"For the record, it's not okay that Barnes and Hansbrough don't get fried"
Mon Mar-04-13 10:52 AM by Basaglia

Barnes was supposed to be a TRANSCENDENT TALENT, on par with TMac, Kob, Hill and Melo. He is currently on par with Kyle Singler at 9 and 4. Now, you can sit there wit a straight face and think about tryna detail how he gonna IMPROVE next year or the next or the next or NEXT..."oh, he just 20, Ba"....SO IS KYRIE!!! HE WAS RATED HIGHER THAN KYRIE!!! AND BRANDON KNIGHT! AND SULLY! AND WAITERS! AND TRISTAN HE WAS THE CAN'T MISS IN THAT 2010 CLASS!!! WE NOT REWRITING HISTORY FOR HURT FEELINGS!!! If "improve" means BECOMES A SUPERSTAR...COOL!! "imrove" don't get to mean "solid"...NOPE! SUPERSTAR! DEAL!

Tyler Hansbrough was NPOY...is the all-time ACC scorer...he was SUPPOSED to be a good pro...make at least ONE all-star game...he was basically UNC's Laettner and Redick in one. He's a BUM! Been a BUM! He's at 6 and 4.

This is not okay. They don't get to settle into nice quiet 12-15 careers of mediocrity, while UNC fans WAIT ON A SAVIOR...nah, they gots to get fried...just like Duke fans got fried.

Austin Rivers has gotten the spotlight shined on him on this board more than these bums and he's at 6 and 2. HELL NAH! How's that fair??!?!?

And I ain't even gettin into Kendall and Wright n'em...just the two who were SUPPOSED to be really good NBA players.

I'm talking about this. Y'all don't get to HIDE out on this board, laughing and smiling like it's all good. Nah, young...EXPLAIN why your guys ain't good. Explain why McAdoo 'bout be sorry. He'd have to fall to the 2nd round for me not to talk about his bum ass. I'm TALKIN BOUT HIM when he get in the L.

And any of you idiots that are collateral damage from tryna be friends with Stiff Hips...that's on y'all. Not my fault. I know who you are, but I don't even care about y'all. This is aimed at UNC fans. But, if you wanna be pressed and take part in defending that Stiff Hipped role player, you go right ahead.

Cysin' some damn one good dunk a month like we ain't supposed to notice he ain't what he's supposed to be. LOTTA NERVE!

I'll admit the kid needs to be more aggressive, but he's slowly finding his role in our offense. Last game I think he had 15 (season high for him)

Give credit to him, he could have started the season going for dolo and having a big ppg, but he didn't do that, he's learning his role in a high-powered offense that wins games.

In response to Reply # 19

i dont pay that close attention to it but were like ed obannon and redick not NPOYs? joe smith, corliss williamson, other guys that were just not stars as pros. whatever.

i am not seeing a big gap between expectations and performance for hansbrough. he was expected to be a plugger, maybe a little more effective, but all star? that's a reach but hardly surprises when it follows expectations that barnes would be some sort of generational talent on the nba @ 75 list or something.

i couldnt give a fuck less about unc in fact i would kind of like to see both guys in obscurity. similarly i really dont care that overall duke guys underperform. college is college, they have had tremendous success there. it's less now than ever the job of a coach to prepare a guy for the pro game IMO.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Tyler is just a guy, and nobody cares.

Maybe it's because they were already setting him up while he was in college to be a bust with the, "He just loves college. And he doesn't have a high ceiling in the NBA" talk.

He's like a 7th or 8th man.

o'bannon was a bust. joe smith was a letdown, but not sorry. corlis and JJ had and are having, respectively, solid careers in relation to their expectations.

Corliss, Joe, Ed. That's why I'm going with disappointment. I can't knock any of their careers. Even, Ed, cuz he had injuries.

But all that being said. Their careers are 5 times better than Psycho T's.

Don't nobody give a shit about Barnes and Psycho T because there's not some rabid asshat on here yelling from the mountain top about their great skillset.

Or claiming them in high school as "MINE!!!"

Or overhyping each highlight play.

Or campaigning that if they went to other schools they'd get the negative or positive press/accolades/OKP chatter they deserve.

I BET if you chilled, cysed Kyrie (cuz he GOOD and not cuz he went to Duke) and just discussed basketball...nobody would give a shit about the Duke busts either (outside of a jab or two from UNC fans...but really we been losing the pro battle for a good 7 yrs now so it's likely all in gest regardless).

But you keep on with the good fight...I suppose it keeps you busy. lol

BUSTS!

and FOH! tryna be reasonable talkin about just chill...and let y'all HIDE after y'all partied for DECADES cysed the duke-NBA myth? I gave up after McCants and Sean May's fat ass folded.

I knew Ty was gonna be decent enough and maybe even have an allstar season or two but that about it.

I haven't seen anything from our school that says we are gonna produce superstar or star pros.

So why cyse? I'm realistic. And truth be told, Kyrie is the FIRST Duke player since G-Hill who's a star/superstar.

-Singler
-JJ
-Nolan
-Gerald
-Ewing
-Plumlee
-Shelden

Ain't been no roasting of these players, most of which put up Lu Deng college numbers or better at some point and some won national titles. They might get a blip of a mention but if somebody do go in, it ain't like it's some bloody pile on or something. YOU jump in, get defensive and start a shit storm.

I mean ok:

-Barnes
-Hansbrough
-Ed Davis
-Ty
-Felton
-Danny Green
-Wayne Ellington
-Henson
-Kendall

The Duke dudes I named had similar college numbers and success to all those dudes and not much pro success. Are they bums too? Only thing that separates the two is Kyrie.

But dude is 'special'. We ain't had on of those since Vince left and even then, that was just mostly about his dunking ability.

Barnes will end up a 16-20ppg, 7-8rpg, 2-3apg guy. And that'll be ok. I NEVER pegged him for anything more.

*shoulder shrug*

Sure we could go toe to toe for shits and giggles and never concede regardless of who's obviously winning, but what's the point.

Unlike you, I can admit when we/I lose and move on. I do the same when I win.

>and FOH! tryna be reasonable talkin about just chill...and let
>y'all HIDE after y'all partied for DECADES cysed the duke-NBA
>myth? LMAO! man, if you don't strap up and come wit some big
>boy stuff. i don't wanna hear all that garbage. ain't nobody
>taking it easy on y'all. WHY Y'ALL DON'T PRODUCE STARS?!??!

This ain't about just Duke vs UNC tho...if it was, I'd be like, 'party on nigga, ya'll winning...for now' (which is basically what I've said). You make it about the whole board...UK and UCLA fans start chiming in then you go HAM lol.

But to answer your question...we don't produce stars cuz Roy is not Dean. You'll get the same hangover when K leaves. Watch.

they solid/good players.

Brand is and has NEVER has been a star player.

Boozer had maybe 3 seasons of upper level play, everything else has been just good play. He's a 'star' in the same way Josh Smith and David Lee are 'stars'. If that's what you call a star...so be it, but I don't.

Deng is a GOOD player. He's not a star.

Good players make allstar games occasionally. Deng (2), Booz (2), Brand (2).

Star players make allstar games most or a big chunk of their careers. They make all-nba teams occasionally. Get MVP votes occasionally.

Stop trying to inflate these niggas values dude.

You got shit all twisted cuz of agendas.

And to add to that:
Deng, Brand and Boozer all got like 8+ seasons in the league. Two of them niggas is in the 30's.

If we qualifying nigga's in their 30's...Vince still counts. And he got more allstars than them 3 dudes COMBINED. SHEED still count and he got 4 since 2000, last in 2008. Jamison STILL COUNT and he got just as many allstars as them 2005 & 2008.

FOH with selective hunting. And those 3 are BETTER than the 3 you cycsing.

C'mon dude.

elton, booz and deng were all STARS at one point in their careers. the fact that you can't even cop to that shows me how mad and desperate you are about this subject.

and i don't matter how old they are..,you said SINCE GRANT HILL. they count. hill don't

i said SINCE VINCE AND TAWN. so, they can't count.

see? you mad, dogg?

Nope...he gonna need 3-4 before I even consider it. Gonna be hard as hell to do with Russy, Curry, Parker, CP3, Harden, Lillard, Rubio all in the same conference.

He land 3-4, I'ma put him in the star slot. He's a solid/good player and I think that's his roof.

>elton, booz and deng were all STARS at one point in their

No.

>and i don't matter how old they are..,you said SINCE GRANT

None of them dudes was on Grants level...that's how you're being dishonest. If Grant is the baseline, how the fuck do they qualify? You saying Lu Deng is on Grants level?

>i said SINCE VINCE AND TAWN. so, they can't count.

Cool...and them 3 dudes you mentioned don't either cuz they aren't as good as Grant.

>see? you mad, dogg?

Not at all. I'm actually in good spirits today. I'm just chatting up hoops with my boy Basa. lol

>produce a GOTdamn star and this will go away. annoying ain't
>it?

Man, I'm praying we land a few but Roy ain't been on it.

>tell me about it.

Enjoy it man. You got K for what, 5 more seasons? Never know how them winds blow. Roy won us 2 titles but he ain't putting them 'special' type players on the court. Bittersweet.

not sure that the Duke side should ever talk about anyone getting a pass on not living up to their potential...

Jay Williams honestly gets probably the biggest pass in pro sports as far as someone fukkin up they chance in the league...

I mean dude's decision to violate his pro contract to ride a motorcycle and damn near getting himself killed never gets talked about regarding pro atheletes fukkin up...

and why??

because he went to Duke and he speaks proper????

now that is some bullshit if there ever was some bullshit....

the Bulls could have voided dude's contract...but didn't...out of kindness...plus their front office had a super negative rep for breaking up the champions...

Jay Will got super lucky....super fortunate....and gets a super pass for being a fukk up ..for all the wrong reasons..

read my first post. don't stray from the premise: barnes was supposed to be a SUPERSTAR. hanstravel was supposed to be good player, who produced in the double-double range and could possibly make an AS game or two...like roy hibbert or something. neither is CLOSE.

What's crazy is I remember when he started bruising my Bulls squad in the 'offs...I remember the commentators acting shocked because they didn't think the white boy was that good...lol

The kid hasn't done anything since, but for that one playoff series he gave the Bulls hell...

But nah...I don't even follow that UNC/Duke agenda like that and even I know Tyler H. wasn't deemed as a future all-star...

I didn't follow Barnes enough in college...And truly, I didn't see enough of Kyrie except for those brief glimpses to even know he would be THIS good....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

and if they did, is it Barnes fault if he's not?

that's like someone saying to me "you could have been the best astrophysicist" and then having it held against me when i become a successful accountant.

this agenda is stupid.

my thing is, i never heard anyone call barnes a transcendant talent. in fact, i specifically remember every announcer/broadcaster/analyst for college hoops giving him props for being very good but wondering aloud if he'd ever be as good as he could be...as a frosh and as a soph.

ferry? too old for my time/didn't pay as much attention.

laettner? everyone and they mama sucked him off.

laettner was BEFORE the internet, so it wasn't as bad at Sid. Jr's hype. at NO TIME was laettner pegged a can't-miss #1 overall prospect...never. barnes was.

the perception going into the draft was that tyler could be a decent role player. since that's what he is, i wouldn't suspect there would be too many lava-hurricanes of ether-fire raining down on his cockeyed dome.

but yeah, i always figured barnes for a bust.

I think the point may be that unc players somehow get lowered expectations once they leave. Hansborough was player of the year and all that, but hes okay being an nba role player. Reddick was player of the year, yet the common perception was that he was garbage. Double standard.

As someone who really stopped paying serious attention to the Duke-UNC wars by the time Jay Wills was drafted by my Bulls, I can honestly say that the perception that Duke had the bigger BUSTS came about for one single reason...

RACE and the feeling of entitlement...

If you were to choose the two biggest COLLEGE players of the last 20 plus years in terms of SUPERSTAR recognition, TRUE hype and CAN'T-MISS-NBA buzz, only one player in terms of UNC comes to mind: Vince Carter....

Really, that's it (post MJ, Worthy, Sam era...)....Since that time UNC has cranked out just ok to GOOD players....Basically, it's either been the role-player likes of Pycho T to little man in Denver who has turned out to be quite damn good (he will never get all-star burn though as long as Russy and CP3 r in the West)....

But when it comes to Duke in the last 20 plus years? They have had Player of the Year or in that ball park players come into the NBA, to the point where you know who Christian L. and Ferry are even if you don't follow college ball...

Right or wrong, that's where Duke gets most of its BUST hate...

They have had the bigger stars than UNC within that time period (Laettner was arguably the biggest college star of the '90s...Dream Team college nod and all that...)

So yeah...When Laettner, Ferry and other Dukies don't live up to that TRANSCENDENT college player hype much like the way Danny Manning didn't coming out of kansas(fucking injuries and the the Clippers did him in)it's WAAAAAY more noticeable than Tyler H. or Barnes (has he even been in the league an entire season, yet?) struggling, flopping or getting their role-player on...

Grant Hill certainly lived up to that crushing hype...And Boozer has been hot and cold....

Deng did better than anyone would ever imagined...And Brand's career got hijacked by injuries (he always deserved better)

As for Kyrie, I've always given Basa props on dude...Because he was the only dude on this board screaming that the kid was going to be special...

But if we are honest there was a great reason why folks were viewing him as a roll of the dice coming out of Duke...No one thought that a kid who only played a hand full of games and who battled some injuries would set the NBA on fire...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....
