i'm in the muller's likely to win, i'd rather see neuer camp.

messi or ronaldo would be mistakes. performance in the FIFA world competition matters a lot for the FIFA award and ronaldo's team didn't even get out of group stages. meanwhile, the spanish team's best player was probably Iker (shades of neuer getting screwed), iniesta was 3rd best player for his club, and xavi doesn't put up stats. and iniesta and xavi split their votes while iker got shit for votes because, GK.

ronaldo's best chance is for muller and lahm to split votes, but lahm's not gonna get the votes, i don't think. goetze's definitely not getting the votes.

i think you think you were clever with the 2010 reference, but it's a shallow analysis. and the results got shat on for how much people thought it should have gone to someone who went further in the world cup, so expect a german to win it even more than normally.

I did some digging, and realized I forgot they enforced a 'euro only' criterion before 1995, which is why Igor Belanov got it in 1986, for instance, or Stoichkov in 1994. But in years where a European nation won, the only time they gave it to a non WC winner was Cruyjff in 74 (he made the final).

so, 1974/2010, that's 2 times only, with a finalist and a quarter-finalist...thus I wouldn't bet on your boy too tough. I'm not sure why you think Muller is undeserving of the top 3 either, he had a monster WC, along with a pretty solid club year to say the least. For reference, Paolo Rossi got it in 82, and if memory serves, he barely made the Italian squad (meaning his club year was a non factor). Ronaldo played next to no club futbol in 2002 and won it as well.

it's whatever though, ultimately the Ballon d'Or doesn't matter that much...for the record, I do think Cristiano is a better player than Muller, I'm just trying to prepare you mentally, so that you don't cry too hard when he gets spurned yet again.

it won't be right, not by a country mile, but in world cup years these things tend to be pretty straightforward. Especially since boogerman does have a relatively strong claim as far as adjusting his tactics and crafting a great team after facing lots of doubters post-Euro 2012.
