-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Every team I root for in sports has been bad/terrible for the majority of my life time.

I became a Niner fan at age 7. That was the Young era and clearly they were great, but I endured the 2000s

I became a Celtic fan with the arrival of Employee #8 and Paul Pierce, an era which they were bland damn in damn near its entirety

The Mets - 'nuff said

I don't have to prove nothing to that fuck boy.

It refers to horses who are impossible to catch if they reach the front of the pack, but run like shit if they find themselves in the middle of the pack.

The cat above mentioned the horse-racing aspect, and I use/hear it most within soccer conversations. For example: A team that will score 3.4,5+ goals when things are going their way ('partying on the opposition') but then tend to fall apart quickly when faced with a challenge. Essentially, it's like a pseudo-measurement of resiliency.

It's actually pretty similar to the front-runner or bandwagoner label in terms of mentality: bandwagoners tend to be the loudest when things are going well but fall off the planet once things get tough.

a few years ago, when Illinois was up double digits vs us, we came back and went to OT and won..

after the game Evan Turner had some harsh words for Dmitri McCamey and all the Illinois players and said "theyre front runners, but play like some cowards in crunchtime" or something to that effect

I never quite grasped what he was saying. I only understood that word to means someone who's a fairweather fan.

I think we all know some people who can dish it out when they are clearly on top or at an advantage but when faced with a setback or challenge, tend to crumble/dissapear. That's the heart of the term, and it can be applied in different contexts; such as a team (as in the case you mentioned), specific player, fan (bandwagoner), etc.

Chokers and frontrunners both underperform their potential but I think the difference is WHEN they do it.

A choker tends to underperform in a couple key situations towards the end of a game while a frontrunner seems to underperform from jump.

and then when it comes down to crunch time

i.e., the playoffs

and more recently, even just September in general

all of the sudden, they can't do shit

I'm posting this here because I didn't want to make an entire thread focused on the Braves

but seriously, the fuck is up
