Stan Van Gundy coached 3 HOFers his entire career and has made 2 trips to the finals with 2 different teams

Larry Brown won a title and came withing 10 seconds of a repeat with only 1

Rick Carlisle developed that 1 and was a Billups sprained ankle from the finals in 2003, then won a title with 1 who was on the downside of his career.

Tom Thibodeau had zero and is currently 15th all time win%. Take out Kerr, Blatt, and Donovan and he's 12th.

Larry Bird made a Finals with 1 and a half if you count Mullin.

Dwayne Casey has zero. Kerr had 1. Bud has 1 if you want to call Horford a HOFer, your choice.

So no. A preponderance of successful coaches have not achieved their success with 3 HOFers.

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

And the DPOY

>Stan Van Gundy coached 3 HOFers his entire career and has
>made 2 trips to the finals with 2 different teams

Uh. Riley fired him, took his team to the TITLE.

And Van Gundy's Magic team was Lulz in the Finals

>Larry Brown won a title and came withing 10 seconds of a
>repeat with only 1

That team had FOUR all-stars in the starting lineup and the
DPOY.

Lulz.

>Rick Carlisle developed that 1 and was a Billups sprained
>ankle from the finals in 2003, then won a title with 1 who was
>on the downside of his career.

So he didn't win.

>Tom Thibodeau had zero and is currently 15th all time win%.
>Take out Kerr, Blatt, and Donovan and he's 12th.

He never won.

One of the greatest underachievers ever.

>Larry Bird made a Finals with 1 and a half if you count
>Mullin.

He didn't win.

>Dwayne Casey has zero. Kerr had 1. Bud has 1 if you want to
>call Horford a HOFer, your choice.
>
>So no. A preponderance of successful coaches have not
>achieved their success with 3 HOFers.

The only team in recent memory that won without MULTIPLE
All-Stars was that Mavericks team.

So Shut the fuck up.

You used it to make a point and used a horrid example

You can't use a team with FOUR all-stars to make a point
about how you don't need elite talent to win

That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard

The Pistons had FOUR All-Stars in their starting lineup.

FOUR.

And the DPOY, the mind you.

So you're a pathetic imbecile.

You said Hall Of Famers though, not All-Stars.

I honestly want to know why, rather than saying, "Okay, not hall of famers but any coach needs some talent, maybe I should have said All-Stars"

this very strange man would rather launch full personal attacks while launching diversionary flares in every direction. I mean, we can all read!!! The debate began with him literally QUOTING the phrase "Hall Of Famers"...

Trump's America, I guess. Right there with the thousands of people celebrating 9-11 in the streets of Jersey City and Carly Fiorinas imaginary abortion videos. Facts don't matter, just yelling loudly and crudely.

The answer to that question is my only interest

Dont care about Shaw, dont care about newly placed goalposts, none of it

Does he need 3 HOFers to be successful?

Do a preponderance of successful coaches have 3 HOFers?

O_E realized he said something stupid so changed the topic. Your answers to these very specific and simple yes/no questions?

Shaw was a disaster, this is more like his Jim Cleamons/Kurt Rambis look and he really might not ever get another.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/03/report-mike-dantoni-interested-in-coaching-nuggets/

The Nuggets, who just fired Brian Shaw, need a direction.

Mike D’Antoni needs a team that will adapt to his style.

Match made in heaven?

Sam Amick of USA Today:

It had already been reported months ago D’Antoni could be a candidate in Denver, where he began his NBA head-coaching career, if Shaw were fired. But it wasn’t clear whether that previous report came from D’Antoni’s camp or the Nuggets. If it originated with Denver, this mutual interest could be quite telling. If this is just more of D’Antoni expressing his interest, that still something about his persistence.

D’Antoni could fit well with the Nuggets. I think Ty Lawson is up to the challenge of running his offense. Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari exceled when D’Antoni coached him with the Knicks, and Kenneth Faried is at his best playing up-tempo.

I still have major questions about D’Antoni’s ability to coach defense and some questions about his ability to manage players. But he came across very forward-thinking at last weekend’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Multiple times watching him speak, I thought, “I’d want that guy running my team.”

The Nuggets should explore multiple options – but D’Antoni absolutely belongs on their list of candidates.

Malone's also coming off of being royally screwed by the Kings (no pun intended) so I think more people are rooting for him. But mostly, he has the excuse of youth on his side while Shaw didn't.

Most of the reports were also that Shaw struggled to connect with the players. He might end up being a good coach but I think he was probably just as relieved as anyone else to get his walking papers from Denver.

In response to Reply # 49

I never said Malone was doing more with less. I was explaining how that perception exists, fair or not.

The Nuggets won 57 games the year before Shaw got there. The firing of Karl was seen as surprising. People underestimated the impact of Iggy and Brewer. People didn't know Ty Lawson was a drunk. Shaw still made a lot of bad decisions but he had a shit situation than people didn't realize the extent of the shittiness.

Coaches with young teams get more rope. And Malone is coming off of being fired surprisingly/unfairly. The Nuggets are coming off bad years and are in an obvious rebuild and grooming a rookie PG not dealing with 'Dre Miller and Ty. There were zero expectations this year.

Swap the order and I'm sure Malone would have flamed out and lost his infamous temper and Shaw would be give more patience. I don't think any coach would have survived Shaw's situation because he was taking over a team on the decline that the front office and owners didn't see as on the decline. But, still, his struggled on his own, completely failed to connect with his players, and a change was probably best for all parties.

Fair or not, especially since they lost their best player via free agency (although people didn't give Iggy enough credit), he was being held to that standard (or, at least, battling for the final playoff spot.) People were surprised Karl was fired and then Shaw came in and struggled.

And then there's all of this: http://www.sbnation.com/2015/3/3/8142915/brian-shaw-fired-nuggets-coach-history
