"WIZARDS MANIA: THE PLAYOFFS IS OURS, YOUNG!"

We're back, Wiz Nuts.

Hello, true believers. You know who you are. I'm not just talking about the homers, of which I totally am. I'm talking about LES BOULEZ fans. Fans that stepped over sticky piles of discarded food at the Cap Center to see my favorite player Ladell "Pork" Eackles waddle up and down the court. The fans who cheered on Michael Adams (WHO?).

The fans who believed in the power of Wes Unseld's hairline. You are the fans that matter. You are the reason we're here today. YOU are the Wiz-Nuts that matter. Fairfweather folks, the line starts at the back. If you was down then, you is down now.

This post will serve as the hub of us detailing how we will kick the Chicago Bulls' ass up and down the United Center and the Verizon Center. The Wizards Nations is primed and ready. WE WILL FIND VICTORY!

GO WIZARDS!

They have completed step 1.

Glad the Nets gave us the 5th seed. Wiz have no answer for Derozan. Still this is the time for John and Bradley to shine and for Randy to show us if he deserves another contract with this team. I am very excited yet very nervous. Very nervous.

Wall and Beal icing late game free throws, team playing good consistent defense the whole game, not giving up when they were down by 13, coming back and playing steady and consistent.

If they can shake off the jitters and be more conscious passing and offensive rebounding, an upset is certainly possible.

hope the playoff jitters are out of the way. i can see beal struggling with jimmy butler for a bit but wall's gotta step up.

loved the team clamping down on the glass in the second half and wittman milking every minute andre miller could give.

seemed like everyone was crowing about how this was the ideal matchup for chicago. fuck outta here!

Wall disappeared at times.

Nene is great.

Gortat is great.

Gotta keep those two big lugs.

Webster has to be money.

Beal is still too streaky for me.

I like how Witty coached tonight, hate on haters.

Booker is underpaid but let's not get carried away here.

Man, our bench is thin.

EG stays winning trades.

Nobody's wishing Jan Vesely played yesterday.

Healthy Nene is the difference between a team that is just borderline playoff worthy in the east to a team that pushes the heat or pacers next round.

Can't wait to see how they respond to their success in game two and then at home in game 3.

Had the jitters but kudos to Wall for staying aggressive.

Miller was huge. We possibly lose that game without his contribution.

Made Witt look like a genius.

I hope they don't treat game 2 like they're playing with house money. Stay aggressive and step on their necks.

I can't believe this team held their composure. Wittman is coaching like he got sense, Nene playing like its Denver, Beal doing clutch things, and Wall still hasn't had a monster game yet. Cheers to this team. Hope they close things out at home.

Wall stayed under control and lead his team. didnt play the hero and kept turnovers down. Could have cracked under the pressure many times.

They all hit free throws in the clutch and defensively they stepped up in the 4th after the bulls were killing them with the picks and screens.

Beal also might have just made a leap. That ninja is starting to lose consciousness a bit with them threes.

Nene is abusing the DPOY and earning every cent of his contract.

Each game is a new test though. If these wizards are truly the better team, they gotta come home and step on the bulls necks.

They gotta stop getting these big leads only to lose them or let the other team get close. I mean, I don't expect them to keep a 17pt lead the whole game, but they really shouldn't have let them get closer than 8 or so points.

Bulls couldn't take the lead until midway through the third quarter. Against a team with a proven offense, they can't have that type of lapse.

And FREE THROWS!!!! Geez, we gotta keep Nene off the line. They make them either one half or the other. Thankfully they made them in the clutch late in games 1 and 2. But you can't keep leaving double digit points at the stripe.

Just the possibility of playing the weakened pacers or hawks has got to give them a little extra motivation. They need to close this out tomorrow and focus on how to take advantage of whatever is causing the pacers to be dysfunctional.

I hope this team doesn't get too ahead of themselves. I would love for them to reach the ECF but it takes a lot of focus for them to do so and even in this series they have shown a propensity to lose focus. But either way I am still excited to see them close this series out.

not just the opportunity with teams ahead, but with the potentially temporary way the roster is composed.

Who knows how long it will take to recreate this chemistry next season with 1-2 new starters (assuming gortat and/or ariza leave for a bigger deal). Most of the bench could depart as well.

There are a few interesting acquisitions the team could make now that its competative... So maybe next year's team is even better. But is not a given and i hope that adds to their intensity right now.

Only because the Wiz do tend to let heroes be heroes from time to time. I feel like for all the shit he's been taking Paul George might come back on some Hercules type shit and drop 800 points on us.

Atlanta really doesn't have that guy to go to. That elite scorer type dude that's gonna erupt at any minute...

if the pacers get their ish together, this is not gonna be easy. they dodged a bullet and have an us against the world vibe...

Hibbert and west could cancel out gortat and nene. Wall over hill is obvious, so is george over ariza (probably). stevenson v. beal is gonna be interesting seeing as beal isnt a great defender and we didnt really have to guard multiple offensive options last series.

stealing game 1 would be huge.

Should they focus on george and force the rest of the team to beat them, or let george get his and shut down the other starters?

I think they let george get his, tire him over over 6-7 games, and make sure no one else gets hot.

I don't get this obvious advantage that the Pacers have in the middle. has everyone forgotten that Hibbert's looked like dog shit until Saturday? If Ariza locks up George or slows him down, where is the Pacers' advantage?

In response to Reply # 71

The wiz had the perfect first round match up against CHI and indy has better shooters and more depth. There were some defensive errors last series that would have been exploited by a better offensive team.

that said, its a series that the wiz could win in 5 or 6 if they are really peaking and not just succeeding due to a favorable match up.

Game one will speak a lot to who the real wiz are.

I think we're going to come into game 1 out for blood and eager to prove we're actually a good playoff basketball team. Pair that with what I expect to be a hungover Pacers squad and I think we're going to be alright.

From there though who knows.

Let players write their talking points for them. How many times did we hear someone from the Pacers organization say that this was a better matchup for them? FOH

Hibbert's soft and George won't get off vs. Ariza

Our bench is sorta thin fellas. That hasn't changed from the start of the year. You know Professor Miller and Gooden are mid-season rentals, but the rest of the bench is ??????????

*LOOKS SQUARELY AT WEBSTER AND HIS CONTRACT*

Like dude, a good 9-11 pts off the bench is all we need from you.

I'm also worried Gortat is a little too finesse at times. Several times during the Chicago series, his J was broken. I literally HATE seeing him take a jumper. Just try and draw a foul. He's much better at the line.

And at times, they really do forget to make the extra pass. Open shooters were missed several times during Game 1 and an 0-12 shooting stretch. Certain times open cats were too hesitant to shoot and drove into traffic.

*sigh*

But until then, it's a GREAT ride..and I'll enjoy it until it ends.

I thought they would lose Game 1 as the Pacers had some momentum and Hibbert wasn't a complete zombie in Game 7.

I have no logical reason to believe that the Pacers should win tonight but at the same time I can't see the Wiz going 5-0 in road playoff games and being up 2-0 on the Pacers.

Just want them to stick to what they've been doing, play smart basketball and make Indiana work.

if the same pacers show up, we should win by 20. If the pacers switch things up, get more shooters on the floor and kill us with screens and picks, then i think we lose.

There were lots of complaints about thibs not adjusting and playing his best 5 players more often. I wonder if vogel will make the same mistake. There are matchups that the pacers can use against our weaknesses if they want them. Beal, wall, and miller have trouble fighting through picks and scola and west could hit jumpers all night. If not that, stevenson can get to the basket and try to get gortat or nene in foul trouble.

Miami should be able to do this with bosh, wade and lebron pretty consistently and have the added element of kicking it out to a shooter for 3 also.

yup. there's no lebron on this squad. everyone has to lean on everyone else. last round, there was a different leading scorer in every game. i hope gortat has a big game tonight.

i wonder what the plan is if indy goes small before the last minute of the game.

Hibbert will probably have a chip on his shoulder for a quarter or so to make it interesting, then he'll shrink again.

As long as we don't let Born Ready or PG get off together (pause) we still have a great shot.

Martell Webster needs to wake up though. Gooden isn't going to continue to carry the bench by himself.

Seriously, it's weird cause that group was really kinda sad even though they had promise.

Thing that kills me though is when they first got traded, supposedly McGee & Young were tweeting how they were glad to be gone from a bad org.

REALLY? Who made it bad? You mofos were the g'darn starters! How are you gonna talk about the teams sucked, when you were a starter on the team.

And then the gall of these mofos. When they first got traded, neither of them cracked starting lineups. Young couldn't beat Randy Foye out of a starting spot here, then went to the Clips, and still couldn't beat Foye into the lineup. You let career journeyman Randy fuckin' Foye outplay you on two coasts, you need to shut the fuck up.

McGee couldn't beat Mozgov or Faried out of any starting time and first and then continued to make highlight reels for the wrong reasons. And dude has been in the league how long, and still has no post game?

And Blatche......yo, if it wasn't for Avery Johnson, he'd be out of the league right today. The book on him from the beginning was that he had all the tools, and none of the drive. Still pretty much true. Then whined about not getting any time behind Jamison and Butler, two more talented, more experienced players that he didn't take the trouble to learn from. And where is he today? Riding the bench behind two more talented, more experienced players that he still hasn't learned shit from.

And then we have Mr. Jordan "I can be better than Jordan" Crawford. Almost as unrepentant a gunner as Nick Young. He actually could have been a Jamal Crawford type, but he whined about playing behind an young, spectacular back court with a talented point guard and gifted 2. Went to the Celtics, failed at being The Man there (plus the C's were tanking.) and where is he now? Playing behind a young spectacular back court with a talented point guard and gifted 2.

I can't believe we played all these non-progressing mofo's as starters and the future of the org at one time, and got rid of all of them to make the second round of the playoffs.

unless they trade porter and get monroe or bosh to pair with Nene, i think gortat should stay (with a reasonable contract).

he's been inconsistent, but so has the whole team. And his playoff performance should be driving his price down.

Ten year vet ballin' his ass off in a contract year?

That just screams disappointment down the road.

I for once kinda trust Ernie with this call. He knew not to pay Larry Hughes after a monster contract year.

He's old though. That is my biggest issue. If there were any chance of a fall off after this contract signing, its right now. He might average almost a double double now but it could easily fall down to 6-7 rebounds as a big man next year. But yeah this team hasn't had a double digit rebounder in forever so yeah I definitely understand. I just wish that he could be signed to a short contract and not for any extended amount of time.

I still want him to get paid.....He just might be a bit expensive and old. But I am also the one who wants to clear cap room for the likes of KD....*sigh*

Shit, fuck that.

And on top of that 2015 and 2016 drafts will have big men in spades to just wait and groom.

Maybe find a stop gap big or try to make a big splash with someone younger and a lot better.

111. "I would take Gortat over Ariza, and here's why..."
In response to Reply # 102

Ariza seems to be a luxury player, meaning you add him after you have your top, top well established stars in place and clearly let him know what his role (and subsequent pay) is when you add him to your team. For Ariza that's going to be a "spark off of the bench" and/or a long defensive stopper, that's it.

Now I don't know what the market is going to be for him this offseason, but you don't want to pay outside of that for what you need him for, taking up a huge portion of your cap for a player that's not going to get you over the top.

The Wizards essentially got into the playoffs and advanced to where they are prematurely. They are not the team that they are aspiring to be just yet, and it would be bad idea to add Ariza (through a large contract), as one of those pieces as his skill set can pretty easily be replicated by a less expensive player. Hopefully by someone already on the squad, Porter. We'll see.

As for Gortat, you can't teach height. He is a solid big man who gets it, in terms of knowing his role with a solid basketball IQ to boot. Once again though, you don't want to break the bank with either...

solid Centers are just hangin out on the corner...Gortat brings to the table something that is very useful...

and Trevor..I know there's a part of him that wants to come back home....but considering how things are going right now..especially if they win this series.... he's in a place now with a bright future..and he's a valuable part of that....

don't crazy over pay..but the Wiz have something special right now, and they need to keep it.

The wizards play sloppy against sorry teams. The pacers looked bad coming into the series and after the game 1 win, the wiz got lackadaisical.

With their backs against the wall though and the pacers being so inconsistent, it wouldnt surprise me if they win the next two.

The wiz are the better team. Its not like MIA over BK.

This could happen.

If they show up at home, they can definitely steal Game 7 from this team. They're on the brink of falling a part at any moment.

They just have to stay in the moment and take care of business tomorrow night at VC. The Fieldhouse isn't intimidating at all and the Wiz do their best work on the road.

I'm scared as shit yo. This team is about as jekyll and hyde as the Pacers.

I will definitely say I think the Wiz are better than the Pacers. More offensive power and the defense when focused is just as good. And they are hungrier.

in a long time. Usually I'm Lakered out this time of year so it's rare that I have to find another team to root for..

but this Wizards team is really an engaging team...well put together...and after so long of them being bad...can't help but be happy for their fans...

no fake thugs, ball hogs, criminals, low IQ players, whatever someone might disagree with.

they pass, play defense, score in a variety of ways. its a brand of basketball folks can get down with.

I had a pretty good time this season. Definitely more positive results than the previous ones. Nervous about the future though but that comes when a franchise isn't used to winning.

Yeah, it's hard to be excited about yet another home playoff loss, but let's have some perspective.

They weren't supposed to be that good.

People were still waiting for Wall to make that leap, and some were skeptical that he would.

Would Beal tough out the nagging injuries from his rookie year. Is he really the Real Deal?

Most people expected us to limp into the playoffs and make a quick exit.

Instead, we made a lot of noise and got Wall and Big Panda some much needed seasoning.

The Wall/Kyrie debate is OVAH! We even got some national broadcast bandwagoneering and love.

We went toe to toe with two of the Eastern Conference's best teams and mostly didn't embarrass ourselves. Only thing I'm pissed about really is not being able to win one home game against the Pacers in three tries. That shit was criminal, but overall, I'm good with it, but not satisfied.

Ernie is going to have a crucial off season.

about not winning home games. it's kinda unspeakable.
before the game, gortat even mentioned he wished game 6
was played on the road. why? players should feel
most comfortable at home. is dc that toxic?

...the in-studio crew was talking about how when you're home, your bad habits are right there for you. You got family and friends bugging you for tix. Your in-town jump off is nearby, etc, etc.

I mean, the thing is, they are young. It's not a crime for them to have lost all three home games this series, but it's a concern.

If nothing else, Wittman is good at discipline and accountability, so hopefully he'll make the adjustment next year. (assuming he'll still be coach, which at this point, is a good bet)

In response to Reply # 131

I honestly feel like this is the best this team is gonna get with him at the helm. He has no semblance of a half court offense, and this team has a tendency to come out the gate really, really flat. I like the fact that guys buy into his defensive principles but there is a lot of things missing from this team that I don't think he can provide right now. He'll get his extension though....*sigh..... I hope this team improves but I fear that this is the best they will be.

I hope John don't think his shot isn't broke. His shot still isn't reliable. He should do some ball-handling work too in the offseason too to help cut down on his turnovers. Mainly though his decision-making sucks right now but I guess its because he is still young.

Beal is pretty bad at running the pick and roll. Its either a mild success or a turnover waiting to happen. I really would like to see him use this play a little less since its not his absolute strong suit but hey knowing Witt, they might run it more. His midrange shot has also been broke all season. Hopefully he knows his shot and handles is kinda broke and he works on it.

Disappointed that Ariza just went down quietly. If anybody should get paid, its him, just maybe not with the Wizards. I don't want to keep him and not have Otto develop. But if we do keep him at the right price then I am cool with it.

Gortat is the one I am concerned about. I want to keep him as much as the next person but like I said, he's old. He's right at that point that he might start breaking down sooner rather than later and I don't want his contract to be like Nene's in the near future.

Wasn't expecting the season to end like this. Definitely proud of this team for not going down without a fight, but still disappointed because they could have done more. But hey, its a growing pain and hopefully they hunger for more. I hope this team doesn't come in all complacent next season like the Skins did after their playoff season. That is a big concern I have with a Wittman-coached team.

there is a lot of work to be done. i think witt deserves a short extention to see if he can get wall and beal (and otto) to where they need to be. Given how each has grown over the last to years, there is reason to believe he can do it.

If he cant, in two years when wall and beal are only 26 and 22, we can bring in a coach with strong resume to maximize their talent.

my thoughts on gortat are known.

quietly though, i'd be surprised if dont shock the league over the next summer or two with a major acquisition. everyone talks about superstars going to Chicago or LA, but DC is a darkhorse contender for love, durant, melo, even LBJ.

Who wouldnt want to play with wall and beal in a basketball crazy city, in a weak eastern conference?

Proud of my boys.

I don't wanna think about personnel moves or any of that. Gonna let it soak in that we have a legit team of good guys on the come up.

Hopefully the city gets behind them out the gate next season.
