"JR Smith says peace with two fingers (swipe)"

No big surprise here but gatdamn is their roster going to be Melo, Shumpert, Chandler, Amare and eight guys they found in the parking lot now?

J.R. Smith declines option with Knicks, becomes free agent

Posted Jun 25, 2013 10:41 PM
NEW YORK (AP) -- Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith has informed the New York Knicks that he will decline the option in his contract for next season and become a free agent.
A team spokesman also says Tuesday the Knicks extended a qualifying offer to forward Chris Copeland, making him a restricted free agent and allowing them to match any offer he receives.
Smith's decision was not a surprise given that he can make much more than the $2.9 million he was scheduled to earn next season.
The New Jersey product is happy in New York and is a longtime teammate of Carmelo Anthony so he would likely want to stay with the right offer.
Smith averaged 18.1 points in 80 regular-season games but his horrendous 29 percent shooting and poor decisions over the final eight postseason games could scare off potential suitors.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

he won 6th man and it was very obvious he can't handle success and/or expectations.

now he's not gonna get the money he wanted, so to have him here bitchin ain't a good look either.

plus, he's fucknuts crazy.

however w/ the money issues the team has, can they bring in anyone better? No.

*sigh*

you're immature when you're in your mid 20's

2014 makes 10 yrs in. immaturity can last but so long and aberrant behavior at multiple stops can only suggest one thing

he's touched.

as I said, I believve him to be immature. He doesn't think things all the way through before acting at times, but I don't see how he's crazy.

The good thing about that is I believe the Knicks have his early bird rights
He wants to get paid...can't blame him. NY is his first choice though, because he loves Woodson, and likes the fact that his family can come to most of the games...we'll see what happens

What scares me more is that rumors are the Pelicans are gonna offer Copeland more $ than we can afford. That's one dude I wanted to keep

he would do quite well with a veteren team and coach who can use him in his rightful place and not have him as a second option.

he ain't going to do nothing in new york except underachieve and stay gunning.

the knicks need a banger and playmaker.

Jr smith ain't getting any younger and he ain't getting many good places to age well with teams. a team with focus and depth allows him to breath and have expectations.

the spurs did well with Stephen jackson ok?

worm had an act 2 there before he went to the bulls.

they can deal with certain types of ego,etc...

To me THAT (amongst other things) was the most impressive coaching job...getting him to buy in and be not just solid, but a good player using his strengths. And the fact that JR loves Woodson and didn't mind that is even more impressive

Only way JR gets better is if Woodson's the coach. I think he wants to get paid, but doesn't want to leave Woodson.

a few years ago...and just had their best reg season in god knows how long...and smith was the 2nd best player on the team.

Those factors are going to weigh more than his postseason numbers. Maybe it gives the knicks pause over locking him in for 4-5 years(which they shouldn't) but they def shouldn't showing him the door.

Truth be told, I wasn't TOO mad about JR playing like ass juice in the post-season. This was the first time a team relied on him, and he played terribly. He said this will never happen again, and I actually trust him as long as Woodson's his coach (as crazy as it sounds, putting trust and JR Smith in the same sentence).

If he asks for crazy money, then peace. But he definitely deserves a raise and a 2nd look, because the Knicks would've been in trouble without him

offer him the max that we can when the time comes, 4 yrs - 20 mil
we can't outright sign any free agents because of our cap situation and if the worst happens, that is not an untradeable contract

losing him for nothing is worse than keeping him
