"So Morey built the Rockets based on the Wade/Shaq Heat blueprint"
Sat Apr-19-14 05:08 AM by FILF

The parallel b/w how Morey built 2013-4 Rockets & how Riley built the 2004-5 Heat is mind boggling.

-Riley traded a bunch of pieces for Shaq in the off-season after drafting Wade the year before.
-Morey signed Dwight in the off-season after trading for Harden for a bunch of picks they year before.

Harden/Wade (Young & upcoming superstars)
Dwight/Shaq (both Orlando alums)
Parsons/Eddie (glue guy)
Lin/Damon (wild card)
Pat Bev/Dooling (scrapper)
T-Jones/Haslem (an unproven 2nd year starter)
Asik/Zo (bangers)

Even their coaches (Stan Van/McHale) run a laissez faire system.

The difference is that the Heat were a much better defensive team & had more vets on their squad. I was also shocked that Shaq (who had been supposedly robbed of the MVP by Nash) put up Dwight-ish type numbers in the post-season.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

Maybe your definition of a glue guy is different but he's the closet thing to "The pro-typical glue guy of the past 5 years" (Deng) they have on the team.

-Defend
-Rebound
-Score
-Make plays
-Can play multiple positions

So where did I go wrong again?

Last I checked Deng was an All-Star & folks referred to him as a glue guy. If you don't think he's versatile then you must not have watched him play since college. He's a glue guy right along w/ Batum, Born Ready' Iggy & 'em. They excel in different areas but they can all contribute in multiple areas.

Again if there is a cat on a certain team that fulfilled the following duties then they are glue guys:
-Defend
-Rebound
-Score
-Make plays
-Can play multiple positions

Bron is a glue guy, Pippen was a glue guy......being a glue guy doesn't denote being a role player. It's just a label for a player that contributes in multiple areas & can play different position thus can fill a hole as needed & keep everything together.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

Like I said Deng has been labeled as "Theeeeee Glue Guy" in the NBA since D-Rose emerged & he didn't have to be "The Guy" along w/ Ben Jordan.

like OE alluded to the rockets roster is WAY better on paper
especially when you consider that dwight is in the midst of his prime (28) and shaq was already in fat mode with lower leg injuries

>like OE alluded to the rockets roster is WAY better on paper
The Rockets are a TERRIBLE defensive team....that should count for something. Besides, Wade was the best player in the Eastern conference & the Heat were on their way to beating the 65 win Pistons & going to the Finals before Wade got injured in Gm 5. Not to mention their wild-card Damon Jones was on fire through out the whole post-season..something I doubt Lin will be able to replicate.

>especially when you consider that dwight is in the midst of
>his prime (28) and shaq was already in fat mode with lower leg
>injuries
Last I checked Shaq finished SECOND in the MVP voting.....& folks still to this day claim that he was robbed by Nash. Meanwhile Dwight's prime is 18/12 while regressing defensively...let's not even talk about drawing double team b/c Damon Jones was feasting off of Shaq.

You can definitely argue Parson is better than Eddie but Eddie was ballin in the 2005 post-season. Even then, Wade/Shaq/Eddie/Damon/Haslem>>>Harden/Dwight/CP/Lin/T-Jones

this is closer but shaq was still on the other side of his career and worse defensively/rebounding
if you wanna say wade/shaq >>>> harden/dwight it's close but i won't argue cause i think harden and dwight are obviously underachieving in aspects of their game
but the rockets roster still way better just off the strength of having two "starters" on the bench (lin/asik), parsons, bev, and the rest

>but wade was better than harden is now i agree
I'm talking about the best player in the 2005 Eastern Conference playoffs. Shaq was the best player on the Heat until the post-season began & Wade took the mantle.

>this is closer but shaq was still on the other side of his
>career and worse defensively/rebounding
Again Shaq was the best big-man in the regular season. Meanwhile Dwight was getting his lunch eaten by Perk/Jermaine O'Neal THIS SEASON plus got embarrassed by 37 year old Timmay in the post-season a season ago..now I think of it Shaq got handled by Ben Wallace in the clincher of '04 Finals before he left the Lakers...just like Dwight got thrown out before he left the Lakers (just another random parallel b/w these 2 teams). Of course the Heat were built to win a chip right away while Harden/Dwight have a 3-4 year window..but I doubt Dwight will ever reach '05 Shaq level.

>but the rockets roster still way better just off the strength
>of having two "starters" on the bench (lin/asik)
-What exactly did Lin do since the all-star break?...(LMAO at him being a starter...Shawn gave up on him & of all ppl you're bigging him up. General Greivis is a better player than Weak-Lin-K)
-Asik isn't going to get enough minutes to be anymore impactful than Zo unless Dwight gets in foul trouble. Besides, Zo was still a better scorer than Asik will ever be w/ his stone hands & Zo was also as good a rim protector. Asik is just the better rebounder but I'm not sure how much a game changer that is since they have Dwight/T-Jones & Pat Bev/Parson are very good rebounders. He's basically a Dwight insurance since they can't play together.

>parsons,
>bev, and the rest
Damon/Dooling/Eddie = CP/Bev/Lin...unless Cp plays out of his mind or Lin earns his money.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!
