6. "When was Eritrea made an independent nation on Western maps?" In response to Reply # 1
Because I'm 95% sure that when I was memorizing the countries of the world in school and their locations (and thus when I was achieving my peak awareness of the majority of the countries of the world), Eritrea was not present.
I was learning countries when there was still a Yugoslavia, if that's a good time reference.
I need to re-visit world geography one of these days.

Which must have been after I stopped watching Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, because I don't remember Eritrea being on their map of Africa lol...
16. "Eritrea gained independence after the USSR collapsed " In response to Reply # 6
Basically Ethiopia used to be allied w/ the USSR when USSR collapsed so did the Ethiopian gov't which is when the Eritreans won the war of independence in 91. My father actually said my name was influenced by the series of events that took place after the USSR collapse which were unthinkable a couple of years before.

that was over 20 years ago - so you knew the majority of the countries in the world and their locations on the map when you were in elementary school?
