"OKS March GD Post - ROAD TRIP!"

My new car is coming in this week, and the wife and I are planning a spring break road trip for the last week of March.

We're doing it pretty spontaneously, not booking any hotels in advance, to leave it open to change our minds on cities, but the tentative itinerary is:

NYC --> Baltimore --> DC --> Raleigh --> Myrtle Beach --> Savannah --> Atlanta --> Charlotte --> DC --> NYC

Any suggestions on things to do/see?

*Jews you*

If you're looking for some South Carolina beach action, hit up Kiawah Island for a day or two. Gorgeous scenic area-- it's where many of those Nicholas Sparks movies are set. Way less crowded, way fewer frat guys. Water is perfect, packed to the brim with sand dollars. Delicious sea food everywhere.

If you're looking to party, go to Myrtle. If you're looking for a nice beach trip for a vacation, skip Myrtle and head straight down to Kiawah.

I hated that place even as a place to party for a night on the southern road trip I took years back.

The entire main drag seemed like Wings stores, shitty strip clubs & airplane-bottle drinks at cheesy bars.

So if you're going down to Savannah, you're already going to be passing right by. It's just a hair southeast of Charleston (which I also enjoy-- comparable to Savannah, IMO).

then go along the coast on 17 from wilmington through Myrtle to Charleston/Kiawah and on to Savannah.

that's the good thing about not making definite plans, we can decide once we're in the car.

Especially in South Carolina. It's either a shorter journey on boring-ass 95, or a far more interesting and scenic one. In the south of the state in particular, lots of bridges, charming towns, diners, etc.

also a lot easier to find a random spot to just stop at. Our spot is in Pawley's Island and Ocean Isle right before the NC/SC border is another one i really like. I can't stand just driving on 95. I have taken the extra time to go on 17 (i think thats what it is) many a times.

Make savannah a priority. Less spring breaky than myrtle. You can spend 2-3 nights there. I'd skip atl too and do New Orleans.

Atl is a big city you can't get it in 1-2 days. MO is big but you can hang out in 1-2 areas and see and do everything.

fun, feels like you can do it in a day or two. the hotel that doubles as an art museum is a trip and cool and the bourbon trail is really interesting. buffalo trace does some really interesting one-offs that are available there and the food in louisville was surprisingly good. dope little city.

we'd like to do a separate vacation to NO another time. From Savannah, it's like 3 hours to ATL, then 3 more to charlotte, then 6 to DC which makes it a nice easy loop back. If we go to NO, it sets us up for a few long ass drives with no destination. it's like 9 hours from NO to ATL.

AKA the two overpriced places that Orbit has never
wasted a penny

We'll discuss the former later...I recognize that's
a controversial opinion, because a lot of y'all have
burned rent and diaper money in the strip club

Orbit has enjoyed every minute

But to Massages:

Just had a massage so good yesterday, I was literally
hallucinating

Bitch squeezed the Orbit_Calves and I saw a unicorn sprint
across the room

Second time that happened

Happened when I was in SE Asia too when this lady was
walking on my back

O and can we discuss homophobia?

I DEMAND a female massage therapist

Its gotta be homophobia since the experience
isn't really sexual...which is why I don't care
whether the woman is attractive or not, only that
she's a woman

How can I be helped?

real as in a professional masseuse did it, not no girlfriend or the wife. Me and the missus did a couple's massage and it took everything in me not to moan like a little girl because that shit felt RIGHT. First time I ever had someone massage these big ass size 15s, almost made that masseuse my concubine and brought her home with me that day.....

Was going to a concert that night and my feet were sore and torn up because I was playing bball and soccer for a total of at least 5 times a week...yelp'd this spot in SOMA that was walking distance from my brother and sister-in law's place....and cotdamn. Started with a girl who was actually using the stones to really get into my feet and then ended with this little Ocean's 12 and 13 type asian dude who like sat propped my feet up and sat on them. Incredible, so effective and worthwhile...gonna have to make it a regular thing as I'm finally ramping my sports back up as my foot continues to gain strength/I gain confidence in it.

i lived in KL and Singapore for 6 months in 2010. loved both places immensely.

Singapore is so surreal. literally every whip is either an Audi R8 or Lambo. a shitty car is a CL500. im slightly exaggerating but you wont see cars like this anywhere else in such abundance.

Singapore air is great. the flights seemed real short when they are offering so many things.

He's retired and lucked out on the good government pension plan, so he spends half the year in the US and half in the PI. My mom goes over once a year, I usually visit every other year (three times or so so far), I like the Philippines but it's nowhere near as developed as Thailand or Singapore (except for a few parts around Manila and some touristy parts like Boracay). I actually wanted to swing a trip later this year with the Philippines and another part of Asia like Thailand or Japan later this year but we'll see how it works out.

They do love their basketball there though, might be one of the few places in the world more NBA obsessed than OKSports. And it's one of the few places where I (at all of 5-8 or so) have to play power forward for a pickup game. I usually make it a point to pack some basketball shoes when I go and get in a few games while I'm there, though they look at me crazy when I fly into the lane or chase someone down on defense like I would at any blacktop over here. Pickup game culture is COMPLETELY different from pickup games here.

Which is how I have such success

People tend to forget that you still have to
be a gentleman and be nice...that has to be it.

I talk to them like they are human. They treat me like
I'm Jay-Z. Its weird.

Don't think I've left a strip club without a couple phone
numbers in quite some time.

And yeah, its more about ambiance and chilling, less about
touching females

To be honest, when I'm in NYC and I'm chilling having
a meal with some fellas, I'd rather give my money to
a strip club than pay one of these other clubs hundreds of
dollars per person just because we're black men...its
basically par for the course that you gotta have broads with
you if you're black. I've literally seen clubs charge me and
my peoples three times as much as a group of yuppy white
dudes ahead of his

Now I be like "fuck it, nigga let's go to the titty bar."

My money goes to better use imo

And we actually pay LESS money doing that

Bottles are less obscenely expensive and you can
actually meet REGULAR women in a strip club

I'd rather go to Wilmington or Ashville or even Boone rather than Raleigh or Charleston over any other place in SC but you might have reason for hitting those spots.

Can't tell you much about ATL but I know it ain't fucking with New Orleans, it would add some driving hours but in for a penny in for a pound at that point.

7 days left, hard to believe I made it this far.

60 days ago, my cardio was crap and I was in terrible terrible shape ( I still am really, but much better shape than I was.) The first week I had to do pushups from my knees and now can tear through them.

Only have dropped at 15 lbs, but I also have built a lot of toned muscle, especially in my arms chest and shoulders. I had to poke an extra hole in my belt and clothes that didn't fit me do now so even though the weight loss isn't huge I can tell the results are big.

It is as hard as they make you think it is, but it's pretty fun once you are into it. I'd do a 2nd round but my knees are totally shot from all the jumping which seems common so I might move onto something like P90X after this.

This is the most effort I've made towards a healthy lifestyle in years though, so it's a great 60 day start that makes me confident I will keep it up now that I've gone through what is probably the most difficult part of starting and continuing.

One morning I stepped on the scale which I always avoid because I don't want to know.

Saw I was close to hitting 250 pounds (I'm only 5'8) and that was it for me, was just a come to jesus moment.

I got a lot of support on the insanity subreddit which helped me stay motivated, and you just have to be willing to suck at it. The people who do the tape have to stop and collapse during it, which means that even if I do it 3 times I'll probably still have to collapse and take breaks.

My first time through was all about just do what I can do, if an exercise is 30 seconds and I can only do 10 before a break then I did 10 and hopefully next week can do more.

They give you a fit test every 2 weeks which helps you stay motivated because even if you don't feel the change coming in your cardio conditioning you get to the fit test and see your numbers jump from last time.

I was 210 in 2011 and went on Nutrisystem, and dropped 35 pounds in 3 months, but that was because I was eating 1,200 calories a day. Soon as I went back to relatively normal, it came back.

it's the being willing to suck at it that was hard for me. i hate sucking at things.

f'real though, this is motivational. I think I'm gonna give it another try.

I was there for about a week for a work conference, it was a good time. An OKP (forgot who) recommended me The Rail pub on Congress St there and it was a great time, lot of locals hanging down there. I met me a couple nice Southern girls there (though I know you're married), plus it's next to a bunch of other bars locals hang at... Congress St Social Club next door is pretty cool, Seed Eco Lounge around the corner is hilariously Vegas-y (if that's your thing), Roof Top Tavern around the corner from there is a good place to catch a game (judging by me trying to catch the Memphis-Clippers series last year). The River St bars aren't as good, though I did get a good rendition of R Kelly's "Bump-N-Grind" on at Wet Willie's there, much to the surprise of a bunch of SEC backer looking dudes and their girls(I'm a skinny island Asian from LA, but I sing in a band or two). Don't go to Paula Deen's restaurant, it sucks, go on a ghost tour if you can, and if you golf, you're in for a good time.

on the room plus tickets to the Cirque De Solei 'Love' Beatles show that was playing there.

That was shortly after they'd changed over from the Alladin so the only notion about the Planet Hollywood' brand was those shitty theme restaurants like the one at Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

Came away highly impressed, you can do pretty much anything in that structure.

Mandalay Bay is still my favorite Sports Book though to watch all the games unfold while betting on everything & drinking for free (nsince it looks like you're gonna be there over that fantastic 'first four days of March Madness' weekend-one of the most underrated great Vegas weekends).

If you play poker, hit the MGM poker room. One of my favorite spots, plus bad players.

If your game is video poker, The Palms is the place.

Best cocktail service used to be Bill's Gambling Hall, but now it's the Encore - tip big your first round and they won't stop bringing them.

A favorite bar is Red Square at Mandalay Bay, esp. if you like vodka.

Shibuya is amazing sushi (MGM). Pricey spot tho. Cheaper sushi can be found at The Grand Wok at MGM. I never have a bad time there. Killer crunch roll.

Flamingo is one of my favorite places to play, cause I've won a lot there. Decent drinks.

Tropicana is newly renovated and great. Plus I saw Dennis Rodman there once.

MGM is HUGE. There's tons of restaurants and a huge casino floor.

The Bellagio fountains are a must see, esp for a first timer.

I highly recommend these restaurants: Earl of Sandwich (PH), Fiamma (MGM), Bouchon (Venetian), Shibuya (MGM), Fix (Bellagio), Pinks (PH).

Pinks is worth it in Vegas, but not in LA. The lines are nonexistent in Vegas, and they take cards. EXACTLY the opposite of LA. Though, I have cash on me at all times in Vegas and NEVER in LA.

You can sneak into the Caesar's pool too. It's a great spot. Just walk in with a group of people. Google and find Pocket Shots, bring those into the pool, and buy whatever mixer you want. I spent an afternoon doing that and it cost me like $10.

Clubs - Tao is my fav spot. Great music, good drinks, and if all areas are open, there's a lot of areas to hit up so it won't get TOO packed. If you eat dinner at the restaurant, you get in free and skip the line. I wasn't a fan of XS at Wynn. I hear 1OAK is the new spot (Mirage), but haven't been.

Cheap gambling spots are disappearing, but there's still Circus Circus, Casino Royale, The Quad (formerly Imperial Palace). Also, downtown Vegas (about a $25 cab ride from the strip) is fun for fucking around and gambling. Drinks are dirt cheap, tables are good, and it's a different scene.

without neon lights, there's an amazing japanese restaurant about two miles away (call for a cab back, tho): Raku. my friend and I had to get a night away from the strip, looked it up online and it blew my mind. phenomenal meal.

edit: i had a great meal at La Cave in the Wynn (Encore? I can't remember)

So if it's not over when you get to McCarran, be prepared to wait.

Once you get to the property, you won't need to cab anywhere really.
Especially at PH. There's so much right there.
I'd suggest the Cosmopolitan, a new property on the strip.
I've seen Quadron, Mayer Hawthorne & Aloe Blacc at their Book & Stage show.

Fremont St. is worth the cab ride. More locals hang out there:

Insert Coin
Beauty Bar
Downtown
The Griffin

All great spots. Good music (house, techno, hip hop)

In response to Reply # 91

I stayed there last summer and it was fantastic, except for the nickel and diming on some of the amenities (seriously the rooms are already expensive, why do they charge for internet and gym too?). The rooftop pools there are great though and the crowd is all pretty young and good looking (plus less douchey than the Hard Rock). And they do actually book good touring acts there, probably the only place on the Strip that does that. If you're in Vegas primarily for gambling though, I'd stay elsewhere, like Planet Hollywood across the street.

Also I have a bunch of drink chips left over from me DJing Beauty Bar in Hollywood (now closed), and I intend to cash them in at Beauty Bar in Vegas or SF. I've had a great time at the Downtown Vegas bars, lots of locals and more relaxed, though it can get sketchy quick if you get lost.

Just saw that your trip is in a couple weeks, so I imagine it should be resolved by then.

Cab lines are usually really bad at McCarran. Outside of that you should be ok.

Obviously we need some spot with the possibility of watching any game that's on. Multiple TVs and what have you. I know of some good bars on the west side with available free parking, but I'm unfamiliar with other parts of town and open to suggestion.

The few times I've been to L.A. I've found it hard as fuck to find some shit. It's not like NYC where the hot shit is pretty obvious. And then everything closes at 2.

But that's another story.

And whats a nice hotel. W? The Standard?

The W is nice, and it's in the heart of Hollywood. The hotels I've been to in LA (Redbury, Roosevelt) suck...and I don't go to many, cause I can just go home.

Depends on the area you want to be in. Hollywood has the most nightlife, if that's what you're looking for. DJ R-Tistic is kinda the dude to talk to about that...I personally like hanging at bars more than clubs. There's plenty of stuff to do everywhere (by the beach/Santa Monica/South Bay, Downtown LA, etc.) but it depends on what you wanna do.

Basically, We wanna go out to a nice restaurant and do a little dancing.

Better than Skybar at least. It gets kinda douchey and really crowded on Friday/Saturday night (plus it has a crazy cover after 10), but if you get there afternoon/early evening, it's much more chill and has a great view. I'd probably hit it early and enjoy the nice view and have a drink, then head to Hollywood for your dining and dancing after. There's also a pretty cool spot on the 2nd floor there called SPiN that has drinks and glow in the dark ping pong, not a bad date spot to chill for a bit.

Like em nice and crispy. I like a good Chicago style char dog though those pickle spears are too damn big for me. At home I'll grill them til they're a bit charred then go ketchup, mustard, and onions. Grill up the onions too if I decide to throw on bacon.

and can we get some mustard talk in here?

stone ground is where it's at. sometimes you need that old, crusty yellow mustard from the barrel bottle ... but, if you want it good, go find yourself some jalapeno mustard. my mouth just watered typing that.

got a new job lined up. fed up of not having work to do at the current place and getting in trouble for not doing any work. writing has been on the wall for a while, so i started my search, got a new gig and start on 3.25. two weeks being handed in this friday.

anyone have this situation? like, what's the point of stringing this out for two weeks? i guess i could just say, "here's my two weeks and if you want me to stick around, here's my middle finger" but i ain't built like that.

so ... anyone else negotiated anything like this?

and sitting at my desk for the next two weeks for no reason just seems stupid. would rather be getting shit done at home, obviously, than be forced to trudge to work for two weeks of nothing.

>you just got to do enough to keep getting a check.

pay days are lining up, though. next pay day is 3.15, which counts this week and the week prior. basically, my pockets would be fairly straight in the meantime.

over here, when someone's leaving, if the boss asks where they're going to, some have said the name of a competitor just because they know that company policy means they'll be escorted out right then and there, and get the two weeks free.

I know it's illegal to take sensitive information about the previous company to the competitor, so they're covering their bases and making sure you don't get the chance to do that. but how can they do that w/o paying you since you're quitting and not being fired? i know things are different state to state, but i figured that would be a given.

When I asked them whats stopping me from using my days now then, they had no answer. So if anything, I helped them fix their horrible HR skills. Bu then not really since they got bought out less than a week after I left. Best move I could have ever made.

i have a NC in place with my current employer -- which has been cleared by legal of new employer -- so if i were going to a direct competitor, i would be getting the legal shaft.

new employer does compete, but that is not the area i am going to, nor will i be interacting with them at all. should be clean.

i'm hoping having a NC might be reason enough for a perp walk.

I just re-started working my legs, on Monday, after 5 months off due to my foot surgery and cotdamn, are they sore. I'm usually foam rolling and getting some movement in the sore areas which definitely seems to help...any other methods or techniques that you guys find useful?
