Magilla, Australian for 'suck'.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Because those numbers alone indicate both teams got better by doing the deal.

Not saying that's definitely the case. But that is how those numbers make it look.

In response to Reply # 5

The other went from decent/good to frontrunner. If your trade puts someone in title contention and it's not you, it's a horrible trade regardless of how your team improves. 326 dude. Contrary to what you alL believe, a trade isn't JUST about making YOUR team better. It's also about NOT giving someone a piece thats make your team obsolete.

than Rose, Gasol and Horford going down last season.

I might be scoring a lil more but without his production we really don't have much of a shot at a W.

Or maybe the Elevator is just that good and I'd actually have 3-4 wins during this span if I played the other 11 teams more often lol

Yeesh.

Deng garbage...won't be around for long.

Brook coming back on major minutes restriction and will be killing second units at 20-25 mins per game...i did my research.

Durant minutes gon increase and I'll be getting a CONSISTENT 50-60 from that spot...that's 150 from my Fs on average...i can depend on that at MINIMUM. I can't deal with Hill anymore...not with Ed Davis bamma try hard ass starting now. And Booz cookin off the bench (I see you Longo). 150 Fs (Pau, Blake, Durant), 50 Cs (Andy, Brook) and 100 Gs (Knight Collison, Klay, Black German)....do some math and cry, nigga.

As has been the case all year, I'm ahead of y'all.

And don't let Pop start trusting Kyle...y'all will be fucked, because Pau will be moved to C.

Career high is 55, but ok.

that's 150 from my Fs on average...i
>can depend on that at MINIMUM. 150 Fs (Pau,
>Blake, Durant),

We have 96 forward minutes. 150/96 = 1.56 FPPM

Durant career high: 1.44
Blake career high: 1.37
Pau career high: 1.40

Proper math puts your F's at 135 MAXIMUM and drops your current average about 15 points.

I know, I know, I'm just furious tho.

Thanks for panicking.

Well, no. It's just 280+ at best, no climbing. Your current lineup is good for 277, other than Durant, who's getting better?

You had a real nice squad with DEPTH. You had roster flexibility. You actually had Bogut injury protection, which is a luxury. Now you cant afford even one injury. Now you HAVE to your guards keep up their current pace at LEAST. And over their last 10, none of them really are.

You panicked, I and I for one, couldnt be less mad.

so I'd never be 'mad' at any miniature progress you extract from that picayunish GM 'ability' you foster. Not sure if we can even call it 'ability'. Know your role wee peasant.

*Smug smirk*

Now, with that said...good trade for you. Basa gave up a lot to get Durant though he didn't give up any first or second round draft picks (again, another trade flying in the face of the rule).

I use to do trades like this. Forecasting my depth and capitalizing on it before it faltered for more consistent high end players. I admire it. Makes me reminisce on the good ole days.

*sigh*

*Hill has been benched and anyone who falls out of favor with Scott, usually finds it hard to fall back in (and Kobe might have an opinion too). But hopefully his numbers stay consistent all season. Basa already alluded to why he was trying to dump Hill (he's been at 1.01 FPPM last 5 games). lol

*Scola...Basa been trying to sell him for a month or so now. He knows as West rounds into form, Scola will look more like last year than the guy he's been so far. And yes, West is rounding into form.

*Bogut...2nd round talent, waiver wire body. And he's CURRENTLY hurt with a knee ailment that's vaguely diagnosed. Which means he'll probably be in and out of the lineup all year...ESPECIALLY if they want to preserve him for the playoffs.

*Barea...there's a glut at G in Dal, some weeks he'll be up, some he'll be down. Right now he's down.

You'll be marginally better but you're not skilled enough to manage the variation these 4 players are going to throw at you. And it'll sting every time Durant puts up 55 plus. It does makes Basa a 'smidge' more vulnerable at F so I guess that's a takeaway.

But he knows he snuck out before the riot started. That's why he's in the parking lot telling you how good your team looks now and that 'you'll be in 1st place by Feb'. I bet he won't even be acknowledging you in Feb. Nor will he say 'my bad' if you're still in last place.

Nope, he'll snicker and sip a warm green tea with a twinge of honey while reclining in his (non)smoking jacket and slippers as he clicks his laptop keyboard to open up another boxscore containing a Durant 'powerup' game.

Awesome!

Magilla's team will improve drastically and my team won't change at all on a PPG basis...i just wanted the consistency of a superstar and I wanted less choices with my guards, because i got tired of shuffling them and, mostly, i wanted to start klay, because his production ain't peaked yet.

And Hill has not been benched. What a cyse. And while I'm at it, Barea was the guy I really almost declined the deal over. He gets his 15...period. Glut or not.

He'll probably get up to 245-250 with health.

If things go ABSOLUTELY perfect, I'd agree with you. But things won't go that way. Barea is at .95 the last 5 games. Scola is doing more with less so far since West returned but I don't think he'll be more than a 1.10-1.15 guy by seasons end. Bogut = in and out and we already discussed Hill.

If Magilla was a better GM, he might be able to squeeze 265 a game outta this mix but...he's not.

As far as your team goes...it'll be the same but will gradually get better as Durant rounds into form. But you're more vulnerable to a few injuries at F (and C) now (Andy and Pau). I don't think it'll be a huge issue for you though.

Again..."(Non)smoking jacket and slippers..."

But I'd be willing to make a league based wager on Magilla being in 1st place by Feb if you're THAT confident you sold him an 2013 Aston Martin (powerful, pretty, luxury) and not a 2015 Dodge Caravan (semi-reliable, safe, underwhelming though).

He had enough C depth that he can still put up numbers without Bogut. But when he plays, bogut is only behind Duncan, Cousins and Brow in per minute production for Center.

Bogut doesn't even have bad games...he just might miss games. I'd a kept him even if he only played in 50% of the games.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

72. "I'm confused. Aren't you arguing *against* the numbers here?"
In response to Reply # 63
Wed Dec-17-14 10:35 AM by Frank Longo

At first, you said it flies in the face of the numbers. But then, you argued that Basa obviously won and that's why it's a fucked up trade... but, if looking at it from *purely* a numbers perspective, Magilla came up. A lot. Like, a LOT a lot.

So why are the numbers what should allegedly matter in a trade when you just argued that Basa won despite the numbers indicating on paper how much he gave up? You could argue those numbers are a mirage... but what if they aren't? Magilla just won big and Basa just lost a lot if those numbers stick. And if you don't think they'll stick... that's individual evaluation, not numbers.

By the numbers, Magilla "won" because he significantly increased his depth and Basa "won" because he fortified his starting lineup. He took a risk on ditching serious depth, Magilla took a risk on ditching a 1.2+ star. On paper, this seems like a totally understandable trade from both sides.

If the issue is a good team getting an asset dealing depth to a bad team... what good is having depth on a good team if you can't trade it to your advantage, and what good is having a high round pick on a bad team if you're losing all the time?

As someone trying to deal CP3 in exchange for real depth, I'm never getting a 1.6+ guy back... or even a first rounder. But I'd be getting serious depth enhancements in all of the deals I'm negotiating. What's wrong with that? Or is there nothing wrong with that, it's just this individual deal you don't like? I seriously need to know before I make a deal, as I'd rather avoid this whole rigmarole if I go through with one.

And these are serious, non-devil's-advocate questions I'm posing. This isn't posturing or individual defense of either guy. I seriously need to know what the rules say I should or shouldn't do in a trade. Right now, it just feels like they discourage trading in general.

By the numbers, allegedly the primary arbiter of "fairness" in a trade, as they exist RIGHT TODAY, you lost. Period. If the numbers are all that matter, you lost. But certain people are arguing that this trade was outlandish because of how much *you* won. Not the person who the current numbers point to. The person who dealt away the significant numbers.

So... what's the ultimate arbiter of fairness? The numbers? Relative draft position of pieces traded? Our own individual opinions? Injury history? The broad concept of "potential/upside"?

Or should the concept of "fairness" be chucked out the window, because we're all adults trying to do our best to come up in this league, and nobody here is tanking or colluding?

I like Lopez. But if people are arguing this trade unfairly benefits you because Bogut gets hurt a lot, and they aren't mentioning Lopez's injury history (or the fact that Durant is coming off a major injury)... I don't know. I guess people just don't like how many points you're currently scoring per game. Or something.

The trade rule was put in place for 3 reasons:

1) Protect rookies from vultures
2) Prevent 'bad'/sketchy trades
3) Ensure relatively even swap of comparable talent

The motivators for these were:

1) Rookies don't know the system so they get taken advantage of
2) Magilla and Celery ALWAYS sucked and sold their best assets to contenders for 'perceived' depth (and sometimes others would do this)
3) Top level talent should be included if top level talent is being traded

The INITIAL rule was, a 1st rounder must be sent back in the deal if a 1st rounder is included. It was later revamped to include the MSR (not my brain child by the way) for STAR players as some of the second round guys produced like 1st rounders. There were also minimum ranges that had to be maintained (one manager can not get more than X amount of FPPM or FPPG than the other).

On surface, I don't really have an issue with this trade because of Boguts numbers. Like I said, he has second round talent but a waiver wire body. He's played a good bulk of the games and his numbers aren't flukey.

BUT...as a competing GM, it's classic sell high. Basa been trying to move depth for a star F for a minute. At least he did it better than Shawn. Magilla's just not keen enough to peep it.

But no worries, I'm not enforcing the trade rule anymore this season. It doesn't exist. I'm just going to point out the shady methods and ridicule the losers when it comes to fruition (Hi Mat!).

I mean, the one crevice in the rule was we didn't protect it from early season slumps or put a minimum games played before a 'STAR' player could be traded so scummy dudes try to exploit it. Personally, I think the MSR was kinda low on the FPPG number too. But eh...

If anybody cares, here's the ACTUAL trade rule in the flesh:

-When trading for STAR players (Defined as guys who, avg at minimum 35+ FPPG, 30+ MPG, and 1.2 FPPM…this is the NEW MSR) a player of at least those minimums must be included the other way in the deal. This also includes Multi player deals. (hot players ruling remains the same...league will vote if stats are off but a guy has been hot for 10-20 games)

-Multi player deals must have an offset of stats (meaning a discrepancy in FPPG must be met the opposite way with a discrepancy in FPPM) and no deal should be outside of 30FPPG or .15 Avg FPPM

-Trades on edge of MSR can be brought up for vote, 5 yay or nay, and if not enough votes, trade passes.

I'm sure in the offseason we will propose and continue to discuss reform to these policies, as it seems the winds of change are swirling about when it comes to trade sentiment.

>Even Ernie who continues to hate my trade said it isnt

I agree, mainly because of 2 things...1)I was sick and didn't have the wherewithal to address it real time and 2) Most of the league was indifferent or actually agreed with letting it ride.

>Nobody sided with you publicly until Basa changed his mind
>that my trade was something that was okay for you to go around
>and change.

I didn't say the trade needed to be vetoed did I? The trade was in poor taste and was in direct conflict with the reason the rule was created which was to prevent 'bad'/lopsided deals that allow top shelf talent to be hoarded (not simply to protect rookies).

You didn't give up top shelf talent to get top shelf talent and there in lies the problem. You weaseled your reasoning based on slow starting numbers before even a fourth of the season was completed while ignoring track record/draft position, etc. and capitalized on OKC's injuries inflating Reggie's stats knowing he doesn't produce regularly at the clip you traded him at.

And had I been healthy, at worst, I would have put the trade up for vote with my framing of the deal and how it mocks the rule and I think you would have lost that vote.

>You were the one trying to make up a rule to go back and
>retroactively veto a deal a week after the fact. Thats some
>made up shit LMAO.

Actually, I wasn't. I said the trade was reviewable because we actually don't have a 'written' rule that says there's a time frame. And had there been more sentiment, I would have put it up for vote.

There wasn't so I didn't.

But in turn, it set a crappy precedent and I no longer wish to manage the rule because the precedent makes it obsolete IMO. And the process by which it became so (with it's own post even) has soured regulation. Sometimes it's better to be a diplomat than a trailblazer.

You won the trade, got what you wanted, that much won't change.

Enjoy it.

I'm gonna point out it's slimey outcomes until I'm done.

To me that delineates that Im cheating or again that there was some type of collusion to make that deal between matty and I - and questions my integrity. Thats when, yes. I will type a 350 word response because thtas some bullshit. I simply took the best deal i had and I hope everyone would do the same.

I dont mind the critiques that someone got ripped off. I made a similar critique of the magilla tjt deal. But never once did I allude to those guys doing something in poor taste or against the morals of the league.

To me that shit aint cool

Im happy to embrace that right today I won the deal. But not by doing some bullshit or canniving. Its a deal that if it were out there for any of you-- I wouldnt disparage.

Warn people off of trading with me because Im a slcik trader. I have no problems with that at all but words like "poor taste" and "slimey" to me say I somehow cheated this leagueand all of you guys, which I will vehemently defend.

the rule. You should know WHY it was created (though you may not given you thought it was only for rookies). See what makes you seem disingenuous is you point out the words 'poor taste' and 'slimey' but skate over these facts:

"The trade was was in direct conflict with the reason the rule was created which was to prevent 'bad'/lopsided deals that allow top shelf talent to be hoarded (not simply to protect rookies).

You didn't give up top shelf talent to get top shelf talent and there in lies the problem. You weaseled your reasoning based on slow starting numbers before even a fourth of the season was completed while ignoring track record/draft position, etc. and capitalized on OKC's injuries inflating Reggie's stats knowing he doesn't produce regularly at the clip you traded him at."

Drummond was drafted #9 for a reason. EVERYONE knew his 1.18 or whatever wasn't where he was gonna finish the season...well everyone except Mat. Reggie and Kantor aren't enough to net Drummond alone based on pedigree NOR the situations surrounding each player. But you skated on the rule because the numbers were juuuust low enough that you could turn into a used car salesman on the reasoning.

Granted it was all legal and simply points to the rule needing development and provision for early season pitfalls but legal doesn't preclude it from being in bad taste/slimey.

You weaseled. You sold high on less than STAR players to buy low on a STAR player, which the rule was (marginally) designed to stop. It gives you a competitive advantage by exploiting a loophole rather than skillfully drafting, trading and GMing. To me that's slimey.

You know...up until, 2009 I believe, prostitution was legal in the state of Rhode Island. As long as you did so indoors. There was an old law against prostitution in the state that said you could not solicit outdoors. Law didn't say anything about indoors though.

So skeevy people exploited the loophole for years. Until the law was changed in 2009. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's not in poor taste. (maybe that isn't the best example depending on which side of the moral compass you sit but you get my drift lol).

Or to skate the rules.

I think shawn tried to make a trade that benefited him AND was still within the written rules. The only 'written' rule that was violated was that shawn did not get enough points/players back, which would make him the loser in the trade by rule.

I personally feel that that is smart trading...if you can find a player who is star value who is currently producing a lower clip, a manager might be willing to deal him for the cheaper value. That's not a violation of the written rules.

But i don't think its right to insinuate that Shawn did something shady, bc I assume that's how most of us who actually have the trade rules in mind operate when looking for a trade.

Was I mad at the trade...sure. Bc had i known matty valued Drummond so low, I woulda made a better offer. But that ain't shawn's fault..that's on me.

make no mistake, #9 for numbers #100+ & 100+ ain't cool no matter the numbers if we haven't even passed the 20 game mark.

The rule wasn't just about the numbers...but that's what it's been reduced to. The rule is also about pedigree and circumstance. We all assumed 'we' as a collective would understand that a trade had to be evaluated from all angles and that guys like Drummond would get traded for similar stature guys. That was the WHOLE reason the rule was made.

I mean by this reasoning...if CP3 and The Brow had 3 bad games to start the season and Aaron Brooks and Anthony Randolph had 3 great games, I could trade for each with no issue.

Would that be fair? In line with what we want the rule to be?

Because if so...we don't need this rule anymore.

In a lot of leagues theres a cant cut list - but this isnt that.

If you got guys who been in a league and know what theyre doing they should be able to trade whatever they want. Again i only want to protect rookies because our league is different than any other bball league. Warren Coolidge would come in this league and trade Kevin Martin for somebody.

There might be a scenario where I want to move a 1st rd pick. i dont wanna be held up for some dumb shit. I traded away a first round pick this year and didnt get one in return which prior to this was unprecedented.

to play.

The rule should be universal. And personally, I don't want to play in a league where a guy can trade fodder for multiple first round guys either.

Just because someone is a vet, doesn't mean that can't make extremely bad decisions that affect the entire league.

I mean even with your draft trade out of the 1st round this year, it was unprecedented and not covered by the rule and frankly, that's scary. But with a draft, if you trade a 1st rounder, you're looking to move up in the subsequent rounds to get higher picks so there's still some trade off of (considerable) value (getting 2 first rounders in exchange for waiting 77 picks to get your 4th guy is a huge sacrifice and Boogs lost it while watching guys leave the board).

But the risk that this backfires has me in the mindset that the first 2 rounds of the draft should probably be regulated too (can only swap those, not trade out of them).

I disagree with this point. We have the most active league on OKP you wanna join play by our rules.

End of the day, I can see your point here though so fine. No rookie rule. But that doesnt stop managers warning rookies on or off the record for possible bad deals. Thats an easy way around that for me.

>

I know you dont really play any other fantasy leagues, but thats how fantasy is man. Its lkike any other league, No move any of us do is in a vaccum it always affects someone good or bad.

You have good managers. You have bad managers. When bad managers make dumb moves they get made fun of as long as guys arent trying to plot some shit.

We literally had a trade in my league between 2 guys who agreed to deals in two different leagues. Now you can see how something like that is clearly cheating. We found out and had to reverse that shit.

Ive had leagues where we assumed but could never prove that someone was giving up a trade in return for getting part of the championship pot. Again you can see how that would be problematic.

I dont think any of teh lopsided trades right today fit that category

Tyson/Wroten
Drummond/ Reggie-Enes
Durant / Bogut, et al.

Theres a clear winner and loser right now. All I can do is play it or go out and get a similar deal.

That's if a rook asks for advice. They still might not get the context of trading Anthony Davis to a team with CP3 to get Monta Ellis and Rudy Gay in return even after advice though.

I'm Commish of THIS league. I don't care how others work. The other leagues I'm in have rules and I abide by them. Some rules are more hardlined than others.

You all wanted this rule, tired of me/people fleecing guys for top tier talent while giving up NO core players. Now you're saying it shouldn't be anymore because YOU want to do it again. Nah fam, not until the rule has been universally changed. Because the minute, I get Blake, CP3, Aldridge and Cousins on the same team without giving up more than 8-9-10th rounders and waiver streak guys...we'll be right back at square 1 with you, theo, boogs and any others whining about it and wanting a RULE in place. I literally won year two by drafting awesome and making one of those type trades (I had Kidd, Garnett, Sheed and traded for Deron...when he was good, got him for peanuts too).

>overegulation

Yeah, until "I" figure out how to work 3 different managers and get 2 first rounders, 2 second rounders and only have to wait 35 picks to get back to the draft. THEN you'll want a rule against trading picks.

This use to be my calling card...or have you forgotten?

I've won with the rule and without so I've proven myself but don't play the convenience game because YOU want to do something now.

If I trade a 1.2 guy for a 1.2 guy I might as well just not trade.
Theres cases where you can get depth and give up a early dtraft pick and still win the trade. I think longo mentioned he wouldve won a trade like that - where we vetoed it his rookie year.

They dont have to ask. Thats why we post on this message board. Maybe they dont listen, but im sure enough of us would be vocal enough that any rookie would be scared as shit to draft.

I dont really care that CP3 gets teamed up with Anthony Davis. Its not about who gets teamed up with who. Or if someone is in first place and gets a good deal.

but likely not sustainable.

Drummond for Reggie who's starting for a few weeks until better players return isn't even handed (even with Kantor thrown in to make it look better). Drummond for Noah or Cuz or Pau or Aldridge or Steph or Westbrook or Rondo is EVEN HANDED.

These guys don't have exact numbers that equal each other. GTFOH with this dude.

Man you dudes are dumb. No wonder ya'll haven't won in ages. You don't trade so a guy gets two 1.5+ players on the same team. It makes filling out the roster much easier and a lot more likely that guy WINS THE WHOLE THING! Let's experiment next fall. Ya'll let me draft CP3 and AD in the first Round. Then I'll wait until round 5 to make my next pick and I'll fill out my roster from rounds 5-12. Let's see how hard it is for me to win.

>Lets see you do it. Cause you invented this type of deal.
>Youre such an innovator. Figure out some new shit.

No, YOU invented this type of deal. I perfected it. Which made a gang of you chumps so jealous we had to have a rule created for it.

>Youre the one whose only pointing at me when theres been 2
>other trades that have been uneven. Again, you keep saying
>it--but if I were on the other side of that deal - i doubt
>your ass would be crying here trying to save me from myself.

There's only been 1 other uneven trade and it DID NOT include a guy drafted in the first 32 picks. Bogut for Durant actually isn't a bad deal, it's just dumb/risky based on Bogut's injury history. Plus Basa gave up WAAAY more productive players to mitigate it. BUT it does skate on the 1st rounder/STAR player understanding (which I DID point out) but since you already set the precedent anyway, there's no need to sweat it.

but you won't admit that in the name of salesmanship.

Which is fine. But if WE peeped, no reason he couldn't.

Anytime the guy you're trading with is bragging about getting a 1st rounder without breaking up his core guys...you already know (c) Smithers.

GMing 101...if you are struggling and you want to get better by selling your best guy, you put out feelers for guys you want (while trying to make sure you get a top 32-40 talent in return who's lesser than your guy but still consistent/reliable AND the depth you crave) and if that doesn't work you put out the bat signal to see what type of offers you can get.

If Bogut was swapped with Pau...homerun (which is what I would have lobbied for if I was magilla negotiating with you).

You can ask for whatever you want but if your team is in Ba's position he has leverage to say no cause his team is good. hes not gonna take a deal just to land a star. He's gonna go to the next guy and make an offer for their star, rinse/repeat til somebody bites.

If nobody bites he keeps his good team.

A team in Magillas spot on the other hand either stays pat with his wack team, or makes some moves to try and climb the ladder. One trade alone probably wont get him there, but his team gets better and if he plays his cards right he can use those assets to climb the ladder again.

Either that or hes stuck doing nothing for 3 months and just watching his team on autopilot.

If I wanted Pau instead of Bogut, I would have altered the deal some and allowed Basa to keep Hill or Scola and replace them with a lesser player or not at all. Pau, Barea, Scola or Hill for Lopez and Durant would still work. Pau is more reliable than Bogut and Durant is more reliable than both. Track record is my leverage. Plus Basa ain't the only game in town for trading.

^^^This is personal accountability. If you whiffed on the draft or your guys get hurt, you don't get so desperate that you give away assets. You still work to get the best deal possible. That involves negotiation, counter offers, playing the field and bat signaling. Magilla nor Mat did all of those otherwise I'm sure they could have found a trade that fitted more in line with what they wanted to do.

If not, be patient, tides turn swiftly in this league. Had Magilla waited a few days and Bogut went down for the month or so he'll be down, he could have revisited the deal with B and maybe got Pau.

I mean, If I got desperate because of 13 L's in a row and wanted to trade Cuz...if I couldn't net the deal I wanted, I'd put him on the block and let the league make their best offers.

This is simple. Ya'll try to make it hard.

which is why i never even thought for a second drummond could be had, however, aand i know i've said this over text, but i wasn't here when the trade rule was made initially, I'd estimate about half the league wasn't either

>That was the WHOLE reason the rule was made.

so its kind of difficult to use this standard for enforcing a rule, that possibly half of the league didn't know was part of the criteria. Especially since we have a very specific written trade rule in place.

And regarding slow/fast starts, the rule gives leeway for hot streaks of 10-20 games. At the point the trade was made, drummond and reggie jackson had had enough games to be considered in that hot streak category. (unlike the 3 game example that you gave)

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

So say if Westbrook went out for the year in January and Reggie's numbers jumped for 15 games, THEN we'd evaluate the trade given his recent production and circumstance (would likely keep the same numbers as Russy isn't coming back to affect them).

But even then, the LEAGUE reviewed it. It wasn't arbitrarily decided on by the traders involved. Which is really my biggest issue with it. Had Shawn took the approach like 'hey, I know it's a star for a non-star and Reggie eating off of temporary injuries. So ya'll let me know if this is cool now or do we need to wait a little longer given it's the start of the season', we could have put it up for vote/discussion and rocked with popular opinion.

His 'nope, within the numbers' shtick with no regard to the grey areas of the rule is the sleazy part of it all.

>so its kind of difficult to use this standard for enforcing a
>rule, that possibly half of the league didn't know was part of

I post the rules every year, multiple times usually as someone asks what the trade or IR rules are. Everyone should have book marked that google site by now. And people use to ask for clarity if something wasn't evident/unclear. I don't buy ignorance at this point. We haven't had a rookie since when, what, Frank/Magilla came back to replace KC and Shelly? And they were returning players...not true rooks. And that's been at least 3 years, they should get it by now (you too).

In response to Reply # 135

If the 1st rounder or 2nd rounder part was that crucial to the rule, it should have been written in. If there should be a 5, 10 game freeze window in the beginning of the season where we are going to use different numbers, that needs to be written into the rule as well.

My comment about half the league not knowing the spirit of the rules referred to the unwritten portions of it, not the written portion thats posted multiple times of a year. That 1st rounder/2nd rounder bit is not written into the rules and I don't remember it ever coming up in any trade discussion/argument over my years here. And we've had multiple adjustments to whatever the original trade rule was. My assumption would be that the current rule is a version of the original rule altered to the best that it could be (which we all voted on) I don't think its reasonable to reflect on what the rule was initially, when there is a current one in place.

We didn't feel the need to micromanage it. We had a group of seasoned guys for the most part so we assumed certain things were 'understood'. MOST of those guys are still in the league. 12 of the 16 current members were in the league when the rule was put in place (including you) and 11 were in the league the year prior. Most of us know how it should operate. This is the FIRST year since the rule that someone tried to trade a first rounder for a non-first rounder.

The first time.

That says to me, everyone understood the rule and used it accordingly.

The rule needs to eliminate the grey areas is all. Which would have been a great OFFSEASON exercise. But challenging the rule on surface numbers some 10-11 odd games into the season with no room for discussion on an appropriate change prior...bad form.

But that is what you are trying to do now. If you(collective you) didn't want to micromanage when creating the rule, you can't micromanage when it comes to enforcement.

you started. It was in place your FIRST season (season 4). 2008-2009 season is when it started (6 yrs ago).

>I thought it was from the first time magilla was in the
>league and made some ridiculous trades that ya'll established
>something. I dont remember that happening while i was here.

That happened the 2 years prior to you (and season 1 with Shawn). Magilla bounced that summer and we created the rule. You weren't here for the design but your first year, you were playing by it's rules which is why you've never offered a 1st rounder to anyone without getting one back.

>But that is what you are trying to do now. If you(collective
>you) didn't want to micromanage when creating the rule, you
>can't micromanage when it comes to enforcement.

I haven't micromanaged it...it's been 6 years and I haven't had to do much with the rule because guys respected it's intent. Again, this is the FIRST year since it was established that a first rounder was traded without one being sent in return.

there was never a smart deal that fit that parameter...not because that was what the rule WAS. lol

So i was there when the rule was in effect(didn't remember), but again the rule has been modified and is pretty specific now. My opinion is that it isn't fair or realistic to try to use a rule from 6 years ago when it has been modified multiple times for a reason.

It feels like you're trying to micromanage it now. For whatever reason it wasn't written into the rule, it shouldn't be the main reason for wanting to veto it. IF the numbers were skewed in shawn's favor and it violated the rule we have in that sense, using the 1st rounder bit would provide more evidence to show that the trade was unfair and should be vetoed.

I think we agree tho going forward, that whatever trade rule we have should try to eliminate any grey areas.

the rule has now changed and Shawn's pig-headed 'this will NOT happen' stance given I detailed how the trade isn't a good precedent and should, at minimum, be discussed.

Had we had a civil 'league' talk about altering the rule and putting it in place from that trade going forward I'd be cool with it.

Now, anyone can make a similar move without issue so long as the numbers work (basa already did).

So if Pat Bev go down for 3 weeks and Cannon beast out for 3 weeks raising his FPPM to 1.23, I'm going to try to trade him for any of the top 20 players along with Jimmy Butler.

And it'll work given the new world order. I couldn't do that without ridicule before the Drummond trade.

What's done is done. I set my measure. I'm sticking with it.

Drummond put up 80+ last night at about 2.0 FPPM. That'll help that 1.31 FPPM he's at. Reggie's last game about .99 and Kanter's was even worse.

Get lambasted...but I don't think that making and enforcing rules so that all trades are as even as can be in the opinion of the league is the way to go. Sometimes bad trades happen. Sometimes trades we think are bad wind up being good. That's a part of the league. I think some some general rules/criteria is a good idea but if managers can't be trusted to manage their team well, i'd rather they not be in the league. And imo, no one here fits that category.

This is just my opinion.

But these wack ass dudes designed a rule to eliminate one of my competitive advantages because I was so good at selling depth to net star players like I was Wilt and trading was the paint.

And as commish I did what was best for the league and rolled with it. I didn't quit or ask for my money back. I mean these dudes bitched soooooh much about my trades.

And now since we've had some space between then and now, I'm supposed to be like "oh cool, now you wanna relegalize my shit? Word!"

Nope, fuck that. I mean...he wasn't even diplomatic about it. Lmao

Ok, let's say you always beat people to the punch for free agents because of your time zone and job hours and we all got pissed and said we need a rule so that other people get a better shot a free agency so the rule is no waiver pickups after business hours east coast time.

Then for 4 seasons no one picked a waiver player after 6pm EST. Then all of a sudden in year 5, Shawn picked up a guy at 730 pm EST and his justification was like 'well we never specified what business time was, some people work late and that rule was only for west coast rookies anyway'.

Would you be like "cool" and roll with it, or would you be petty as hell?

But like I was alluding to earlier, everybody doesn't have that history. Obviously shawn does, and i"m gonna stop speculating on shawn motives bc it's kinda irrelevant in the big picture. My bottom line is rules need to be specific. I personally can't stand unwritten rules. It's part of the reason why baseball is wack lol

BUT, I'M A DURANTRILLAIRE!!! COUNTIN MY POINTS! GETTIN MY PAPER!

shout out to the 2002 BET comicview bamma for inspiring that. that's all i could think of when i learned that bogut was really injured, which i honestly did not know before the trade. me and longo texted a bit yesterday and i slowly realized, "oh, he hurt for real and people gon think i pulled a fast one"...nope. no idea. BUT I'M A DURANTRILLAIRE!!!

see, y'all, this comic view bamma's joke was about how he'd stop caring about anything or anyone if he become a multi-millionaire and money were no longer an issue in his life. he'd sing his millionaire song whenever something tragic happened, because having money would be the priority. for instance, his friend, whose grandmother has been violently attacked and robbed, comes to him for emotional support...

His response (in staccato song):

DAMN! THAT'S MESSED UP!!!

YOUR GRAMAMA GOT BEAT UP BY FIVE. GROWN. ASS. MEN!?!?!

BUT I'M A MILLIONAIRE!!!

COUNTIN' MY MONEY! GETTIN MY PAPER!!!

in summary...that's messed up...but, i got durant.

Honestly, I need G help in the worst way. Monroe was slumping a bit and while he was a huge asset for me, a 1+ GF makes a ton of sense for me to dump him for. Getting rid of T5T was just icing on the cake.

I might regret it later but I really like it right now.

It's a fantasy league, nbd. Just gotta pray Detroit makes a move so Monroe can get more touches or get out of town. And that tony returns to form.

Kanter. 4th season. Zero upside. .98-1.01 4 straight year. Is what he is.

Nerlens. Rookie. Upside. 1.12 last 5. Getting better.

Why is it so hard to just admit you fleeced dude? It's ok. Noone cares.

And both of those guys are class GM's with good teams.

And let's not talk about the monster that is the Elevator division.

And with Weasel McWacktrade still stirring the pot, no way I bump anyone in that division.

So my chances are VERY limited.

You wanna wager?

We've all been dealt some early season injury items to manage. Couple that with playing a lot of games against the best division in the league and it's struggle mode.

I bet we do well in the race warz.

Only team in our division that's really wack is Theo's.

Funny how he's checked out cuz he didn't have his normal stellar draft. Guess some dudes ain't built to do actual work in this league.

Maybe it's time we do a flier for some new blood?

He wont get assists either so he needs blocks and steals
