"jay-z sports agent?"

the story only interest me bc its a.) it involves robbie cano and b.) caused robbie to fire scott boras the year he was going to be a free agent (even though he hasnt talked to robbie about being fired?). i know its going to be an arm of CAA but.....

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9124684/robinson-cano-new-york-yankees-switching-scott-boras-jay-z

New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who is in the final season of a $57 million contract, has left agent Scott Boras to sign with a company founded by Jay-Z.

Will the partnership of Yankees fan Jay-Z and Bombers second baseman Robinson Cano mean the slugger will stay in the Bronx?

Roc Nation, an entertainment company founded by Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, announced Tuesday that it is getting into the sports representation business through a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). This arm of CAA will be known as Roc Nation Sports, which simultaneously announced that its first sports client is Cano.

"At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field," Cano said in a statement. "I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates."

The Yankees and Boras hadn't spoken in weeks about a new deal, a person with knowledge of the talks told ESPNNewYork.com. The Yankees had made what general manager Brian Cashman termed "a significant offer" during the spring, but Cano had not accepted it. At this point, the Yankees do not have a read on how the move from Boras to Jay-Z will impact future negotiations.

However, when Boras clients get this close to free agency, they typically play out their contracts and test the market.

"I have not spoken to Robinson, and I hope to," Boras told ESPN's T.J. Quinn on Tuesday.

Asked if he was still Cano's agent, Boras said, "I don't want to comment, other than to say I haven't spoken to him."

According to league sources, Cano is under contract with Boras for the year. Those sources add that Boras has been negotiating on Cano's behalf and has received offers, meaning Boras won't just give him up.

It's not as if the team that will be negotiating for Cano after Boras is inexperienced, like the much-hyped partnership between Ricky Williams and rapper Master P's No Limit Sports, which resulted in one of the worst contracts in sports history. Through Roc Nation Sports, Cano also will be represented by CAA Sports' baseball group, which says it has negotiated $1.1 billion worth of deals, including four contracts (Ryan Braun, Matt Cain, Ryan Zimmerman, Buster Posey) that exceeded $100 million, in the past two years alone. CAA also represents soccer superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

U didn't read the story all the way through, did u? Here's the key paragraph...

"It's not as if the team that will be negotiating for Cano after Boras is inexperienced, like the much-hyped partnership between Ricky Williams and rapper Master P's No Limit Sports, which resulted in one of the worst contracts in sports history. if Blake Griffin were Magic Johnson, the analogy would be appropriate.

Hov could probably do a bit more of a professional job repping Cano than to work out a contract that works out only by reaching Hall of Fame-caliber incentives for the pro-sports version of a meat-grinder role.

everything dude has actually maintained control over has either flopped (his stint as def jam exec) or is hemorrhaging money (40/40 locations)
on the other hand when white dudes with deeper pockets simply use him as a puppet and get the most out of his sphere of influence while minimizing his decision making ...it works out wonderfully
LiveNation benefited greatly using him for the Made in America tour(not to mention artists started signing dumb 360 deals with LN after JayZ started shouting them out)
Nets ownership actually had ppl believing it was JayZs team
and now CAA is manipulating shit using him
NCAA is barring WWWes from arenas? no problem create "Roc Nation" and now you have 8th graders wanting to sign with a CAA subsidiary because they heard of it in a hit song
brilliant

i know this is just an anecdote to support your point, but the rocawear store at the barclays center NEVER has customers in it. I walk by there all the time too. Obviously rocawear the line has existed for a while, so take that with a grain of salt, but there's still no way that store makes money. my guess is it's just there so they can say "see? this whole arena is filled with jay-z shit."

then turn around to say he had 'full control' in handpicked areas that 'flopped' such as the record company exec example.

That shit don't even out(c)Illuminati/RussianMafiaPuppetGodMC

If he was a puppet at Def Jam as prez, then he didn't flop, he was just a familiar face of a tanking company & dissapearing industry in the middle of its mid-00's bottoming out.

If he was an exec, well then he's got Rick Ross & Rhianna to his name while being instrumental in Jeezy's solo launch in his two-year-stint while signing Nas & The Roots for the critical-acclaimed/career/catalog artist side.

All those people are still with the label & working.

To put that in perspective in the six/seven years since, artists of note Def Jam has signed.......2 Chainz, The Dream & Trinidad James.

I mean, if Jay was a flop then *insert name of whoever's been there since whose name people don't know* is truly fucking up royally.

If he didn't have no control over the unquestionably successful clothing/branding stuff, then how much do you think he's down at the 40/40 in Atlantic City making sure their menu's right?

It's cool to take a critical eye to dude's shit but you might wanna pick a lane or common thread so it doesn't look like a salty Siegel-esque type idly hating on a wealthy, overexposed rapper.

He's basically the only threat in that lineup as of today

if he can carry the NYY in a contract year

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

if not, he'll still get some money

but if he balls like he did 2 seasons ago

we're probably looking at another benchmark contract

The nets are established in BK at this point, they will only get support relative to how much success the nets are having on the court...poki don't neeeed him like that anymore.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.
