I say yes, even later in his career when he wasn't as 'dominant' he was still pretty damn good. His career FG% is second only to Tyson Chandler and Chandler is not really an offensive player

He has been able to contribute at such a high level for such a fucking comical amount of time. I don't think most right-minded fans would disagree that prime Shaq was better than prime Duncan; I just think there's a balance of longevity and greatness we always make when making top _ lists, and Duncan has been so good for so long that he's won me over despite Shaq's greater peaks.

for those two on other teams.

When you look at Duncan's teams in the playoffs, they lost overwhelmingly to the Lakers, Suns or Mavericks. If they could get past Kobe, Nash and Dirk, generally they won the Finals that year. So in that sense for any number of reasons those teams had his number more often than not.

But he also spread four finals pretty evenly across a ten year stretch and then very nearly completed one of the most surprising runs ever last year. And in his off years often made the semi-finals if not conference finals.

Whereas Kobe was often dead in the water unless he was on a Finals team, at which point he was ON A FINALS TEAM. But then, so was Shaq, because they made four of five finals those years with Kobe, Shaq and Phil, winning three.

Last year put an interesting spin on things, if only because Duncan is clearly the last of the three who will play relevant basketball in their career barring some genie-in-a-bottle shit from L.A. It made it super clear that Duncan has remained just as consistent as the media paraded him as, no pro-longed draughts or tantrums. But it also made clear that he was never so specifically dominant as the other two were.

Because Shaq ultimately won all of his gold after surrounding himself with Hall of Famers (Kobe/Phil, Riley/Wade), while Kobe and Duncan remained their franchise's cornerstones from the moment they arrived, I'd rank them Kobe-Duncan-Shaq. But I could go Duncan-Kone-Shaq too. But I can't see Shaq taking 1 or 2 unless we're talking purely on a nightly, one game, one night in the middle of April context Then Shaq is #1.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Timmay's supporting cast consisted of: a broken down Admiral, Elliot playing w/o a kidney of his own, the great Jaren Jackson, Antonio Daniels, Malik Rose.....oh yeah let's not forget Manu/Top5 WERE NOT better than journey men Speedy Claxton/Stephen Jackson in 2003 when Timmay took down the 3peat Lakers.

Besides, Bean won his 5th chip in 2010 courtesy of MVPau not 2009. So, within the decade that ranges from 1999-2009 they all had 4 chips but Bean had 1 Finals MVP vs. Timmay/Shaq's 3 MVPs each plus Timmay had 2 Reg. season MVP vs. Shaq/Kobe's one.

>years before Timmy got there
They were on their last legs during Admiral's MVP years let alone in '99. Ellie/Avery/Elliot/Jaren Jackson....ohhhh the humanity.

>"broken down" Robinson was only
>a few years removed from being league MVP
He was still an elite defender in '99 but he was no where near to being him MVP self offensively. In 2003, he couldn't even play much & Malik Rose had to play heavy minutes.

Admiral in 99: KG in 2010 post-season
Amdiral in 2003: KG in 2013 post-season

We talking about showing up on time or early to practice not hungover smelling like liquor.

We talking about consistency not flaming out.

Iverson had a good run but that's it. It was a good run. His Denver team got better when he left.

AI shaking Jordan or stepping over Tyron Lue is a highlight. However, he doesn't belong in this conversation. His lack of team success, alleged SCK label, and hype from Stans take him out of the conversation.

This isn't about iconic imagery. This isn't about humanitarian awards for liquor consumed or groupies smashed. AI's not in the conversation.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I suspect most of the ardent AI fans here would agree that no titles removes him from this particular convo. He's in the elite class of the era, but these guys dominated the title scene with near exclusivity over that time frame. Nobody else gets so much as a nod after those three. They owned that decade.

when he wasnt CLEARLY the best among the 3 til like 08??

99-03:Shaq, 04-08: Duncan. I know Kobe had that great 06 season but Duncan was still the better player then, and a strong case could be made for Bron as well.

besides, Kobe had no MVPs nor Finals MVPs up til that point, so how exactly did he OWN the era?

Kobe was better in 2000 and won a ring. And on the back end, he also won a ring in 2010 which was conveniently cut off by this time period, but Duncan's '99 ring was squeezed in. Why not just cut the bullshit out and go 99-2010?

C'mon.

lol, you can't just expand the era to fit a better argument for one guy. they're all 4-time champs if we're going to 2009.
