"Bulls/Wiz Game Two"
Tue Apr-22-14 04:17 PM by RandomFact

We don't win this series if our frontcourt gets outplayed. Wall will probably play better tonight and the Bulls need to minimize the production from everyone else. It would probably help if someone on the Bulls scores points in the fourth, too.

I gots no prediction.

This is where I think we have an advantage.
I'm curious to see what Thibs does different this game.
More so on offense. Hopefully Noah touches the ball more.
And as I said in the other post, Jimmy drives more and gets to the line.

And speaking of Jimmy, is there any chance he sits for a breather? I know the answer to this question I'm just putting it out there.

And it probably hinders the energy he puts out on offense.

But yeah, aggressive Jimmy is usually a good thing. It's just impossible to go 100% on both ends every position. I wish Snell could give us more.

- I'm beginning to buy into that "Bulls have no extra gear for the playoffs" narrative. I thought it was bullshit but the Bulls coming out flat in a must win game is a bad look. We're getting beat to loose balls and have no energy.

- Their frontcourt is making all jumpers, Bulls need to adjust.

- Tony Snell should not get any minutes, I still don't understand why Thibs goes to him. He's a serviceable defender, but we need scoring and he's too passive to score. Should've experimented with Jimmer more over the regular season.

- I'm trying to be positive, but I don't see how a team that's dead last in the league in PPG can win a playoff series. Especially when our trademark defense has not shown up. We have one player on the team who can create his own shot, and he's 5'8. Management has not shown the ability to see the team's glaring weakness over the past 4 years.

a makeover that allows us to shift into a second gear come playoff time. getting a couple guys that can dribble more than three times and shoot properly would be a start.

Beal threw an elbow. Hinrich isn't the time to act tough and he's far from a dirty player, but he won't back down from an altercation and won't let players disrespect him.

Bulls needed something to get them going anyways, thanks Beal.

Wittman doesn't know the word adjustment.

Gortat is terrible on Pick and Roll D.

WE DO NOT CLOSE OUT WELL ON SHOOTERS.

We have some bad rotations.

We're as good as Beal and Ariza are hot. Wall can be so invisible at times.

Nene is moving well but I worry he'll break at any moment.

The refs sucked. More so for fouls they missed on the Wizards, but there were plenty of fuck ups that benefited the Wizards as well.

He's too stubborn in his substitutions. The overtime rotation clearly wasn't working and the floor spacing was horrible, bring in Dunleavy, that's what we got him for.

Part of me is hoping the Bulls get swept and it forces Thibs/GarPax to make the necessary changes. Instead of drafting players that "fit our culture" of defensive minded, offensively inept, hard working players to help us win a playoff series or two, we need to build a team that can get stops on defense and players who can make big shots when it counts against strong defenses. Do everything possible to get Melo, bring in an offensive assistant coach, and draft scorers. We have the defensive core of Jimmy, Noah, and Taj already, we need scoring.

I'll save it for the offseason thread, but I don't think the Bulls can win both games in Washington. They needed this one but came out flat, were unable to score when they needed to, had bad rotations, and choked it at the line.

Nah...this wasn't Thibs getting out-coached or dude being stubborn with his rotations...Bulls simply couldn't get buckets when we needed them....

in a tight game in the 4th they are not gonna be any better at creating their own shots. Who are they taking off the dribble? Maybe try a little Jimmer for a 3 ball for a spark but he's not creating his own shot when things tighten up.

This is a personnel problem. Even so, we didn't hit baskets at the end of the game AGAIN, and blew the 7 point lead we were starting to maintain.

And, we can't get stops down the stretch which should be our thing.

This will help end the talk from delusional Bulls fans thinking we don't need a superstar to truly do some damage in the playoffs...

I love our guys...They play like they are on a death march...They give up their bodies on defense...They are relentless and they don't take any rotations off...Thibs gets the most out of this team and on the low he truly deserved that COY over Pop...

But it's obvious we are in desperate need of real scorers/superstars to make some noise in the playoffs...

It;s funny...Everyone knows getting a player like Melo is a pipe dream...We all know the Bulls would have to give up a lot...But fuck it...Make it happen....It needs to be done....We simply can't score when we need a bucket...

If it takes Johnny and boys to knock us out the first round then so be it...We need a sobering moment....

They signed 3 dudes to be waivable trade bait at the end of the season to make the numbers work. Add dunny and two first round picks (one this yr and one next or miriotic) and I believe Phil bites.

NY gets a 13-14 mil trade exception, maybe an extra mil in waivable contracts, 2 picks and an asset that'll be off the books next summer.

We just have to convince Melo to take 19 for 5 yrs so that we might still be able to sign mirotic (if he's not included in the deal), resign DJ and whatever Draft pick we keep.

Watch some old video of Rose in college and in his first two years in the league...He's not a ball hogging player....Thibs needed him to be Superman, so that's what he did...But he's a really a guy that's a willing passer...And at this point, Rose just wants to contribute any way he can....

And don't think too much about defense...Melo is not a horrible defender...He's no worse that what Magic or Bird was on D...Thibs has already proven he can put anyone in that defensive system and D up...

Not trying to hate, not trying to piss off Bulls fans, but dude has missed 2 years in a row! You can't not sign melo out of fear him and rose won't work... not to mention, they will work, deng got plenty of shots with Rose, Melo will get more and that'll be fine... Joakim Noah is the type of player who WANTS to shoot less... Jimmy Butler doesn't seem like he wants a lot of shots either

It was over and the bulls had won. Only to see Brad Beal hit a jumper that started the comeback.

I was really impressed by the heart and toughness of both teams.

There were some horrendous calls down the stretch on both sides. Taj called that timeout, but i'll take that jumpball all day everyday.

Kirk's foul that sent him to the line wasn't a foul but Ball don't lie and he bricked anyway.

Great win for a young team, i'm excited to see where they can go in the future.

If they get out of this round they'll face the Pacers and that'll be a quick exit but I like what they've done.

As long as we can stay healthy and keep playing tight D, we can take this.

The only guy consistently hurting us was Augustin. We figured him out last night with Ariza.

Let's keep it going!!!!

But damn if the officiating wasn't some shit last night.

There's gonna be a lotta DRose plea-ing, Joakim flee-ing, by the time the Wiz finish this Round One beat-ing.

"The Bulls don't have a playoff gear"(c)Zach Lowe

True Story.

I don't know how many times we are gonna see a scrappy team that plays hard and defends every night end up above their station in the standings then get beat in the playoffs once things like effort can't be counted as an advantage over talent.

NBA season, like 3 of the 4 seasons in major (you're welcome, hockey) pro sports in this country, is too damn long.

Funny thing is the Wiz aren't even playing *that well* (Beal/Wall weren't great game one, Wall could go to the rack way more than he has, they missed half their free throws last night) and they've been in Chicago.

The Bulls got a shot Friday night but even if they win that, this shit is over like Mike.

I think you got a little too happy on this one Bomb...lol

Rose plea coppin?...The kid hasn't been on the court for a full season in two plus years....No one is coppin pleas on Rose...If anything it's made fans sober up to the fact that we need to rework this team all together....

As for Noah, this is not at all shocking...He has trouble against big bodies...

But really, this all comes down to the same ol story with the Bulls...We have no true offensive outlets...And don't act like the basketball writers were not calling for the demise of the Bulls when they traded Deng away...They overachieved with a more than respectable record...

In other words, the Wizards handing us some L's is not at all shocking...

I really don't derive any great pleasure from Bull L's or Wiz W's, just saying it's over.

Agreed, was saying that before the series started when some of the Bulls contingent were talking ECF & maybe Rose coming back.

I didn't have enough faith in the Wizards based on history and my lack of really watching them a ton this regular season to guarantee a DC victory but thought this would be a very tough series for Chicago to win and that would likely be their ceiling.

"Bulls contingent" is hyperbole though...No sane Bulls fans was screaming ECF...That Rose comeback shit was press driven...Bulls fans were giving that the side-eye...You trying too much with this....lol

Hell most of us were shocked that we were winning games after we traded Deng....No one thought DJ A. would be able to get buckets like he did in the reg. season...This entire season has been gravy...

A lot of analysts picked the Wizards in this series...And for good reason...The Bulls got to the playoffs this year on GREAT coaching, defense and smoke and mirrors...

By no means is this series over...I still say it goes to 6...But I believe we are just not good enough on the offensive end...It use to be the only thing that was in the Bulls way during the pre-injured Rose period was the champs...Now? Not so much...

Which ones were picking the Wiz? Most of them I read were picking Chicago to win. Nobody was hopping on the Wiz bandwagon till just now.

A few on TNT...and some NBA columnists...Even the ones that picked the Bulls were doing so in 6/7 games....

Like I said...this series is not over...Bulls could rattle off 3-4 straight...But the point is clear...This team was never that good offensively this season....Thibs just happens to be a great ass coach who can get wins with me and you at the 2 and 3....

Playoffs is a whole other ballgame though...

I'd say at least 75% of them picked the Bulls to win this series.

Two people hardly makes a contingent...These are the same heads who think we still could be Heat with this lineup...

On the real, I think it comes down to the Bulls being knocked out this series for some of these fans to sober up....Most Bulls fans know what needs to be done...

There is a small minority who think Rose will come back return to form...If that happens then I will be one happy mufucka...But I know that won't be the case....We got to make some serious moves....

Let it go...lol...That's all we are saying...The Rose hate (plea coppin) is silly at this point...That kid is struggling just trying to get back on the floor and play for 15 minutes without his knee exploding...

What Bulls fans r really wondering at this point is can we get Melo...

Hey...u never know....

We got the draft picks (which the Knicks desperately need)...We got the bodies that can come off the books...We got Boozer on amnesty watch...And the cap has risen (as another Bulls head has noted in this thread...)

Anything can happen, Bomb...But we have to be willing to go all in....And trust...a first round exit by the hands of the Wiz will force the Bulls to do something pretty fucking seriously....

Report: Chicago Bulls 'Increasingly Optimistic' About Landing Carmelo Anthony
By Grant Hughes , National NBA Featured Columnist
Apr 21, 2014

"The NBA salary cap is reportedly rising, and with it, Carmelo Anthony's chances of joining the Chicago Bulls as a free agent this summer."....Per Marc Stein of ESPN:

But sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Bullseven before these developments came to light Friday night via noted NBA salary-cap expert Larry Coonwere already feeling increasingly optimistic behind the scenes about their chances of convincing Anthony to leave the Knicks in the wake of New York's failure to make the playoffs.

No matter what Chicago does, it can't offer 'Melo the fifth year or extra cash the New York Knicks can. But by amnestying Carlos Boozer and trimming salary elsewhere, the Bulls can make a very competitive pitch in the neighborhood of $16 million-$18 million per year.

More aggressive moves involving trades or buyouts could push that figure to nearly $20 million.

With so many variables, Chicago's cap specifics are tough to pin down. But one thing's for sure: The Bulls' chances of adding Anthony are better than ever.

There's no question 'Melo would address a major need in Chicago. Anyone watching the Bulls struggle to score all season (they ranked 28th in the league in offensive rating, per NBA.com) knows the team desperately needs somebody to put the ball in the hole.

And the closing stretch of Chicago's Game 1 loss to the Wizards drove that point home even more forcefully.

Anthony's penchant for isolation basketball doesn't lend itself to high-efficiency offense, but there's really no way for the Bulls to be any less efficient on that end anyway. They'd gladly take a handful of 'Melo one-on-one sets to close out games at this point.

Slotting Anthony alongside recently crowned Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah, per NBA.com, a healthy (fingers crossed) Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson would create a terrifyingly good starting five. Potential moves to clear cap space in order to get 'Melo might mean the bench is a little thin, but with a lineup like that, it won't be difficult to attract bargain vets on cheap deals.

There should be concerns that Anthony will disrupt the Bulls' blue-collar, defense-first identity. But it seems clear now that the Bulls are a notch below championship contention as long as they struggle to score this badly. So a gamble on Anthony could be worth it.

Besides, 'Melo has already articulated his respect for head coach Tom Thibodeau and his system. Perhaps the transition will be smoother than expected.

it would also help discourage Melo from thinking that's a team he would risk giving up 30 million to join.

Carmelo is not going there or anywhere this offseason.

"The NBA salary cap is reportedly rising, and with it, Carmelo Anthony's chances of joining the Chicago Bulls as a free agent this summer."....Per Marc Stein of ESPN:

That's an extra 5 mil....

That's on top of $17 mil coming off the books from amnestying Boozer and the money they got off the books from the guys they specifically picked up this season to make a run for Melo....

Will it be tough to pull off?...Sure...But the Bulls can def. make this happen...The only issue (they would trade Taj in a heartbeat)is whether Feel will try to ask for the rights to the kid we have coming from overseas...That's should be non starter....

But $24-25 million ain't too far off from $30 mil
