>why is Linares fighting an 8 rounder? Wasn't he supposed to >be something special, once upon a time?
Yea he was. I'm still big on Linares mainly because I love his style. Sign me up for his fights all day but unfortunately it appears he'll never pan out as an elite, top-tier fighter, even though once upon a time he certainly looked like one (until Demarco cracked his shell).

At least it was good to see him come back & put on a solid performance after an 18 month layoff. Dirrell & Ward are somewhat wasting their precious primes w/ those long layoff.

And although the scores of the fight didn't show well for him, Bika gave Andre Ward the best fight of anyone during the time frame of the super middleweight tournament imo.

Those counters were on the money. Porter could never get into a rhythm....either a jab or left hook was catching him on the way in or he was getting smothered.

looks legit enough the way he handled porter would like to see him fight some of the other top WWs now porter didn't seem nearly as strong as he has recently if he can't bully an opponent it's going to be a struggle for him it seems

i was watching mayfield vs. taylor on youtube in anticipation for the broner matchup when i realized i may have been remembering karim mayfield fights whilst thinking about porter this whole time

... after seeing him live at the Hopkins card. He's still a good fighter, but he'll have to fight smarter and more technical if he wants to continue to compete with the elite in that division.

The better fighter won. It was my first time seeing Brook fight but he established himself as the better boxer in the first round. He was physically strong enough to either tie Porter up on the inside or withstand his onslaught and come back with sharp counters. I thought he hurt Porter several times in the fight and it started at the end of the first round. He clearly won the fight on landing the clear effective shots.
Now who does Brook fight next?
Amir Khan - Risky but also the most profitable he can make outside of Mayweather or Pacquiao. Possibly a PPV fight.
Keith Thurman - Possibly even more risky and not nearly as much money in the fight. Keith Thurman will not get a title shot unless he is someones mandatory, the tile becomes vacant, or he goes up to 154.
Danny Garcia - Less risky than Khan or Thurman, more profitable than Thurman.
I was surprised that Brook mentioned Thurman by name without being asked directly about him. When questioned about Khan, he seemed like he was on some he has to get in line like everybody else, he is the man now. I'm thinking it will be someone like Danny Garcia. I don't see him taking too much of a risk in his first tile defense but seems confident in his abilities that he is ready to seek a legitimate challenger.

a little more holding than i would like but still pretty entertaining. lots of things were going on in that fight. i was pretty impressed with brook, he definitely deserved that win.
