"Wrestling Post: Going Home into Summerfest"

Current card ain't bad at all, but it seems like so many of us are afraid of booking shenanigans...

WWE World Heavyweight Championship:
-John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

WWE Divas Championship:
-AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

WWE Intercontinental Championship:
-The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Flag Match:
-Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

Lumberjack Match:
-Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

-Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

-Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are banned from ringside)

-Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

You have to figure something will get added for the Usos to get on the preshow at least. Dean Ambrose selecting a lumberjack match is bad, but we'll see how it goes. Miz vs Zig is your 'steal the show' match. It would be cool if Reigns really came out of this Orton match looking great. Otherwise, they might REALLY slow-play his rise.

I can't decide whether I'm more afraid of a Cena win or a Brock win where he still can't be bothered to show up and do stuff. Yeah...Cena win.

I figured it would have been cage, but perhaps there's a specific idea to it. Maybe HHH will surround the ring with solely heel wrestlers for example(?)

Like what WCW was running with in the 90s. A true midcard title defended weekly on TV. Quick, 10-minute time limit matches. It gives every show a meaningful match, frequent title changes would be welcomed, and it would allow them to give longer, better reigns to the bigger titles without worrying about having all of the same champions all the time. It would also give the midcarders like Fandango and Bo something they could legitimately attain, as well as throw some other bigger name guys in the mix (the Sheamuses, Dolphs, etc) to give the title a little bit more legitimacy and the midcarders a rub.

Because really, what IS the difference between the IC and US title? Even when the WWF had the IC and Euro titles, the Euro title was initially a title the was to only be defended in Europe, until it eventually became the lower midcard title.

My ideal world, which would never happen, would be more emphasis on EARNING a World Title shot, with less frequent tile matches (only the big PPVs really). IC title defended every month, TV title defended weekly. Make the bigger title's matches mean something, not just "I pick you to have the next WWE Title shot, and then the 2 PPVs after that where we recycle the same match with diff stipulations and rematch contracts"

I had actually forgotten about the TV title stipulations - you're right, it would make a real exciting addition to Raw.

I guess the US and IC titles made sense when they were each specific to separate shows which isn't really the case any more. I don't really have a problem with the titles co-existing, I just dislike titles not being used - Ambrose wore the US title for like 5 months and never defended it which is pointless. Use them or lose them.

You talk about 'earning' title matches which is a really interesting point - also interesting to note how quickly things happen in wrestling nowadays compared to the 90s. Can you believe Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were active WWF wrestlers for like 7/8 years before they won their first Heavyweight title?! People are already chomping for Reigns to get the Gold but he's a relative rookie compared to back then. (Not a comment meant with any disrespect at all - just saying with such an increased level of TV programming (plus 12 PPVs a year as opposed to just 4), things happen so much quicker.)

Between 3 hours of Raw, 2 hours of SmackDown and then Superstars, Main Event, etc... there is between 3 to 5 times as much wrestling every week as there was in the early, mid and late 90s.

You mention Bret and Shawn. How many times in their prime did they fight each other? Twice. WM12 and Survivor Series 97. How many times have we seen Cena and Orton? They fought each other 3 PPVs IN A ROW alone a few years ago.

Here are some things WWE should think about doing:
1) Put the god damn belt on Lesnar and let him walk away for a few months. Lets see the WWE roster try and EARN the opportunity to challenge for the belt. And at the next BIG PPV (Survivor Series), have Brock defend against a WORTHY challenger.
2) Keep this trend up. The World Title doesn't have to be defended every PPV. Defend it at the big ones. Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Money in the Bank, Summerslam, Survivor Series. Use the rest of the PPVs to throw the champion in tag matches, grudge matches, etc.
3) Have the IC Title be defended monthly at PPVs, then use a TV title for weekly title matches on Raw.
4) EMBRACE part time workers. Guys like Brock fighting 3-5 times a year makes it SPECIAL when they fight, and it prevents repetitive matches being recycled over and over. Summerslam is going to be fun BECAUSE Brock barely fights. We saw Brock/Cena already, a few times, but the most recent time was 2 and a half years ago. It SHOULD be a year minimum between two of the biggest names in the company fighting. Had we already seen Cena/Brock a dozen times nobody would give a shit about the main event next week.
5) And just so there's "something to win" while the World Title is gaining back some prestige and meaning and not being shuffled back and forth and defended in matches where the outcome is predictable, bring back stuff like King of the Ring, have a Euro Cup, shit like that. Hell, do something like TNA did with their Bound for Glory series. Take 10 great technicians, have them fight each other a few times each over the next 6 months, earning points for pinfalls, submissions and losing points for losses, DQs, etc, and at the end crown a tourny champion. All of a sudden you have one of two of these matches every week on Raw and you have a few matches that mean something every week without needing a title belt or prolonged rivalry.
5b) How about a NXT tournamet like the one I described above where the winner gets a spot on the main roster. Have a few of these matches on Raw to showcase the NXT talent along the way.

(IT should be noted that WWE will never do any of these things)

when Cena was in the process of becoming "Cena", he was feuding with Brock Lesnar. and at the time the idea was that it was supposed to be ridiculous, that a dude so bad he could beat down the Undertaker and be the WWE's own "Goldberg" was so far above a heel like Cena.

even his finisher is derived (on screen) from Lesnar's finisher. they'll never acknowledge that, but it would be cool.

so I'm definitely down with this.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

it's weird. it feels like they mostly have the major storylines booked far in advance (nearly set in stone too far in advance), but on the week-to-week stuff they are completely lost and making shit up on the fly. as a result, half of raw is terrible, smackdown is totally useless, but the PPVs have been pretty good. it's the exact opposite of where i thought they'd be when the network started and they were trying to get a good TV deal. their answer for every problem is to freak out and make immediate changes rather than offer some consistency to see if they can build an audience.

>Here are some things WWE should think about doing:

Not sure how I feel about this. This would be entertaining, I just think it would be tough to sell PPV tickets/the network if the title isn't being defended regularly.

>3) Have the IC Title be defended monthly at PPVs, then use a
>TV title for weekly title matches on Raw.

great idea. and as someone else said: why do these guys WANT the IC and US title? It always seems like "well, now i'm fighting you i guess."

>4) EMBRACE part time workers. Guys like Brock fighting 3-5

agreed. the series of 3 matches btw Lesnar and HHH and Cena/Rock 2 really lost their luster.

great ideas that, as you said, will never happen. not a chance they have the patience for this. but imagine how much hype these could get if they did? of course, if they started this idea and the ratings went down for a second they'd pull the plug.

i'm not even rolling my eyes at the main event when i feel i normally would be. i'm not particularly looking forward to a lesnar title run or cena keeping it, but i'm excited for the match itself. heyman and cena have put in good promo work to sell this. and lol @ "i'm gonna leave him in a pool of blood and urine and vomit."

oddly enough, i'm least excited for Wyatt/Jericho. I can't really put my finger on why this feud isn't working, but it isn't.

I don't understand why exactly it started in the first place. Bray has lost so much steam between all of those losses to Cena and then cleanly to Jericho that I don't see a reason the roster should be afraid of him. Also, if Jericho already beat him clean with the hillbillies at ringside, what does it matter if they are present or not this time? The whole booking doesn't make sense at all. Let Bray win this match and move on to something else where he can finally look not only strong as the leader of a cult, but as a singles wrestler as well.

with the Wyatts taking the role of Taker, Bradshaw and Farooq, and Cesaro as an enforcer for Orton's (or even better, Cena's) "Corporate Champ." Have Rollins realize he got in too deep, or that he's just there to run interference on "threats" to Orton, and reunite with the Shield to take down the Wyatts. If Bryan can indeed make it back, he'll probably take the Rumble win. So make it after the Shield screws Cesaro and or Bray out of what looked like a certain win. So then at Elimination Chamber, Reigns wins an EC match, which includes the Shield, Wyatts and Cesaro. THEN, HHH gives Reigns the bump and the bonafides he needs to be "ready" by having a knock-down drag-out match at Wrestlemania, with Rollins/Ambrose in some kind of tag title match, and Bryan making it all the way back to win the title at WM.

That whole video promo was great, and that Lesner line really capped it off. If it's not on a t-shirt by now, it should be.

Yep. That match last PPV didn't help either. I'm disappointed Rowan and Harper don't have a match of their own. I like them with Bray, but they just spent a few months killing it on their own vs. the Usos seemingly every week. I don't want them totally split up, but I'd probably be more excited for a match with them involved than one with Bray at this point. I mean, I'm sure they'll get involved in this one in some way, but obviously that's not the same.

I'm just sad that none of those dudes could take any kind of bump to get the 'Brock is a total ass' thing across physically. At least they have the heat working the way it is supposed to for now. Aka Cena is the face staring in the face of a huge ass-whooping and Brock is the monster heel with the terrible person as a mouthpiece/manager. The problem is...the monster needs to go over this time. And wwe historically has been terrible with letting this happen to a non-aging face. They need to think rocky 3 here. The part where Rocky gets worked and Micky dies. Not the short shorts and training with the brothers after...

And yeah...steph is at least kinda wasted on Brie. This same story would've been the biz with AJ in her place with Phil as the hurt/gone guy. Any diva could've been her oft-punished homegirl. I can only hope that they've done a steamboat/savage wm3 amount of prep for whatever the hell they are gonna do Sunday!

My advice if you really want to be sure is to do group sales if you have the money to front for lots of tickets.

I was going with a big group and just did group sales because they do it in advance. You have to buy 20, but it's pretty easy to sell Wrestlemania tickets on stubhub if you're not in it to make a huge profit.

I see them putting the Shield back together somehow..and yes, with the same three dudes. I could see them having serious cold feet with Reigns right now with him removed from the comfort of having excellent mechanics setting up his spots in those 6-man shows. He's reduced to lame WWE writing (and being too young/green to jazz it up), smush-lip faces, and laying around waiting for the heel or ref to tell him to jump up and do his moves.

At best. Too bad they don't get that cats like perfect and rude were over when they were bumping and showing ass to get faces over. They are so awesome at cooling people off with squash losses and making them invisible/useless. Too bad they are scared to have someone be 'too over' at the 'wrong time' while wanting us to feel bad about them not having folks to replace Orton, Cena, HHH, Kane, and whatever part-time guy they can get for us.

It is very important that WWE be responsible for making stars. Making it on your own with just the support of the fans without WWE telling us you're supposed to be a star is a big no no. WWE needs to keep this image that THEY are the only ones who can make a star, and that it your are a star, you have WWE to thank for it. This will prevent people from thinking they can to anywhere and be just as big.

It's why CM Punk ruffled so many feathers. Why it seemed like they might not even put Bryan over at WM. And why were are force fed guys like Orton and fucking Sheamus while guys like Ziggler and Cesaro continue to get the biggest reactions.

We're almost here...enjoy it, folks.

I'm gonna try not to watch this show as fake booker so I can just enjoy the work. WWE makes it hard sometimes when it feels like I'm thinking more about booking decisions than they are. I'm really gonna try tho...

>WWE World Heavyweight Championship:
>-John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
>

Color me clueless. I want Cena getting his ass kicked again, but some kinda Undertaker/run-in shenanigans leading to the Cena win + Rollins cash-in and win. This would work cuz Rollins going to hurt Ambrose tonight so he can do his movie thing. Then Rollins can get his Honky Tonk Man chickenshit heel championship run on with better wrestling.

I think we get Brock breaking out something crazy on Cena, causing some blood to spill and maybe even some slow talking and stretchering. I just hope it can top the Cena step-throw stuff from earlier this year.

>WWE Divas Championship:
>-AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige
>

I want both of these women to be available for me to...well..nevermind...sorry Phil. AJ wins barely, Paige throws the goth beatdown on her again and we keep this thing going one more PPV.

>WWE Intercontinental Championship:
> -The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

I'm still stamping this as the 'steal the show' match. Maybe we get some Ziggler love here. Maybe the new Nation comes and helps him out. Or maybe Miz and Dolph are buds so they go all HBK/HHH on us and kill themselves to make each other look good before Ziggler gets a win on a PPV and we still bitch about it cuz it is vs The Miz. For my $, Miz has been classic as the jackass delusional heel since coming back.

>Flag Match:
>-Jack Swagger vs. Rusev
>

I want to care because Swagger is the guy they won't give up on. Koslo...Rusev is the dude I hope they don't book into a wall before giving up on him. Flag Match = shenanigans so it could go either way. I'll take Swagger cuz Cena's gonna get beat the hell up later and Rusev needs to get out from under this undefeated thing so he can evolve.

>Lumberjack Match:
> -Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
>

I want this to be awesome because these dudes are some wrestling ass wrestlers but I don't trust them. It is like they know this could main event a year from now and are legit trying to not turn this into Rock/HHH or Orton/Cena before it is time. I'm still expecting the Shield triple threat match sometime in the next year. It will be on fo sho.

>-Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

*purse lips together RR-style*

Okay, okay...Orton needs to look good in this thing or he's laying near new Kane territory aka the heel that the Authority sics on you to punish you but it really ain't shit cuz you're gonna win the match. I know they don't trust Orton with much, but hey...if you want faces to be over, you need strong heels who can cheat and/or beat folks.

>-Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are
>banned from ringside)
>

Wyatt is being wasted and I'm fast-forwarding him regularly now. And I'd rather watch Harper wrestle now. He's lost and/or looked like a bitch so many times when it was important for him to look dope and/or win. I appreciate his hoss style, but the whole world is so not in his hands. And Jericho may not be in position to make him look good enough for anything tonight to matter. Still, Jericho needs to lay the hell down...

>-Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon
>

I'm in full IWC mode here...I'm rooting for Steph like a mug. But I see Nikki turn drama overtaking this. It isn't needed tho. Steph is soccer mom hot all up on the scene, she's clearly been working out for this, and she's getting crazy heel heat. And c'mon Brie...fall, sell, watch your hubby's ROH DVDs or something. Who am I kidding...the Bellas got better a while back but they're still not good. We just have to hope that they've rehearsed this whole thing so many times that Brie can't mess up her part of this...

I still wish AJ was in this spot vs Stephanie. Steph could've bossed up on her, it would've looked good as hell, and folks would be all in on this...Phil or no Phil.

I thought so watching Battleground, but I've been $ so far on a laptop for a bit. Now I'm on the PS3 watching AJ take a Ricky Morton whooping.

Is AJ gone soon?

Well...she did her thing in that match. Paige is finally looking better and seeming more at home just hossing up on broads. How come they couldn't do this at first? Better late than never.

STING...word. Maybe that's how Cena gets a BS win before Rollins cashes in on him. I still love the idea of Sting being the Shield's daddy/mentor/JJ Dillon.

Ziggler won to open. And reigns is prolly winning too. They ain't above having a nwa 85 show where heels win a bunch of matches. Triple haitch wouldn't hate that at all.

I still ain't even kinda sure tho. And the match has had like no commentary.

Perfect booking. Further establish Brock as the ultimate unbeatable DOMINANT badass*, which will make it mean something major when Reigns beats him at Mania

Unless the crowd shits on Reigns before then

This show was about as well-booked as you can get. This was booked better than Mania.

*which is why no one should have been tripping when Cole was blathering last month about Cena being the greatest WWE champion ever or whatever, because him saying that helped set this "dominant" and "shocking" loss up

I'm not sure how they do it, but they can build him to a point where the people want to see him kick Brock's ass in April 2015

But then again, this is Quick Trigger Vince, he might get new network numbers for the next quarter, freak out and hit the panic button to give us that match at Survivor Series or something

I will be impressed if they actually stick to their guns on this

And of course the other monkey wrench in the plan could be Daniel Bryan, who is still over despite being out of action and inexplicably off of WWE TV...

If it's between Reigns and Bryan, I don't think there's a single person watching wrestling today who would rather Reigns beat Brock than DB. Who can't get behind THAT story? - injured most of the year after finally climbing the mountain, still tremendously undersized, coming back for the title he never lost.

Reigns can't wrestle and really can't talk. That's TOTALLY OK! Randy Orton in 04 was eons away from the Randy Orton we know now when he undeservedly won his first title. Orton fell on his face in his first run - the connection between himself and the audience just wasn't there yet. IT TAKES TIME!!! Reigns will be a star. No question. But he's at least a year away.

There's a reason why Roman Reigns was the semi-main event, and it wasn't because he was one of the only two babyface wins on the evening. They're going to spend the next 6-8 months trying to sell this dude Reigns on being the next great superstar. He's the reason the Shield was formed in the first place: to protect him while he started his come-up. And again, I don't know how it's going to be done in a creative and convincing way, but the plan is to elevate Roman Reigns into a superstar badass babyface and the next face of the company after John Cena. They really believe that the whole Daniel Bryan thing was a fluke, despite the fact that he was hotter at this time last year than Reigns is now. But, this is what they want to do.

And remember two things: 1. Daniel Bryan doesn't have his Mania moment this year if CM Punk doesn't quit; 2. Even with that, Daniel Bryan was the one who was supposed to be taking this L from Brock, before he got hurt...

And again, all of this could change of Reigns isn't getting the big responses they're hoping for in about 5-6 months time.

I can't help but feel like there's some angst towards DB. That injury prolly messed up a gang of (bad) plans. And now they are stuck with no shield, a bunch of mechanics in dead-in situations, no Barrett, a stale Cena, and...well...a part-timer who is the best star on the roster if booked properly. I'd be shocked if db got at Brock and won when he came back.

The good news...a monster heel who seemingly can't be taken down is excellent compared to the monster face who wins too easily regardless of the situation or can't just show up and lose without shenanigans or ASAP heat-back theatrics. Brock is the hoss of hosses. And he could hoss up with folks between now and mania if he can be bothered to show up.

Reigns needs to be made real with some good booking, some beat downs, and a few losses. He needs to get in with Rollins and some other cats for a minute. Hell, he'll prolly get his shot from Rollins in a 'ima take to briefcase, believe dat' match.

This is where sting could be great if he could talk forreal. Oh well, they'll come up with something or Brock will be champ till this time next year.

In response to Reply # 100

No, not exactly like Goldberg (or Ryback when he first came back, for that matter), but I think Reigns needs to get hot, go on a winning streak, and start smashing cats in near squash matches. No more 20-minute matches where he almost loses. In fact, from here until Mania, he shouldn't lose at all. No pinfall Ls, no countouts, no DQ's. He needs to be almost as dominant as Brock Lesnar to put them on a parallel track, which becomes a collision course, which becomes an inevitable confrontation. By the time the Rumble hits, fans should be SCREAMING for him to win the Rumble and face Lesnar at Mania. Because the point of their match, if WWE still wants to have it, is that he's a dominant force, and Brock's a dominant force, so let's see them collide.

That said, I don't know if I like the idea of him being the "savior" of the company, which is something it seems they will most likely do in order to build Reigns up. But that's a mistake. And it's not like he has to cut these amazing, super-awesome promos, either. At least not yet. Fans will get behind a cat that sounds like marble on the mic but gets in the ring and kicks ass. I don't think people are yet behind him because his mic work sucks, I think they're not behind him because his matches, - and specifically him being in peril - are boring, especially in the face of the dominance of Brock Lesnar. If they're serious about building the company around this dude, then he needs to not be a babyface in peril at any point from now until they start the build to the Mania match.

They are sacrificing star ratings to clarify that Brock is outrageously better than everyone else cuz he doesn't care about fans and he's on the scene to beat people the fuck up and take what he wants. Aka vader beating inoki shit. Aka monster heel forreal and not the 'beat everyone up until you get fed to hogan' monster. I like it and it was kinda the only way to go without ruining Brock forever. They could've gone attitude era and had run-ins but nah...

No, not CM Punk silly.

Bray Wyatt.

Bray Wyatt would stand in Brock's face not on some faux macho shit but on some "your credentials are bullshit to a person who sees ghosts and hears voices."

The smarks would take to that one, believe.

The guy whose calling card is fear and destruction vs. the guy who "eats worlds" and doesn't give a shit about fear, even says that he's "dead"

The match would be absolute shit, but it would be interesting to see how it plays out.

It would be sweet for the lights to go out on Brock and have the hillbillies all up on him when the lights came back on. Or...the lights come on and they have Heyman. Maybe folks would be mad that it wasn't Taker but whatever...who else is even showing up and pretending to take on Brock? Sheamus? Rusev Crush? Show or Henry?

He couldn't lose again until sometime after that match. It would make for a wild scene..the promos vs Heyman would be crazy. And there'd need to be Sister Abagails aplenty. AND he'd need to decide he cared about taking on Lesnar after Brock had deleted a few more folks while champ.

The good news here is that Lesnar as champ = questions that we can't automatically answer.

I give Cena a helluva lot of credit for agreeing to it when I really don't think he had to. I think the match could have been great and this was a mistake - I'm thinking back to Punk's SummerSlam match with Lesner which was an excellent match so I don't get why Cena would have to get squashed like this as it kinda helps no one.

You couldn't do it any other way.

Brock broke the streak...he had to dominate Cena...

If Brock loses or struggles it diminishes the streak Taker had.

Seriously, who can they possibly put in front of Brock that is now a believable contender? Cena losing convincingly and cleanly of course makes all the sense in the world but this was a complete squash. At this point, Cena isn't even a believable contender for a rematch.

Whoever beats Brock is going to have to bring a laser or something.

He is going to train really hard, harder than he ever has in his life and he is going to get even better!

He's going to learn a lesson!

And most importantly he never gave up!

Cena is on a level where he can take an ass kicking like that and show up and say wow he kicked my ass but you know what? I'm still standing, you bet me but I've been beat before. Then he will go squash someone like Rusev and be back in his regular spot.

He admittedly doesn't know anything about booking, and doesn't have any input in that matter. He goes out there and does what he's told to do. All the shit he gets for being "Super Cena" all needs to be directed at the people writing the script. He's not anything like the Hogans or Michaels in the 90s who refused to lose or threw bitch fits the entire time. Cena will go out there and do the job if that's what he's told to do. He's a WWE guy, not a Cena guy

To reiterate my point from above, if you want to sell the Network, gives fans a reason to NEED it. If they want to see BRRRRRRROCK LESNAR (c) Heyman, the WWE Champion, they need to pay $9.99 a month.

Also, for the next few PPVs, if you're going to have Lesnar fight at each one (I still say the title doesn't need to be defended every month, but I don't think the WWE will take that risk), it should be squash matches. At this point, you really can't have anybody other than Cena and mayyyybe Sheamus, as far as healthy, active faces, give Lesnar any form of competition to solidify his dominance. Let a few on the cusp faces try and fail miserably over the next few months. Don't even let them get pinned, have the ref stop the match.

At Survivor Series, maybe have the Cena rematch after a few months of recovery (it would be great to take Cena off TV for a while to sell the beating). Have him come close, but fail nonetheless. Royal Rumble, maybe Sheamus gives it his all but comes up short. Then, finally, at WrestleMania, someone goes over him. I don't think Reigns is ready yet, but maybe by then he will be.

All the while, Triple H has realized he's made a mistake. He let some monster who isn't even obligated to show up unless he wants to take the WWE Title. Have HHH try and recruit ANYBODY to try and beat him. Have him try and send Orton and Orton tell him to fuck off a) cause HHH didn't give him his shot before and b) cause he doesn't want to risk his career fighting Orton. Play up the fact that NOBODY wants to get in the ring with the beast.

In the meantime, build up the mid-to-uppercarders. Get that IC title some prestige. Let guys like Ziggler, Rollins, Ambrose and PLEASE GOD Cesaro show why WWE is good for the next decade.

I agree Reigns isn't ready, but if you want to play up that he is a monster that is the way.

Cesaro with the push he started to get could easily be billed as the only guy on the roster naturally talented and strong enough to beat him.

Imagine something like Cesaro winning the Rumble, having a confrontation with Lesnar and doing the Cesaro swing. The roof would blow off and 2 months of hype for it would be amazing.

turn Brock into a PPV - don't want to pay 60 bucks for a PPV
pay 9.99 for the Network attraction.
Keep him off tv, let Paul do the story building.
Love the IC IDEA.
Keeping Brock off tv gives that title prestige again.
Builds up mid to upper card stars.

Some good ideas! keep em coming.

>WWE World Heavyweight Championship:
>-John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

A thorough beating that was entertaining the whole way through. It's exactly what needed to happen. And I'm sorta okay with him coming in just to kick people's asses once a month as long as it's like that. As others said, once someone beats him it'll be HUGE. I think they actually drowned out the crowd noise as they were showing the 5 shocked people in the arena. Trying to make it look the same as the undertake reaction when it was VASTLY different.

>
>WWE Divas Championship:
>-AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige

Love this feud. Been given just enough time and development. Glad to see it continuing. They're the only two who deserve the title or a title shot.

>
>WWE Intercontinental Championship:
> -The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

While I've enjoyed the Miz's recent run for the most part, a Ziggler win is always a plus. Really didn't see that coming.

>
>Flag Match:
>-Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

This was sloppy. Not the match itself, but the stipulation and everything around it. Still made swagger look strong while giving rusev the win though.

>
>Lumberjack Match:
> -Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

I was nervous about this before, but these guys hate each other so much even 20 other guys can't get in their way. Ambrose losing through slight shenanigans is good. Didn't make Rollins look too weak, but I would like to see him get a clean win at some point.

>
>-Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton

Orton was better than I've seen him in a while. The scoop slam and RKO were both smooth as hell. I can't say he "carried" Reigns either.

>
>-Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are
>banned from ringside)

eh.

>
>-Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

Pretty damn good, Steph. Happy with her winning too. Nikki's turn takes it a new direction (does Cena kayfabe break up with her?) but I hate that she seemed conflicted afterward. Go heel all the way. Be jealous of your sister or mad that she quit on you or whatever. There's real motivations there.

>
>You have to figure something will get added for the Usos to
>get on the preshow at least.

Again they ignore the tag titles and US title. but I can't really argue against any of these matches. Maybe Bray/Jericho cause it's been boring to me.

I was hoping they would come back on and Sting would be in the ring. Odd time to think that, but I think if Sting is going to fight at WrestleMania, I want it to be against an up and coming heel who will look good coming out of it win or lose. The last thing I want it to see a Sting v. Taker match. I really don't get why people want this match so bad other than it's a WWF v. WCW thing. Taker needs to hang it up, it's over. The streak is done so there is literally no reason to want to see his beat up self try and give us 20 minutes every March/April.

I think the silent, crow Sting randomly showing up to fuck with Bray randomly from now until Mania would be fantastic. Try and out-weird the Wyatt family.

Co-sign on a lot of this but I think WWE corporate want Sting vs Undertaker for Wrestlemania because they'll be able to sell it in massive numbers even if (as is likely) its a terrible match. I agree 'Taker is done. Probably one reason it was agreed Brock broke the streak.

Sting said in an interview recently when he was advertising the new WWE2015 game that he wants Taker.

Personally i'd like to see Sting vs Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania.

But Sting vs Bray would be fun for months.

Haha...that would be great to have Bray get harassed by Sting. It would also set him on a streak of defeating legends cuz Sting would job in the end. Heaven forbid they get wild and have Bray take up the Legend Killer mantle by going at Big Show, RVD, and other old dudes who could make him look good before going head up with Orton.

But hey...maybe it isn't time for Bray to be over right now so he goes back to punking R-Truth on Main Event or something and then just talking a lot on Raw/Smackdown.

He's become the most unenjoyable part of the show. I'd rather watch Brie Bella cut a promo than JBL comment on anything, ESPECIALLY when he says $9.99 like he thinks it's funny, but is basically just annoying at this point.

this doesn't feel like the best way to build the tag division back up. give the wyatts or the dust brothers gold and slowly build the new (already nixed) black stable. i liked the idea of xavier and co. studying their opponents. you can do a lot with that.

It's not like we're talking about an established tag team who have been in the division for a while and now one of the members suddenly has an outside foe. Why both putting these two together in the first place if you're giving Henry a program with Rusev? Why not just wait until afterwards? It's not like anybody is missing Big Show.

that's not the worst, but i wonder what they do with rollins now. ambrose was getting in the way of him cashing in, so now what does he do? cash in on brock? that doesn't seem smart, so maybe he holds off purposefully, but if it's just HHH telling him not to he doesn't seem patient enough for that.

the end of Mania, after the presumed new champion Roman Reigns has presumably defeated Brock Lesnar in a brutal match. I'd have Seth try, and fail, to cash in, only to solidify Reigns as the new face of the company...

Another superb match between those cats

Heyman is incredible. I'd also like to hear him brag at some point about the success of the Ladies and Gentleman... DVD...

And I'm actually tired of Steffy and the Bellas. I don't even care what it leads to at this point, especially since they keep talking about Daniel Bryan and he's not even there to either defend himself or plant seeds of doubt with Brie, which I suppose would help the story along...

But anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Ambrose as a Plan D for the main event of Mania in case Reigns still isn't ready, Bryan's still hurt, and they don't want to go back to Cena.

I thought a bella vs. bella feud might be entertaining, like any family/team break-up kinda is. But last night I remembered they're both REALLY bad actresses and you can't hide that without managers. If the focus of this feud is mostly the Bellas and not Steph, it's gonna be really painful.

I mean a lot is made about his ring work, but Cena wasn't anything to write home about for a while either. Same for Batista.

He just doesn't exude much of a personality. Sure he looks the part but that's different from actually being a believable character.

but now I'm actually thinking he can get by with that, especially if he's working mostly with guys at Orton's level for those long matches. Won't be terribly easy, but there have been big guys who have gotten by with fewer power moves.

However, post-Shield breakup his mic work has REALLY been exposed. Without a manager I think they're gonna realize his limits real soon. His personality is basically "guy who stands there and looks tough", which would be fine if he had good one-liners to sling out after his opponents spit their nonsense. as it stands, he might as well be saying "oh yeah? well i don't agree with that." every time an opponent cuts a promo.

that way. He apparently has a natural charisma that can't break through the cornball one-liners he has to say on Raw every week. I'm trying to find video evidence (outside of WWE) that apparently confirms this.

The ring work sells itself just as long as, I repeat, he's not struggling to win 20-minute matches. He really should start being nearly as dominant in the ring as Brock Lesnar, and it's not like Brock has this awesome set of chain wrestling moves that he uses in matches.

Ultimately, it really should be brute vs. brute for the title at Mania.

And here's the other thing: they're going to have to do something quickly to make sure Reigns is locked in with the fans, because Dean Ambrose is starting to gain that CM Punk/Daniel Bryan fan following, so while he's gone they'd better figure out a way to spotlight Reigns better, or else it's going to be a long 6-7 months for them...

the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if it's terra ryzing's semi-invisible hand trying to keep the talent in their place, though.

I think we could see Brock retain in a match that won't be nearly as one-sided as the last one

Or

I think we could see Cena take the title, only to lose it on a Seth Rollins cash-in after another brutal match (which would conveniently solve the "Brock isn't around all the time" dilemma). Then Cena or whomever spends the fall/winter chasing Rollins until Rollins loses it, maybe at Survivor Series or the December show, which could set the table for Brock getting the strap back at the Rumble, leading to whomever's going to challenge him at Mania.

HHH and Steph begging him to not take on Brock, just back from an injury Lesnar will destroy him and end his career. Fighting him is dumb and winning is impossible.

idk how you could be above the age of 12 and not want to see Lesnar throw Cena around like a ragdoll or find it shocking when it actually happens. well beyond the fact that there was always the doubt that the WWE would commit to what needed to be done.

He had a slight moment for Cena in the midst of the squash, but he basically came back around and supported the Lesnar win.

Pretty solid article overall tho, I still love Masked Man.

And damn, finally finished my first Raw in months... that Ambrose vs Rollins match may have sucked me back in.

I expected Cena to get beat down in the end but compete reasonably well for the first two thirds of the match before running out of gas while Brock ramps it up to Super Saiyan 2.

In response to Reply # 0

Overall, Hunter gets a worse rap than he deserves, though there are certainly times it's deserves.

Time and again he seems to be the one looking toward the future while Vince is the one who just wants to hotshot the here and now.

Anyhow, it seems Hunter wants to give this to Reigns while Vince wants Dwayne because of the insane guaranteed payday.

Truth be told, they could have the best of both worlds here if Vince wasn't so bullish on getting his way:

1. Have Dwayne enter the Rumble. Play up his relation to Reigns.

2. It comes down to Dwayne and Reigns.

3. Cue Hart/Luger finish.

4. Use that in a match to helpsell the Elimination Chamber PPV.

5. Reigns goes over and beats Brock at Mania.

If you REALLY want to make that next guy, you put him over Rock at EC while putting over the A'noai as a whole (maybe even induct a member to the HOF) and use that to springboard Reigns as a big-time threat to Brock.

AND/OR

Put Rock in Reigns corner. He'll say he's there to extend his family legacy. They show Yokozuna. They show Umaga. They show The Rock. Then they show Reigns destroying people.

Rock says he's there to train Reigns (AHEM: My Rocky III idea for Ryback/Brock last year would work well here too) because he's been in the ring with Brock. He knows what Brock is all about. He's there to push Reigns harder than he's ever been pushed. He's there to put Reigns through finishing school en route to becoming the next great A'noai champion. The next...... Great One.

But I see it as being a WM 32 story moreso than this year. AKA Reigns getting the hotshot treatment is gonna lead to (more) backlash because folks don't feel like THEY picked him to this degree.

But the challenge is with Brock's remaining availability and how they want to handle it. Night of Champions is terrifying because Cena might seriously win that match and nullify a lot of what we're talking about. If the belt has to come off of Brock this year, I'd much rather have Rollins rebelling against the Authority shenanigans...especially with the curb stop being sold like the punt years ago on some send your cards and letters to 'Get Well, Hulk' shit.

Reigns remembers that he was in this thing called The Shield. I assume the brass considers this a huge shot for Reigns. If folks ain't loving on him after Rollins goes all HBK selljob for him, it is prolly over for Brock/Reigns at WM31. As long as this doesn't somehow lead to Cena winning at Night of Champions, kewl.

giving up spectacular views, I would've felt the same way. As it stood, I made it through that segment somehow.

The WWE still hasn't gotten over not having great talkers who were white hot over to help them fill out shows. Watching old Raw/Smackdown segments where Rock or Austin would show up and just ramble for 15 minutes about almost nothing reminded me of this recently. But they would hit each other where it hurt so casually and blow the crowd up several times a segment. Their promos were like matches where everyone had their signature phrases/spots/moves and it was just a matter of listening and watching them get through them while shilling the next match and/or PPV.

Now, folks aren't hitting anyone anywhere with pre-written stuff until the inevitable physical stuff jumps off, but the heat usually isn't there. Seeing Rollins run from Ambrose was great cuz that was some heat aka folks wanted to see Ambrose get to that dude. It is embarassing that they waited so long to have Reigns in on that..Shield Implosion/Confrontation = 3 dudes using history for the heat.

Side Note: Savage and Hogan's fragile ass Mega Powers relationship was the best: heel announcers hinting around at it falling apart almost the whole time, Savage's lunatic 'character' mixed with Hogan's 'straight ahead babyface, brother' + Liz just trying to keep everything cool while enjoying herself a little with having a buffer between her and Savage = great stuff. And when it all blew up with Liz taking that bump and Hogan leaving Savage to get eaten up for what felt like FOREVER in that tag match, I couldn't have been any closer to my TV without being in that mofo.

i'm not expecting jbl to be heenan, the body, 90's lawler. but c'mon.

no one was buying him repeatedly trying to bury jericho in the first three minutes of the show.

also, LOL/big ups @ paige saving the diva's segment by saving the belt from falling outta the ring when she got "knocked out".

i think he can be funny at times, but it's too much of the same thing and it feels like he's lazily trodding through his heel role when he doesn't care about the segment. and when women are on the screen, forget it. i'd rather they shut off his and lawler's mics. Say what you will about the quality of the divas division, but some of them are trying to be taken seriously. That doesn't work when 2 out of 3 commentators are audibly drooling into the mics.

All about trying to hype a super show for next week to compete with MNF

There are 0 stories I really care about right now.

Lesnar is the most interesting thing but his story is not being on TV.

I like Ziggler a lot but his feud with Miz is kind of just cliche and uncompelling to watch.

Fuck this Bellas shit

Mark Henry vs Rusev is fine, but we all know Henry isn't going to be the one to beat him so it's just filler and the same story we've seen several guys do with him already.

I like Rollins a lot, but we all know he isn't cashing in and winning anytime soon. If he does cash in he'll lose, they gave him the case but he really isn't ready to be the top guy so now he is just kind of hanging around as 3rd fiddle in the authority.

Just really nothing all that interesting happen and 3 hours is a long time for nothing interesting to happen.

but ultimately, the reason I wouldn't get it is because it's just far too much of my time to invest in one show per week: 3 hours Raw, 2 hours Smackdown, etc.

I say this from a "fan" perspective and not a business one but I think less weekly TV would be more compelling to me.

They're given a good amount of time each week, they're two talented guys who are getting decent shine, plus it just seems like a rare thing to dedicate time to the IC title so I'm enjoying it from that perspective too and hope they can keep it up.

We might be inching closer to that long-awaited Cena Heel Turnâ„¢ by way of whiny heel like Bret Hart in '97

Or maybe not, I don't even know, or care, anymore

Last night's show was shite

Also, for the life of me I cannot figure out why Daniel Bryan, despite his injury, is STILL not on TV

At the very least he should be out there helping his wife with her situation

Nevermind, I know exactly why he's not on TV, and it's not because the injury is too severe for him to be there

I thought that whole segment about other potential title contenders was a little strange - the rematch is a compelling story enough on its own and I think another example of Cena's new 'in-ring attitude/dominance' would have been enough for the week. I suppose stuff like this has to happen for Brock title feuds seeing as he won't be there each week.

It has nothing to do with Brock.

This is a very common wrinkle they employ when there are a small handful of (sometimes VERY) loosely related feuds, and it makes sense here. It's been done too many times to count. It's a standby.

"I'm the guy who deserves a shot!........ HOLD ON, RANDY! I BEAT _______ AT _________ AND I'M THE GUY WHO DESERVES IT!.......... You two sissies shut up! I'm The Man around here, after all I'm the guy who did _________ to _______!!..... Let's all stop arguing, everyone knows I'm the future! If there's anyone who can beat________, it's ME!"

Enter a tag match, perhaps followed up the week after with some stipulation designed to help one side while it hinders the other, rinse, wash, repeat.

portion of it up until i believe the in your house ppv after wrestlemania 13.

they've been showing the monday night wars series the last the few weeks, and did a special specifically on the rise of DX, so hopefully that austin's is next in the pipeline.

or just start making all the monday night raws available from those two years. they only have like two available on the network from '97. and they wonder why they're losing subscribers.

A young, innocent, 9-year-old Oak was channel surfing and ended up on a channel where some crazy bastard was beating the absolute SHIT out of another dude, repeatedly busting his knee with chair shot after chair shot. I couldn't look away. I was scared as hell and I couldn't believe that someone would do something like that to another person.

Minutes later the victim was being carted away on a stretcher. His boys were yelling at the paramedics every time they rolled him over a bump in the ground as the dude on the stretcher screamed in agony. Finally they got him in the ambulance. He was finally safe. Phew.

Oh wait... that's not.... NOOOOOO!! THAT GUY WHO BUSTED HIS KNEE WAS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF THE STRETCHER!!! THE ATTACK CONTINUES!!!!!!!

I was TRAUMATIZED.

I was HOOKED.

Of course, that was a long burner that bled into real life. If we're strictly talking in the sense of a single program, Hart/Austin is up there, but feuds like Savage/Page are neck and neck. Sting vs the entire NWO, Foley/HHH, HHH/Rock, Michaels/Jericho from 08, all of those give Austin and Brett a run for their money.

That's if we're just talking about the 90s onward.

Their Iron Man match is one of the best matches of all time and if their heads had been right then, yes, I think their feud would have been epic but throughout their whole span together, I think they only had about 4 actual televised matches. It gets highlighted as a big time feud because people knew it was personal and because of what happened in Montreal, but other than that, there really wasn't an 'on screen/storytelling' feud of note.

Showing the Raw audience the Red Arrow should be enough to get some new people excited for Takeover. I would've personally loved to see the Tyler Breeze entrance on Raw, but oh well. Maybe soon enough.

plus, if they're trying to push the network, that's a great way to do it. simply putting up a picture of some NXT people isn't enough.

I'm actually a mark for that whole gimmick. I think a truly golden moment could be had if the Wyatts or The Authority or Brock Rusev or whoever decided to bully Rose, only to have the entire mob of ravers or furries or whatever the fuck they are beat the ever loving shit out of them. They need to treat that mob like a Marvel vs Capcom super move,at Rose's beck and call at all times. Turn him into a comical heel and utilize the Rosebuds a his finisher.

In response to Reply # 0

According to various reports, former WCW and WWE wrestler Sean O'Haire, real name Sean Haire, has died. The cause of death is currently unknown. An obituary at Tributes.com lists a "Celebration of Life" visitation to be held at his home on Sat., Sept. 13, 2014, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

He was just 43-years-old

http://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2014/9/9/6129809/sean-ohaire-dead

I was really big into him and Jindrak when they were in WCW with that Natural Born Thrillers group. I was pretty surprised WWE never tried to do anything with them as a team after the Invasion.

All four dudes brought it, and all four of them each got some nice time to just take over the match. It was great. I don't want to think too much about bringing these guys up already, but Tyler Breeze is pretty much perfect to me at this point. That dude kills it with everything he does.

WWE still has to figure out the best way to bring these kids up to the main roster while making sure their gimmicks get over. They struck gold with The Shield, mainly by packaging Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose together with Reigns, but others like Adam Rose have flopped. Part of it is that these gimmicks (like Emma) only get over in front of the Full Sail crowd, which is pretty much a grip of college kids acting goofy. So they need to find a way to keep what's unique about the characters while making Jo Ann Wrestling Fan from Iowa care about the new kids when they show up on Raw.

Speaking of the Full Sail crowd, they were cracking me up with their chanting, like when Sasha Banks came out to the dueling chants of "Sasha's Ratchet"/"No she's not."

-She's even got the height and build. Too muscular for my taste but can't front on the cheeky outfit, even though it's obvious she's got no ass whatsoever.

-I just might cop a Lucha shirt. Fuck NXT, bring both them and The Ascension up to the main roster and get that tag division poppin.

-Kenta was booked for a very good debut. Fuck the name change, but it was expected.

-It's hilarious how huge Tyson Kidd looks in this title match. I love the "Nattie's Wife!" chant.

-Tyler Breeze looks like a wierd John Morrison/Heath Slater hyrbid. He needs to tone down those tassels.

-I'm, shocked Sammy Zayne hasn't hit the main roster yet. He's a star.

-This is a solid main event. Again: how does this not have a network show?

-Is it just me, or is NXT brimming with ugly ass wrestlers with elf ears? Most of these dudes like like Highlander extras. I could give two fucks what the wrestlers look like but all these mutant rat faces are distracting.

The prevailing idea is that nxt is HHH's nerdy vision of what he wants wrestling to be. Great/hilarious/classic heels who are actually heels and faces worth cheering for... I'm with it.

KENTA isnt Japanese enough namewise!? Bs.

I'm gonna miss Regal on commentary. He's like a better Mike Tenay.

New Mysterio and sin cara, eh? I'll take it. Lucha stuff always has a place.

Neville is the shit...and obviously so. He's nearly RVD with better nonspot skills.

Tyler breeze is obnoxious 80s heel goodness so I'm all with that.

The big guy with tattoo chest is another flatliner variation user.

I'm of the 'nattie is clearly attractive but she kinda can't work' line of thinking.

Zayn is the mechanic who can make anyone look good. He's perfect for nxt now and he'll be the same for raw whenever he gets there.

Which was super racist considering when that gimmick was going on btw.

I'm mildly terrified of Cena winning this match in a few days. But c'mon...they know folks are gonna roll all the way to football and video games if they run through the fall with Cena being super normal Cena as the champ. But I think they are heading to All Black Everything Cena.

I REALLY want to see Kenta wrestle 6 months from now in an important/contested match. I'll take the squashes until then, but he's at his best in the epic video game/All Japan-ish kickout festivals.

276. "Roman Reigns out 6 weeks* after "incarcerated hernia" (swipe)"
In response to Reply # 0

wwe.com:

>Roman Reigns undergoes emergency surgery
BY ZACH LINDER AND BRIAN PELLEGATTO

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — WWE.com has learned that Roman Reigns has undergone emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia. Reigns had been in Nashville to promote tomorrow's Night of Champions pay-per-view, and will now be unable to compete against Seth Rollins at the event.

WWE Network will be cutting into regularly scheduled programming during the afternoon with live updates.

UPDATE:

WWE.com has spoken with WWE physican Dr. Chris Amann to get the latest.

"I was in contact with both Roman and the surgeon who performed the operation in Nashville today. Roman had developed acute abdominal pain in his hotel room last night after his match," Dr. Amann told WWE.com. "This wasn't related to a specific injury that occurred in the ring. Roman has had a pre-existing hernia for some time, which unfortunately had become acutely painful, which led to him going to the emergency room in Nashville. He was found to have a large hernia that was unable to be reduced, which means pushed back into the abdominal cavity. As a result, it was necessary to perform an emergent operation to open up the hernia sac and try and push it back into the abdominal cavity."

"At the time of the surgery, surgeons found a loop of small intestine was caught in the hernia sac, which would account for the pain and discomfort that Roman was having earlier in the evening," Dr. Amann explained. "The surgeons released the hernia sac so the intestine could be pushed back into the abdominal cavity. Once they were satisfied blood supply had returned to the intestine after releasing the hernia, they went ahead and completed the procedure. A mesh was placed over where the hernia had occurred to prevent future occurrences."

Now that the surgery has gone well, the clear next thought was when will the WWE Universe be able to see the powerhouse back in action.

"Roman has been transferred to the recovery room and is doing quite well. The plan is to keep him overnight, give him IV antibiotics to prevent infection and make sure the intestinal function returns to normal before discharging him from the hospital. If everything goes well, that should be tomorrow," Dr. Amann said. "Most of the time, the recovery time for something like this in terms of returning to physical activity is between four and six weeks. This was a pretty significant hernia, so it will probably be closer to six weeks."

WWE.com also asked Dr. Amann to elaborate on how this hernia differs from sports hernias, which sports fans know often lands top athletes on the injured list.

"This is a completely different type of hernia than sports hernia," Dr. Amann said. "A sports hernia usually refers to a tear in the lower abdominal wall that attaches to the ligaments. That type of tear is typically occurs from repeated activity or sports. Roman had what’s called an inguinal hernia. It can sometimes come from sports, but sometimes people are born with these. It is treated differently than a sports hernia."

Check back with both WWE.com and WWE Network for the latest updates on Roman Reigns' condition.

* let WWE tell it. He might "surprise" everyone by coming back earlier. They sometimes like to pull this "he's gonna be out for a minute" shit from time to time.
