"Have we discussed Doug Marrone's self-induced L?"

opted out of his HC contract with the bills, now he's going to be an O Line coach for the jaguars.

AYDMF

why would any owner hire a guy as a head coach who left his last job even though he didn't have to?

http://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2015/01/jaguars_coach_gus_bradley_said_doug_marrone_showed_great_humility_in_interviews.html

(of course, the Bills are still paying him $4m this year, so not the worst L ever)

to move up and take Watkins last year. And it sounds like there was friction between him and the rest of the front office.

I'm curious to know who he wanted though

With how well the rookie WR's did this year, jumping the gun to draft Watkins doesn't sound smart in hindsight. Watkins did ball though, so the Bills shouldn't have any regrets (and got a better coach afterwards)

But I'm curious to know if he wanted to wait and stand pat with the draft position, or if he had someone else in mind. Storming out on draft day isn't a good look

He knew that they were going to want to bring in their own coach unless they had a great season, and he wanted to avoid being a lame duck, so he took the buyout money and bet on himself getting another job. Long term, it worked out for him.

I was absolutely stunned when he was hired out of Syracuse and then he responds to getting the inexplicable job by inexplicably opting out.

I know there was talk that he was opposed to bringing in Orton and opposed to the Sammy Watkins deal but it's not a good look to leave so quickly because of the front office/owner. I mean, it's not like he's going to get to be running the show at his next job either.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

if the team changed owners, he could opt out of the deal and they'd still owe him $4m

He wanted that in there because a new owner might decide to fire him just to bring in his own guy or a splash hire. The Bills agreed because they were desperate.

So he gets 4 mil from the bills this year, plus his jags salary, and gets to try the head coaching carousel again next year.

On top of that, doesn't the Bills still have to pay him this upcoming season?

He looks so disloyal. If I was an NFL owner I definitely wouldn't hire him.
