"People who need a regular gig on ESPN"
Not like a once a week thing, but who should be at a desk on a daily program.
My pick: Bruce Bowen. Smart, disarmingly charming, and the bow tie is a perfect identifiable trademark to make him stand out from the pack to the layman.

I could see it being a problem on audio, but watching him, you see the dirty player sitting there, in his bow tie. It's like he's an old Southern rich asshole. It's awesome.
Plus, he's maybe the only guy I've ever seen to go onto First Take and not let SAS and Skip dominate the conversation. And he didn't demean himself in order to be in charge of the segment. Natural feel for the camera and how to work it.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I'm not sure how their presence on the air justifies Bo's increased presence. We give Bo a pass because he's thoughtful, insightful, and "one of us", but anyone who follows, or has been blocked by him on twitter knows that he's a special kind of egomaniac.

Would be ideal. I think they've pretty well exhausted the amount of air time which should be given to dudes giving opinions. I realize they've kind of farmed out a lot of actual athletic competitions to ESPN subverses, but... that's dumb.

for current athletes to do this? But that I mean does the risk of a current athlete saying something un-PC or deemed 'contraversial' out-weigh the reward of doing a good show or provide insight?
9. "I was really unclear" In response to Reply # 8
I just meant they should show more actual sports competitions, but instead phrased it like a jerk.
Though since I suffer nothing by an athlete saying something horrible and offensive on TV, I vote for your idea.

... sadly matches the likelihood that MTV will show music-related programming.
Then again, my initial post subject involves ESPN's hypothetical hiring of intelligent sports analysts, so we might as well post our wildest fantasies.

Played for the same high school that Rick Manning Jr did and is under investigation for having relations with a student whilst he coached the football team last season.
