Start McLemore right away and bring Waiters off the bench as an aggressive scorer and penetrator.

In response to Reply # 58

lebron and KD missed the playoffs in years 1 and 2. nothing was even expected from a team standpoint to be making excuses, especially after andy went down.

now, INDIVIDUAL success was EXPECTED...and it happened.

only people tryna make the cavs not making the playoffs with that lineup and bench into a weapon against kyrie are idiots who mad he was as good as Mo Williams when he was 15. pure and simple.

Rie has NO excuses...

SO many agendas...

Basa's RIE the best player in the NBA by 2014 season

Rie don't have any help...

Cleveland has 2 #1's in 3 years and Waiters and Tristan are good WE WERE ALL WITNESS

NO Excuse for them to not be the #3 seed right Bombastic?

Frank has them in the playoffs next season.

So many angles.

Do they draft Nerlens coming off injury to play the C behind their current C Anderson coming off injury to help their oft injured PG?

Do they bench Waiters and draft Maclemore? Who is going to get Ben the ball?

Do they grab Otto and make him scapegoat 1B to Waiters 1A lol...

By they time December rolls around and they have 5 wins what will be the excuse?

Youth?
Mike Brown?
Princeton?

Btw...

Rose is back
Rondo is back
Wall is back
Trey Burke will more likely be in the East

Good luck with that all star bid Rie...
...you are in a tight bind, you are a scorer and dribbler and not a passer, but you have to pass to make all star because if you take ALL the shots, Otto will be mad Dion will be mad Tristan will be mad

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

No excuses Cavs

4 picks this draft
#1 #19 and first and third in round 2

you can draft an entire team.

they really need wing scoring and i like BK but a Burke-BK backcourt is too small

i mean Burke and Stuaskas last year are bigger as a combo than that

so if they draft Burke that tells me they are sending BK to the bench and making a move on a wing player this summer.

but with Calderon's status up in the air, who knows

dude in the Free Press today wrote an article with the thesis of : Draft Zeller, Trade Monroe

smh

... you're probably right. But unless they go Bazz with that pick, it's point guard or trade.

In an ideal world, Bazz in the first, someone like Wolters in the second? Kabongo? Or if you want to go McCollum or Burke first, someone like Deshaun Thomas, Solomon Hill, maybe BJ Young in the second?

there will be someone available at 8 that some team is in love with

Wolters i think is an NBA player, but i think mixing him in with the bigs in Detroit means growing pains. Wolters was THE MAN for a long time.

BJ Young, no thanks...Stuckey pt 2

Deshaun Thomas...ehhh intriguing thought at least. thats a big physical 3 which could offset some size issues in the backcourt while stretching the floor on offense.

if he's available at 38 im all for it

>Not who I personally would pick, just what feels right.
>
>1. Cleveland- Noel
Everyone knows Otto is the better fit now. The problem is as of right now, Otto doesnt project as a star - just a really good contributor. Its hard for a team who has the #1 pick to not spite themselves and go for the potential all star here - just to win now- when winning now in the short term is a playoff spot and not a contender. I can ony see them taking Noel or Mc unless they trade down

>2. Orlando- McLemore
Makes sense. Theyre solid and young at 3, 4, 5 with Mo, Toby, and Nik. Jameer adn Beno are fine, MC has star potential and Afflalo at 2 is their weakest spot.

>3. Washington- Porter (maybe Bennett)
Yep. Baz is a 2. Porter is a hometown (college) kid. I dont know if Porter gets lots of tick right away with this team if Webster continues to develop - but he'd be a nice sub. If it werent for hometown- I could see Wiz maybe going with Bennett since theyre old at 4/5 and Bennett has a higher ceiling in a lot of peoples eyes.

>4. Charlotte- Oladipo (maybe Bennett)
Makes sense. This team has so many holes to fill so they can draft a number of guys but Oladipo might have the most upside + ready to play now. His shooting % will make him a Rich Cho favorite. But yea I could also see bennett if he falls and maybe Len if they think he can be really good.

>5. Phoenix- Bennett- I actually think Phx goes C or Bazz
They need a SG- Baz has ties to the area. Maybe they get Len or another C if he drops and try to move Gortat. I woulder if they could Play Len at 5, Gortat at 4, and Morris', Beas, Tucker at 3. Tucker can even play and guard 2's.

>6. New Orleans- Len- I think NO goes best available big
Theyre set at G for now. So here they get Len, Zeller, Olynyk

>7. Sacramento- Burke- hmmm
Dont really see Sac taking Burke. They need a 3, but no 3 worth taking here.
This actually seems like a place MCW could go.

>8. Detroit- McCollum- I see them taking Baz if hes there
If not I think they go best available big to backup Greg and hopefully Andre. Olynk, Plumlee, Zeller, Len would look nice as a 3rd big.

>9. Minnesota- Zeller-
I see them going with Mccollum , Baz if hes available, maybe make a trade.

>10. Portland- Muhammad
Yep Baz would also fit here. But they just need soem talent to fill out their bench. May also need to draft a Big if they let JJ walk (though they do have Meyers)

>11. Philly- Olynyk
Yea itll be some big

>12. OKC- Plumlee
Semms like a good fit or do they just gamble and try to hit a HR with someone like Rudy. Rudy next to Serge in a few years....

>13. Dallas- MCW
If hes there, sure. I think they take the best possible player who can play PG.

>14. Utah- Schroeder
Lol yea good white fit. They also need a 2, and may have to replace Al and or Paul

I really don't love any of the wings in this draft after Oladipo and McLemore. Ideally we'd trade out of this pick, but I don't know who wants it.

Allen Crabbe may be there, Reggie Bullock should be there, Hardaway Jr. should be there, Tony Snell should be there.

I'd be surprised if they don't go big if they decide Bazz isn't for them. Bazz can fill it up, no question... but you can get a center for alongside Love and make that frontcourt stick. I like Olynyk more than Zeller, but with Rubio running point, Zeller can get up and down better than maybe any center in the draft (I think Plumlee runs better, but I'm biased and I really want OKC to bite on him). It's not like with Rubio and Love, Minnesota's going to be a defensive powerhouse. Get another guy that can fill it up in transition who plays to your strengths.

Right away, there's no question that Porter and either Dieng or Adams would be better than Noel and Allen Crabbe. But long term, Noel should be better than Dieng for sure and Adams is a bit more of a gamble (though I really like him), and big men who are more than spot fillers are rare. Still, if they're in the lotto again next year, which they would be with Noel unless Gilly hits on all three other picks with immediate contributors, is Kyrie going to be happy enough to stay?

It's the different between playoffs now or the hope for continuous playoffs long-term. If they can get Kyrie to stay, and they have Ky, Waiters, Tristan, Noel, and ANY top five pick in 2014, that's obviously beastly in theory. But will Ky stay and will it run on all cylinders quickly enough?

Plus, I think Porter can compete to be potentially as good as someone like Deng, who's an All-Star. As long as they think Porter can make an All-Star team or two in the East, it wouldn't be a total bust pick, they'd make the playoffs right away, they'd become an attractive spot for free agent bigs right away with all that cap room, and they wouldn't have to keep waiting for these players like Noel and other late draft picks to develop.

So you see the dilemma for Kyrie fans, lol.

I think if he goes 1 pick after the Wiz, he'll be a superstar but if the Wiz draft him, he has bust written all over him. Classic unsure, Ernie Grunfeldian, unlucky disaster pick.

Where at a certain point, a team will have to bite the bullet solely on raw talent, because they'll be at a point in the draft where if they pass on him and he *does* hit, people will get fired.

To be the Tim to Ky's Tony, he'd have to outscore Kyrie.

I mean, I don't care. Anything to help my boy win a title. If Noel is the guy to do that, I'd rock a Noel UK jersey and a Waiters Cuse jersey in celebration.

And I hope you I don't mean the Laimbeer thing as a diss, as I really like Noel's long term prospects.

An enforcer who can hit the 15 footer, antagonize and rebound
his ass off? Sheeeit. People forget that Laimbeer was pulling
12 rebounds a game...I bet Nerlens is never that good a rebounder

Nerlens is a long bamma.....I don't see a great reason why his
offensive game will be much better than Tyson Chandler's

He's a great kid, works hard....but I don't see very much offensive
upside, at all.

I think 12 boards is doable, honestly. A double double with 2.5-3.5 blocks per game, health pending. He wouldn't have a jumper in the pros, certainly not right away... but with how aggressive he is on the offensive boards, he could hit double digits on putbacks alone. Plus, with his work ethic, I believe he could get that sweet little jumper. Not 20 points per game... but 16? Sure.

I'd rather have Porter on that squad than Noel, because Noel is a guy sexy predominantly due to future potential, and the Cavs need someone who can help immediately. But Noel would be a fine "consolation prize", if one can even call him that. And I wouldn't poo poo the idea that he could be a better "long term" guy.

When I tell people that he can come in and be a top 5 defender in the post IMMEDIATELY, no one believes me. But he's really that good.

And several people would probably say a Chandler in his prime is worthy of a #1 pick this year.

Right now, outside of Tristan and Waiters who are good, their best passer is Anderson.

I don't see them getting Noel, but if they do he will be a project.

someone need to pass that ball, because Nerlens did pretty well considering Kentucky didn't really have a passing pg getting him good looks inside. You can't develop back to the basket skills if your damn pg can't get you the entry pass.

Bulls will whoop up on them.

Anderson Varejao average 3.5 assists a game with Cleveland in limited play.

Dude was beasting inside and yet was 2nd on the team in assists/game?????

think about that shit

yeah its the Princeton...

or yeah, Kyrie holds the ball too long and doesn't get it to players in good scoring position.

If they get Nerlens who is a damn good passer, it will help take pressure off the fact that Kyrie sucks at getting people the ball.

Just be honest about it.

If they get Otto...you better believe he will have to get assists, because if he is relied on as a scorer...there aren't enough balls to go around to keep Waiters Otto and Kyrie happy.

Anderson and Tristan are their most EFFICIENT scorers who SHOULD get the ball more, but we will see if Kyrie sees it that way.

Nerlens is an athlete, and yeah he isn't a shooter or outside threat, but he is a beast inside and damn good passer and ball handler so how that translates to Cleveland and Kyrie's quest to be a star remains to be seen.

Blocks and steals right away. And I think he can be just as good on the boards and with point totals eventually.

Noel has the potential to be really really good. And in a place like Cleveland or Washington, where he wouldn't be expected to immediately contribute great amounts offensively other that boards, he could thrive.

I'm talking best case scenario here, obviously.

there have to be better comparisons out there.

If the theory is that Kyrie and Noel are a combo that could lead to titles, Noel is more of the rebound-heavy, defense-heavy, supporting big to Kyrie's points-heavy, creation-heavy leader.

I wouldn't compare Noel to Laimbeer outright. Just trying to find a title pair that fit the mold comparison TRBO set up. Admittedly a better dup comparison probably exists.

Noel and Laimbeer's strengths are different. Goes without saying.

I think closer to 14-12 is a realistic expectation for Noel, but 10-10-3 is fair for someone less high on him than me.

If Plumlee ends up on the Thunder, I swear to God, I will learn how to krump so that I can run down the streets krumping.

Trade up for #1 and take Noel, which fits into the tanking this year thing. Cleveland can trade down and take Otto, who is the best pick for them.

the Cavs biggest problem last year was defense. boogie cousins was arguably the worst defender in the league last year. they'd honestly be better off flipping varejo for asik or the pick for asik and a shooter.

cleveland was a great landing spot, but as a #1 pick, his stat-sheet stuffing play might get lambasted even as it'll help them a lot. but i wouldn't be surprised for him to be a third option scorer and not put in the type of points national media from a #1 pick even though he'd be helping them win.

Cleveland @ 3 woulda been perfect. otto going to the wiz would be fun/interesting too for me as he'd be able to easily help recruiting.

As long as Cleveland gets out of these picks a long wing who is capable from 3, a big man to plug and play with Zeller for when Andy's gone, and any additional 3 point threat, I'll be a happy happy man.

And a good heart Jeff Green might be an all-star
in the East

But Nyquil wings will frustrate the shit out of you

That's what they do

Because they disappear for a LONG time and it looks like
its their fault

This is contrast to a Luol Deng power 3...Deng is consistent
and when he plays poorly its because he's hurt, sick or just
off...Dengs are the anti-Nyquil wings

otto will be among the most consistent wing players in the league by his third year. he'll rarely score enough for people to make him a superstar, but every team will desperately want him on their roster because he will help them win. advanced stats will likely love him more than regular stats.

JR Smith is inconsistent

Nyquils just disappear

They don't play TERRIBLY

They just don't affect the game

Again: Look at that Jeff Green Miami Heat
performance (40+)

I studied that game

Any guy doing that should be good for 20+ a
game EASY

He can't because he's a Nyquil

disappearing = not having one's normal effect on a game.

otto won't do that. nor will he have that many 40+ point games, unless his team needs it from him. but on cleveland, they won't need that much from him with kyrie there.

green is a pf/sf tweener. playing against bron is ideal for him because bron is pretty much the same size. against a bigger PF, he hangs out on the perimeter. against a smaller SF, he's often not quite fast enough to deal with it. Jeff green actually was crazy consistent once he had set minutes + a set role for the celtics this season after rondo's injury. and that's after missing a season with a heart injury. he had < 10 points 5 times total after rondo went down. Green was averaging 17 after the all star break as a 2nd option.

Otto's got SG skills in a SF body with the willingness to play PF if you need him to (but you shouldn't do that). completely different players, nevermind the jeff green comparison isn't really apt.

and trying to claim two guys i've watch much, much more than you are the same when they so definitely aren't. and its' obvious from how they played in college. Jeff was a point forward who did his work primarily from the high post, but also from the low post. Otto was a wing player whose offense almost never began from the post, but instead from the 3 point line in to the elbows.

totally different.

but laughing at how wrong you are about two guys I follow much more than you is a bright spot in an day otherwise marked by the always painful experience of having an article rejected and not knowing what to do with it next because one review claims it spends too much time of the methods and the other review explains how it needs to spend more time on the methods and the third review just says nothing of value except that they weren't really sure what it is i did.

but yeah, jeff green is a fantastic example of a tweener. carry on claiming something else.

I think Porter can absolutely do 8+, which means any given night he could hit double figure boards.

I'm not comparing how they get it done, I'm talking pure accomplishment. 16 points per, pushing double digit boards, wet from 3, defend the 3 or the 4? I think Porter can do all of that.

Why he don't do that more often? HE A NYQUIL

NEITHER have Otto's natural gifts, both wake up

Because we were waiting for that shit to happen the
whole season. Instead, Otto was just standing around,
talented as fuck, while niggas 1/400th as talented was
letting shit happen around him

And all we do is blame Little John

Then Otto decided to not drink Nyquil and looked like a
perennial NBA all-star SKEWERING 'Cuse at the CARRIER!!!
That was COLD-BLOODED SHIT

Then he went back to being a Nyquil on and off

Losing to FGC is fine...but him standing around and
looking lost is not fine

When you ever seen Kawhi or Deng or Marion DISAPPEAR
off cuff? Like, just stand around and let shit happen?

Kawhi got old hall of fame niggas everywhere and STILL manages
to be the best player on the floor for stretches

If Deng is healthy, the Bulls take the Heat to 7. Why?
No disappearing acts. Deng DEMANDS he be recognized on
the court

These sleepy head Nyquil drinking wings don't really play
BAD but they dont MATTER nearly as much as they should
for their talent level

The Jeff Green comparison is apt

Tell me. because it's easy as shit to find a comparable game for Kawhi this year (maybe the 3-8 game vs. Lakers in the playoffs? This was a great Kawhi game: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201303290SAS.html Or this one: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201304100DEN.html. BEAST MODE! DIDN'T DISAPPEAR! 4 points! 6 rebounds!)

>The Jeff Green comparison is apt

no, it's lazy and wrong and gets both otto and green wrong.

I think it's the only game he saw Porter play. He insists he saw more, but he can't tell me which games they were, lol.

He wants to avoid Porter like the plague, and won't listen to reason. He probably has nothing to worry about, since Porter at 1 still seems less likely, but... yeah. People who watched the end of the season are likely low as shit on Porter cuz of the Cuse tourney game and because "as a leader you were supposed to do more" against FGCU. Why watch a whole season when two games can create a narrative? lol

I know that for a fact because McDyess played in the SEC
against Arkansas and I seen him play

He didn't do shit all year

In the NCAA tournament he spazzed out and went completely
and totally apeshit

Shot up to the #2 pick

Went on to a fantastic NBA career, the scouting was right on

And now we know he might have been the second best
player in that draft after Garnett

So single games matter

One of them was against Duke.

And he's failed to live up to the potential of those two games.

Plus, plenty of studs had shitty tourney outings.

You're clearly lower on Porter, which is fine, btw. I'm just saying, I think he's better than you think he is..

And I don't put much stock in lottery-level talent on mediocre teams being ineffective in the NCAAs, if that's what you mean. gulf coast just threw everything at him and he did what he could.

as far as i'm killing 'cuse and then going back to sleep, that's just wrong because he owned UCONN and rutgers in the two games after.

he followed with a subpar game against nova where no one help, but he wasn't INACTIVE in that game. not even close.

then, he played cuse again and they blew cuse out.

they beat cinci in a walk. he balled.

then they lost against 'cuse in the BET. again, he wasn't inactive. they keyed on him and he missed shots.

Otto is basketball talented, way more than basketball athletic. you won't notice his first step, his vertical, or (if you're not paying close attention) his intensity.

-then at the end of the game, you find out he lifted mad wallets & watches from the other team.

dude is noticeable, but not so noticeable that you realize he's stealing your future right in front of you.

Nyquil players are truly aimless, foggy mofos who occassionally wake up on the right side of the bed. Otto STAYS on the right side of the bed, his man thinks he's showing him up, his teammates think they have equal billing.

-end of the game, who got the most wallets? Otto.

think James Posey, one of those x-factor guys that helps teams win. do not ever reference derrick fookin' mckey in relation to Brother Porter again. expect some kind of Bobby Jones, Terry Cummings, Kiki Vandeweghe, Alex English combo- with the max strengths/weakness shaved off.

in fact, that is his biggest problem- everybody wants a James Posey on their team, just not as a top 3 pick. 6yrs from now, a healthy Otto will be a valuable teammate.

Orlando goes thru the hell of dwight, doesnt tank, has a shitty year and does not get the first pick? Yet a team who had their chance with Lebron and Kyrie does? How does this help even the playing field? Daniel Snyder in no way deserves the 1st pick again

1. What's wrong with Shabazz again? Is he going to be this year's Harrison Barnes?
2. Why can't the Cavs just draft Nerlens and then Giannis Antetokounmpo at 19. Since Mike Brown knows how to coach a point forward wouldn't that be a win win for Cleveland. They get a SF and C to put with Kyrie Waiters and Tristan and Giannis can run point and free up Kyrie to score.

honestly I think he needs to play shooting guard...I know that his inside game was hindered this year because of the time he missed early on ..and the fact that he had nagging injuries that watered down his explosiveness over the year....

but seeing that he can hit from 3 range...even with a guy in his face.... and his handles are pretty decent..as well as his defense...I think that should be the goal for him...

he can probably play sf too but I think if a team needs a 2 guard and already has some shooters...he could fit right in there...

on a consistent basis.

I didn't even realize anyone was considering playing him there in the NBA.

he's not a great shooter..but from what I've seen..he can knock down jumpers with guys in his face..they can work with that...

people were comparing him to Charles Obannon who really didnt have a consisten jumper at all....'bazz can shoot the ball.

...that I thought he was supposed to be crafty and
he's NOT.

I was hearing James Harden. He has none of James Harden's
handles and overall wizardry

Throw in that Shabazz is older than we thought and YIKES

232. "that is very much part of his game...but you have to remember"
In response to Reply # 230

that in his 1 season at UCLA...he was pretty much our starting power forward...and our only guy who actually got minutes who has a post of game...

to say that he was playing out of position is an understatement

with Nelson leaving early...and Smith not developing and evenutally leaving.... Bazz was basiclly stuck being our primary offensive inside guy and although he has some of that in his game..it's not his strength..

peep some of his high school highlights to see that he had more Harden like game then he was able to show at UCLA..

of Ron Mercer.

He could be a potential mid-range killer. Sorry Metric guys.

He should also be able to get to the line a lot.

I don't expect much else from him though. I like his game. He's great at going to the basket.

Might end up being a volume shooter though. Much better if he goes to a team where he's the 3rd option.

I would LOVE for him to drop to OKC and they snatch him up and groom him into their poor man's Harden.

Usually, we have a good idea who the 1st pick is, the likely top 3 and pretty good idea of 4-10. Not so much this year.
