He wasn't bad. But dude disappeared in the playoffs two years in a row and his dismissive comments towards the fans didn't help.
Now they can use that money to re-sign Scherzer. Smart move if it works. Cause Scherzer >>>> Fiedler.

This allows Tigers to move Miggy to first & shore up left side of infield defensively, clears Prince's salary, and resign Scherzer.

He hasn't played third in a year, but it seemed like they moved him more in anticipation of being blocked than because he couldn't play there.

Either way, I can't imagine that anybody has ever called Castellanos or Avisail Garcia "Little Miggy".

looks like Miggy in terms of his height and build, he also wore his pants the same way and was wearing Miggy's sig shoes when he first came up. Miggy kinda took him under his wing.

But yeah, it's stupid because they aren't even the same type of player, at all.

Doubling your HR total from the previous year is pretty hard to do, even if he was moving to a softball field from Comerica.

But Prince's 'I dont give one entire fuck attitude' had a ton to do with it to.

That kind of shit could ruin a young manager.

Torii Hunter's importance as a leader was a bit damning of the reset of the culture they had assembled there. And Prince is a shithead.

was the fact that whoever the manager was would have the tough task of figuring out Prince and how to keep him productive and without that attitude which could be a cancer in the clubhouse. But DD may have known even at that time that Prince may be gone so that's not an issue. I LOVE Ausmus as the pick at this point.

season, and definitely during the season when it became apparent that the price for Scherzer was going way up.

Also I wouldn't put Porcello in that group - I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him get traded and Smiley put in his spot in the rotation. But I think Fister's will be due for a re-up after next year, and that's gonna be a priority.

I like that the Tigers got out from under some cash, that they likely improved their infield defense by moving Cabrera back across the diamond and replacing Infante with Kinsler, and that they added a useful bat at the same time. This looks like a better team than the one that started 2013, and they saved some cash to prop the window open longer.

I like that the Rangers managed to resolve the "where does Profar play" issue by removing a rough contract on an old player, that they added a middle-of-the-order bat at first base which they weirdly haven't had in a while, and that they're not on the hook for the entire Fielder contract.

Doesn't seem like one of these things will quite wash out. So what's going to go wrong? Kinsler is the sort of player who will age fast. Wanting to get out under the Fielder contract makes sense, but Kinsler's isn't a particularly promising one either. The short term benefit of Kinsler + extra cash = pitcher(s) extension seems worth it though. If Fielder's body is going fully south, the Rangers saving an extra 4.5mm per year for the entire life of that contract isn't going to be much consolation. I think there's still life in his bat, but that's not a prediction across the until-2020 timeline. That could get ugly.

This was all about the money....clearly. I cant see how it doesnt work for both teams. As much as I was anti Prince in '13, I am not ignorant to the fact that he can still hit (if his heads in it). I think this looks like an L on paper for the Tigers in '14 due to prince putting up coke-fueled/mvp level Hamilton numbers but by the end it will work out swimmingly (does that work?) for both teams.

There's a chance for Detroit that it works out perfectly, where Kinsler plays extremely well for most of his remaining contract *and* they spend the money they saved well *and* the improved infield defense makes the already great staff even better. That the first of those things is the least likely to happen doesn't mean I should make the perfect the enemy of the good.

You've set yourself up well to be very happy with this. Kinsler performing is gravy. Prince hitting in Texas is something to shrug your shoulders at.

edit: and keeping Cabrera healthier by moving him is a bonus too. I assume somebody said that above, but that's also important.
