bostons big 3 and now lebron/Miami really changed the game. You either playing for a chip or not (or a young team learning the ropes)
Winning 50 games or winning 55 games in the reg season really isn't that big of a deal if its at the expense of your players health.
That's my opinion on it at least..teams following the Pop model.

saying he got fined for resting players is more juicy though which is why the media ran with it.

not notifying is the reason they COULD fine him, not the reason they DID fine him. stern was pissed because it was a nationally televised game against the heat and he sent them home (still not sure why that was an issue). his statement said it was "a disservice to the league and the fans". does that sound like it's just about notification?
15. "but thats my point, if pop followed whatever notification guidelines" In response to Reply # 11 Thu Oct-31-13 01:58 PM by Cenario
There were, there'd be no fine.
So no, pop didnt 'get fined for this mess' bc resting players is not gainst the rules.
If we gonna be real about it, stern fined pop bc pop resting the players was an f u to stern and the league lol

16. "yeah, but just because stern thinks it's a big deal" In response to Reply # 15
doesn't mean it is. pop wouldn't just "throw" a game away to fuck with someone (in quotes because they didn't lay down, they almost won), he legitimately thought these guys could use the rest at the end of a tough stretch. he'd probably argue it's best for the team and league in the long run. as those two teams met up again for a great finals series, i'd say pop won that argument and stern looked dumb.
17. "i agree with all of that..not sure what we're arguing" In response to Reply # 16
pops fu to the league was bc san an was pitted @ miami for a marquee game at the end of a road trip...so pop does what he does every year, strategically rest his players.
I wasn't saying pop did it simply to screw stern and no he wouldn't and doesn't throw games. The f u part was the lack of notification. He knew that his big guns would be sitting that game out once the schedule was released.

20. "that part is true...although the spurs could have fought it" In response to Reply # 19
don't know what the process would have been.
in any event, my point is just that the crux of the matter was the notification or lack thereof.
that was the fu to to the league AND the part that broke the rules.

i'd rather cats play and just decrease the minutes resting dudes 2nd game of the season , back to back or not, seems kinda extra from an old school pov it's the way it is now though and probably ain't going change so i'll just give props to the dudes who play thru minor injuries like kobe, bron, dwillz etc

It's pretty silly to me that the timetable for ACL recovery has suddenly morphed from 1 to 1.5 years to like 6 months....based on a handful of outliers. These guys owe it to themselves to take the proper amount of time to be fully healthy in order to not only reduce potential for re-injury but perhaps even moreso, reduce the risk for injuries arising from over-compensation (for example, there is oodles of data regarding individuals with leg injuries who eventually have problems with the other leg because their weight distribution/gait is now uneven).

for any star player that wanted to play through major injuries or come back early.

14. "too many players rush back only to fuck themselves up." In response to Reply # 0
and then we say "he shoulda waited". this isn't a real issue. the only problem i had with rose, and really this is more a problem with adidas, is his comeback was hyped up as if it would happen last season. maybe he really believed that, because his natural instinct seems to be to rush back, and then he realized he should be more cautious.
