So you're saying if people like one QB they automatically think the other is a bust? You're logic is very flawed.

andrew luck and bob griffin were two highly touted QBs in the same draft class. OKS loved them some robert griffin, particularly the SEC-B1G >>>>> PAC12 contingent.

>who are you again?

And I was here two years ago as well. We have these things called "archives" here. If a topic gains enough steam, you should be able to
find some reference to it in the archives. Maybe you should give it a shot.
In any case it's low class to celebrate or gloat about a rival QB's injury (and he's not even really a rival to you if you roll with Indy). It's all about the actual competition on the field, there's plenty of room to talk about how Luck OUTPLAYED RGIII last season if you're invested in a "who was the better pick" battle. But instead you're the first reply to a troll post regarding dude getting injured.

We definitely have to see how this season plays out with Cousins.

If he's successful, i.e. we win, get into the playoffs, division crown, etc... There is a case that HE is the quarterback.

Robert has essentially taken himself out of the competition. The storyline is he can't stay on the field, and he can't wrap his mind around the fact that you can't play that reckless style in the NFL. You can tell in the way he would talk about running, and buying into idea that he can be successful playing that way. No you can't because your career will be shortened. Defenders want your head on every play, and if you give them the opportunity they will take it EVERY time.

You can argue that the injury today was his fault with him running that play all the way over to the sideline. That pass attempt was crazy off-balance and awkward. If he doesn't get hurt like that, he would've gotten blasted by the defender.

If Cousins plays well, I see no obligation to insert Griffin back at starter whenever he recovers from this injury.

It's a shame too, because I really wanted to see him succeed

...

my thoughts,

peace.

I mean, the thing about today's injury was that it was nothing but bad luck.

he didn't even get hit, he was just rolling out. same as when he re-injured it in the playoffs vs Seattle.

he wasn't being reckless at all.

They more often have to do with bad movement patterns and faulty mechanics, or overuse. The structural integrity of your body is lacking or compromised.

That isn't to say that these non contact injuries can't happen to someone who has good mechanics, especially in a game like football where contact on a previous play or just general wear and tear accumulate, but when an athlete has a pattern of injury from seemingly innocuous activity, something is probably structurally unsound.

Super explosive + bad movement(I think a lot of us saw his vert jump from the combine and his knees basically caved in so far they touched, which is HORRIBLE) is just a recipe for injury.

If you see him walk, you'll see he's got this weird gait.... A bit pigeon toed and something else I can't put my finger on. It's a wonder he's so fast but I guess he learned to compensate. Some structural issues may explainwhy he lacks the lateral elusiveness of Kapernick and Wilson... And why he's been adamant about become a pocket passer.

>he wasn't being reckless at all.

Not "reckless" as in running down the field and not sliding/sliding correctly.

More like stringing that play out toward the sideline, instead of getting rid of the ball sooner, and just generally getting the ball out of his hands, before he puts himself at more of a risk.

Like I mentioned, if it wasn't something like the freak ankle injury, he would gotten blasted by the defender as he got rid of the ball late. The sideline doesn't really protect you as a quarterback. You can get seriously fucked up trying walk that line and get out before getting hit. Defenders want to make you pay for challenging them like that. I don't think he really gets that. Quarterbacks should not be putting themselves in harm's way.

Thus, I meant "reckless" attitude.

...

my thoughts,

peace.

are better off with a guy who will run that offense, is better at short timing throws, isn't wildly unpredictable or someone that you're trying to bring back to life on the fly and there won't be the soap opera with the owner/coach/RG3 dynamic that has basically hijacked the talk on this franchise since the playoff game his rookie year.

They've got more than enough weapons to rally around Cousins if he's in there due to injury with a new coach rather than in there because Shanny is at war with the owner at the end of a lost season.

Haven't heard Desean's status but in the short term at QB this situation helps more than hurts.

There's weapons here now- Garçon, Roberts, Desean if healthy, a stellar running game, an all-pro left tackle in Trent Williams. Skins are every bit as talented as the Bengals are on offense, and all Cousins has to do is just not suck and I think there's potential to be pretty good.

Sure he played Jacksonville, but he threw with precision and poise - a poise that has eluded Griffin often.

Skins invested too much to eject now
And cousins can potentially get them a 2nd
Or even a 1st if this shit is real (which I doubt)

Best case scenario cousins gets moved after season
For a pick
And skins draft a qb next year
Rg still starts but he is looking over his shoulder big time

I don't see a scenario where cousins just gets the keys
And rg is sat down

I don't get *skins fans and the love affair they have with Cousins. They conveniently forgot how Bob breathed life into a franchise that was in the dumpster.

These cats on 980 are already coppin' please for if Cousins doesn't play well. They're already saying Cousins is the man next year and now they're trashing RGIII.

Honestly, I hope RGIII gets traded. I cannot take the character assassination. I can think of plenty of teams that could use him.

part of it is his fault cuz he allowed himself to be overexposed.

but dude carried them in 2012 and had arguably the best rookie QB season in history.

His off the field stuff is annoying, but on the field he WAS legit. Can't say he IS still a game changer when he is unable to stay healthy and fulfill his potential.

Ironically, all the commercials that have folks hating him have provided him with the money to survive what appears to be a less lucrative on field career.

The combination of the injury history, contract terms due to draft position, lack of recent success and maybe biggest the fact that he cost the organization three first-rounders and a second plus won the power struggle with the coach so they couldn't cut bait this early without taking a huge L.

It was never really about Cousins, it was about RG3 and whether he was succeeding or at any given moment.

Cousins isn't even at '89 Steve Walsh clout status while RG3 has had more juice than Troy Aikman ever did in his early career.

If Kirk Cousins being on the roster and local talk-radio heat is doing irreparable damage to RG3's performance, then he ain't the savior he looked to be early anyway (it'd been cool if the Skins actually groomed him for the long-term from jump too but I know y'all got sick of hearing me talk about it two years ago so I'll leave it alone).

Cousins simply gives them a guy making peanuts who can passably start for you if/when RG3 next goes down.

That's worth more than the draft pick they've been trying to receive for him.

He could maybe get an extension should he ball out this year but it won't be for anything approaching 'franchise' QB money.

Teams are more cautious after all those bum QBs Andy Reid unloaded at a premium in trades last decade plus they're more willing to roll dice on a QB project in the draft now that it's capped/slotted.

Cousins is actually a hyper-talented career underachiever
with a massive upside, who might be figuring it out

RG3 has a tremendous athletic upside, but as a passer was
polished, super accurate. RG3 is actually a neck up passer
more than a neck down passer.

So all this "Cousins has no upside" shit is dead wrong

Lol @ Andy Dalton comparisons...Dalton is a super OVERachiever

Cousins has Andrew Luck-grade upside (he'll never be that
good)....definitely Matt Ryan grade though

RG3 projects to being a solid/good passer (maybe Matt hasselbeck,
a touch better) but with speed

Thats its...hes just a guy.

He was just a guy coming out of Holland Christian

He was just a guy at MSU

And hes just a guy now.

Not bad, but he'll never be better than that. He is not hypertalented, and has never been thought of that way.

His standout skill is his ability to accept coaching. That will keep him around in the NFL for a while, but also means he will never be someone that needs to be gameplanned around.

In response to Reply # 84

Foles and a local dual threat QB named Keith Nichol were MSU's QB commits for class of 07 when John L Smith got fired. Nichol flipped to Oklahoma after that, couldnt beat out Sam Bradford, and ended up transferring back to MSU. He competed with Cousins, switched to WR and earned a place in their lore by catchimg a Hail Mary to beat #6 Wisconsin. After Nichol transferred Dantonio signed Cousins as a late depth fill-in.

Foles is a better natural athlete with a better arm, but Cousins' preparation habits entrenched him as the heir to Brian Hoyer and Foles ended up transferring to Arizona.

Foles is likely going to never be more than just a guy despite having a lot of ability. But Chip saw a lot of him so he must have seen something he liked. You put Cousins' intangibles into Foles' body and you'd have a real nice QB.

with a performance worthy of said QB...

I can say, there was never a moment where Vick was that bad

I can also say, comparing Cousins to Foles and Romo were mistakes

Cousins is definitely "Andy Dalton" ceiling; that is to say, the pre-RG3 status quo

at this point I feel lightweight bad for the Washington Football fans, their QBs get run into the ground worse than even the Cleveland Browns and pre-Flacco Ravens do

He has looked pretty damn impressive in spurts. Yesterday he threw the equivalent of a perfect game in the first half. But the 2nd half was a much different story. Unlike Foles, he really had a clean pocket to work with all game long. WRs were open and he was missing them badly in the 4th quarter. It definitely looked like he was rattled at the end.

But yeah, yesterday he was great for the most part. However, he had some very mediocre games just last year so it seems crazy that many people are ready to anoint him when his total body of work isn't all that impressive.

Quicker decision maker? Certainly

Better leader? Potentially but the team isn't familiar with his limits yet... right now, the grass is greener in Kirks lawn but there may still be crab grass people haven't noticed.

Better decision maker? Nah, they're about even. Kirk reads the field better but throws interceptions at a higher rate.

Better arm? Nope.

More accurate passer? Nope.

Better playmaker? Nope... he hasn't made a decisive play when it counts yet. Sunday was a prime oportunity.

Kirk is looking very good though and I hope he only gets better for the sake of the team. That doesn't take anything away from Bob's accomplishments though.

All the other throws, as in, the ones that a quarterback
needs to consistently make to be good?

You mean like completions to the opposing team or to nobody in crunch time?

The whole idea that Kirk "Runs the offense better" is under further review at this point.

I want him to do well, as my team's starting QB, but I've seen enough QB's like him to know his ceiling isn't particularly inspiring.

This is veeerrry similar to that Kolb stretch. It will be interesting to watch his continued development though. These first few games were a great way to ease him into the flow of things, especially against the Jags, but we'll see what's what when they go up against the Seahawks defense in a couple weeks.

NFC East fans everywhere want that Washington football team to start Kirk forever.

You mean to tell me Kirk isn't as good as RG3? But, but, but, Kirk is a traditional QB and understands the nuances of the position including the proper way to play catch with opposing DBs.

>Look forward to the subway commercials from your wheelchair.
>Kirk Cousins era has begun.

The source is PFT:

Brian Mitchell, who played in Washington for 10 seasons and is now a commentator, said on Comcast SportsNet’s post-game show that benching Cousins would make a lot of sense right now.

“I think we have to hold Kirk to the same standard we held Robert to. And if Kirk Cousins can’t get the job done, then there’s another quarterback sitting there,” Mitchell said, via Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “Colt McCoy is the next guy out there. I don’t see what the problem would be.

I get the reason behind keeping him and maybe he could turn into a serviceable starter at some point. However, right now he looks like shit. What's Joe Theismann's take now? He was the guy that started the Kirk outplayed RG3 in the preseason talk, so what's his take now?

The only issue is that, if Cousins shits the bed again, they are stupidly considering rushing RGIII back which hasn't worked well in the past. I think they are simply hoping that Cousins can be a game manager and let RGIII get more rest.

in my eyes, just being a game manager is not going to win this team
games. the goal was to show off his skills to disprove doubters and
so far shit hasn't panned out. he looks pretty fucking mediocre but,
maybe he can turn it around. if he can't put up a good performance
against the titans, he might be done.

that shit that theisman said was some vitriol garbage and wasn't
needed.

i hate to say it but, i would prefer that rgiii go to another team
sooner rather than later.
