style so that's going to be next hot trend in the NBA. If you can't get a big 3 play international ball so why not go for one of the best international coaches.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Blatt has a ton of experience and success at the International level and is well respected as an X's and O's guy. He's also got a reputation for being pretty intense and demanding.

He's had a lot of success building underdog squads that succeed through good execution and team play. Can he get NBA players to buy into his system without any NBA credentials on his resume?

Dude also has maintained strong ties to NBA teams/personnel over the years, so he's not exactly completely alien to the league. If he didn't take the Cavs job, he was going to be Kerr's second-in-command on the Warriors.

And I know it's easy to shit on the Euroleague, but analysts and coaches have been jocking his Maccabi teams for a while now.

Give me proven NBA experience over an unknown coach any day of the week. The only thing working in their favor is that this deal isn't as bad as it appeared at first.

I remember reading about him with Maccabi (they had Parker and Baston) and CSKA Moscow (I think they had Lynn Greer at that time). Princeton guy and a member of the tribe. Nuff said. He will be successful.

This ain't Eddie Jordan, this dude learned the Princeton offense directly from the source. I don't even look at him as an entry-level coach to be honest.

But Ramsay, Motta and Fitch are guys who spring to mind, plus you have Larry Brown who technically started in the pros (ABA) but certainly succeeded at both levels. In this instance, we're dealing with a guy who coached men, who coached pros. I think that is a big hurdle for some college coaches, but it won't be for him.

i think the salient point here is that we've seen successful nba coaches come from a wide variety of backgrounds (cba, ncaa, nba asst, video coordinator, tv booth) and there's no logical reason to think that a euroleague coach can't possibly succeed, esp. one who's had the success over there that blatt has.

now i do think he'll have an acclimation period, particularly when it comes to coaching playoff series. as far as i know, all the euro cups are single knockout, so i don't think blatt has ever coached a 7 gm series and had to make adjustments to beat a team 4 times. there'll be a significant learning curve there. which is why i think all the ppl picking cleveland to immediately come out of the east next season are crazy.

You're really reaching with that one, guys like Spo was groomed by one of the all-time greats in the NBA for 14 before he had a head coaching job.

It's different than a guy that has never played or coached or been an assistant in the NBA to come in and run a NBA team and manage NBA players.

and a lot of guys that have played or coached or been an assistant in the NBA have come in to run NBA teams and failed miserably. i'll withhold my judgement and see what the guy can do.

loads and loads of knowledgeable ppl affiliated with pro ball say that blatt's one of the world's best coaches. you have a well documented history of hating on all things euro, and hadn't even heard of the man til a month ago. not really a tough decision on which opinion to value more lol.

really about X's and O's as it is managing and motivating multiple high paid personalities and getting them to buy into your system and execute it at a high level.

Blatt's not going to come over here and call any magical plays that nobody's ever seen before.

Can he coach Lebron, let Lebron be Lebron, and still maintain his authoritative position as a coach? How will he respond the first time Lebron challenges him? Can he get Kyrie to commit on the defensive end? I've Love comes can he make him ok with sacrificing stats? If guys like Bennett and Dion there can he motivate them to play at a high level on a nightly basis?

For the most part players in Europe have a totally different mentality than American players. Can Blatt adjust?

what was quickly found was that 1. his system was built for the regular season and not the playoffs 2. he's a dick and his players eventually start to hate him after a year or two.

I've heard reports that Blatt is "intense" and "doesn't tolerate any nonsense", it will be interesting to see how he relates to american players that make more than him and their egos.

style.

a black coach has to be a "player's coach" (most overused cliche during hirings) and have a lot of discipline and have a lot of success.

i do think there are too many dismissive situations with black coaches to ignore. but i don't see what that has to do with some hypothetical coach in brazil.

they have ONE team challenging them in the whole damn conference. no way they do not make the ecf short of some sort of horrific slew of injuries. honestly i am certain they could lose on of their big three and still make the ECF, and i'm also certain they could make the finals. in terms of a seven-game series, yes, the competition is THAT weak.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

that being said.

I would like to believe Blatt is a good coach and could coach at the NBA level.

however, the Cavs... suck.
Yes, even with Bron, Ky, and Kev.

their bigs are pretty poor, their play at the SG position is poor, and they are way too dependent on those 3 to do anything of note

not to mention they have been Cuban B-ing his offense in place of ISO/PnR bullshit that only works because it's either Bron or Ky.

and LeBron has even taken to straight up Kobe-ing in some games (NOPE... you saw him take that 90 foot 3 and somehow make it)

that last point makes me think that a new figurehead is coming.

I don't know. Maybe Mark Jackson.

I didn't really want a retread. Blatt represented some sort of change, perhaps a move to "Spurs"-like basketball. instead, it looks like the worst of 'Postrophe

only to watch it actually implemented on teams like ATL

and again, it's not even his fault, because the team ain't really using it

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

first off, people realized how bad the cavs management was and how weak bron's supporting cast was generally. i don't recall mike brown being blamed to NEARLY the extent you're describing here. you're conflating two different situations (cavs, lakers).

that said, brown had YEARS and with a reasonable amount of continuity. blatt has had like 30 games with a totally new everything. new level to coach, very few returning players, etc.

i admit this cleveland thing has been a disappointment so far and blatt is a part of it, but this is too hard, too soon. like i said, i give cleveland until the ASG. they can sleepwalk until then. if they don't turn it on later in the season, OK, i would be concerned.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Mike Brown got most of his wins with a younger LeBron, guys who played more defense in what could be considered a TOTALLY different NBA (offensive wise), where they weren't playing the Euro "spacing" game as much.

Teams such as Orlando, who did follow that model (and had bigs to spare) just PnR-ed to oblivion against Mike Browns' Cavs.

last year, Mike Brown (and the attempt to force a playoff run) was a disaster. He couldn't do a single inbound play to save his life. even the defense (which he was known for) ... SUCKED. now granted, a lot of the personnel on that team acquired for a playoff run (Jarrett Jack, Andrew Bynum, Earl Clark, Deng), were all poor fits. The young players, including Kyrie, all regressed. Ask Michaelangelo Brown about offensive game planning and he looked unsurprisingly like Councilman Zach Reed talking about the price of tea in Chagrin Falls.

Mike Brown was the Andy Reid of the Cavs. He largely escaped the frying pan until the end. And when he came back, he lived in the frying pan

part of being a valuable coach is having your players respect you
nevermind that we're assuming this isn't blatt's system anyway
maybe he's trying run something that fits his personnel and the shit ain't working iono
has he explicitly said the team isn't doing what he'd prefer?
