"Poll question: The BLACKTINO Major League Baseball Agenda: Pick your Country/Island"

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/15/sports/curacao-becomes-unlikely-supplier-of-major-league-players.html

We're a bit early but between the Obama announcement and the NYT kinda letting this one out, I figured we'd get a jump

All have their strengths and weaknesses

Cubans are the most African + grew up playing chess and reading war magazines. Great, but mad like African-Americans, without the sensibilities of knowing how to deal with White America...see: Puig

Dominicans are feisty, colorful, charismatic, kinda like African-Americans in the 1980s...plus they love white people a lot more than we do...but they are starting to go through a white women and Cocaine phase (also like African-Americans in the 1970s and 80s), which spells trouble

Venenzuela are a bit of a mix. Tend to be grumpy and good

Curacao: Kinda like Cubans, but not nearly as mad. Makes for easy transition into MLB (See: Andruw Jones @ 19, etc). Calm. Relaxed. Haven't been a whole lot of them yet, so we have to see about the staying power

Others: Panama, Colombia, Puerto Rico

Poll result (15 votes)
Cuba (3 votes)Vote
Dominican Republic (6 votes)Vote
Venenzuela (1 votes)Vote
Curacao (2 votes)Vote
Other (name it) (1 votes)Vote
I'm White (2 votes)Vote

I heard NO MENTION of it

Jackie Robinson West was, like, the smallest, least
powerful team in the entire tourney

They were a small ball stereotypically asian team

I WILL NOT let up

The pro league here is still mostly ass and pretty confined to one region. But it'll get bigger for sure.

Obviously soccer is number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 here but baseball is huge regionally. Basketball is kind of a thing. Kind of.

He's a solid player. Good defender who can hit some. This is not the real Didi Gregorius.

i didnt know baseball was big in the netherlands

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didi_Gregorius
Gregorius was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 18, 1990, the son to Johannes Gregorius, Sr. and Sheritsa Stroop. At the time, Johannes pitched for the Amsterdam Pirates in Honkbal Hoofdklasse and worked as a carpenter. Stroop played for the Dutch national softball team. His older brother, Johannes, Jr., pitched professionally in Honkbal Hoofdklasse and the Italian Baseball League and most recently played as an infielder in Curaçao. His paternal grandfather, Antonio, was one of the greatest Curaçaoan pitchers of the mid-20th century.

Gregorius began playing tee-ball in the Netherlands before moving to Curaçao at the age of five years where he was raised. He also played soccer and basketball in his youth. Gregorius, his father, and his brother all go by the nickname "Didi." He began using the name in the United States when teammates could not pronounce "Mariekson." He speaks four languages: Dutch, Papiamentu, English, and Spanish.

...is that I'm always compelled to choose it. For years now I've never voted what I actually think about any subject. If "I'm white" is an option, I always click it. I don't even know what this poll was about, what it was asking, or what the options were: I saw "I'm white," and that was that.

Whiteness has a powerful impact on one's decision on any
and everything.

And so if you gravitate to that option without even looking
at the question, then that says that you're whiteness prevents
you from answering the question with any type of fairness.

There should, for example, be an "I'm white" option on
every ballot. It should say
-"Democrat candidate X"
-"Republican candidate Y"
-"I'm White"

That would be actual democracy at work

On one hand, it has obviously thinned out the talent pool and resources inside the country. On the other, it's spreading the sport all over the continent and region with so many Venezuelans arriving in Colombia, Peru, Panama, Curacao, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. It may inadvertently spread culture and coaching even if the outlook for a baseball-crazy country has dimmed a bit. I guess we won't know for years to come but I will definitely keep an eye on it.

I saw Street N Smith did a piece on Colombia as the next beisbol factory. Anyone read it? It wasn't available anywhere online and I couldn't find the mag, it was their preseason baseball mag. I don't really see it because it's confined so much to one area--the experiment of expanding the league into the interior failed miserably--but maybe. There are a lot of big, athletic dudes in the Caribbean, hell it produces tons of soccer players already even though that's truly a *national* pastime. I would love to see Inder and organizations like that invest in baseball or better yet get MLB down there doing its thing. They seem to have hitched their wagons to Brazil these days, which I understand given the sporting culture and gene pool in the country.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
