i agree about cano but i think he has a plan..its baseball..not nba..they can come up fast with alot of young talent and a couple good FAs

They're built to lose. They don't want to even get bogged down with the illusion of competitiveness while there's a farm system to grow. Three consecutive #1 picks has put together the foundation for the next good Astros team, but it looks entirely likely they'll go after a fourth.
Though I will say there's more talent on that roster than there's been in awhile. Jason Castro, Jose Altuve, and Dexter Fowler:
a)have put together seasons which would deserve All-Star recognition b)are young enough to do it again

Dexter Fowler has a longer track record of being kinda-to-pretty-good than both of them.
edit: And I hope they keep Porter too. I know getting any MLB managerial job is a rare opportunity, but that guy deserves some payoff after signing on for this diet of shit sandwiches.

Lame. Porter didn't let the team's internal trade discussions leak; break Carlos Correa's leg; make Mark Appel get shelled in A-ball; fail to sign the 1-1 pick; and incite as many as three different MLBPA grievances from this last draft.
But winning a power struggle with your GM is tough enough when the team is actually good. He deserved to stick around for when that farm system starts to mature, but Luhnow was on the hook for all of the above fuckups and bad luck and Porter would have been smart to just keep his head down while the on-field stuff was actually not a disaster for the first time in awhile.

I agree with all you wrote. Should have given this guy an actual squad to work with OORRRRR just put the term "interim" before "Manager" so it won't make it seem like Crane actually hired him for real instead of some sham job which we all knew and this move confirms roster is looking like it is going to shape up within the next 1.5 seasons so they'll ditch Bo now, install someone else to ride out to greener pastures
it's like dude yall got another 4 weeks left in the season. they could have waited another 28 days before doing this they were trying to make a statement and this is dumb

I was trying to restrict comment to that pretty awful 40-man roster. But that's a kind of artificial constraint in the case of Springer.
Semi-relatedly, he was one of a few guys in the 2011 draft taken in or near the first round who had previously been drafted by the Twins. Along with Kolten Wong and Tyler Anderson.

The trying part was directed at MLB and the Rays trying to make the Tampa/St. Pete market viable....it's not and they would fold in a nicely as a Jays rival in Montreal
if they moved the oilers they can and will move the stros same for rox too folks be having free COURTSIDE seats for rox games and passing on them not sure that happens so much in LA, NYC, MIA, CHI

i ride in a vanpool with them i hear about all this O+G news and they frequently have deadlines so they can't make the games or they have better shit to do like go to Crossfit, drink beer at Petrol or make dining room tables out of pallets they found behind HEB.
their company has a GRIP of floor seats, so i find it funny when i hear how they are trying to get rid of the tix in the van, no one wants to go, then i come home turn ont he tube and it is big seas of red empty seats at the game

so it's hard for me to be objective. it's not a lot of stuff to do (some museums and the beach...they're opening a new schlitterbahn on padre island but it's not ready yet) but people are good and there's always fishing and bbq.
the hooks play right under the bridge at the entrance to the port here. it's like 2 miles from the refineries but sometimes the big ships come by. it's definitely a big adjustment climate wise to go from ny/penn or the quad cities to august baseball in corpus for these prospects.
