Bottom line, don't be stupid, play smarter.

Bernstein: Bulls’ Likeability Eroding
May 12, 2013 2:38 PM

By Dan Bernstein-
CBSChicago.com Senior Columnist

(CBS) I like this Bulls team, the one that has outperformed itself for an entire season without its star player, overcoming multiple injuries and maintaining admirable competitiveness.

I don’t like the Bulls team we have seen lately, the one acting like undisciplined, unprofessional idiots while antagonizing officials and whining about calls.

I like their tough defense – multiple helps and recoveries during a single opponent’s possession, closing out on shooters under control, knowing screen/roll rules based on personnel, running the floor end to end, sealing off for rebounds and communicating.

I don’t like worthless post-whistle overreactions that accomplish nothing positive, merely challenging their own lack of depth with needless fouls and ejections.

I like the Joakim Noah from the last game of the opening series, who plays like every contested ball is his both above and below the rim. That guy can play at maximum effort without crossing the line, affecting a game in every area.

I don’t like the Joakim Noah who makes an ass of himself in Game 2, says he knows his behavior wasn’t very “Zen,” then goes out and picks up a stupid technical foul immediately in Game 3.

I like Nate Robinson when the shot goes in.

I don’t like Nate Robinson when he ignores score and situation to find his next chance, nor when he follows a basket with so much flexing, screaming and look-at-me preening, then doesn’t even pretend to be interested in getting back to defend his man.

I like the Nazr Mohammed who was a late-season revelation off the bench, playing important, competent minutes with enough awareness and guile to be effective. I also like the comments he made on Twitter as he apologized for losing his cool in Game 3.

I don’t like the Nazr Mohammed who inexplicably lost his cool and cost his team.

I like Bulls fans who understand that sometimes the best player in the world is on your team, but sometimes he is on the other team, and he will get more than the average share of calls. This is primarily due not to biased officiating, but to the fact that the best player in the world is some combination of faster, quicker, bigger, smarter, more skilled and more determined, which makes him difficult to stop without fouling. I like fans who root for the right things.

I don’t like the oblivious Bulls fans who were cheering after Mohammed’s ejection, chanting his name to the rafters to celebrate a bonehead move, ever unmindful that the short-term delight of seeing Lebron James’ exaggerated fall isn’t worth the consequence. And I don’t like any fan who joins in the trite, witless “Bull___t!” catcalling of referees.

I like Tom Thibodeau for the masterful job he did this season, creating a “next man up” culture of solidarity as he regularly has out-schemed his counterpart with sets and matchups, despite lesser resources. He instilled a sense of accountability that translated directly to the scoreboard in a season that could easily have spiraled downward.

I don’t like Tom Thibodeau now reduced to pushing buttons to turn his team into Dusty Baker’s Cubs. He’s setting a sour tone with baseless insinuations that everyone is out to get his Bulls. As Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski puts it, “Thibodeau will never let these Bulls run out of conspiracies to frame in these Eastern Conference semifinals. No one pitches ‘we’re getting bleeped’ better than Thibs, no one better sells it to his players in a neatly-wrapped, pretty bow package of damning disgust.”

I like what the Bulls have done to work and will their way to this point in the playoffs.

I don’t like the way they seem to want to go out.

Not looking good for the Bulls. Missing shots, allowing easy baskets, losing the battle of the boards, just a poor effort so far.

Where are the Boozer supporters now? Dude hasn't done shit this series. He's taking off balance fadeaway jumpers over a small forward and only getting 5 rebounds per game against a team that has a weakness of rebounding. Glad to see he played well in the regular season and against the Nets but...

time to go fishing with Bill Murray ASAP. they were dead after game 2 and no match whatsoever. the Nets outta be ashamed of themselves for making the bulls look like something.

aside from Noah nobody else on that team is a threat to start much anywhere period.

i say they need a new coach and make some moves, because they are stranded on a island where nothing ever changes and it ain't like they are that far off when you consider they still make the 2nd round and were in the 3rd round just two years back. so it ain't like they ain't got much around them, however they need to spend some money or unload them tired dogs they got.

you know they were in trouble when Mighty Mouse Nate Robinson is carrying your team and Nate is a energy player, however he got no business being your leading scorer.

if i was the bulls I'd go after Pau gasol and get a shooter and unload about 4 of those cats ASAP because it ain't working at all, and Noah is wasting away.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They're starting guys who were out of the league. Their effort this series is commendable and a great example of excellent coaching. The Bulls are running on E basically so fuck all of you niggas partying.

don't care that he missed 12 shots. he clearly has nothing left.

dude was a warrior in these 'offs. bulls obviously wouldn't be here without him.

if eric gordon isn't walking thru the door via trade, the bulls need to consider a Nate/Rose/Buckets/Kirk backcourt next year. we'll have a better backcourt than Miami at the very least. pay nate his 6 mil over three years and let him backup rose. he's earned it.

Really enjoyed our effort vs. the Nets and in Games 1 & 3 against the Heat.

I'll be curious to see how GarPaxDorf save money next year.

>I'll be curious to see how GarPaxDorf save money next year.

the emergence of buckets as a legit starter at the 2 saves him starter money in the backcourt for at least one more year.

i'll be curious to see what happens with the pf spot. taj doesn't seem ready and boozers showing this series puts the amnesty back into the equation.

the money will need to be spent on backups. noah, deng, and rose need good replacements.

hopefully someone hollers @ minnesota re: k. love and new orleans for gordon before doing anything though.

With or without Boozer.
However I think another team is going to pay Nate more than the Bulls are willing to.

Bulls have have nothing to be ashamed of, we beat a good nets team, and had then same series as the 2010 ECF's with our 2nd and 3rd stringers. Anyone saying this team is taking a step back is delusional. Garpax keep building teams that excel with relentless play, teams with heart, While they build up investments in a team that will truly challenge the heat. Like I said, nothing to be ashamed, We lost to the defending champions, but we improved from last year. not many more steps ahead of us now, bulls fans are still the best fans in the best sports town in the world.

The only way to do worse than that series is to get swept.

One could argue we caught MIA sleeping. They've been WAAAAY more dominant this series than they were against us in 2010.

>Anyone saying this team is taking a step
>back is delusional. Garpax keep building teams that excel with
>relentless play, teams with heart,

LMAO...we have a great coach but he's bland offensively and has a tendency to run his key players into the ground. He needs to learn how to manage minutes better (he's a pupil of the SA org so he should watch how Pop preserves Manu and Timmy), allow some of the lesser used young guys to develop more (Buckets only got his opportunity cuz Deng went down for extended games mid-season) and learn to better use his key offensive weapons (O should have run through Booz most of the post season...there were stretches he wasn't even seeing the ball, even in the Nets series).

But GarPax are NOT building teams. They are getting cheap patchwork help cuz JR is cheap and Thibs is just coaching them up.

While they build up
>investments in a team that will truly challenge the heat. Like
>I said, nothing to be ashamed, We lost to the defending
>champions, but we improved from last year. not many more steps
>ahead of us now, bulls fans are still the best fans in the
>best sports town in the world.

Eh...if they don't bring back Nate (on the cheap) or get another fringe star/star player and some quality depth (a long bomb shooter, another big...mirotic might help here) I'll be skeptical that ECF is our ceiling. If we land those moves, I say we're a favorite with about 4 other teams next season.

So I give them props to landing Butler & Gibson in the later rounds.
But you're right about how they address FA to fill in the holes.
