Because I'm 95% sure that when I was memorizing the countries of the world in school and their locations (and thus when I was achieving my peak awareness of the majority of the countries of the world), Eritrea was not present.

I was learning countries when there was still a Yugoslavia, if that's a good time reference.

I need to re-visit world geography one of these days.

1st American, blah blah blah

I'm not knocking Meb's citizenship

but at the end of the day, an african long distance runner still won (too, at the least)

it's just comical, no reason to get mad

the ticker reads, 1st American to win marathon, etc...

and then you see the name Meb Keflezighi

Congrats to Meb

having run my first marathon last year

the pace these runners can achieve is incredible

a moot point considering our president is Barack Hussein Obama.

Basically Ethiopia used to be allied w/ the USSR when USSR collapsed so did the Ethiopian gov't which is when the Eritreans won the war of independence in 91. My father actually said my name was influenced by the series of events that took place after the USSR collapse which were unthinkable a couple of years before.

that was over 20 years ago - so you knew the majority of the countries in the world and their locations on the map when you were in elementary school?
