our defense gave us the game in the first quarter. our inconsistent offense made it a game for FAR too long.
Kaep is playing with some trepidation, I can't put my finger on it, but he seems far too aware of the stage. I think we should have tried pounding it up the gut earlier on, but he just made some really bad plays, and is not as decisive when he decides to run the ball. it could be just him figuring it out now that teams have had an off season to study him, but except for the first game of the season, he has not looked "good" for an entire game yet.
We could take bigger risks with Kap last year because we had a starter-quality backup.
Now we have Colt McCoy.
I have to imagine this season is a longer version of the 2nd half of last year. Playing Kap as a pocket passer and waiting for the playoffs to unleash all his dimensions (when it's all or nothing). Smart plan? we'll find out.

Harbaugh and Roman know they have this shiny new weapon/toy and they don't want to break it or ruin it so early on.

Every chance they get they try to murder him. That's probably why they're trying to keep him in the pocket more. They see how defenses are playing him. Even if he takes off running, the end of that run is going to involve a nice big hit. Yesterday I thought Abraham was about to go Bane on him at one point.
