In the meantime, it looks like they've got a rosterful of guys who got longer deals than expected because they can always DH to save their legs. That's actually not a bad idea as far as it goes, but I don't think that scheduled rest via bench/DH spots is really going to stand up to player decay over a long timeline.

Whatever. The Yankees don't have the luxury of punting a season. There was an article somewhere (BPro, I think) that says that they suffer in huge disproportion to every other team when they fall below some (fairly high, if I recall, like 85 win) threshold.

I suspect they'll be the ones to fully smash the international signing bonus restrictions when the next truly elite talent comes up. The penalties for doing that are less severe than overspending in the draft.
