"Why is Teddy Bridgewater playing football this year?"

I know he can't be in the NFL right now because of that dumbass rule. But why is he playing for Louisville this season?

He should take the year off in my opinion. Watch film with Jon Gruden. Train with Jeff Garcia. Whatever. It just seems like there is nothing to gain and everything to lose.

His draft position has nowhere to go but down. Teams know what they'll be getting based off last year's performance. And there's the risk of injury that may be more financially damaging than his insurance policy would cover.

Clowney too.

The guy can practically walk into it this year.

Look at Louisville's schedule this year, a joke OOC and the Big East is an even bigger joke.

http://www.gocards.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/lou-m-footbl-sched.html

A perfect season is not hard to imagine, combined with his status already pretty much equals automatic heisman.

Also if that does happen there is a good chance they are playing for the national title despite the terrible record. They will at least be in the discussion, especially after their bowl win last year validated them despite the bad conference.

I posted on here a few months back about his pretty long odds given that situation for the Heisman and it being a nice bet if you are looking for a random bet to make. I put something like $100 down on it, can't remember the odds off the top of my head but it was worth the year out risk of 100 bucks.

I like the bet myself and am thinking about taking it (in general I'm not a fan of futures bets)

but I think it's far from a lock. if it was such a lock the odds wouldn't be +2000 with a bunch of guys ahead of him getting shorter odds.

I think you have a lot of good comp for the heisman this year....unlike last year where everybody was ready to give it to barkley before the season started.

braxton is another guy whose situation sets up favorably with an easy schedule and a better surrounding cast than BW.

i think most of us would agree that TB's Heisman chances right today are well over 5%.

Just being a finalist would make that future pretty hedgeable.

i still blame hip-hop.

QB of an undefeated BCS conference team is as close as it gets to a guarantee.

See Jason White over Fitz. Obviously White had a much harder schedule than TB this year, just saying undefeated QB is almost an automatic heisman win and I like L'ville's chances

>out nowhere like Manziel last year

because there are so many legit candidates. last year we were begging for someone to emerge. hell, braxton finished 4th and he had more than a few very un-heisman like moments.

here are the odds (TB has been adjusted):

Johnny Manziel QB (Texas A&M) +600
Aaron Murray QB (Georgia) +1200
Braxton Miller QB (Ohio State) +1300
De'Anthony Thomas RB (Oregon) +1400
Jadeveon Clowney DE (South Carolina) +1600
Duke Johnson RB (Miami FL) +1700
Teddy Bridgewater QB (Louisville) +1800
AJ McCarron QB (Alabama) +1850
Marquis Lee WR (USC) +1900
TJ Yeldon RB (Alabama) +2100
Tajh Boyd QB (Clemson) +2100
Marcus Mariota QB (Oregon) +2200
Kevin Hogan QB (Stanford) +2600
Jordan Lynch QB (Northern Illinois) +2800
Taylor Martinez QB (Nebraska) +3100
Lache Seastrunk RB (Baylor) +3400
Stephen Morris QB (Miami FL) +3700
Ameer Abdullah RB (Nebraska) +5000
Blake Bell QB (Oklahoma) +5000
Brett Hundley QB (UCLA) +5500
Jeff Driskel QB (Florida) +6000
Ka'Deem Carey RB (Arizona) +6000
Todd Gurley RB (Georgia) +7000
Devin Gardner QB (Michigan) +7500
Stefon Diggs WR (Maryland) +7500
Sammy Watkins WR (Clemson) +8500
Dorial Green-Beckham WR (Missouri) +10000
Derek Carr QB (Fresno State) +12500
Venric Mark RB (Northwestern) +12500
Logan Thomas QB (Virginia Tech) +12500
Carlos Hyde RB (Ohio State) +12500
Austin Hill WR (Arizona) +12500
Anthony Barr LB (UCLA) +17500
Devonte Fields DE (TCU) +17500

Will Sutton DL (Arizona State) +17500
Shaq Thompson LB (Washington) +17500
Stephon Tuitt DL (Notre Dame) +17500
David Fluellen RB (Toledo) +17500
Beau Blankenship (Ohio) +17500
Dri Archer RB (Kent State) +17500
Chuckie Keeton QB (Utah State) +17500

he had luck in that class so that was certainly an upset but I don't remember if that class was as stacked as this year.

ANYTHING is possible but we're going off probabilities here. manziel can certainly win it again...I just dont think it's likely.

Teddy B is now at +1000 with the 2nd shortest odds of the group

I guess it's the Michael Dyer effect.

I put my bet in Wed night so I'd say that was pretty damn lucky. I had no idea they were in the running for Dyer.

They actually like playing this game, you know.

Plus almost no good would come of it. Too much time on your hands. Have to stay in shape. Would raise huge questions about your character. Your teammates, who are like brothers, would hate you for quitting on them. Fans would hate you. You wouldn't improve. You'd lose your scholarship and have to drop out (they are on a yearly basis). Etc.

There are a million negatives and only one positive: that you probably wouldn't get hurt.

That shit doesn't work in the NFL. The NFL is a grown ass man sport. A 19 or 20 year old kid will get his ass rolled in the NFL.

Based on last year's dominant performance, he was pretty much a consensus top 3 pick.

There is very little he could do this year to improve his value on the draft board. But there is a lot that can happen that will cause him to tumble.
Now we're getting questions about his dedication and effort. Things I've never even heard a whisper about before yesterday,

What if this year turns out to be incredibly mediocre for him? Like each game is similar to last night's game. Is he still a lock for a top pick?

entire year off, you're probably not going to get better, you're most likely going to worse.

Particularly with a young player like Clowney, a lot of the hype isn't based on how good he is RIGHT TODAY, but how good he can POTENTIALLY be. Young players improve and reach their full potential by actually PLAYING and working hard to get better

You think there wouldn't be questions about his dedication and effort if he took the year off to protect his draft status?

Jadeveon Clowney too sore to play

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina All-American defensive end Jadeveon Clowney did not play against Kentucky on Saturday, and coach Steve Spurrier was not entirely pleased about it.

Clowney came to the coaches before the game and said that bruised ribs that kept him from practice Thursday were too sore for him to play. So the 6-foot-6, 274-pound All-American watched the Gamecocks' 35-28 win against Kentucky from the sidelines, chatting with teammates as South Carolina lost a large lead for the third straight game.

Clowney missed practice on Thursday with the injury, but defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said it was likely he'd be in the lineup Saturday night. Clowney was announced with the starters but came out without his pads when the game began.

If Clowney "wants to play, we will welcome him to come play for the team if he wants," Spurrier said. "But if he doesn't want to play, he doesn't have to play. Simple as that."

Clowney has been bothered by injuries and ailments throughout the season. He was ill before games with North Carolina and UCF, and has also been dealing with bone spurs in his right foot, a problem he's had since high school.

He has yet to break out this season as opponents have largely played away from his side. The reigning Southeastern Conference defensive player of the year has just 12 tackles and two sacks.

"He may not be able to play next week. I don't know," Spurrier said. "But we're not going to worry about it, I can assure you of that."

Ward said he thought Clowney would play during the team's walk-through earlier Saturday and was surprised when he learned he wouldn't be out there.

"He said he was hurting, but I thought he was going to play," Ward said. "Love to have JD out there, but we've got to put 11 guys on the field."
