What's the situation with Anderson Verajo? Assuming he comes back, I suppose letting Love walk could make sense since Verajo would help Cleveland's bench to an extent. In no shape form or fashion do I think Verajo and Love are comparable, but Cleveland will need some bench presence assuming they allow Love to walk and Verajo would help in that regard. Still hard for me to believe the Cavs would let Love walk though despite how shaky this season was. The offseason for the Cavs should be fairly interesting though.

In the last 5 seasons (including this one) he has played the following amount of games: 26, 65, 25, 25, 31. So you're talking about a player who has had a significant injury and played less than 31 games in the past 4 out of 5 seasons....and will be 33 next year.

Not saying they will re-sign Love but saying Andy provides depth is a bit of a stretch considering he is a huge injury risk.

They can try to deal him, but that may be tough on the heels of an injury season. I'm stunned they extended a player so old and so injury-prone for so long. Don't be surprised if that contract is a major albatross down the line.

They need to sign-and-trade Love in an ideal scenario. That way, they can obtain some assets for him... but since he's almost certainly going to opt out, if he decides he'd rather walk than engage in S&T stuff, the Cavs don't really have a choice if they'd like to keep Tristan and Shump (which I would imagine they would).

JR I imagine would accept the player option for next year. Delly I would assume is gone-- someone will pay him more than the Cavs realistically will be able to afford.

Love is as good as gone then, assuming LeBron is the one that counseled Tristan Thompson in terms of holding out for more scratch. No way the Cavs can afford to pay LeBron, Irving, Love, Verajo, and Thompson at the same time. Interesting times in Cleveland. Thompson is a good enough player, but him starting truly hurts Cleveland's bench.

**edit**

Orbit_Established, if you're reading this, I might have to concede you may be accurate in terms of Love going to Beantown next year.

bench

who didn't play at all

Andy
Mike Miller
Haywood
etc...

signed for a couple of more years

+

Bron is a FA

so Love walks and frees up his $16M

but after CLE gives Bron the world

will they have enough to give Tristan THAT much more than $13M/year?

IDK

and look how much trouble he caused for opposing big men in terms of grabbing offensive rebounds, in the playoffs no less when opposing coach staff are well aware of trying box Thompson out. The Cleveland front office would be complete morons if they let him walk.

There's a reason why Bron wanted him there. Tristan knows his place, and he performs his role beautifully. Grab boards, pass back out to Bron. If you have a guy who can do that at a very high level on a team like this, that's worth a fuckton of money.

IRT rejecting 4/$52M

that still sounds right, IMO

Love was getting $16M because he boards + gives you +20ppg

I'm sayin'

cool, Tristan bet on himself

but I still don't think he's worth THAT much more than $13M/year

new CBA or not

that still sounds right to me.

i.e., Love's $16M going directly to Tristan is a false equivalency, IMO

especially considering you have to pay Bron first

think he's still on chill getting his $$$ from NBA contracts

he took less in MIA

isn't getting top $$$ yet

I'm guessing he will be in the +$25M/year range

what does that leave to give Tristan more than $13M/year?

Like Frank said earlier, that Verajo contract is going to be a huge albatross for the Cavs front office. Both LeBron and Thompson have the same agent, so I'd think LeBron would try and get Thompson somewhat of a hook-up, but I see what you're saying in terms of left over dollars.

He's a 24-year-old high-motor offensive rebounder who now can claim improving offensive efficiency and clutch playoff performances. He's a stone cold lock for big dollars.

They'll figure it out one way or another.
