"What's going to be the narrative if the Knicks win? (Knicks vs. Heat)"

The first time we played them and beat them by 20 - It was Sandy, we shouldn't have played the game. They'll have revenge on the mind next time.
(Like the Miami team felt that more than the NY team)

The second time we played them - It was Melo didn't play they didn't get up for the game.
They'll have revenge on the mind next time.

Today, the Heat come to the Garden...both Lebron and Wade said they have revenge on the mind.

WHAT'S GOING TO BE THE NARRATIVE IF THE KNICKS FUCK AROUND AND WIN TODAY?
The Heat didn't play well because they were tired after filming a Harlem Shake.
They'll have revenge on the mind next time.

As long as they win the title, that's all that matters.

If anything they're more concerned about the season series with Oklahoma.

In the long run, after the season is over no one will remember how either team faired against the other one in the regular season. No matter if one or either team wins it all.

They won't remember or care about how any team faired against ANY TEAM in the regular season at that point be it the Spurs or the Bobcats.

But that's not where we are right now. Right here today that's all we have to talk about is the regular season. And how we've done against them and how they've done against us.

So yeah LeroyBumpkin has every right to feel like the Knicks are no threat to him right now.
I REPEAT LEROYBUMPKIN AND HIS BULLS FAN MATES HAVE NO REASON TO BE SHOOK OF THE KNICKS RIGHT HERE TODAY. (except the fact that they're still looking up at us)

But, right here today, The Knicks have no reason to be shook of the Heat either (except the fact that we're looking up at them in the standings)

So the question I posed is only about the reg. season, as its all we can talk about right now. We'll see what happens in the 'offs.

with both teams at full strength

you get an idea of what a potential playoff matchup will look like

you can try different sets and lineups

and then use that in a potential playoff matchup

especially considering this is the team that eliminated you last year

4 - 1

the NYK have to show something against MIA going into the playoffs

just for the mental edge

and we always compare regular season matchups when teams go into a playoff series

so yeah, saying this doesn't matter at all

ehh, I'm not buying it

ABC gets their ratings and people on messageboards and around the horn can debate largely irrelevant points generating more interest for the NBA playoffs
it's cliche but the Heat really are a different animal in the playoffs
two of the biggest contributors/role players during the playoffs last yr were fucking horrible all regular season (battier/miller)
the knicks need to focus on keeping this old ass team healthy enough to get out of the first round and thru indy or who ever they see in round 2 before u start worrying about lineups and match ups with the heat (lol)

James White didn't look bad guarding Bron

I'm guessing this isn't their normal starting lineup

Shump on Wade

White on Bron

obviously putting a lineup out their with a priority on the defensive side

looked good for a few minutes before White got into foul trouble

and they had to bring in JR

It's just too dangerous because of how easily the shooter can twist an ankle or worse. Only way to dissuade that is to call a foul.

despite all of the box-scoring, every single day game discussions, player discussions/agendas/hyping/hating/debating and the board thriving off of the NBA regular season, THE REGULAR SEASON DOESN'T MATTER, lol

Seriously tho lbj ain't get a lot of calls he normally does...I keep waiting to hear a whistle.

If kidd was sucking like lately this is a 2 point game.

Lotta sloppy turnovers by both teams.

James white sucks.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

during that Bath Salt Bron stretch there was a fair share of bum teams in there i'm sure. no nights off , this ain't the lakers
this thread is about narratives (that the Heat players don't create) and whether or not this game matters in the grand scheme (it doesn't)

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH NOVAK TODAY.

As long he TAKES wide open shots I do not have a problem w/ him whether they fall or not.

Novak's shot will more then not fall.

Who the knicks will most likely face in the ECF is a huge plus. To say that doesnt matter is just weird to me.
Depending on who they face from the west getting past the Heat is the real challenge for the Knicks.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

He was handling the ball a lot more consistently and did it well. Also allowed Bron to play at the elbow which gave him a lot more ability to see the floor bc NY was doubling the screen-roll hard with Chandler.

felt that winning the game means that we could beat Miami in the playoffs

the two top teams in a conference, one of them the defending champs playing each other on a National TV matinee is a big enough game to get happy if the Knicks won though (as a Knicks fan)

but the game doesn't matter so who cares

Why are talking about Woodson or Lin or whatever?

The Heat are better.

Lebron is a titan. He can be 4 different players
within a single quarter, as many as three within
a single possession

how do you turn your back to lebron, the most dangerous basketball player, like, ever, so he can get an alley-oop?

how do you let him pass, and a)not have him bumped as he cuts or b) have the big rotating to the middle for the give and go?

james white should have stuck to long jumping.

iman shumpert, for a guy who played 1 at GT, has no confidence dribbling the ball nor attacking the rim.

sloppy w/ the rock.

and though I gather from the posts felton was attacking the rim late in the game, the major offensive flaw on this team none of the guards are a real threat to get in the lane.

too much mental midgetry for a veteran team, if you ask me. and it can't be all on woodson.

best player...sorry, it's just the truth

Also, they have too many complimentary parts and no real 2nd option - like whose their 2nd option? Is it really JR Smith, Amar'e, Chandler, or Felton? If the answer is anyone of the above then that explains why they won't win nothing more than *maybe* a 1st rd playoff series

The second option is jr

Kidd is kidd
Tyson is Tyson
Felton is barea
Melo is dirk
Smith is terry
Novak is cardinal

Problem is: dirk is efficient, melo ain't . And who is their matrix?

In response to Reply # 146

after that sizzling start, JR has been pretty shabby. his TS is now down beneath 50% (league average is around 53%). elsewhere in the backcourt, felton is lousy and shump can't shoot for shit. as an aside, i think prigioni should probably be playing a bit more.

the knicks' problem is that novak and kidd need to be taking shots, but can't defend. the guys who can defend can't shoot. as they've tried to shore up the defense--rising from 19th to 16th over past few weeks--their offense has slid from 2nd to 4th.

They have all of one reliable scorer on offense

They have a "stopper" coming off of knee surgery

Their 2nd best scorer is a shadow of his former self

They are reckless on the perimeter

an efficient scorer...he's who he's always been

The Knicks were always fool's gold w/that style of play. They can't adopt the Mavericks style of play because the Mavs had smarter players and more efficient shooters than do the Knicks and their star player was a better player and easier to build around than the Knicks' star player.

Man ya'll gotta stop w/these Bleacherreport and ESPN metrics lol...ok, how abt the good ol "eye test?" Does that suffice? Melo has now surpassed Bean for the most shot attempts this season and his 44% fg is right around what he usually shoots from the floor. The knock on the Knicks since January is the ball movement has now become stagnant and that the 'ball is starting to stick to certain player's hands." Now, which player would that apply to on the Knicks?

FG% doesn't account for free throws or weight three-pointers as being worth more. the obvious comparison is to batting average. it's a helpful start but easily inaccurate.

for example:

who's the most efficient scorer this year out of these raptors?

kyle lowry - 41% FG
demar derozen - 43% FG
landry fields - 46%

hint: it's the exact opposite of their respective FG percentages.

>The knock on the Knicks since January is the ball movement has now become stagnant and that the 'ball is starting to stick to certain player's hands."

the 'knock' on the knicks is that they are not hitting 3's like they did in the beginning of the year, not defending the same way and turning the ball over a bit more.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

it was nice as far as the "buying in" narrative and the woodsonian agenda goes, but tyson chandler is the only excellent defensive player on the team (now that brewer's gone and rasheed is done).

the defense was better for most of last season under both coaches because they were playing dudes like jeffries, fields, douglas and a healthy shump instead of kidd and felton. the secret to linsanity was that they had the second-best defense in the NBA with amare and melo on the sidelines.

Yeah, they're aren't hitting 3's at the rate they were early in the season because they aren't getting THE BALL MOVEMENT and initially knicks apologist said it was because Felton was out and now that he's back, they still aren't shooting particularly well from the outside and 'sticky hands' are a big reason for that

kidd, JR and melo were shooting way above career averages early in the season. that was partly due to great ball movement, but it wasn't going to keep up. same deal with oj mayo -- he wasn't going to maintain 50% three-pointing shooting all season.

In response to Reply # 161

Melo shot 44% from 3 in nov.
Kidd 49%
JR 47%
Brewer 41%
Felton 40%

No type of ball movement is going to sustain those numbers throughout a season.

is comical to me... it just showed that if he isn't scoring constantly in crunch time nobody else can step up and do it... JR Smith refused to go to the hoop just settled for 3's 5 ft behind the line, Novak literally looked scared everytime he touched the ball, Shumpert shouldve pulled a D-Rose and sat all year, and late in that game u have to wonder if Amare is a better option then Chandler, Chandler is useless on offense when you have to slow down and play half court late in games like that

he's right there with durant, bron and harden, in terms of guys who shoot frequently while keeping a high TS percentage. it could be a small sample size fluke, but it's worth noting.

Which is why his numbers look good.

But if we are going to do anything in the playoffs, we gotta take the training wheels off amare
