"CFB Coach Carousel Post 2014-15"

I needed this post bad after reading all of the supposed targets of Florida....

Power 5 vacancies
Kansas
Florida
Nebraska

There's also:
Tulsa
UNLV

But then sadly it looks like UAB will be firing its athletic director then sitting down its football program altogether. Damn.

Am I forgetting any? I'm waiting to add Michigan to this. Dear God I hope they don't fuck that up.

I honestly never thought we'd see an FBS school shut down it's football program again. I know it can be a big money loser for a lot of smaller, urban schools, but it's such a high profile thing to have.

Then taking the cake, this report of Colorado State HC Jim McElwain becoming the leading contender

McElwain was Saban's OC/WR coach for 2 of Alabama's championship runs, but still feels like a head scratcher. Hugh Freeze was reported to already have agreed to take the position but signed a 4 year extension just the other day with Ole Miss.

Jim McElwain's representatives and Colorado State have cleared up the issues surrounding his buyout, and McElwain has agreed to become the next head coach at Florida, sources told ESPN.com.

Barring any last-minute snags, Florida is expected to announce McElwain as the Gators' coach later Thursday.

The deal had been hung up before Thursday morning as Colorado State refused to budge on McElwain's $7.5 million buyout and Florida had refused to pay the entire amount. It is unclear at this point if Florida agreed to pay the full buyout amount of the schools settled on a smaller amount.

McElwain, 52, was in his third season at Colorado State. The Rams (10-2) have won 16 of their last 20 games dating back to last season. That's after losing 27 of 36 games in the three seasons prior to McElwain's arrival in 2012.

He was named Tuesday as the Mountain West Conference's Coach of the Year.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley was looking for somebody with a strong offensive background, and McElwain fits that bill.

The Rams are 13th nationally in total offense (497.8 yards per game) and had the country's second most efficient quarterback in Garrett Grayson, who's thrown 32 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. Colorado State's top receiver, Rashard Higgins, led the country in receiving yards per game (149.1) and receiving touchdowns (17). The Rams scored more than 30 points in eight of their 12 games this season and were one of two Group of 5 teams with two wins over Power 5 teams, defeating Boston College and Colorado.

It didn't take McElwain long to transform Colorado State into an offensive powerhouse. In his second season, the Rams went from 100th nationally in scoring offense to 22nd and from 100th in total offense to 24th.

McElwain replaces Will Muschamp, whose Gators never finished higher than 90th nationally in total offense in his four seasons in Gainesville. Muschamp was fired last month after going just 10-13 over the last two seasons.

McElwain, originally from Montana, tutored first-year starting quarterbacks (Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron) in two of his four seasons at Alabama. The Crimson Tide were known for their offensive balance under McElwain. In his final season at Alabama in 2011, the Tide were the only team in the SEC that averaged more than 200 rushing yards and 200 passing yards per game on their way to what was then Nick Saban's second national championship in Tuscaloosa.

I also recall being impressed by the game plan he had against us in the SEC championship game in 2009.

Urban Meyer came from an MWC school (at least at the time), so there's a track record of this working out for us.

I know I'm taking this slightly out of context, but it still sounds like dude just shitted on Muschamp. Either way, arrogant and hilarious.

I could see the appeal of being able to recruit, given how challenging it is battling the Pac 12 when you are based in Corvallis...

Interesting to see a program like Nebraska have faith in his ability to capitalize on being at a bigtime place...

I have no idea if he could actually lead Nebraska over tOSU or Michigan St., but he has a lot more doormats to feast on in the Big Ten compared to the gauntlet that's the Pac-12 these days.

that's what I'm seeing elsewhere too, the local fan base is finding it underwhelming and wanted Mullen but the national guys seem to be praising it as a good fit

Dennis Dodd @dennisdoddcbs MIke Riley was always squeezing blood out of a tomato in Corvallis. More infrastructure at Neb. Love the hire

David Pollack @davidpollack47 ·Mike Riley consistently won at Oregon State with inferior talent. He developed talent & found under the radar guys. Will do same @ Neb.

35. "Looks like it's David Beaty"
In response to Reply # 27

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11983246/david-beaty-returning-kansas

Kansas is expected to hire Texas A&M receivers coach and recruiting coordinator David Beaty to be the program's next head coach, two sources with knowledge of the hire told ESPN.com on Friday.

Beaty, 44, had two stints as an assistant coach in Lawrence, Kansas, coaching the Jayhawks' wide receivers from 2008-09 before returning for a stint as the co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach in 2011.

The school fired Charlie Weis on Sept. 28, a day after a 23-0 loss to Texas. Weis was in his third season at the school and went 6-22 in his time leading the Jayhawks. Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen served as the interim head coach for the final eight games of the season for the 3-9 Jayhawks.

FoxSports.com earlier reported the news that Beaty landed the job.

Beaty spent the last three seasons in College Station, Texas, as the Aggies' receivers coach and added recruiting coordinator to his title in 2013. He oversaw the development of Mike Evans, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft who is enjoying a standout rookie season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was an All-American in 2013 at Texas A&M.

Known as an ace recruiter, Beaty oversaw the Aggies' recruiting efforts in the talent-rich Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, where he has roots as a high school coach. Beaty coached at four different Metroplex-area high schools from 1994-2005 before joining Todd Graham's staff at Rice in 2006 as the receivers coach. Beaty spent two seasons with the Owls before making his first move to Kansas.

The Jayhawks have struggled mightily in recent years, finishing ninth in the Big 12 this season and going 12-48 since the start of the 2010 season. They're 3-41 in Big 12 play in the last five seasons. The last time Kansas was above .500 and went to a bowl was 2008, which was Beaty's first season as an assistant in Lawrence under then-head coach Mark Mangino.

Beaty quickly emerged as one of the Big 12's top recruiters in his first season at Kansas, landing six recruits in the 2009 class and being named one of the top recruiters in the conference by Rivals.com that season. His roots in Texas will be key for the Jayhawks, who have long recruited the fertile state.

Under Beaty's watch, former Kansas receiver Dezmon Briscoe set the single-season school record for receiving yards (1,407) in 2008, and Kerry Meier became the first and only Jayhawks receiver to catch 100 passes in a season, hauling in 102 in 2009.

This will be the first collegiate head coaching job for Beaty, a native of Garland, Texas. He spent his college playing career at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where he was a four-year starter for the then-NAIA program in the early 1990s.

Via Sportsbooks twitter, a sudden surge in large volume bets from MI area suggests insider knowledge and we have pulled the line.

38. "Gary Andersen leaving Wisconsin for Oregon State"
In response to Reply # 0

Ummmmmm

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-gary-andersen-oregon-state-20141210-story.html

Gary Andersen is leaving Wisconsin after just two seasons to become the coach at Oregon State.

Andersen had a successful tenure, going 19-7, and is said to get along well with athletic director Barry Alvarez.

But an industry source said that Andersen was “not happy” in Madison and that it was “an awkward deal from the start.”

In a statement, Alvarez said: "I began working to find a new head coach as soon as I spoke with Gary this morning. I will find a head coach to uphold the great tradition at Wisconsin, someone who is committed to excellence both on and off the field."

Andersen is from Salt Lake City, played at Utah and had spent nearly all of his coaching career out west before taking the Wisconsin job. His previous head-coaching job was at Utah State, and much of his staff followed him to Madison from there.

Many figured that Utah was Andersen’s dream job and that he would wait to see if Utes coach Kyle Whittingham would depart for another job, perhaps Michigan, before making a move.

But Oregon State, in need of a coach after Mike Riley left for Nebraska, struck quickly.

Before agreeing to hire Andersen, Oregon State reportedly reached out to BYU’s Bronco Mendenhall, Utah State’s Matt Wells, former Michigan coach Brady Hoke and former Cal coach Jeff Tedford.

Andersen’s Badgers won the Big Ten West this season but got throttled 59-0 by Ohio State in the Big Ten title game. Wisconsin will face Auburn in the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl.

Barry Alvarez was a special kind of coach who was never going to leave. It was a garbage program before he got there, and since he left they've lost coaches to Arkansas and Oregon State.

They've got to spend money if they're going to keep a good coach. This isn't the 90's anymore.

1. Wisconsin doesn't pay assistants shit which is what Bielema said and part of the reason he left was because of the turnover, no reason a school with that size of an athletic budget should be miserly if they entertain title thoughts

2. Barry Alvarez's insistence on always having power-running manball as the framework for the offense as long as he is there, GA is a spread guy

Wisconsin should just hire Bo Pelini and complete the circle jerk

I know Malzahn went from high school to Arkansas' OC and Coach Taylor had a half season as an assisstant at TMU, but has anyone gone directly from coaching high school to being in charge of a Division 1 FBS program?

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12013394/unlv-taps-bishop-gorman-high-school-coach-tony-sanchez-take-football-program

LAS VEGAS -- Bishop Gorman High School coach Tony Sanchez is set to take over UNLV's football program.

UNLV said Wednesday that president Donald Snyder and athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy will introduce Sanchez as the coach Thursday. The University of Nevada board of regents is expected to approve the hiring next week.

The 40-year-old Sanchez was 85-5 at Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman, the top-ranked high school team in the country. The Gaels finished 15-0 this season and won their sixth consecutive Nevada state championship Saturday.

Sanchez replaces Bobby Hauck, who announced his resignation in November after compiling a 15-49 record in five seasons at UNLV.

The Rebels were 2-11 overall this year and 1-7 in the Mountain West Conference.

Sam Boyd needed to be retired as the home stadium of the Rebels years ago

Congrats to the coach, Bishop Gorman is a HS powerhouse in the much the same way as Northwestern HS of Miami, South Panola, Mater Dei, Rockhurst of KC, etcetera

maybe he can be a miracle worker and keep some of the talent in the desert?

Chryst's game day coaching has been questionable, this team easily could have had 9 wins this year, we gave games away to Duke, Iowa and UNC.

Part of me hopes that with someone who can take advantage of having one of the best RBs and best WRS in the country we can tighten up the D a little more and compete for a pretty weak ACC next year.

The Pitt realist in me knows that next year we will go 6-6 under new leadership and then rebuild all over.

We need to accept we are not going to get a big name, and rather than getting some B level coach who we know is B level I thin we should take a big risk on an unknown coach and hope he works out.

In reality I'd say the main canidates are probably:

Doc Holiday from Marshall- I'd be good with this
Justin Fuente from Memphis- He goes along with my younger unknown guys and I'd be ok with that
Tom Hermon- OSU O coordinator- Least exciting option to me but this feels like the safe hire.

I have no real reason to believe any of those guys are the top 3 guys, but that's who comes to my mind. I just don't want to see us talking about Cristobal and Tom Bradley again.

We don't have a lot of options for a Pitt guy. At this point I'd be happy with Wannstedt coming back but I think that's never happening, the only other Pitt possibility is Sal Sunseri but you never really hear him discussed in head coaching hires.

The real thing we need to look at here is making a move at AD, it's time for that.

i hope not but it's inevitable. i guess high assistant turnover is expected when you're a good coach. I'm just not used to that bc Tress kept the staff the same for almost a decade.

I know Fickell interviewed last time, I hope he does again.

You know the game, this may not mean much. Although this article makes it seem more of a definitive answer, it sounds like he's just saying Mich hasn't contacted him and that it will not happen, not he would not accept.

Les Miles: Not returning to Michigan
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12034766/les-miles-says-leave-lsu-tigers-coach-michigan-wolverines

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Les Miles will not be the next coach at Michigan. So says Les Miles.

After LSU's Monday evening bowl practice, the Tigers' coach addressed persistent rumors that he will return to his alma mater, where he played under Bo Schembechler and spent a decade as an assistant coach.

Miles refused to be quoted on the record in the post-practice chat with reporters, but he sent a clear message: A return to Ann Arbor is not going to happen. He and his agent, George Bass, have not heard from Michigan, Miles said, and he would not change jobs even if Michigan made contact.

Miles also has told LSU athletic officials that he has not been contacted by Michigan and that he has no intention of leaving the Tigers, LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette said.

Miles is nearing the end of his 10th season at LSU, where he has won two SEC titles and one Bowl Championship Series crown. Miles-to-Michigan rumors have emerged in the past -- most notably late in the 2007 season, when he famously addressed reports on the subject prior to the SEC championship game -- but he has remained at LSU each time the Wolverines have had a coaching vacancy.

Since Michigan fired Brady Hoke on Dec. 2, Miles has shot down questions about a return to the Wolverines, but never as emphatically as he did Monday. After unofficially addressing the Michigan job opening, Miles went on to discuss several subjects related to his current job, including injuries, underclassmen who might become early entries in the 2015 NFL draft and the Tigers' upcoming bowl matchup with Notre Dame.

Miles has some ardent detractors close to the program

Most notably Lloyd Carr, who remembers that Miles (allegedly) fucked Gary Moeller's wife last time he was on staff. Carr's stance is "over his dead body".

Altho for all the help he was to Rich Rod i dont know why anyone would care what Carr thinks.

A lot of it coming from less than reputable sources and most of it is
probably an echo chamber effect. I have my own contacts independent
of these people and they aren't jumping on the optimism bandwagon --
holding steady to what I mentioned in the other thread. A deal was
offered and the waiting game is on.

I'm personally at 50-50 he's coming.

What bothers me is that all the UM writers/rumor mongerers
keep hedging & leave themselves some wiggle room in case Harbaugh
says no. Meanwhile, the NFL writers are unequivocal that he's not
coming to AA.

He's got enough things wrong to make me
skeptical (like saying Harbaugh could have
just come in 2011, when it's been widely
contested that he was even offered by
Brandon). I put more stock in Schefter (a UM
alum who flat out denies UM has a chance) and co.

I am not as optimistic as clowns like Jeff
Moss and Gregg Henson (can't even believe I'm
typing their names) or to a lesser extent, well-
sourced people with heavy conflicts of interest
(Sam Webb and other proprietors of premium content).

Based on what I've read and who I've talked to,
I think this is a straight up 50/50 affair. Which
is a far cry from what NFL writers are saying.

In response to Reply # 0

Lmao, I love this guy.

*buys YSU hoody*

LINCOLN — Bo Pelini became the new head football coach at Youngstown State Wednesday. He didn’t leave Nebraska without expressing disdain for Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst.
Pelini met with players on Dec. 2 at Lincoln North Star High School. In a 30-minute meeting, he provided a window into the strained — almost non-existent — relationship between he and his former boss.

“A guy like (Eichorst) who has no integrity, he doesn’t even understand what a core value is," Pelini told players. "And he hasn’t understood it from the day he got here. I saw it when I first met with the guy.

“To have core values means you have to be about something, you have to represent something, you have to have something that is important to you. He is a f------ lawyer who makes policies. That’s all he’s done since he’s been here is hire people and make policies to cover his own ass.”

The World-Herald on Wednesday listened to an audio tape of Pelini’s address that night. He spoke conversationally, rarely raising his voice. It’s a rare window into the mindset of a coach who increasingly felt besieged by his own administration and fan base.

During the tape, Pelini expresses gratitude, support and advice for players. The majority of the tape, however, reveals Pelini’s thoughts about Eichorst. In the first minute of his talk, he uses two vulgarities associated with female genitalia to describe his former boss.

“I didn't really have any relationship with the A.D.,” Pelini said. “The guy, you guys saw him (Sunday), the guy is a total p----. I mean, he is, and he's a total c---.”

The administration’s lack of support, Pelini told players, wore on him and his family.

“I said to (assistant coach Rick Kaczenski) at one point, I said this job is killing me. I said I don't want to die doing this job. I meant it. I was like, I don't want to have a heart attack on this job.”

Pelini was fired Nov. 30 and was due to receive a $7.9 million buyout, mitigated slightly by his next salary.

On Wednesday, Youngstown State announced Pelini as its head football coach. He’ll return to his hometown and work under President Jim Tressel, who led Youngstown State to four FCS national championships.

During his introductory press conference Wednesday in Ohio, Pelini called Tressel “a president who understands football, who’s going to support me, something I don’t know if I’ve ever had.”

On Dec. 2, Pelini told players he saw anger in administrators’ faces when the Huskers beat Iowa in the regular-season finale. They didn’t want NU to win.

That Sunday, Eichorst called Pelini into his office. Pelini described for players the exchange. After the A.D. informed Pelini he’d been fired, the coach asked if NU was honoring his and his assistants’ contracts. Eichorst said yes.

If Eichorst wasn’t going to support him, Pelini said, a change was for the best.

“He goes, I disagree that I haven't supported you. I said, 'Hey bud, you can't support someone under a f-ing rock.' I said, to do your job at this level, in a place like this, you gotta be a grown-ass f-ing man...to lead something. I said you can't lead anything under a f-ing rock. I said you don't spend any time with us. Our players don't even know who you are. That isn't leadership.

“And he said, 'Well I appreciate (your) advice.'”

“I said, 'I suggest you take it, but see you later.' And that's how it went down.”

Pelini saw it coming. He told Husker players on Dec. 2 that one week before he was fired, he approached two members of the Board of Regents.

“I don't even know what those guys really do. And I said ‘Hey, if (Eichorst) isn't gonna do his job, if he doesn't have the balls to go out there and support me, to support these kids, support this program, do me a favor and get rid of me.’"

Pelini has made no public comments about Nebraska in the 2½ weeks since his termination. Hired by Tom Osborne in 2007, he went 67-27 in seven seasons, reaching three conference championship games, but never winning one.

Pelini told his players that Osborne was forced out of the A.D. role in 2012 and Pelini knew what was “around the corner.”
“I'll put it to you this way,” he said. “It didn't surprise me how it played out.”

“At the end of the day, it’s hard enough to build something. You’ve got to have everybody going in one direction. And it wasn’t. Everybody wasn’t going in the right direction.

“There were agendas and that goes all the way over to the chancellor's office. And between the A.D. and the chancellor and they want their own guy in here, go ahead. Good luck to ya.”
After the Iowa loss in 2013, Pelini told players, he was “trying to press -- I wanted to find out where they stood.”

“And unfortunately all I found out then was that they were p------ and they were gonna do what was politically right.”
Pelini said he never received guidelines stating what he had to do in 2014 to keep his job. Over the past six months, Pelini said, he saw Eichorst “probably a total of seven or eight times for a total of about 20 minutes.”

Pelini said he’d been in the business long enough to know it wasn’t going to work out. He and Eichorst were simply different people.

“I am not somebody who is going to sit there and get along to get along. I am going to speak my mind, and that probably bothered him and the chancellor.”

Pelini referenced a meeting between Eichorst and Husker players the night he was fired, Nov. 30.
“I am sure you guys walked out of there and you’re all smart guys who have been around. I’m sure your gut told you certain things. Trust your gut, because your gut is right.

“Not knowing how it was going to go, when he told me he was going to meet with you guys at 8 p.m., my first thought was, well, that ain’t gonna go real well. Because I knew he wouldn’t handle it the right way.

“I heard he brought security in with him. C’mon man. S--- fellas, look at who he surrounds himself with. Look at his team of people. C’mon, man.

“I’d rather f------ work at McDonald’s than work with some of those guys. Not that there is anything bad about working at McDonald’s.”

Why did he want to meet with players? Pelini said he wasn’t going to “toe the company line.” He wanted to tell players “what went down.”

“Let me tell you fellas and this is for real: If it wasn’t for you guys and for the coaches and for their families, I would have resigned a year ago. Because there was some things that were going on that were making me miserable. And all the money in the world ain’t f------ worth that. And that’s the truth.

“I told those guys and Kaz knows, there were too many people, you guys included, that were counting on me and that would’ve upset the apple cart. I said, you know what, my kids were happy here, I said I could suck it up.

“When I was in coaching, when I was doing the X’s and O’s and game-planning and all those types of things, fellas, I forget about all this stuff.

“But there were times when I wasn’t doing that, when I had to deal with all the other bulls---, let me tell ya, there were a lot of nights that I would just go home and sit on the bed and sit there and think, ‘What the f--- am I doing?’ Is this worth it? I felt like it was taking years off my life.”

Tell me if I’m wrong, Pelini told players, but the environment at Nebraska wore on you as the past several seasons progressed. It gets harder and harder and harder.

“It is a b---- here. It is hard enough when you have the negativity that comes from the media and the negativity from a lot of former players, this talk show and that talk show, you win and it ain’t good enough. It’s not good enough how you won. There is a lot of things that go on there and if you don’t have a grown man staying in front of the thing and getting everybody, rallying, I can do all I want, but they’re b----ing at me, too....

“It was never more evident than the Wisconsin game. I thought you guys were more mentally beat in that game than we got physically beat. It’s a culmination of the negativity. I understand, you guys are human. That is why I was constantly talking to you guys about it.

“In the last game, you guys just said f--- it, let’s go play. Despite all the injuries and everything else we had dealt with, you guys at least played free. That is my advice to you guys that come back. You can’t let this place eat you up, because if you let it, it will eat you up.

“I have been at LSU, I have been at Oklahoma, I have been to these other places. The scrutiny, it negativity, it ain’t like that everywhere. But it is what it is and you gotta be strong as hell and you gotta stick together to deal with it. You have to. Because it’s real, I know it’s out there. I’ve seen it.”

Football is not a job, Pelini said, and these years are supposed to be the best of your lives.

“If any of you guys have on your mind, hey, should I go or should I stay? At the end of the day, you gotta sit there and think, ‘This is how many years I got left. These ought to be the best of my life. And if I don’t think it’s going to be this way this place, then you shouldn’t stay. But if you feel like, hey, this is the place for me, this is the place I’m going to enjoy my career, then you should stay. That’s what it should come down to.”

The audio tape concludes with Pelini restating his support for the players. You’re always free to call or text me, he said. I’ll be there for you.

“Appreciate you fellas, OK? Appreciate you guys coming out and love you, OK? Thanks, fellas. Appreciate it.”

..as you'd expect...

Still cant believe they settled for Mike Riley.

They should have gone after an up and coming coordinator imo...

The complete statement:
The University of Nebraska is in receipt of what appears to be a transcript of remarks delivered by former football coach Bo Pelini. These remarks to student-athletes were allegedly made during a non-official team meeting at a local high school, held two days after his termination. At this time, the University cannot authenticate the transcript nor do we have an audio version of the remarks.

If these comments were, indeed, spoken by Mr. Pelini, we are extremely disappointed, but it only reaffirms the decision that he should no longer be a leader of young men at Nebraska.

His habitual use of inappropriate language, and his personal and professional attacks on administrators, are antithetical to the values of our university. His behavior is consistent with a pattern of unprofessional, disrespectful behavior directed by Mr. Pelini toward the passionate fans of Nebraska, employees of the university and, most concerning, our student-athletes.

This behavior is not tolerated at the University of Nebraska and, among many other concerns, played a role in his dismissal.
Any assertions that the campus or athletics administration was not supportive of our student-athletes and our football program are flat-out false and are contradicted by the facts.

We are grateful that the new leadership in our football program is aligned with our values and will establish that you can be successful at Nebraska and that you can do it with integrity and class.

plus, what does it say that a current player recorded this and leaked it to the press?

All the 'Husker fans understood why the team was so emotionally fragile when adversity struck on the football field

their coach was too

I'm more upset over losing Kendall Bussey to Texas A&M

NFL writers are now reporting the $48mm/6 yr deal.

I told you guys there was a "very interesting" financial package on the
table for Jim in the UM coaching thread last week. Looks like my sources
(mega donors) were right. That's all the info I got, though. No idea
as to Jim's thoughts/inclinations on accepting the package.

BTW: I was told there might be even more money in a "stay" clause.

certainly not harbaugh...great coach, yes. but not worth all this.

this is pryor part 2 multiplied by 1000.

if your program is in make or break mode over a coach/recruit then you're going to bust regardless.

but i get it, theres not much else to talk about and that's going to exponentially fan the flames.

I enjoy the rumor mongering, and in this case, being somewhat exposed
to the inner workings of the deal. Honestly, what has been lost in all this
is how perfectly executed the search has been.

Harbaugh is our number 1 target. The number 2-x targets are all still
available, save Patterson who was not coming anyways. Now if Harbaugh
is still diddling over this offer while Mullen, Stoops, et. al. get extensions
that is a different story.

Another thing to keep an eye on is that Tom Herman does not start at
Houston until after the Playoff. His contract is for a $1m. We could throw
3-4 at him and make him compromise whatever moral obligation he has
to UH. No one would blame him, either. Honestly, he's my best plan B
option.

^ That Herman idea was postulated by Brian Cook.

*When it comes down to it, I feel like this is my version of my GF reading
her celebrity gossip magazines. Compelling, useless, and in the end --
harmless.

if harbaugh doesn't work out.

Herman would make no sense. it's not realistic and mich should be able to do better.

maybe herman becomes a great HC in time but he's currently unproven and took the houston gig as he had no other P5 offers.

Established head coach, with a history of success, who knows the lay of the land in the Big Ten

inking Greg Schiano is not going to move the needle at a place that's getting darts from all over, not what it once was due to shifting demographics, dysfunctional leadership, only one natty in recent history, is the job any better than Wisky, Michigan State, or Nebraska even....all that stuff is out there

I applaud the efforts, cleans out a lot of the negativity in Ann Arbor as most everyone think it would be a great hire

Pressure to perform sure, but it would show some Big Ten teams are willing to compete with the idolatry of the SEC where it counts the most, dollars

Urban the Pontiff, Harbaugh, Dantonio.....sounds good to me

Michigan flexing financial muscle is good for the league, although as a Nebraska fan I'm glad we are in the West

In response to Reply # 0

He survived forever and has basically been terrible everywhere he went. Oversaw Callahan hiring at Nebraska and the entire terrible coaching spell of the last few years at Pitt.

Word on the street is Pitt is looking to go big with the hire and stop this trend of underpaying coaches and watching them walk quickly.

A source was quoted as saying no assitants only head coaches. There is some talk of Dan Mullins and ponying up whatever it takes to get him because he has PA roots and so does his wife, but that seems like just pipe dreams, I don't think there is a big splash hire out there we can get even if we open up the checkbook.

If he can get the D playing to a moderately good level and not screw up the offense Pitt has a serious shot to get to the ACC title game in a pretty weak ACC conference next year.

That's a big if, and everything about Pitt's history says it won't happen, but a D improvement is exactly what we need while we have Connor and Boyd on the team.
