I mean, I know you want to avoid that dreaded 2-15 matchup again, but it's not like there are any invincible teams out there that need to be avoided as long as possible.

Sometimes a 15 seed will have NBA talent.
A 7 or 10 seed is more likely to be an underachieving team of terrific talent than an 8 or a 9. Or, even scarier, an at-large terrific mid-major squad.
3 seeds are usually 1 seeds with one too many losses. 4 seeds are a tier below and far more likely to be knocked off early.

Obviously it comes down to matchups... but statistically speaking your team has such a better chance of making it to Atlanta on the 1 line than the 2 line.

I'm seriously asking as a basketball fan, not as a Jayhawks fan. The level of consistency we have is stunning to me, I can't even think of the last time I watched a Jayhawks game and we didn't have a 1 through 25 next to our name. We've won our conference regular season title the last nine years straight, we won the championship in 2008, we were 2nd place in 2003 and last year, and we lose star players and just reload, never falling off.

I really cant think of any other team that has been as consistently successful as us.....

There are generally multiple ranked teams competing with Kansas.

To answer KC's question, probably not. There may be programs with a larger number of better teams than Kansas, but regarding consistency? I can't really think of one.

I just wonder why we don't get the national recognition that I think we deserve, other teams are always getting props regularly, but no one ever talks about Kansas, unless we lose. I was watching this Big Dance special on the Big 10 Network a couple weekends ago and one of the commentators on there said that Kansas shouldnt get higher than a 4 seed based on us losing to TCU this year.....

Two weekends ago, I absolutely would've had Kansas as a 3, no question. Losing to a team ranked below 250 is a big big deal. The resume for a 1 or maybe even a 2 wasn't there yet.

And truthfully, I'd have them as a 2 today instead of a 1, cuz they got smacked a week ago against a Baylor team unlikely to make the tourney.

But winning your conference tourney helps, especially when you face two tough teams back to back and won. And they have a lot of quality wins and a lot of talent on the floor.

but there also isn't another program in the conference that has won a national title since anyone cared about college basketball. Maybe that sounds like putting it down, but I'm sure that has something to do with their dominance.

I lived in Oklahoma in the early 2000s when they had a good team and know that people cared much more about spring football than the tournament. I think that says something about the conference as a whole and the importance of basketball and lack of production from the rest of the conference on a consistent basis.

when Missouri was here they usually had great teams, K-State has been off and on, Texas used to have great teams, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have been competitive too, its not like we've been a Gonzaga that never had any serious conference competition.....

not just that but we gotta potential 2nd round match-up with the 23rd ranked team in nation (creighton) and if we get to Michigan State then we gotta play them in Detroit. how the fuck are we being rewarded for being the 6th overall team in the tournament when we are placed with the overall #1 seed and then gotta play the #3 seed at essentially their place if we get that far?

this committee is old and senile, need to put them out their misery and get some stat geeks in that room next year.
