"New OKS Fantasy Football League: Looking for Owners"
Since my fellow Blowhards are split on moving into the 21st century and changing to an auction draft, I decided to create a league for the season to do just that, as well as have some fun. However, I need some people to come join me and thats where y'all come in.
Because I want this to be a fun and active league, I will be slightly selective with who joins. Basically if I know you and/or see that you're a regular poster, you're in, first come first served. If I've never seen you post or played in a league with you in the past where you stopped playing, you're not. I am holding a couple spots for current Blowhards who want to join in here, but not many.
League Particulars:
Auction Draft set for Sept. 2nd (2 days before the season starts) 10 Team League (can be expanded if needed) Standard Scoring with some slight tweaks League hosted on NFL.com

Schedule isn't working like I thought it would. Probably have to miss the draft and computer auctions are the worst, way worse than when they just auto draft in a regular draft.

The only thing that sucks after that is you have to wait around for a really long time to get the rest of your team.
Auctions are really weird in that you'll spend 60+ on guys in the first few picks, but then people all start to need to budget so then you can get really good role players for 1-3 bucks. Nobody wants to wait that long.
My draft of let the computer handle all of the early important drafting then show up at 10:45 and draft my bench is a bold strategy, let's see if it works. While everyone was tired and bored I was just getting started on spending $1 on a bunch of replaceable jobbers.

obviously time limits coulda used changes and the autodrafters kinda screwed everything up, but fascinating.
Really excited to grab 3 top 2 round guys (were this a snake draft) and still pull a quality 4th round type. wish i could have foreseen how little money QBs would go for and not pulled the trigger on Rodgers, but he's a beast so I'm cool with it.
sammy watkins was a terrible terrible fuck up. i meant to push his value up to 6 and then somehow got him at 7. oops. really wish i hadnt as i really wanted DeAndre Hopkins and he went for 4 later (or tate). i knew it. too many decent WRs to waste that money. and i coulda grabbed another decent RB possibly. oh well.
and trent richardson was a panic move. fucking fuck fuck. i mean, i dont hate 6 bucks for trent richardson, i just hate that i have trent richardson.
got my bunch of handcuffs bench and a good starting unit. just need ertz to perform and Vereen to be who i think he is. i guess tate not sucking would help too.

Fantasy is still 90% luck each year, but an auction does give everyone a little more control over their team and the ability to build with a strategy other than, "well I'll see who is left in 12 picks when I'm up again." Not to mention you are involved the whole time, not sitting around for 15 minutes and then getting 1 minute of action when its your pick.
Auto draft does kill an auction though because they will overbid on guys you could have gotten for less if it was all people, as opposed to auto draft in a regular draft where they just take the top player left someone needs.
When you shorten the bid and nomination times so the draft doesnt go past 2 hours and have everyone there an auction is 100X better than normal draft.

It usually leads to them overpaying and almost never leads to them stealing a player.
I never did an auction on NFL before but on Yahoo they will do shit like when the bid is at $4 they will jump up to $24 because that is the average value of the player.

you could get him, albeit you gotta overpay sometimes. one of you was trolling me driving up dez's price
more control of how you build your team in general, too. if you wanted two star RB's, you could get a couple of first rounders and look for the bargains for the rest of your team. in a snake draft that option's pretty much out for you if you're picking towards the end
