"Wrestling Post: Money In The Bank to WWE Battleground"

My favorite PPV of the year and it happens to fall on my birthday, looks to be a great set of matches tonight, however I'm sure none of the people I want to win will actually come close to doing since WWE seems to have no vision or balls to do anything outside of whats safe.....

Tonight's Card:
Summer Rae vs Layla (with special guest referee Fandango)

Big E vs Rusev

Stardust and Goldust vs Ryback and Curtis Axel

Naomi vs Paige for the Divas Championship

The Wyatt Family vs The Usos for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Bad News Barrett vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the Money in the Bank briefcase

Kane vs. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus vs. Cesaro vs. Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena vs. Roman Reigns in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

We the children of the Light, you know what I mean?
That's why I'm hating on the darkness like Paula Deen
Cause in my hood they masked up like it's Halloween
We going hard for the Rock, but we not some fiends
- Andy Mineo

Wyatts with the tag titles would've been pretty cool, but the Usos always bring it. That superplex into the ending of the match was awesome.

I wasn't too crazy about the Wyatts new music. I liked that one they used this week on Raw better.

They are on it. Chain wrestling, bumping, damn. Cameron is going way heavy on the acting. I get it but the subtle sell is where the $ is on that angle.

Paige is coming with the new japan juniors submissions. I got love for that.

The selling is the only thing that was a little off.

They got stuck with her bc she's Naomi's partner.
Her mic skills Monday trying to sell what she needed to
was a disaster. Cole and them were clowning her.

You're right, subtly is whats needed to drive this story.

She can't do it, she's always too over the top.

Yeah I noticed the crowd about to pop for that. That shit would have been anticlimactic as hell if you ask me. Rollins and Ambrose are on that bubble already and Dolph was a realistic favorite. Kofi simply isn't main event material. His work is vastly overrated due to his exceptional moments of athleticism. His matches are basically a lot of really, really, really high jumping chops and Trouble In Paradise.

but if the Rollins win leads to some sort of Reigns title win, Seth cash-in and Sheild triple threat match, I'd be so so so happy. I'm gonna try not to think about it too much anymore, but, oh man, I'd lose my shit for a Shield triple threat match at some point.

It really is hogan 92-95 shit. Folks just want him to not win again.

Side note: how cool would the Rollins turn be if they had held it until tonight.

To say Layla is the best looking diva eva. Sherri was muted bigtime but she was good in a now way years ago. I remember being blown away by Trish. And sunny was crazy strong even before it became a thing. I remember being all about her when she was with the bodydonnas. But Layla tho...

Once it was clear that nothing sneaky was gonna happen. Now the aftermath is where the opportunity still is. If nothing happens soon, then boredom will set in solidly and even more folks will find something else to do with the time. If a dude doesn't get strong cheers in his own town, that should be the strong hint needed. We'll see. Kofi and Dolph were getting harder cheers. The heels deserve some blame with the book. If the actual wrestler heels have no heat, the faces winning mean a lot less...especially for a mofo like Cena who BE winning.

They got bailed out of the hogan thing in the early 90s...he was still winning in 91 and 93 when folks were about done with him winning the way he won his matches. Of course, cuz wcw was a dumpster fire they hired him and did the same thing with him for a couple years until he was outright getting booed like Cena is in some spots now. Again, we'll see how off Vince is after seeing golf claps at most for Cena winning.

>oh well at least Brock is gonna kick his ass at Summerslam.

that he might not. Really...I'd rather not have another absentee champ. I'd rather them go for the face vs face Summerfest match again. With that, they'd have to do something with the whole 'the authority decides who the champ is/should be' thing. Even if they replace all DB with Cena and 'enlist' Brock to wipe him out, I'm not sure how that is gonna play for the other folks during that time. Rollins vs Ambrose grudge match festival takes care of 3 dudes tops. What else is there for everyone else that was in the ladder matches? Maybe they can go back into tourney mode for Wade's about to be vacated title and pretend that title is important enough for Dolph and them to actually want to win it...nah...that's silly.

>Morgan Freeman,

Only a character change, joining a tag team or faction, moving to a different fed, going for a different title, or getting locked into a blood feud would keep cats out of the goldrush. Hell...that's a lot of options for WWE to work with and they still can't make up stuff for their whole midcard except blue balls ladder matches and half-ass intermediate NON-TITLE matches with SECONDARY champs who BE losing NON-TITLE matches and then winning the title matches after everyone thinks they suck because they alway lose.

Just a solid 'I'm trying to get a title match up in here' from most of the guys on the card who aren't locked into a blood feud would go a long way. And yes...if that means Cena beats low-end heels (aka everyone other than Brock, Rollins, or HHH) in title matches sometimes on a Smackdown or Raw or a Main Event or whatever, COOL! That way we don't have to do so many artificial 'throw everyone in there' deals. Confrontations should be happening in different ways in different places..no, we don't have to go back to the everything jumps off backstage era, but still. And we all know what a good face vs face heatcheck match can do.

Yawn. Same old shit. They’re soooo fucking concerned with ratings, why, fuck making new superstars, just run the same old shit into the ground like always and hope it gains them another .2 on those ratings!

Hell, they couldn’t even build up some tension and give Cena a halfway decent win. Just, you know, stay out of the action for 5 minutes and come from out of nowhere to bust A.A’s on Kane and Orton and snatch the title. Ho-hum.

BUT CENA SELLS ALL THIS MERCH!!!

Yeah, he sells all that merch regardless of whether or not he’s champ. He literally doesn’t need the title at all, but other guys could benefit from it, and they could, I dunno, build up another guy or three who starts selling merch in higher numbers while Cena still rakes in money for the company by the truckload.

What a fucking mess.

More Kane. Yawn. Yeah, they really needed a run-in a match with 6 other guys who could have played a big role in that finish (like… I dunno, Ziggler, the guy Seth has had like 3-4 matches with in the last month, perhaps?).

Whatever. At least it was only 9.99.

obviously disappointed by the end (and i won $20 with the cena win, still would've preferred something else). lesnar should take the title at SS, and i'm cool with that given how much heat he has, but it's disheartening they won't go in a new direction at the PERFECT ppv to make a change. wanted the wyatts to win the belts but that tag match was great. i don't know where to start with the briefcase match. would've preferred an ambrose win, or at least some shenanigans that don't involve kane but those are small complaints. nearly flawless booking. spot after spot after spot. rollins owning it gives them a lot of options. there was even a moment where i ALMOST thought kofi was gonna take it. unfortunately stardust/golddust had to follow that, so the crowd was still recovering for that whole match. it was like we all barely knew wrestling was still going on.

He exist because he has good matches. They expect that he draws Mexicans. And yeah..again...he's in the mechanic role...you can throw him out there with anyone and he can have a solid ass match.

It is the book's fault that folks don't care about him. The face turn was forced, badly executed, and it hurt him bigtime. Now he's back to being a random foreign guy who works mean and is never going to win an important match...and folks know that. So they don't care.

They may as well stick him with HHH and get rid of Orton as the loser lackey.

How do you get a heel who is getting too popular to get heat instead? Have him ruin Jericho's return.

Now we get a great fued, Jericho will make Wyatt look great, and Wyatt will get a big Summerslam win.

There's no telling how/when this came together. It looks like Jericho been grubbing or drinkin but he'll be fine. It is cool that guys from his era can show up with less bulk/bloat than they had during their main runs and put in some good work. Hogan did it. Hbk did it. Now Jericho be doing it. How sweet would it be if angle could stay his ass out of the ring for a few years and show up for a little run? Okay okay...dreaming now...

Looks like I'm gonna have to roll up on a raw recap and watch some more of it. I'm peeping this main even and wishing that someone other than Kane was in the Kane spot. He's not terrible but he's just ruined as a threat to anyone the wwe takes seriously. It makes the Cena situation even worse. And a punk ass almost stretcher job ain't changing that.

I wish Reigns was more ready but he needs those tag matches and other protective situations to keep his heat up. Maybe HHH lays down for him at summerfest to get back to his role of being the good shit this year.

He is always the finisher in tag matches, or just uses them in segments.

We really haven't seen significant singles work from him to know if he can carry a good match. To be fair, I'm sure his repertoire is not great, but he can always improve it. For now he has his signature moves and that's really all we've needed to see from him.

two weirdos together is always a good time. i loved their former partnership, but it was always a little strange to me that cody wasn't the straight man to goldust's weirdo. they were just brothers who got along perfectly. they had de-emphasized goldust's weirdness at that point, but still, cody's a normal guy wrestling with a guy in facepaint and a wig. at least acknowledge it.

they put them in a hellish spot on MITB though. that wasn't fair for their push.

I thought Rollins/Ziggler was booking perfection but these two or neck and neck with them if you ask me. There's clearly a definite contrast in styles with those pairings but I could easily watch each of them square of for 6 month programs and not get bored.

Of course, I think Orton pairs well with pretty much everyone, but there's something to he and Ambrose that stands out to me.

I remember how tame Foley's was in comparison regarding the road stories - Foley talks about him crumbling up cookies in DDP's bed, and Bret talks about mounds of coke on coffee tables with wrestlers passing straws around and Vince McMahon urinating in Ric Flair's bed. Crazy.

In response to Reply # 103

The article is very factual no doubt about it but my 2 annoyances

1. You can't just dismiss The Rock because he is half black and claim there has never been a black champion. By that logic we've also never had a black President.

I agree The Rock is in his own world compared to every other black wrestler they've had, but there are a million pieces of evidence you can use without just claiming there has never been a black world champ and dismissing him. It wasn't necessary to make the point he wanted to make.

2. I hate how this article is also written in a way that turns its nose up on wrestling and its fans in general. It read like somebody who thinks wrestling is a joke and its fans are garbage was forced to do a little research and then write an article on a topic they hated.

Other than that, yea this is nothing new.

I made several references to the fact that this is a legit problem and the article is speaking truth.

None of that makes up for dismissing The Rock simply so you can say 0 instead of 1 (which would still make a really good point) and writing it like you're mad you have to write about the topic. That's just unprofessional.

Especially when the reasons for dismissing The Rock were he is half black and he didn't get pushed on the gimmick of being black.

I know the shit is real, there can still be flaws.

And even then, he's super wrong. The Rock started to get over during his stint with the Nation of Domination. So the author can't even get his facts straight on THAT. None of which negates the point, but, you know…. Do better.

Like this was clearly written by someone assigned to write an article that WWE is racist but who had no idea about it.

Yes WWE is racist, but we don't need to just dismiss things and make up things to make the point, there is plenty of evidence to do it.

I'd much rather see this addressed by someone like The Masked Man who knows enough to comment on the situation than a writer for some webpage who just got an assignment.

The thing is....It's easy to dismiss the Rock in the context of race when it comes to his WWE run. When Dwayne was doing that whole Nation of Domination Black Power gimmick, he was certainly pushed as "black"...

Once Vince figured out that he had something special on his hands, all that blackness was shown the front door. The Rock became this exotic "other" whose Samoan side was played up far more than the black kid that attended the U...

The writer is simply pointing out that The Rock was not packaged as a BLACK champ....The fact that he is the only black world champion during the WWE's 60 plus year run says a lot...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

That does not change the fact that saying The Rock doesn't count is just making things up in order to say 0 when there is plenty of racist stuff to talk about...even just saying the only 1 they ever had was The Rock who was such a superstar that you could never deny him still makes the point.

You're arguing with me like I think the article is untrue. I think it's true, but I think the writer did a shit job with it and was simply assigned a project they didn't really care about.

I listen regularly to the Cheap Heat podcast, this stuff gets talked about somewhat regularly, not in depth but it's brought up. I would love to see one of those two take this topic on instead of a journalist who just had to do a little wrestling research before writing on it.

They had R-Truth's Pretty Ricky character on TV last year and he was making a joke about how he couldn't spell something. There's a well of racism to draw from for the article.

I was watching it last night on the app. There was a point in the match where Funk wrapped a NOOSE around B Ware and drug him around... I was instantly offedned like "oh shit!" they really doing that.

It's amazing that as a kid I saw that same match and missed the 'cism completely.

I didn't even think of why The Godfather was problematic until I read that article. I was more focused on the sexist part of the gimmick*.

*sidenote: that's because I saw Godfather at an indie event shortly before he made his Royal Rumble appearance last year. I might have shared this story before, but it was in a gym at a catholic high school and his "ho train" was the lady basketball team with a couple of their mothers (wasn't sure if they were chaperones or coaches) included as well. they didn't wear the outfits, just their practice jerseys over street clothes, but it was still crazy to me. It seemed like a fair amount of these girls had family there too, and none of them saw an issue with yelling out "hoooooo train" as 14-year olds walked out to the ring.

it's possible the whole thing wasn't really explained to them. the girls just kinda followed him and danced awkwardly while laughing with each other in the ring. perhaps they just weren't familiar with the character and didn't hear the "hoooooo" part, but i thought the whole act was pretty clear and was surprised everyone was into it. it seemed like somewhat of a family/community event too because they were raising money for the school's athletic department or something. it was one of the last couple matches though, so maybe no one wanted to raise a stink when they saw everyone having a good time and the thing was winding down, but it still baffled me in the moment.

I remember reading some wrestling column where the dude had to be like "THE ROCK IS BLACK, THE ROCK IS BLACK" as if he had to convince the readers.

Rock has never run from them 'cestors. He proudly featured both his mother and father whenever he could, and if you've read his book he talks a lot about his experiences in that regard.

that being said, I do believe WWE played "both sides of the fence" with Rock. He truly is the Barack Obama of Wrestling (or rather Obama is The Rock of politics).

and I found it rather funny that he wrote that shit with his pinky up, considering most of the research he did on angles and such.

but yeah... going into Smart-Dumb Negro mode over The Rock was some bullshit.

there was word a couple weeks ago that his recent losses aren't intended to stop his push, but his post-WM booking in general has been odd, to say the least. I don't even know if he's a face or a heel really. I think they made him stop doing the swing so much because it was so over.

btw, every once in a while they give kofi a big win and then never do anything with it. a few months ago he beat orton clean, then got a rematch in which cena convinces him to throw it so he can avenge his father's beating, and later on he didn't even get put into the Elimination Chamber. now he's beating Cesaro clean... and then he has to have Big E (who is inexplicably his new buddy) beat up Cesaro for him?

He has up until a year to cash in

But it's not like they can/should "strip him" of the briefcase

That would be dumb, given the year rule

Yeah, they'd lose something creatively, but it would be a dumb move to take it from him, unless they had planned on having him actually win when he cashed it in

He won MITB and got a great story line of I'm using this at WM next year with a whole year to build it. Then when he got hurt they had him lose it (I think this is right, this is a few years ago at this point)

But yea if it's not a serious injury you let him ride it out, change your storyline a little if he was going to use it soon, but he has plenty of time to cash it in still.

I still love the idea of Reigns winning the belt at WM and Rollins lurking around with the case stalking him.

Word from backstage at last night's RAW is that Seth Rollins is fine and is not injured. A source said Rollins was just selling the knee injury from the main event and doing a good job of it. It was noted that it was suspicious how WWE kept the cameras off Rollins when he went down.

And his chick is back on the scene. I'm not counting him out even if I'm not counting on him to show up and do something to make me care more than I do now.

I feel like the whole roster is waiting around for DB's neck situation, which is a damn situation forreal, and to see how long they roll with Reigns as the most in your face next big thing since Ryberg.

In response to Reply # 0

I finally read it. Well damn...

I came away from it filling like he at least tried to tell it straight but he's so strong on the idea that he was trying to play fair in unfair situations that it makes me skeptical in spots. And 'why not' is the answer to the 'why would he lie' question...

Oh...and Dynamite Kid is super crazy awesome as a wrestler but a nutjob bad person who bullied folks in and out of the right and did horrible stuff overall. It makes me question Benoit even more, but his ending sequence just about guarantees that we'll never get a fair idea of who HE was. That and a cat like Owen isn't around to lay down the info.

AND...several Japan dudes worked stiff and were a-holes.

I enjoyed the blanks that it filled it for me as a wrestling nerd. It is crazy to understand/remember how the wrestling territory world worked up until the late 80s..so many connections, appearances, leaving and coming back, bad blood, etc. The New Japan/WWF relationship would be cool to have now. And crazy stuff: the straight up snitching/detailed confirmations on the drug stuff and chicks. The winks to 'maybe them dudes was gay cuz shiiiid Pat was gay as hell, y'all'. The all-in family info and call-outs. And yeah...WCW was a clusterfuck that was dying the whole time it was living even with bull-headed money slangin.

I don't enjoy that it made me go back and skip through Starrcade 99 to see 'the kick' (the Goldberg kick that eventually ended Bret as a wrestler after a 'severe concussion'). That card was brutally booked and paced. And goddamn man...we lost Bret Hart's career to WCW shenanigans...maybe it is their biggest fuck-up of all..booking sloppy and by-the-fly with guys who can work and protect each other without house shows and rehearsing is one thing. Booking like that with green dudes like Goldberg on the scene? Recipe for disaster...like a huge ass concussion to the most important cat on the roster at the time (late 99).

I also don't enjoy that it has been so long since the book was finished that I don't know for sure where Bret really is with stuff now. I know his wife dropped a book on him, but what is she really gonna say? Bret shows up looking pretty old every now and then. Him and Shawn did the hug and shake 'my bad man...naw, my bad...Sunny WAS fine tho' routine years ago. He pretty clearly still thinks very little of Triple H, so I don't need any more info on that.

Overall, it is the type of book that just makes you want to read other wrestling books to get other perspectives on similar times and situations. It makes me want to revisit Bret's in-ring work because he HAS been erased at least a little bit. His stuff with Shawn is almost all one thing and that is kinda all I think of when Bret's name comes up and that's a shame cuz dude wrestled his ass off with and without HBK. I'm gonna watch his Owen Tribute match with Benoit sometime soon.

I'm flat out scared that reading anything else about Ric Flair will make me believe he's been a total dickbag of a person to a mountain of folks. I'm already almost there. Or heaven forbid I read HIS book. I'm assuming he'd try to cover himself to look like the good guy in spots where it is clear that he had to be in the wrong at least a little..Bret's book has some of that but he at least it reads like he TRIES to present stuff without making himself the greatest guy ever every time. And at least he admits that he's only calling it with the info he had.

I'm really intrigued by his dynamic with HHH - I guess they're clearly not friends (particularly in light of his comments about HHH never being an A-list wrestler, etc), which always sounded like a crazy statement to make bearing in mind that HHH is on the cusp of becoming the most powerful man in the business and ultimately the man with the keys to Bret Hart's legacy so why would he want to p!ss him off at all?

If you're revisiting Hitman matches, may I suggest his title match against British Bulldog at In Your House, plus his second round match against Mr Perfect at the first King of the Ring. My two favourites.

We need to watch this like a random In Your House before a real ppv (summerfest). The right one will win the feud. They are just trying to end up with two divas if they can. Cameron is already almost jobless.

This is like a super clash of the champions. If we get Brock or a Cena vacation, we've won. Or at least 2 good matches.

Side note: WWE needs to steal the good WCW ppv names and throw out shit like battleground.

All four of these dudes brought it. I was hoping for a tag title change tonight, but I can't be mad after that match. And after that finish. Good luck topping that, rest of the card. Maybe Ambrose-Rollins can.

Yep...we just saw the good side of having folks work together a gang of times. Shit clicks, psychology can be built across multiple matches, 'fuck you...this ain't over' 2.9 kickouts/false finishes, etc. Oh yeah...and more of people's offense can get over with the crowd.

The only issue is that we see so many of the matches that happen now without having to go to house shows.

I'm loving these promos, and we know they're awesome together in the ring. Let them fight, and let them fight people other than Ryback and Axel.

Also, Rusev and Swagger was a lot of fun. I guess they have a rematch at SummerSlam now?

It seems like a lot of this card is gonna be run back at Summerslam. Maybe not a lot, but it feels like a decent number of matches will be rematches, and I expect Bray-Jericho to be one of them. Makes a clean Jericho win seem a bit odd, but whatever.

The hillbilly cult guys aren't exactly koslov level, but man...they need to quit laying down at some point. They are less threateningly than ADR and Orton. They are ahead of rybaxel. They are a bit above Kane with no connections.

If be fine with all of this if some of these midcard guys get something cool to do. Or hell..if they had a beatable champ to almost beat, wwe could do some heat check matches with all of this damn programming.

Hopefully Miz can get back to having good matches.

Orton and Kane disagree and Mario Kart themselves out of it. Reigns get protected/allowed to look good. Cena wins. No cash-in cuz Rollins is gone. Now it is a matter of whether Brock shows up and murks him or not.

In response to Reply # 175

I was kind of worried this may be a thing, now that they are making way less money on the actual PPV and people are basically getting it for free, there isn't a big need for them to even try to be great.

The big ones will still be big, but these monthly PPVS seem like they are going to go the way of just mega Raws, the whole thing was just build up for Summerslam basically.

They did more with Extreme Rules and Payback than I thought they would. MITB is always great, of course. This one wasn't quite a stinker, but it would've been better off on Raw.

Usos and Wyatts brought it per usual. Like others, I was hoping for a change, but still a great match. I could watch these two teams go at it forever, but it looks like it's time to move on. Who do the Usos take on now though? They have some work to do with the tag division. Perhaps a Big E-Kofi team will pop up.

The Fatal 4-way was actually booked really well for a Cena win. Nothing else they could really do there given what they're setting up. Battle Royals are always fun. I actually liked the Ambrose-Rollins segments, but given how down the middle of the show was they probably should've done a real match. At least for the crowd that paid to see it.

They need a heel to take on Cena, Punk would be way too over.

Lesnar is perfect because even a lot of Cena haters are mad at Lesner for beating Undertaker still.

between raw and smackdown they got 5 hours of time. it should be piss easy to cook up multiple good feuds w/ that kind of time.

but nah we gotta have twisted tea adverts and all that other dumb shit they use to kill time on raw. and smackdown basically being a raw rerun. it's just dumb how bad they are at making use of time.

when they refuse to move a single storyline along on smackdown. they do some fun stuff on there (for instance, the episode where the shield took out everyone), just nothing crucial. supposedly one of their selling points on the new TV deal was "we're gonna turn smackdown into a second Raw" (a claim they've made before), but no one is stopping them from doing that now.

really i'm excited for these guys to have anything if it's booked right. provided they don't get too crazy with it, i suppose you could chalk the "holding us down" thing to being part of the "reality" era. i would like to see them use things from their actual lives if that's the case though. they keep mentioning xavier woods' PhD candidacy in passing, but last night was the first thing i can qualify as intelligent from his character. kofi is also an educated guy, but can't seem to spell the word "skills". Big E has gotten a lot of attention, even after his push, but they never really settled on a character for him when he's naturally funny and weird.

The idea of a stable of black wrestlers joining together because if they don't help each other nobody else will is not itself racist.

But this is WWE so we probably know they will give them some super racist music and catchphrases and in the end they'll still wind up jobbers.

wrestlers, other than marginalize them as black wrestlers.

I imagine Vince sitting there, musing, finally snapping after failing to come up with anything, shouting "Fuck it. Just do some black shit. Whatever it is you people like, do that. Hey, you, Coffee, you have dreadlocks. Jim, get him some reggae music. Coffee, get an accent. And smile, dammit."

Now, I’ve got no beef with using cultural elements in these characters, however WWE seems to have this notion that being black is inherently a gimmick in itself and when they actually find something that works that’s outside the box, they fucking drop it like a bad habit.

R-Truth, by NO means whatsoever, had any business being in the main event scene when he was. But ‘Little Jimmy’ was gold. That shit worked like a charm. He got over with something clever, fresh, and entertaining. The crowd could actually engage with him in an interesting way instead of simply shouting “what’s up!” to that awful entrance theme of his.

Remember how Kofi was starting to develop during that feud with Orton? Remember how that just went away? Yeah. I don’t even like Kofi like that but he looked legit for a minute.

Big E is a fucking beast who can literally run people over. He can actually be entertaining on the mic in the right situations. Instead we get him tapping to the Camel Clutch to PPV’s in a row. He needs a new finish, but that’s beside the point. Being big & black is basically his angle. Him in the red, white, & blue getup and waving the flag worked. Dude’s got that All-American look and feel anyways. Nope, ho his ass out to the Rusky two months running. They had Big E do the job, but they’re going to let Swagger get the job done at SS.

Xavier Woods has a fresh character and I’ll be interested to see how they play this, but I’ve got little faith that this will actually be respectfully done in a way that doesn’t end with their stable being cast as The Uppity Negroes. Hell, I’d bet my paycheck Vince would fucking love that name.

Prime Time Players also come to mind. They had momentum, they got over. They had that black frat thing going and Darren Young fucking KILLED with that pick. They were developing little mannerisms that started to click with the crowd and then they split the team.

I just don’t buy the Big Ending as a finish from a guy who actually, literally runs people the fuck over at will. The Big Ending looks like it hurts Big E far more than his opponent.

It's a full-body cutter, basically. He's just spent the match running into you and over you. Now he's going to pick you up like a ragdoll, and then slam you face-first into the mat, while putting his shoulder through your guts. So it's a liver shot PLUS a chin-into-the-mat.

At least it's not powerbomb variation #5,862. Or Zeke Jackson's "Bodyslam you three times."

but in the one match the PTP guys had against each other Darren came out with a "NO H8" sweatshirt, which was the first reference they ever made to his sexuality, and then he got beat the fuck down by Titus. which would've been a fine way to get Titus some heat, but then they did NOTHING with Titus.

I don't know why it's so difficult to do a wrestling show that's different from WWE nowadays. that show should be diehard centric, the "Anti-Cena Show".

More consolidation we don't need in the business

The challenge is that only so many folks like wrestling 'for real'. And wrestling constantly stumbles into eras. Now, there's nothing to stumble into that will be huge. It is just Indy dudes finally getting on bigger stages and dudes from the wwe center/nxt. The next step is cats from japan. I'm terrified for KENTA cuz he is not big and someone is gotta have to get kicked for him to get over.

that niche. because trying to bring the Attitude Era back when Cenaball isn't really working WELL in general... is just a bad move

the casual watchers ain't gonna be there now in the age of "kayfabe about other shit" aka reality TV...

And what was so good about the Attitude Era was the ENERGY from the glass breaking or "If ya smeeeeelllll" - The crowd reaction is contagious, and we know at home when it's fake.

If you put this on TV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iDlh1dac-Y

it would do SERIOUS 'bers (and, oh hey, Generico's in NXT).

But you've got to have patience to build these guys, and Vince has famously shown that's a quality he does NOT have. So we get Sheamus dropping jew and mexican jokes in 2013. Or Super Cena OVERCOMING THOSE ODDS one mo' gin.

Dopeness. Zayn is gonna be everything folks wanted Christian to be. And probably everything DDP was too old to be...at least.

WWE is headed towards a generation of Flair/Bret/Shawn/Punk/Japan fans being all up at the top of the card. They need to quit playing and admit it. Unlike Eddy G. and Wild Pegasus, these new age smaller guys aren't trying to blow their bodies up to pretend they aren't short. And Cena, ADR, Orton, and Fella can't be headlining everything while folks wait for Phil to show up.

>But you've got to have patience to build these guys, and Vince

Stubborness is a positive trait sometimes. But having Cena become Hogan 92 (winning even when the story doesn't call for it at all) in an era where info, WWE network, the IWC, etc. are all pushing for things to change more often is bad idea jeans fo sho.

It is unfortunate cuz I think Cena is a physical hoss and a helluva company guy. Circumstances like lack of options don't hurt, but dude has been there for them. John has proven that he can go when he gets in there with someone who can go too. He's like Super Lex Luger in this regard...he's just about the most carriable wrestler who has been dubbed as 'bad' ever. His matches hit a wall and he get's stuck with 'jump up really fast, AA, pin' as a finish when he's set to win. He needs more 'gotcha' roll-up wins. And no...I'm not talking the distraction roll-up that we get 3 of every week. Or hell...give me a top rope AA 2x a year.

The challenge now...there's such a gap between the legacy stars (HHH, Rock, Brock, Taker) + Cena and everyone else. And the last guy they got stuck pushing (DB) hurt his neck and is in a surgery cycle. And now, they are pushing the least talent in-ring guy from the Shield because his hot tag murder-fests makes them think they have a new Batista (remember when he was good?). Orton is headed to Kane-land.

So...Cena needs to start laying down more. If he beats Brock, I see fans losing it in a bad way.

Sometimes shit doesn't work out that way, but a feud is an exercise in getting everyone over in their given roles. Even when he's leveling his adversaries' heat with bad Photoshop jokes, Cena's a pro at letting his opponents hit their beats in promo segments. And just forget about the Bellas on commentary. That's when they're the absolute worst.

My friend who hosted a WM watching party this year ordered the network the day of, which I bet a lot of people who are current subscribers did. I'd expect they are going to lose a ton of subscribers around early October at the latest.

They are all up on it. It is late but at least they are getting more info out. They have an awesome product on their hands. The functionality is crazy nice. It is wrestling nerd paradise. And they could get crazy and have way more stuff. And that's BEFORE they buy some more shiznit. The weekly shows, DVD libraries, whatever awa and mid south stuff they have, etc...

I wish they could get back in bed with a japan fed. I can only imagine how jacked up all of the puro fed video libraries are. Quality, completeness, who owns what, etc. This is especially wild considering the cross-fed stuff that has happened. Hell, even nwa and wcw'd stuff is shaky enough once you go back far enough.

In response to Reply # 0

what-a-maneuver! (c) vince

(supposedly the company's been making the production crew book/pay for their own travel and accommodations too)

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. said Thursday that it will slash 7% of its workforce after costs of ramping up its online-subscription service WWE Network helped put it into the red in the second quarter.

WWE reported a net loss of $14.5 million, compared with a net profit of $5.2 million a year earlier. The staff cuts, and other cost-cutting moves, would help boost operating income before depreciation and amortization by $30 million in 2015, WWE said. A company spokesman said the cuts, which will total around 50 to 60 people, will affect all business units.

Yeah...the Bellas just aren't bringing the chops necessary to draw sympathy. And they are Ill-equipped to be the ones who end up giving Steff the ass-whooping she deserves for her latest super heel run.

To me, they botched the whole 'Kane killed DB' part of the story. The 'DB is little and couldn't even start his title reign before breaking down physically in a major way' story from the authority has not been sufficiently countered by anyone. As a result, it dropped the value of almost errbody involved with his run from summerfest 2013 to now. It is impressive really. Only Cena looks like a swell guy who just got got one night in a match against his bro inlaw (if/when he marries the other Bella). And steff is steff so she's good too. Kane, Orton, Bootista, HHH the wrestler? All bitches.

At least I trust steff to be super chickenshit at summerfest to give Brie as much to work with as possible. If she screws the pooch after that...ehh...

I mean is the angle THAT over?

Is it the most popular Bella storyline of all time? Obviously, but main eventing 2 straight Raws is just trying to hard to make this the main story.

You have so many compelling matches on this card and this match is getting the biggest hype?

Brock and Cena were out, shield implosion is almost overcooked. Hell, dean is less mad than before, Rollins is holding a MiTB that he can't cash in cuz Cena and Brock and reigns moved on so damn quick, Orton trying to be threatening again is gonna need some time to rebuild, hillbilly Jesus and his crew have almost no traction after losing to Jericho about as clean as possible the first time, and we know they don't trust ziggler like that to put him and miz at the end (even though summerfest show theft is on their mind). Let's see... What else...russev (koslov) and thwagger is what it is and they know they are lucky that folks are buying slightly less racist uncle. And you know Phil's wife and suicide girl Paige ain't main eventing nothin even though this 'what turn...I love AJ' thing has me loving on sg paige.

Hmmm...looking at all of that...summerfest isn't looking too bad. A lot of folks have a chance to hit big. No one will remember who mained the raws before if this goes well. I'm now comfortable with the idea that the wwe is trying to prep everyone for Brock not beating Cena. How they handle that could decide if the nerds turn on Cena for good. Hopefully they don't stay so stubborn. You can't have the guy who beat Taker at mania lay down for 'jump up, quick aa --> pin.. Cenawins lol'. They know that, right? Right?

There's apparently talk of Brock holding the title to Mania where he'll lose it to Reigns and, with the impending return of Bryan, I'm curious to see how the title picture plays out over the next year.

If you do that then you are basically doing it as Brock is this giant monster who just beats people up and nobody can beat.

I love the storyline, but what you'll wind up doing is building up face after face who just get squashed by Lesnar and look bad in the end. Almost the reverse of what Cena has done.

Typically a really long heel title reign involves a lot of chickenshit heel antics and cheating which I don't think you'd see out of Lesnar.

Well that and the fact that he fights once every 4 months.

when he takes that title, I think they'll realise he can't hold it til Mania because he can't just keep having feuds where Heyman comes out every week and talks him up. (Curious to know how many matches he's signed on for for the rest of the year too?)

It's going to take some expert booking to maintain people's interests in a champion who may have difficulty in building genuine steam for his feuds. Heyman may have to align himself with some guys so the face can get some action each week, and some beat downs too.

I am interested to know who they'll put in front of him for his matches though - they may opt for a Cena rematch post-Summerslam, but when they move on from him, who will it be?

Very interesting.

I don't put it past WWE to be dumb enough to have him just lose, but I could also see an ending where he gets himself Dq'ed

He has made it clear all he is really interested in is just beating up Cena, maybe we see him just dismantle Cena and lose the match by DQ, similar to his rumble match with Big Show but longer and an actual match first.

with everything going on in the company right now they need a clear-cut decision. anything that needs to be clarified on raw or decided on NOC will just piss off network subscribers when renewals are coming up.

edit: wait, this is WWE. they will fuck this up.

>i mean you see how they put cesaro in the freezer.

Then they want sympathy when they are constantly one-two injuries away from Cena wearing belts like a necklace. Years ago, cats were missing a year when everyone took turns having neck injuries. And guess what...other folks were over, winning titles, having storylines, getting into matches with random folks, etc. And it was on. Not perfect, but on.

Cesaro..someone must be hatin backstage. He's falling into mechanic territory bigtime. Or enhancement talent. Or JTTS. None of it is good when the storyline is that WWE brass is 'dying for new stars'. It is like they don't remember that it took YEARS of matches, pushes, and Jim Ross taking them seriously on the mic to get The Rock or Stone Cold. And shiiid, HHH damn near went over the whole damn roster and got latched onto Steph to get all the way over.

The WWE has a small mass of ex-indy guys with skillsets who can work multiple styles..it is a damn shame if they don't end up with some more main guys out of it..Rollins, Cesaro, Jeans Ambrose, etc. It ain't like HHH getting in shape long enough to work for a few months a year is gonna work out for them. They're already about to lose Taker for good as some point. And Cena is going down the mountain physically.

Good lord...what happens with Devitt and KENTA!? Those dudes are not even new-age big guys (or what I call Stone Cold big), and they aren't exactly going to be doing their moves on Sheamus.

Everything seemed in place following his Mania Battle Royal win - he was getting cheered and seemed ready to progress but then he got paired with Heyman - which I think people were excited about - but it didn't end up making sense: Cesaro's over but Heyman's doing everything he can to get booed so I think it all just lost traction. Big shame but I'm convinced it's not over for him at all.

It sucks but it also makes sense, he wouldn't fit in the main storylines right now anyway.

He isn't going anywhere, and hopefully they'll have a good moment to turn him face, get him super over and give him the push he was starting to have again. As long as he plays by all the backstage rules he'll get his moment

When they blow the shield up and reigns is the one who is in main events even though he's getting obvious 'he ain't reddy y'all' kids gloves treatment, they have room. And when Kane is still functioning (poorly) as the heel authority figure's go-to 'I'm setting you up to get your ass kicked tonight' heel opponent, they absolutely have room. For instance, Cesaro could be in that 'tonight, you're gonna face *heel who whoops people's ass here*' role and make everyone look amazing pretty easily. As long as he won half the time, folks would buy that and the threat of eating euro uppercuts and getting thrown around would be excellent raw match material. He could be like a better Evolution first run Batista...the heel hitman who is grows tired of being the undervalued hitman before eventually turning. The Shield just ran the same game and it equalled six-man excellence for months. We could be sitting around watching Rollins/cesaro vs Ambrose/reigns tag title matches and Uso/hillbilly #1 contender joints.

Once his character changed enough times that he didn't really have a direction, he became a mechanic/jtts who was usually given 9 minutes when he needed twice as long for the way he works. He would've been a great wwe 80s heel. And yeah I get it that he was basically Mexican Ted DiBiase, but still...he was a good wrestler with a good feel for nuance who got Lugered and then blamed when he couldn't replace the irreplaceable best days Rey Jr. with the Mexican crowd.

WWE News: More details on Alberto Del Rio firing
Alberto Del Rio
Details are still sketchy regarding Thursday's firing of Al Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) by WWE.

The story going around is that he slapped a a Social Media manager, at this week's television, but there are a variety of different stories going around regarding what led to this.

Based on sketchy stories and what wrestlers have been talking about, at catering, somebody asked the person to clean off his plate. The person joked something along the lines of how that's Del Rio's job. Del Rio found out and confronted him. As the story goes, he didn't apologize and then smiled at him, and Del Rio slapped him.

The belief is he will have a 90 day non-compete, which is likely to apply to TNA and AAA, both of which have interest in him. AAA would certainly be interested in him for the company's U.S. expansion.
