It's a shame it wasn't implemented before this year.

every play, counting on the refs to swallow their whistles on most of them. It's smart strategy if they aren't going to call it.

^^^^^^but this has been so fucking true so far^^^^^^

on the bright side (i guess) at the end of the preseason they are supposed to sit down and review all the PI and holding calls from the DBs and see which were good calls or not and sort of tweak how they call it.

Defenses had just reached a level of parity with these high powered offenses and the second Peyton gets neutered they change the rule. If you can't beat the LOB you CRY LIKE A WHINY CHILID FOR A RULE CHANGE.

I want to face the LOB at full power without help from the refs.

However, the Broncos were whining about the loss afterwards.

IMHO, this is whing for no reason. The Patriots held the Colts to get to a Super Bowl. THAT demanded a rule change. This is designed to screw Seattle. People are MAD AS SHIT Russell Wilson won a Super Bowl before Andrew Luck.

No empathy for white misery (c) BDot

I couldn't be in more disagreement

have you watched (or should I say, tried to watch) any preseason games

SHIT'S TORTURE

with all of the rule changes since this douche came into the league

now add, hands to the face and contact past 5 yards as points of emphasis

and the average penalties per game is 18? right now

with automatic challenges on scoring plays, turnovers, and challenges

yeah, this dude is ruining football*

watching the other day, clapping to a good defensive play

FLAG!

it's to the point now where they're penalizing Ds for trying too hard

and will just penalize you until you LET the other team score

*I get what he was trying to do with the personal conduct policy and player safety issues

personally, I think he should have stayed out of the personal conduct stuff, and let the law handle legal issues, and stuck to PED/Substance penalties

targeting the head, I believe always was against the rules

but now, again, good hits are penalties

could just put waivers in contracts that notified players of the danger of playing in the NFL and that they asssumed responsiblity for injuries, etc...

---------------------------------------------------------------

If you can't understand it without an explanation

you can't understand it with an explanation

Nah I was talkin to Stew but you wanted to reply to me w/ some dumb shit as usual. Figured I'd try to get your focus back on track w/ your squad where it should be...as is mine.

We gonna do this everytime?

He specifically called out the Seahawks w/ this rule that affects all teams. Let him speak up for himself if he has a problem w/ it & mind your own business. It'll help your blood pressure. Seems like you got it boiling on your own accord.

I don't actually root for a team that has the capability of doing anything remotely resembling NFL defensive back play on the regular

You're so caught up in having a chip on your shoulder that you can't even read straight. Any Eagles fan who was alive for the Troy Vincent-Bobby Taylor-Al Harris years shouldn't have too much of a problem with how the Seahawks corners play(ed?).

If you happened to actually read, you'd realize that the Seahawks secondary reminds me of the early 2000's Troy Vincent-Bobby Taylor-Al Harris-B Dawk, physical man to man press secondary...I love that style. The only issue I have with the Seahawks is that whenever they play I'm painfully reminded that Reid moved up in the draft to select perrenial depth lineman Brandon Graham rather than perennial all-pro Earl Thomas. The costco sized salt in the wound: we haven't found a consistently serviceable safety since.

To go a little deeper, Pete Carrol's holistic and proactive approach to player health and organizational culture/management is one of the reasons I forewent my Harvard B-school admission in order to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy; eventually hoping to scale that holistic approach on a healthcare platform for the greater public. To sum: I have a great affinity for Pete Carrol and how the Seahawks treat their players and employees.

Seattle gets away with downfield interference because they're a great defense and have the reputation as such. same way Peyton gets away with a million false start audibles a season (remember the "emphasis" on that? right), elite receivers can push off with their forearms on literally every jump ball, elite left tackles rarely get holding calls against them and elite running backs can facemask defenders.

Ballcarriers facemasking defenders has been legal the whole time I have been watching football. Not sure that is a good example.

Nothing the Seahawks do is that egregious. I see no reason to make passing the ball even easier in the NFL. There is a tipping point for everything, and when the average NFL game is 60-48, I think that might be it.

which is very liberally applied when a running back stiff-arms. the act of a stiff arm simply making contact with the mask is legal, but there is a hell of a lot more leeway on the offensive side than vice versa.

eta: you're right tho, since everybody gets that same leeway on offense.

As a niners fan, this shit affects us negatively too. Our linebackers are very physical with pass catchers between the hashes and while we do not have the secondary that Seattle has, we clearly hang our hat on being able to move guys where we want them. I'm not worried about them being more strict about anything. Seattle is beatable for us regardless.

Doing it is a different story seeing as we didn't when it counted but I'm sure you get what's being said.

In response to Reply # 47

i say that only because on Friday one of our DBs played great coverage and had 105 yard pick-6 called back for illegal contact.

the Seahawks already heard back from the league that the refs got the call wrong AND that if it was the regular season that wouldn't have been called.

now, does that mean the refs won't get it wrong in the regular season? i don't think anyone can say that...so the feeling everyone seemed to get (seahawks coaches included per their interviews) was that it won't be such a touchy rule once the season starts.
