contract.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

no one knows what they agreed to lol.

Depending on how the yankees framed the marketing opportunity, they may be fine.

we dont know whats in the language. its still hilarious that they are making arod the sympathetic character here.
6 million isnt worth the bad press i say. just settle it somehow.
and he's helping them be in 1st. its hilarious.
this might be the closest he's been to being their mvp during his time as a yank.

but arod is doing that by playing well, like you said.

This wouldn't be a big convo if arod hit number 660 in late august instead of early may ya know lol

Its like the yankees need him to play well, but they don't WANT him to play well. lol
