"Poll question: Who will be the Knicks coach next season?"

Barring an late playoff push and a first round upset of Indiana or Miami Woody's probably gone...

Would FEEL come downstairs and do it himself? most people don't think so but he could probably have more impact on the sideline that as GM...

Scott might be the best available experienced coach and would crank up the Knicks-Nets rivalry another notch...

The mutual hate between Phil and the Van Gundys probably prevents something from happening there...

Phil has always been an abstract thinker so he might go with an unknown, he was virtual unknown as a coach when he started out with the Bulls so he could go in that direction...

Poll result (12 votes)
Mike Woodson (1 votes)Vote
Phil Jackson (1 votes)Vote
Byron Scott (1 votes)Vote
Lionel Hollins (1 votes)Vote
a Van Gundy (2 votes)Vote
somebody else? post it below... (6 votes)Vote

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Leaving a team with the best young back-court in the league, good young supporting talent, and a roster that's completely loyal to you and buys into your system for an aging team that's mired in salary camp hell for at least another season with an owner that still has championship expectations? Yeah, I'd think they'd need to back up to Brinks truck to get Jackson to leave.

maybe not in ny, but definitely in another huge market. He should stack his resume now and then wait for a good pay day + a good roster.

Byron is a terrible coach anyway. And given the recent success of guys like Mark Jackson, Jeff Hornacek, and Jason Kidd, guys like Kerr or maybe D-Fish (if he retires) or someone similar would be more appealing I think. And Jackson wants someone to run the system his way, an established name is not going to come in a run Phil's offense or do whatever he wants them to. I would be absolutely shocked if they brought in a veteran coach, outside of a Cleamons or Rambis that has worked with Phil. The attraction is Phil, not the coach.

you don't have to always come through conventional means or be a name.

as the game is evolving, there needs to be new blood in the coaching ranks.

its not a shock that a lot of newer guys are having success. the coaching ranks needed new blood.

I don't mind Kerr at all.

you mentioned names, and the need for them to sign free agents.

those names are either guys who weren't big names, or didn't get hired per the conventional wisdom.

kidd had HUGE expectations, and is kinda righting the ship now, and took a beating. and he literally went from practice uniform to suit.

best guy for the job wins at this point. names are whats gotten the knicks fucked up

In response to Reply # 0

Woody came in and got us to the 2nd seed in the East last year. the current problem ain't Woody in my opinion. making him the scapegoat won't fix the problem and i don't think Phil is here for that. i think he really wants to implement his system that he has in mind. if Woody can't get with the system, then yeah, i see him being gone. otherwise, i don't see why we can't move forward with Woody as our coach.

In response to Reply # 33

he'll get guys to buy in and give 100% but he's not gonna outcoach and outscheme a guy and that's a huge part of playoff ball. Coaching is huge in a 7 game series.

shawn and a few others said so much when i was pining for him to replace d'antoni.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

about it, as if he would LOVE the spot. Considering that and his good relationship w/ Phil Jackson, sounds like the chances are good.

In response to Reply # 41

Only because I have no idea how he'd do as a coach
If Phil makes Kerr the GM, and Kerr picks the coach, I'm cool with that.

I still hope Woody stays though, he got railroaded this year

http://nba.si.com/2014/03/17/steve-kerr-phil-jackson-new-york-knicks-coach/

“I’ve been talking about the last couple of years,” Kerr told the Dan Patrick Show on Monday. “I left Phoenix when I was a general manager knowing that I didn’t want to get back into management, but feeling like coaching would be a possibility at some point. I love being on the floor with the players. As a GM, that was one percent of the time. I love the game. I have probably one of the best jobs in the world … I’m perfectly happy doing what I’m doing, trust me. At some point in my life, if there’s a opportunity that intrigues me, I might take it.”
